Lemmy is an absolute legend. He lived a simple life for a rock star. Had a tiny two room apartment on the sunset strip near the Rainbow Bar and Grill which was his local hang. There are endless Lemmy stories from musicians and fans, and all of the point to him being a great guy. Simple, humble rock and roll legend.
Could not agree more. In 79 80s would bump into him frequently at various (mostly punk) gigs. 999, madness, feelgood, specials, sham 69. Et al. Really cool decent friendly man. Great fun.
After he died, the Rainbow created the Lemmy - an ounce and a half of Jack Daniel's, a splash of lime, over ice and topped with Coke. If I remember the recipe right. I also think that it was shaken.
Lemmy was a great lyricist. He's underestimated or pigeon holed because of how he looked. He liked to surprise people w/ big discussions of history. He's kind of a Forest Gump like figure in rock and roll. Saw the Beatles play the Cavern Club. Roady for Hendrix. Sang lead on Hawkwind's only hit Silver Machine (legendary British psychedelic band). Found Chrissie Hynde her guitarist for the Pretenders. Tried to teach Sid Vicious bass for Sex Pistols. Loaned Joan Jett (or the Runaways?) equipment and bullet belt for her England debut. And of course is the Godfather of speed and thrash metal bands, via Motorhead for 40ish years. Really a legendary guy.
This is the classic line up of Motorhead. Sadly all three are no longer with us. Drummer, Phil passed away in 2015 and Lemmy a few months later. Guitarist, Eddie, passed away a little over two years after Lemmy. Considering how hard they partied, it's amazing they lasted that long. They will forever be legends, all three.
"We are Motorhead! And we play rock n' roll!" - Lemmy Kilmister (vocals & bass) would introduce Motorhead in concert. If it wasn't obvious on 'Ace of Spades' ... Lemmy had an appetite for gambling and slot machines. He burned quite a bit of money gambling in his lifetime. He passed away in 2015 (R.I.P.) His band Motorhead was formed in 1975 and their brand of fast and furious heavy rock n' roll was the bridge between punk rock and heavy metal. They were a huge influence on every rock/ metal band in the 80's, 90's and beyond... from Metallica and Guns N' Roses... to Nirvana and Nine Inch Nails... even though Motorhead were not as commercially successful. Some of Motorhead's other songs - 'Overkill' ... 'Killed by death' ... 'Dancing on your grave' ... 'Bomber' ... 'Deaf forever'... 'Eat the rich'... 🤘🤘🔥🔥 Ian Kilmister was born in England and was into rock n' roll (including the lifestyle of booze, drugs and women)... He loved 50's American rock n' roll and eventually saw The Beatles in their early days playing the Cavern Club in Liverpool... He joined the UK beat combo band The Rockin' Vickers in the 60's on rhythm guitar and earned the name 'Lemmy' because he was always asking for money ("Lemme a five... Lemme a ten...") Lemmy became a roadie for Jimi Hendrix in 1967 when he moved to London. In 1971, Lemmy was asked to fill-in on bass for the UK band Hawkwind (He had never played bass before!) But Lemmy realized he was good at bass and started writing his own songs... He played bass w/ distortion so that it sounded like a rhythm guitar... One of his songs 'Silver machine'... became a Hawkwind hit single. However, Lemmy was fired by Hawkwind in 1975. In 1975, Lemmy formed his band Motorhead upon returning to England, named after a Hawkwind song he had written - 'Motorhead'... Larry Wallis (guitar) and Lucas Fox (drums) were the original trio but critics, press and fans thought they were terrible... They recorded a debut album in 1976 and Hawkwind's record label refused to release it. Motorhead was dubbed "The best worst band"... Lemmy boasted, "If Motorhead moved in next door to you, your lawn would die." 🤣 It was the addition of 'Fast' Eddie Clarke (guitar) and Phil 'Philthy Animal' Taylor (drums) that finally made Motorhead blossom by 1978 as a rock trio - their classic line-up ... Their 2nd and 3rd albums 'Overkill' and 'Bomber' were released in 1979 and Motorhead rarely stopped touring ... 'Ace of Spades' was their 4th album released in 1980 and it charted at #4 in the UK... Their 1981 live album "No sleep til Hammersmith" shocked everyone by charting at #1 on the UK. However, as Motorhead toured N. America in 1982 for the 5th studio album 'Iron fist'... the volatile clashes between the 3 members finally resulted in guitarist 'Fast' Eddie Clarke being ousted from Motorhead. However, fans did not like his replacement - former Thin Lizzy guitarist Brian 'Robbo' Roberston, who recorded their 1983 album 'Another perfect day'... Both Robbo and Filthy left Motorhead by 1984. Lemmy relaunched Motorhead in 1985 for their 10th anniversary w/ 2 new guitarists joining - Phillip 'Zoom' Campbell and Mick 'Wurzel' Burston... and Pete Gill (drums) ... 