This imo is the best rhythm guitar performance of all time. Listen to the guitar iso track it's just nuts how good he was. I play it every day to warm up. Wears out my 5th/7th frets.
The 1978 debut album from Van Halen is a classic... Eddie Van Halen's guitar playing changed the game overnight 🤘🤘 The last track is literally called "I'm on fire" 🔥 and every song is a banger... They even added a couple of cover songs - 'Ice cream man' by John Brim ... 'You really got me' by The Kinks.
FOUR KEYS TO THE VAN HALEN SOUND: DIAMOND DAVE’S SCREECHING WITH WHOOPS AND HOLLERS EDDIE’S GUITAR 🎸 ALEX’S SNARE DRUM 🥁 AND MICHAEL ANTHONY’S STRATOSPHERE BACKING VOCALS!!! VAN HALEN: I SAW ALL THE TOURS WITH ROTH FROM VAN HALEN 1 IN 1978 TO 1984 AND AGAIN IN 2013! I SAW 5150, OU812, FOR UNLAWFUL CARNAL KNOWLEDGE AND BALANCE WITH HAGAR. THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER EDWARD VAN HALEN!!! RIP EDDIE My favorite Van Halen tour shirt is from this tour-Fair Warning. The band on the front with Worldwide Tour on top and 81 with a circle ⭕️ around it on the bottom and world tour 81 on the back with the VH LOGO and Van Halen written in the logo! My second favorite Van Halen tour shirt after Fair Warning in 81. Band on the front World Vacation Tour 79 on the back.
Fun fact: This song was originally called "Show Your Love" (Chorus makes more sense now). They had written it a few years before their first album (good audio of them playing it in January of 1977 at the Starwood on UA-cam). Album producer Ted Templeman made them change the title because the first Van Halen album already had Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love and Feel Your Love Tonight, and he didn't want a 3rd song on the album with "love" in the title. Something similar happened on their 4th album Fair Warning, where the song Sinner's Swing was originally called Get Out and Push (again, that's why you hear that phrase in the chorus), but, with When Push Comes To Shove already on the album, they changed the title to Sinner's Swing.
My older brother bought this album when it first came out. Blew my mind, got my hooked on rock. Eddie was a guitar god! Saw them live in 1980 on the Women and Children First tour. 🤘
Hey Ray!! When this song first played on the Radio, I thought the Title was "Show Your Love"!!!! When I finally looked at the album, I Didn't SEE that Song and was Pissed! I figured it out once I heard it, but you Can't Blame Me, they only sing "I'm the One" in a couple parts, so..... Anyway, Great Reaction! I've been a SUB for a Long Time!!! ~ Keep Rockin'!! ~~ I'm "Daytona Snooper"
THE record that changed my world when I was 12 and listening to typical 70's Hardrock and Pink Floyd :p Even that back then most people thought that I now am completely lost for good listening to noise like this (even more than listening to early Nazareth & Co before) lol. But I was playing rock guitar since I was 6 yo and grabbing VH was jackpot. And hey, I just bought itt because I liked the cover, never heard anything of them before.
Imagine a bunch of teen-agers who have never heard *ANYTHING* like Van Halen before hearing this stuff for the 1st time. We knew 10 seconds in to "Runnin' With the Devil" that these guys were a game changer. And then they dropped Eruption on us. "Holy F***!" So when people suggest you react to more Van Halen, you might as well just plan on reacting to the full debut album. Can't miss on any of it!
Unless you're a guitarist, it's impossible to explain how difficult it is to duplicate the swing "feel" that Eddie displays throughout this track. Every guitar player who has ever tried, knows EXACTLY what I'm talking about......I don't care how accomplished.
So true my friend.. I played this as a 20 year old. I CAN describe that to you. The harmonics sneak in while you're finish a lick.. so quickly he flows.. I never played it like that and will never say I did.. but gonna pick the 86 strat and try to play a tune I haven't tried in 20 years
