Ms. Latham, senior Economics. She was gorgeous, about 25, graduated from the same high school. On Halloween, (my birthday btw) she came dressed in her skimpy, tight cheerleading outfit, which she still fit in perfectly. I sat in the front that day and didn't learn a god damn thing😍😍
That solo by Eddie in the beginning is a face melter!... and all these years later, every time I hear this song I have to stop what I'm doing and play air guitar!
Fun reaction. One of the things I always found hysterical about the video is that during the dance sequence the drummer is almost always out of step. The guy who you would think would have the best timing. It is a very fun sounding and energetic song, so you bopping around to it is completely understandable. Van Halen never took anything too seriously, and was always over the top. Also I know nothing about making videos for You Tube, but whatever you have done as far as lighting and your hair highlights is magnificent. Happy New Year. :)
This is closer to reality in the late 70's and early 80's than you would think. When I was senior in High School in 1977, we had 23-year-old hot teacher that always wore really short miniskirts. When she would write or clean the top of the chalkboard, well you know, the miniskirts did not cover much below the waist. In the same class, I had a girl that sat to my left in a desk. She would get in a mood and pull my head across and pull it into her chest and hold it there until people started to notice and I got embarrassed. Much wilder times back then. My parents called all the music I liked to listen to "DEVIL MUSIC".
THAT was a delightful reaction to a great ole song!!! PLEASE do more VH---there are 2 more videos from this album both are great "Panama" and "Jump" but there's a lot more than that...the live "Eruption" solo that people are mentioning will blow your mind completely.
Every song on the 1984 album is a banger. It was my first record as a kid. This is in my top five 80s music videos hands down. They brought that same energy to all their videos and onto the stage!
I was in junior high when this video came out... so I felt like the video was aimed right at my age. (Gen X) The drum into is still instantly recognizable and unique, after all these years. Other Van Halen songs? Hmm, some of them got played a little too much, back in the day. 'I'll Wait' is one I discovered a bit later than most of them. 'Right Now' is a big one from the later Sammy Hagar era of the band.
Van Halen at their peak! If I had a teacher that looked like that, I would have never missed school. And Rachael, did I see you blush? And I love the big 80s hair!
Michael Anthony’s “Mini me” is Yano Anaya who played Grover Dill (Scott Farkus’s henchman) in A Christmas Story. Phil Hartman is the voice of Waldo. God, I miss the 80’s when you could get by with stuff like this in the name of fun.
I was 10 years old when this song and the album (1984) it was released on came out. It was the first album I ever owned. My mom bought the record for me with its classic cover of the angel smoking a cigarette.
(A late comment.) You as a young person I can honestly, sadly say missed out on a lot of goood vibrations and energy from the pop/rock music days of the 80's. And this video reflects a very small portion of that vibe! Good reaction! ✌️😎
80's kid here. Love your humorous reactions. Back in the day when MTV was one of the only ways you could se your favorite artists. If your parents couldn't afford cable you had to go to the arcades to get your MTV doses. Great times!
How many girls you know from that time STILL coughing up the hairspray from the school bathrooms? Even the guys weren't safe from the fumes, just walking by the door being opened that cloud "poof" out into the hallway. @javierornelas3558 Don't you agree?
I watched about 50 of these reaction videos of this song and YOU were the first person to understand right off the bat what the video was about in regards to the 4 kids playing mini versions of the Van Halen band members. Congrats.
My weirdest memory related to this song involves my ex. He and I got together in early ‘85, so this song wasn’t super old. For months, every time he (or we) walked back into a house after being out, he’d say, “Heard you missed us-we’re back! I brought my pencil!” It was honestly so random, but so fun.