'Orgasmatron' was released in 1986 before Pete Gill was fired and drummer Philthy rejoined Motorhead in 1987 for the album "Rock n' Roll"... However, due to financial issues brought by years of mismanagement, Motorhead was forced to relocate out of England... Lemmy settled in Los Angeles and lived in an apartment on Sunset Strip from 1990 until he passed away. In 1991, Motorhead were nominated for a Grammy for the album '1916'... (They would win a Grammy for their cover of Metallica's "Whiplash") but drummer Philthy was fired in '91 and replaced by the Swedish Mikkey Dee (drums) as they recorded the 1992 album 'March or die'... Motorhead became a trio again in 1995 (Lemmy, Philip Campbell & Mikkey Dee) after guitarist Wurzel left the band and was not replaced after the albums 'Bastards' (1993) and 'Sacrifice' (1995)... Motorhead stayed that way until Lemmy's death in 2015. Motorhead released a string of albums before their 17th studio album 'Inferno' in 2004 became an unexpected best-seller... Motorhead experienced a worldwide peak in popularity in their last decade (2005 to 2015) selling out tours and their albums charting worldwide. Motorhead frontman Lemmy was the subject of a 2010 documentary movie 'Lemmy' that captured the life and times of Lemmy Kilmister. Sadly, former guitarist Mick 'Wurzel' Burston passed away in 2011... former drummer Philthy passed away in 2015 ...and Lemmy Kilmister soon followed in late 2015 from cancer (R.I.P.) ... Lemmy's death was the end of Motorhead. Former guitarist 'Fast' Eddie Clarke passed away in 2018... Clarke once said, "I'd rather have 'Ace of Spades' than a million quid in the bank... cos 'Ace of Spades' will be around long after I'm gone..."
Yeah. Wild Bill Hickock was killed while sitting at a card table, I believe shot in the back of the head, and the hand he had been dealt was ace of spades, ace of clubs, 8 of spades, 8 of clubs(black aces and black 8s) so that hand became infamously known as the dead man's hand and in a lot of like western pictures and stuff getting that hand is viewed as an omen of death.
They were the prototype thrash metal band, even though Lemmy never considered them a metal band. Ultimately, they're probably the loudest, heaviest, thrashiest rock n roll band ever. But Slayer, Metallica, Anthrax etc drew massive inspiration from them. If you get a chance, check out their live album 'No Sleep til Hammersmith', still one of the most blistering live albums ever released. Oh, and check out 'The Young Ones' too....
I saw Motorhead at Sonisphere in 2011, five years before he passed. An old man stationary in front of the high-mounted microphone. Absolutely fucking slayed, a field of metalheads lost their collective shite. My friends and I toasted his passing knowing we would never contribute a fraction of what Lemmy has to an entire subculture.
The "Dead man's hand" is a pair of Aces and a pair of 8s in poker Specially if all black It's said to be some type of bad omen, probably originating from that dude mentioned in the subtitles that died
You should never feel awkward about your height. My GF grew up facing the same challenges. In fact, all of her classmates called her a giraffe. Later, they weren't laughing when she earned a full NCAA division 1 volleyball scholarship. Her ultra fit lengthy 5 ft 11 3/4 in physique paid big dividends. Today, she is a fully tenured professor of kinesiology and elite IFBB Pro bikini fitness competitor. Indeed, life can turn on a dime. I love my beautiful giraffe.👍
Back in my young days I listened a lot to synth music. One day one of my friends pulled out a tape he got from his big brother and said you got to check this one out. It was Motörhead - Ace Of Spades and I was sold to heavy metal 😎
RIP Lemmy: the rocker's rocker. Pro safety tip: do NOT put this on the playlist in your car, or it'll be RIP you. I used to assume that he had the mic stand so high so that it made him hold his head up and sing better. Then I saw an interview where he said it was actually due to stage fright, so that he didn't have to look at the audience! 🤣 Just for your own fun Ray, you should find the video of them doing this song on the TV show The Young Ones. It's... an experience.