Great Reaction Beautiful young lady, my recently passed identical twin brother just 4 months ago had a VH tattoo..We grew up in the late 70's and early 80's enjoying this type of Rock!!😪🤘
I can't imagine hearing this for the first time in 1978. Any other band puts out this song and it's a hit. For Van Halen it doesn't even crack the radio because there are so many other hits on the album.
Van Halen had no learning curve. They were the apex when they first stepped on stage. Check out their early shows just before this album came out. Their stage energy, in my opinion, cannot be matched. It really is truly incredible.
So much fun watching you react to this. I suggest a fun one for you and us... would be Van Halen's "Ice Cream Man" The moment you figure out what it is about alone will be priceless video LOL
19 years old first heard. 3 days later, i have the greatest First Release album on my Turn Table 3 months later, Fort Worth Tx Journey Ronnie Montrose The Mighty Vanhalen
That album still holds relevance even today. (hell, all of em do) ...I'd say you have your pick of songs to cover by them... (Panama , Jump, I'll wait, ...that's just off of 1984, and off the top of my head)
I have a shop in my basement and this song is one that has nearly cost me my fingers more than once. Its hard to sit still to. And, when you are working around a tablesaw or a mitersaw, headbanging and dancing doesn't exactly mix. Icecream Man is another song that i like of theirs.
The song hits hard immediately for what I'm guessing is 2 reasons. When you have arguably the best guitarist ever in Eddie Van Halen, you let him work his magic early and often. 2ndly, when David Lee Roth is your vocals, while maybe not the most technically sound singing, you let his showmanship take over.
This entire album is just pure FIRE!! Perhaps the best debut album ever. And I am a bit more of a Sammy Hagar era than DLR, but both were absolutely perfect fir the eras of VH they sang in. The driving force is obviously Edward, but Alex pounding those drums is amazing and Michael Anthony's ripping baseline and backing vocals just complete that entire VH sound
Less than 1% of the world plays a musical instrument. Fewer than that are accomplished enough to play in a band. Fewer than that actually play live and unfettered in front of people..
When people talk about preferring the DLR version of Van Halen, this is what they are talking about. The swagger and swing on the debut album are legendary.
Maybe my favorite VH tune. I know the lyrics are about hitting town and getting chicks but musically it has an ominous threatening vibe like driving a truck full of nuclear waste down a mountain and through all the switchbacks with the gas floored and your hands deliberately in your pockets. Yet they stick the landing every time.
Killer freaking song from that ground breaking album. If they only did that album they would still be legends. Also from it do Atomic Punk, another wicked banger. I saw them open for Black Sabbath on this tour, Sabbath had to really bring it after Eddie freaked us all out, who the Hell was that reaction throughout the arena. They were awesome but Ozzy was great that night and the opening riff to Warpigs snapped us back to reality and we knew why Sabbath was the headliner. Great double bill for $6.50, LOL! Enjoy. 🎵🎸🎤🎶
This album changed rock & Roll forever.
This album single handedly brought rock and roll back to the forefront, buried disco and made all other genres irrelevant.
music stores ( Sam Ash, Guitar Center) would not have flourished without Eddy's playing
Untouchable debut album from the mighty VH
23 year old EVH - so young and so fresh. Probably wrote it at 18. Just an otherworldly talent.
This imo is the best rhythm guitar performance of all time. Listen to the guitar iso track it's just nuts how good he was. I play it every day to warm up. Wears out my 5th/7th frets.
I said in another comment that, when they first came out, there was no learning curve. They were at the apex the first time they stepped on stage.
When a great hard rock band seamlessly turns into a barbershop quartet for 20 seconds. Shut the front door!
Exactly!