This song sums up the '80's in SO many ways. It what a GREAT decade to be in your twenties in S. FL!😎(Oh, BTW, this when when fun was still allowed in America). 😄👍
I was in 8th grade when this came out. Our math teacher was going to be gone for a week and told us all (but me specifically) that if we got a detention from the sub, she would double it when she got back. The very 1st day of the sub, me and my friend Roberto walked into class late (totally accidental) and when the teacher called us out on it, I swear it was unplanned, I looked back at the clock, then at the teacher and said, "Aww man, I think the clock is slow. I don't feel tardy." The entire room busted up in laughter. Detention #1 for us both. A little while into class and Roberto raises his hand to ask a question. When called upon he holds up his pencil and goes, "I brought my pencil. Now gimme something to write on man." Again the room busts up laughing. I laughed so hard I fell out of my desk onto the floor. Detention #2 for both of us and a 3rd for me for falling onto the floor. And those did get doubled so I got 6 detentions in the very 1st class with the substitute all because a great Van Halen song popped into my head at the wrong time and it was so worth it.
Same album “ Panama” …or if you want to see an early live performance of VH reaching for the top way back in 1981 “ unchained” Oakland , Ca ….you”ll see the early raw power of Van Halen throwing one hell of party
Panama and Jump should be up next, and you would enjoy the music videos. Unchained and Ain't Talking 'Bout Love would be good audio listens. In the Sammy era, you would probably appreciate the vocals on Dreams. There's a lot to dig into with VH!
Soooo there are two videos "Unchained" and "So This Is Love" that they used to show on heavy rotation on early MTV. They are live videos filmed at Oakland, Ca 6/12/81. This was my very first concert...Fair Warning tour. I was 12 years old and every time they would play those videos, I got to relive my first concert! A young mind was blown.
Also tge entire Live Without a Net. Different era, different singer, easily as much fun and energy. David was the better front man entertainer, Sammy Hagar was the better voice. Lots of debate about who was better among VH fans, but the common string was Edward and that incrinckulent guitar work. Personally I give a slight edge to the Hagar era, as the band evolved and he was the right guy to keep up with Edward. Either way, in 1978, the first time I dropped a needle on vinyl from Van Halen 1 and my entire soul melted I've been a fan.
@@kenkonwick6660 "Best Of Both Worlds" was one of those videos I always stopped what I was doing so I could watch it. MTV in their glory days was always on in my house.
There used to be an independent fan mag THE INSIDE MAGAZINE which pronted stories of the beginning of the band up to the hiring of Gary Cherone . Some of the road crew were high school buddies of the band members . Its been said Hot For Teacher was based on an actual teacher at their high school .

"What is happening?" - This always happens when someone from 1976-1984 say when they get introduced to Van Halen. You should try more of both versions (three really) of Van Halen. The David Lee Roth era and the Sammy Hagar era.
Somebody else might have already pointed this out, but the part at the end where they say what happened to everybody when they grew up was an homage to the movie "Animal House," which did the same thing with its characters at the end of the movie. One of the main characters in "Animal House" went on to become a "Gynecologist, Beverly Hills, California."
Van Halen, Def Leopard & Motley Crue started hair metal that mainly wanted to have fun in the decade of decadence. Def Leopard try Pour Some Sugar on Me and Crue’s Kickstart my Heart. For Van Halen try Panama or if you like EVH check out Eruption one of the legendary guitar solos! Same level as Freebird, Stairway or Hendrix cover of Star Spangled Banner
Love this song, love this band, love that album, love this video. The only thing I don't like about the video is the fact that it muffles part of the ICONIC drum intro. Aside from that, sh*tloads of fun. Now check out the live version of 'Unchained' where Alex lights his gong on fire. Rock n roll insanity....
These were the 80s. Loud, energetic, fun, great music. No apologies, enjoying life. I love being a GenX-er. Yes, EVH was a wizard. In the words of great Steve Vai, it's only Hendrix and EVH who carried a one-man-revolution in rock guitar. The highest prise.
Oh yes ERUPTION LIVE! EXTENDED VERSION.. is a MUST!! Yes SRV, Jeff Healey, Jimmi Hendrix, and so many more awesome guitarists. But EDDIE VAN HALEN is and will always be hailed as THEE GUITAR GOD. I look at it like giving an I Pad or Xbox 360 to a adult in the 50s
Yes, more Van Halen please. No, seriously, learn Van Halen, absorb Van Halen, be Van Halen. I promise, you won't be disappointed. Above all else, you'll have a fan in me forever. Thank you.