The first ‘big’ band I ever saw live was Motörhead. I think they just released ‘No Sleep ‘Til Hammersmith’. Already one of the top acts in the world of hard rock, yet they still played relatively small venues. It was freakin cool and I’ll never forget it. 🧡
They took years to finally become an overnight sensation with their 2nd album and single Overkill - they became big with punks aswell as metalheads because of their "speed" - ( both musical as well as chemical).
Killer!!! I saw Motorhead live twice, talk about a steamroller of a band! First time they opened for Ozzy Osbourne with the Blizzard of Oz with Randy Rhodes on scorching lead guitar. Motorhead still had the 3 original members and got a generous opening set of over an hour, they were as advertised and Lemmy was beyond crazy on that bass guitar. Second time saw them in a large bar in West Hart for CT, we were right against the stage, when Lemmy turned on his amps we knew we were in for it! Bang out set with Brian Robertson (Thin Lizzy) now on blistering guitar. My ears rang for a couple days after and I know I had a little hearing loss as well BUT Damn, it was worth it. Point blank to Lemmy Kilmister in Rock Rebel Mode was a sight to behold, he loved bantering with the fans. Killer Band, try One Track Mind for more. Enjoy! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎶🔥
If you want energy listen to Overkill. If you want a philosophy listen to Stone Dead Forever. If you want to hear blues listen to I'm Your Man. If you want a darkness listen to Joy of Labour. If you want to charge into a battle listen to Deaf Forever. If you want comedy listen to Dr Rock. If you want to feel ALIVE listen to ALL of Motorhead. Better than weed, faster than speed.
If you want horror, there's "Hell On Earth," if you want sorrow, there's "1916," if you want to feel like you're both hyped and bulletproof, there's "Rock Out."
I was lucky to see them live twice. Before the vocalist Lemmy passed away in 2015. Kickass performance. Such an iconic band. Definitely should check out their song “Overkill.”
Liked and subbed earlier tonight ( first time here then ). Forgot to mention,...I like your set up ( the classic, mathematical 1/3 - 2/3 spir@l )! Also, can see the person you are, the video and it works well when " zoomed " in from original on the phone! From west coast Canada 🇨🇦, peace.
Yes, the "Deadman's Hand" was aces & eight's. It was the hand Wild Bill was holding when he was shot dead in Deadwood South Dakota. It was also reverenced in movies like Stagecoach and Winchester 73. This spring I had a Woodpecker problem. It was pecking on my wall trying to make a home. He'd go away if I made noise. When I'd leave I'd crank up Ace Of Spades. Kept the Woodpecker away. Thanks for the reaction and rock on.
You should check out Lemmy's first band, Hawkwind for a completely different vibe. Their song "Silver Machine" also features him on vocals and is one of their better known tracks.
He was only a member of the band for one album and tour. He said that was fired because they said he had a drug problem; he wasn't using the same drugs that the rest of the band were.
From the re-released single, many years later "I don't want to live forever. But apparently I am". How the heck Lemmy lived so long is a mystery; the epitome of a rock & roll lifestyle
This is one of those songs that can help you relax and get your bloodpressure to an acceptable level after a lot of stress at work, when you get home put on this song on repeat and play it at WW3 level for at least 20 minutes while you are laying down on a couch or whatever, this only works with a real soundsystem everything in the house must be vibrating so much that the neighbours know that they have to buy a case of cold beer because you had a rough day. ;-)
Before Lemmy was replaced in Hawkwind due to getting busted at a boarder on tour this song is very much a different take of Kings of Speed (structure wise) from them just faster and Louder. Frist show I ever seen them at was the last I didn't bring ear protection to ears rang for 3 days after it R.I.P. Lemmy! Also where the bands name came from Motorhead was a Hawkwind song.
back in the day (farther back than I'd like to admit), my one group of friends, we couldn't begin a session of drinks, cards and tunes without this one dropping first.
