Jimi Hendrix AND Eddy were asked (at different times, of course) how it felt to be the greatest guitar player in the world. They both said the same thing - "How should I know, go ask Roy Clark."

@@oldguitarguy7528 that's the main thing. People may be able to play his stuff. Eddie's stuff is always more difficult to play than Clapton or Hendrix stuff. But Ed's feel, attack, swing, and unholy rythem / ability to go rythem to lead and back is just unfair. No one who plays his stuff sounds anything remotely close to his stuff...

Arguably the ultimate Van Halen song, from undoubtedly the best Van Halen record, their debut. True memory: I'm 9, I'm listening to this, holding up the big vinyl record cover, looking at the man in the upper left, saying to myself, "I want to be him." RIP EVH. And you're right Asia, he was the best rock guitar player.

I often cite this as the ultimate VH song as well. It’s just every band member proving why they are “the one you love”. Too bad the band broke up in 1984 and were never heard from again… 😉
Damn, they changed everything. Look at Billboard in 1978 and you’ll just laugh at the juxtaposition of this music against everything else going on at the time.

Nobody changed the electric guitar like EVH. It's funny that when other famous guitarist saw his rig (what he used for effects and amplification) they could not believe it. They realized it was in his fingers and talent. There will never be another like him, ever! He has some of the best high vocal pipes and a very important part of the Van Halen sound!

What a great track off of one of the most influential albums of all time. The pace is psychotic and they blew everyone away when we saw them on their first big tour, opening for Black Sabbath. First thing we all agreed on after their set and first witness to Eruption is we had seen something along the lines of A new, Jimi Hendrix type of guitar hero who would influence all rock guitarists going forward. Great choice, love that song. Also from their debut album, try Atomic Punk, another banger. Van Halen forever! Enjoy. 🎵🎸🎶

This song (at 236 bpm) encapsulates EVH’s bursting onto the scene and his talent: rhythm playing, soloing, writing and innovation. He created and played this when he was 22. The rhythm is a subtle Jazz shuffle that is hard to imitate and he has two major solos in it, although he’s basically EVH soloing with hammer ons, pull offs, tapping, bending, etc., through the whole thing between the rhythm parts. It’s a classic that is completely original.

I was 10 years old he has a massive stereo with 4 speakers and puts that album on very loud and I sat there with my mouth wide open because at that time you did not hear guitar playing like that. I was mesmerized and I said the next day I quit sports and earned money with a lawnmowing route in the neighborhood and got a guitar, and haven;t stopped since. I write and record music still. I have music that I recorded on my channel and writing music and having an outlet to put a very traumatic growing up time helped keep me out of a lot of trouble I could have gotten into along with the hand of God keeping me from prison time or death. But that album is very fond memories and staring at that album cover thinking how cool Eddie looked LOL. Good times :) blessings to both of you!

There are 2 great things about this reaction video.
    1. Reacting to my all time favorite VH song.
    2. The George Jefferson T shirt is awesome !
The 2 key components to make any video successful. 😂😂😂

I've seen these guys 3 times in concert, '82-'84- '86 twice with Dave and once with Sammy. They were my favorite band through the '80's. My favorite album of all of their's is Women and Children First. Favorite song from that album, and all of them is, And The Cradle Will Rock.

Listening to Asian get emotional about Eddie's playing, made me emotional. Damn. I used to be a badass. Black belt in Karate, wrestled, played football and baseball, my share of fist fights. Now I'm just a regular dude, 53 years old, wife is asleep in the other room, and I get a little tear in the eye watching someone of a different color, age group, and gender appreciating my idol, the King, the sound track of my life, and appreciating it not for clicks, but seeing the honest, real reaction. These reaction videos are the best thing on the internet. Our government wants us divided. But music brings us together. Music is a blessing from God. Government is an unproductive, bloated entity that is supposed to serve us, but now sees us as their servants. More reactions please.

Eddie Van Halen established himself as one of the world's elite guitar players at only 22 years old, on his very first album, playing a guitar he pieced together from spare parts! Van Halen went from backyard parties in Pasadena to conquering the world!

Eddie Van Halen was one of those iconic guitarists that made rock n' roll history 🤘🤘🎸ever since the birth of rock n' roll music...
U got those talents that just dropped a bomb with their skills on the guitar... 🎸 Chuck Berry in the 1950's... Jimi Hendrix in the 1960's... Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple/ Rainbow) in the 70's... and then Eddie Van Halen of Van Halen in the late 70's/ early 80's... followed by Stevie Ray Vaughan... Yngwie J. Malmsteen... Steve Vai... Joe Satriani... Dave Mustaine... and so many others... 🤘🤘

I saw some other comments on here where they were saying this was a bit off the charts and that made beat you in singles but you have to understand, this was the explosion of so-called AOR FM Rock, meaning that now FM carried way better than AM radio did before and they started playing entire sides of rock albums and sometimes the entire album. It just means album-oriented Rock. And whether it happened on the radio or not, which it did, any time you went to the lake or throw a party or did whatever, you would have the record or the 8-track cassette or whatever and play the entire album. So every single song on this first album became immensely popular. Every single song including this one. This one was on fire. It was crazy. And it is weird how they throw that doo-wop hang in there, but it works great because it shows off that they can do that kind of thing and then it drops immediately back into just total ass kicking roller coaster. They did the same thing on their second album and I can't remember the song, I think it might be called ice cream man. But this was all about summer in the late 70s, girlfriends and going to the lake and riding dirt bikes and taking lots of risks and drinking Jack Daniels and getting in fights and just everything that goes with just coming of age. This music just seemed to capture it perfectly.

A very raw recording as well, no studio trickery. It's precision, but it's mainly feel. In the groove with his brother.

*Asia & BJ, enjoy the Ear'gasm! I do miss this era in Rock. I got to see them twice ('82 and '83) before the breakup, and never saw them with Sammy...just couldn't bring myself to do it. Can't wait until the reaction for their song: Atomic punk.*

Fun fact: This song is technically called "Show Your Love." They wrote it early in their club days, maybe around 1975. You can hear the chorus "I'm the one, the one you love, come on baby show your love." Their producer Ted Templeman had them change the name of the song on the album. The reason...he didn't want another song with the word "love" in the title, as they already had Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love and Feel Your Love Tonight. It's just a name change on the album, no lyrics were changed, but that is the reason why they didn't keep the original name of the song.

Steve Vai put it well when he said, yea I’m a great guitar player by Edward also wrote music, and sold lots and lots of albums. This song is a great example of the whole band and each individual parts. Dave’s voice can’t be replicated,Al’s drums like the young man in this video said is in time with Eddie’s rhythm, which is phenomenal in its own right. Mikes bass licks and their background vocals, this is Van Halen raw in the studio and tops outta the gate. Great reaction loved it!

this is live in the studio by the way. so, if your wondering how good, precise, 'attention to detail' can they play? this is a good example. note: there aren't 2 guitar tracks. one extremely impressive young man playing a frenetically paced blues riff on guitar along with Al and Mike throwing down a ramped up boogie beat to make your head spin... bear in mind it's their first record. EVH is 22, Alex and Mike are by this time 24, David was about to turn 23. none of them play/sing like young men. they were experienced, seasoned, very rehearsed, focused, professional. incredible.