The Van Halen Boys' papa was a jazz blues musician...and you can freeking tell he taught them so much!!! Swing, boogie shuffle...signature VH
Van Halen's debut album is a masterpiece 🤘🏻
And I love the energy you transmit while enjoying the music
More. VH please!!
This album is when the world realised EVH has taken the number one spot of rock guitarists.
One of my fave VH songs. These guys were ultimate party rock. More please!
Van Halen was just EPIC!!! When I was a teen in the '80's, I was obsessed with EVH and the band. Great react(as always) to a great band!!!
Eddie Van Halen was the Greatest musician of the end of the century........❤❤🎸RIP legend
Girl you need to react to the whole album, absolute banger!
That debut album is just SO good...
That song isn't played enough. Love it.
This album inspired millions to pick up the guitar...
And maybe caused many to put it down for good.
It's a bit hard to think of this as a 1978 song, when Van Halen had so much influence on what 80's music sounded like.
FOUR KEYS TO THE VAN HALEN SOUND: DIAMOND DAVE’S SCREECHING WITH WHOOPS AND HOLLERS EDDIE’S GUITAR 🎸 ALEX’S SNARE DRUM 🥁 AND MICHAEL ANTHONY’S STRATOSPHERE BACKING VOCALS!!!

This is a VH song that has every genre in it. With lots of comic edge. There will never be another Van Halen
My older brother bought this album when it first came out. Blew my mind, got my hooked on rock. Eddie was a guitar god! Saw them live in 1980 on the Women and Children First tour. 🤘
🏆🥇🏆🥇🏆🥇 WINNER -- BEST VAN HALEN Reaction -- EVER !!!! 👍👍👍👍
NICE deep cut! Keep'em coming. Enjoy the ride into those first 6 albums.
I’m the One is perhaps their very best song. Just incredible
RIP to the GREATEST GUITAR PLAYER EVER!!
Jeez, this whole album is amazing.

One of the best rock albums ever, and easily one of my favorites!
I absolutely loved your energy watching this. Seen these guys several times since I was a teenager.🙏🏼🌹💕

Great Reaction!! VH is king..
Awesome reaction video!saw Van Halen the year this album came out!infreakingcredible live band! So much fun and talent!

The entire first album is fire!
Great Reaction Beautiful young lady, my recently passed identical twin brother just 4 months ago had a VH tattoo..We grew up in the late 70's and early 80's enjoying this type of Rock!!😪🤘
One of the best tunes off of this album, along with ATBL, which precedes it. Learning it at 15 on the guitar was so much fun.
One of my favorite things about Van Halen is how they harmonize so well. Michael Anthony does great background vocals too.
I can't imagine hearing this for the first time in 1978. Any other band puts out this song and it's a hit. For Van Halen it doesn't even crack the radio because there are so many other hits on the album.