Ironically, the only one who had trouble with the dance routine was Alex, the drummer. You can see how lost he is. Thanks for sharing. happy New Year from Baltimore.
Thank you for this reaction. You did very well. This was the time when you could think and dream a lot about your teachers (boys/ female teachers-girls/male teachers) FANTASY TIMES. Was the time when the girls were wearing a tiny, tiny shorts and skirts as a uniform😘😘😍😍. You could crush with somebody without someone calling you a WEIRD PERSON or EEEWWW OR YUCKY 🤮 like today. It was a beautiful teen times, was the time when everything was NORMAL
One of the things that nobody seems to pick up on is that when Waldo is talking in the beginning, it's just like the voice of some of the Japanese movies when they're translated into english, the person doing the talking talks in that slow monotone
Just one hundred thousand thank you"s for resting to this epic song, video, and era, without going all woke.!! It's freaking Rock, and entertainment, done by the masters of their craft! Would have loved to see you in the crowd, in early 80s , damn having fun! ❤
I was a teenager when this came out, but I never thought much about this video. One thing I think it does really well is get across a feeling I think a lot of nerdy teens of that time, like me, had about the stereotypical Van Halen & AC/DC kids we went to school with. They were both kind of alluring because of how "sassy" and free they seemed to be, but also kind of terrifying because they seemed so anarchic and unpredictable. This video conveys that -- especially during those pause parts in the song where we hear background sounds of rowdy kids yelling and goofing around. They sound fun but maybe a little scary too. Or is it just me? : )
The yellow hot rod at the end of the video was rented for the video. The owner made the director promise not to do any burnouts or drive it fast. The director agreed. Dave, being Dave, did a burnout and drove it fast.
Ok, so it was the 80's. Mtv was a thing ... and videos sold as much music as music did. VH had really only debuted 6 years before but this band was already on their 6th studio album. Panama was the other hit from this album that absolutely everyone knows, even 6 albums in people were still blown away by Eddie and the band. By this time, as you can see by the video, they had really come into their own, were selling out stadiums and playing with other top-tier bands on a regular basis, and could probably make a hit playing nursery rhymes.
Everyone talks about Eddy guitar killer intro, and they are right, its so freaking awesome but, when i hear Alex's drum intro I immediately turn on the volume. Also, i was a teen in the 80's (15 in 84) and i dont think im the only one who had one of "those" dreams about that teacher... good times.
Van Halen was the perfect band for the MTV era. So much charisma!
The drum track is savage ... it is music science.
One of Alex's best.
I had a motorcycle that sounded like that.......
Forget the guitar solo. Wish I could play that drum part.
Alex is the King of Swing. 👏👏👏
Every kid who was born a drummer hails this as one of the best drum tracks to ever exist in human history.

OMG the curves on her.
Ms. Benson - math teacher Westrocks Middle, Norwalk Ct. Smokin HOT!
There were def actual hot teachers, but when you think back, the majority of the 'hot' ones were simply 10-15yrs younger than their co-workers 😅

Michael, Eddie and Alex did NOT want to do the dance scene but got wrangled into it. As you can tell they are not good dancers, lol.
Waldo's voice ("Aw mom, you know I'm not like other guys.") is clearly imitating movie star John Wayne.

Would have loved to see you in the crowd, in early 80s , damn having fun! ❤
Fun fact the drummer Alex Van Halen couldn't get the timing down on the dance sequences take after take the decided just to use the best one lol
I wish my teachers looked like this!!! 🤣
The yellow hot rod at the end of the video was rented for the video. The owner made the director promise not to do any burnouts or drive it fast. The director agreed. Dave, being Dave, did a burnout and drove it fast.
I was in 4th grade when this came out 😂
Ok, so it was the 80's.
*MORE VAN HALEN PLEASE!* 🤩🤘
You got to love the 80's.
Everyone talks about Eddy guitar killer intro, and they are right, its so freaking awesome but, when i hear Alex's drum intro I immediately turn on the volume.
Also, i was a teen in the 80's (15 in 84) and i dont think im the only one who had one of "those" dreams about that teacher... good times.
fun song, thanks for doing it. well done.