Their best tune in my opinion. The entire thing is a guitar solo! Love it!
North America's Greatest Rock Band! The Mighty VanHalen!!!!
I used to have this album on cassette back in the 80s. Loved this song. It probably migrated thru several boom boxes and car stereos. I loved VH
I think that you should react to one of my favorite songs by them on this same album "Atomic Punk" 🎉❤
The first every vinyl LP I ever bought when I was 9, with my pocket money. Listening to VH is my happy place.
I think I love you lol
This is the best Van Halen song. So much joy.
Eddie tearing it up. Great tune.
I didnt start listening to van halen late in life im sad to say and it was all because of this song i stumbled upon and now i cant stop
If you're foot or head ain't bopping during this song there's something wrong with you. Great tune been listening to this for years!
The background vocals of Micheal Anthony and Edward Van Halen totally kicked it up! EVH's guitar sound will never be replicated.
The lead guitar in this acts as the rhythm too. There'a another VH song that does that, called, "Source of Infection". _SO_ fire.🔥
Hard rock at it's finest
LOOK at all these little kids taking care of MUSIC BIZZ 🎸😵💫💲🤬🥳
The music is excellent and you are beautiful as always Rachael, keep up the work you are doing and Brazilian greetings to you Rachael! 💚💛💚💛
... And this is why these guys are among the greatest rock bands ever...! Give a chance to: Light up the sky, Van Halen II.
It's criminal how good the guitar work is on every single VH song. Eddie never gets to rest.
Jeeezus Eddie. And Mike, singing and that bass.
I remember getting this album when itwas released and had my mind blown. Still listen to thiis album quite often.
One of the greatest albums of all time. Hands down 😊
The debut album that single-handedly ended disco! God bless Van Halen.
So much fun watching you react to this. I suggest a fun one for you and us... would be Van Halen's "Ice Cream Man" The moment you figure out what it is about alone will be priceless video LOL
A fantastic debut album !
Glad you liked it, first album brilliance, toured with the Scorpions. Thankyou, Metal wins.
19 years old first heard. 3 days later, i have the greatest First Release album on my Turn Table
3 months later, Fort Worth Tx
Journey Ronnie Montrose The Mighty Vanhalen
Can we also give it up for Al he is like Animal on those drums!!
Eddie Van Halen’s guitar is simply unhinged in this tune!
Who else could put swing, harmonies, and doowop
Into the midst of Disco dominating everything, this came out of nowhere and changed the game.
That album still holds relevance even today. (hell, all of em do) ...I'd say you have your pick of songs to cover by them... (Panama , Jump, I'll wait, ...that's just off of 1984, and off the top of my head)
The term I like to use to describe Van Halen..... "Swing-Boogie-Bounce". No one does the SBB like Van Halen.
"I'm the one" is my favorite song off Van Halen 78'. My second favorite being Atomic Punk.
you are so cool..great reaction..its a well not some easy thing to try to play if you're not a player
I have a shop in my basement and this song is one that has nearly cost me my fingers more than once. Its hard to sit still to. And, when you are working around a tablesaw or a mitersaw, headbanging and dancing doesn't exactly mix.
Icecream Man is another song that i like of theirs.
DOA BABY, Van Halen
Led Zeppelin and The Beach Boys had a baby and named it Van Halen!
🙏❤🌹 Eddie 🌹❤🙏
Sammy is Running the Best of Both Worlds Tour, but there is NO VAN HALEN without EDDIE and ALEX ❤❤
COOL BAND WIYH THE GREATEST GUITARIST OF ALL TIME AND THE COOLEST SINGER IN MUSIC HISTORY

When you have arguably the best guitarist ever in Eddie Van Halen, you let him work his magic early and often. 2ndly, when David Lee Roth is your vocals, while maybe not the most technically sound singing, you let his showmanship take over.
I used to love to run to this song. Talk about getting pumped. 😂

You need to see Eddie Van Halen's live "Eruption" solo taped in New Halen, Connecticut back in '86.
Imagine it's 1978 and you hear this album...
"This is hard".........That's what she said!
Van Halen tends to shred 🤟🏽
Unless you play guitar, you have no idea how DIFFICULT this song is to play. Eddie was this great at 21.
Less than 1% of the world plays a musical instrument.
Fewer than that are accomplished enough to play in a band.
Fewer than that actually play live and unfettered in front of people..
Ray, At the end of the song when they do the crazy instruments… They call it taking out the trash 🤪
You would probably like this song, “ Black and Blue,” by Van Halen. 😊
When people talk about preferring the DLR version of Van Halen, this is what they are talking about. The swagger and swing on the debut album are legendary.

Listen to that in a hopped up 72 Camaro with a Jensen system on 10! Let’s go to a concert!
Open all the windows in the house and crank it up!Screw the neighbors. This is van fing halen my dear. Oh bye the way cheer up! Enjoy !
This album dropped like a BOMB! do more. Atomic Punk,or On Fire.
If you really want your chair to vibrate, check out ‘Out of Love (Again)’. 😎😉
At two min. 50 sec. It's Van Halen.
Dave had to have a splash of blues in there. He loves the style. Check out his solo career song, Sensible Shoes.
" Ice Cream Man" next!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE listen and react to "Ice cream Man" next from this same album! You'll LOVE it!!
Who wouldn't want to see an earthquake reaction,,,, It's natural,,,, why after all it is The Mighty Van Halen
🎸🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶

I think I heard this song in a bar I was having a beer someone put this song on