I have very fond memories of us going back to a friends house after a session at the pub and throwing this on the record player and stomping away, happy days.
Fun fact about their drummer Phil. He broke his hand in a fist fight on the eve of a tour, and proceeded to play said tour by taping a drum stick to his broken hand, rock n roll af
@@vicprovost2561 Man, I listen to the title track of this album since I was 18 years. I have 33 now. I started to actively listen to then months before the "Motörizer" álbum was released. It was like breathing fresh air; Only God do it better. I said during a long time that "Another Perfect Day" in the worst of the times and in the best of the times was the title track of my life" As for the album itself, "One track mind", "Shine" and "Back at the funny farm" are some seriously heavy bangers.
@@Elcezina The 2nd time I saw them, it was the tour for that album. Right against the stage, 3 feet from Lemmy and Brian Robertson on screaming guitar, killer show.
day 10 of recomending MASTODON or GOJIRA. theyre highly melodical bands even gojira tends to be heavier i still think you would love them. i would go for Another World by Gojira and Teardrinker from Mastodon. thx for the content!
been listening to motorhead for 40+ years.. love them sooo much... I miss Lemmy :( BTW.. their cover of Bowies heroes is worth a listen also... P.S. I play drums for 1-3 hours a night and man...Phil is a monster.... P.P.S. Motorhead was the one band that punk, thrash, metal, rock fans all loved without judgement :) You should check out more of their songs.. "Iron Fist" is worth a listen :)
Towards the end of his life, when he preformed this live after the lyrics “I don’t want to live for ever” he would sing “but apparently I am” instead of “don’t forget the joker” 😂
I love mashups, and this guy named Bill McClintock relies quite often on Motorhead songs. One of my favorites is him mashing up this song, "Ace of Spades" and the Isley Brothers "Shout". These sound like songs that wouldn't mix - but he does it. I don't see many people reacting to his mashups, but would be fun to see someone start doing this - only because he uses such weird combinations (Men at Work & Metallica, Spice Girls & Slipknot, The Trammps & Rob Zombie).
A lot of those mashups he goes feature soul and metal; the two genres complement each other very nicely. There's a great one of Sabbath's Children of the Grave and Hot Stuff by Donna Summer.
In some ways, Motörhead had two guitar players and no bass player, because Lemmy didn't play like conventional bass players. He was almost playing rhythm guitar on a bass. They introduced the umlaut to decades of abuse by bands that followed. And they were the band that both punks and metals fans would go to see and not fight each other.
You should check out (Amigo the devil- another man’s grave) he’s probably my favorite artist as of late and great reaction Motörhead has always been awesome
You could try out Hawkwind doing "Silver Machine" - Lemmy was the bass and vocalist for them in the early/mid 70's until he "left" them to form Motorhead.
Energy... It should also be played at a volume that makes your ears positively hurt. "A jumbojet strapped to each ear", Ian Gillan of Deep Purple said of the volume at their concerts.
Lemmy once had a talk with his then 17-year old son about drugs. "Son, promise me that when you grow up, don't do coke. Please, just don't do coke. Just do speed, it's much better for you."
Damn Right
Except for the guys from the "Europe" band. And I think it was deserved.
@@Elcezina I totally forgot about that. Yes, I agree.
“We are Motörhead and we play Rock n Roll”
Amen
They're all dead now 🫤 But in these 3 minutes they live forever
Well said
Witness!
They live in my head rent free 😭

And he always insisted that Motörhead was a rock & roll band.
Lemmy's mole had more personality than most bands lead singers. RIP
As person at all, not only lead singers.
Rest in Power, "Fast Eddie" Clarke, "Philthy Animal" Taylor, and, Ian Fraser "Lemmy" Kilmister! The greatest Rock 'N' Roll band that ever was!
The world wouldn't have so many great bands if not for Motorhead.
So true
If you never heard of Airborne (Australian band), they were heavily influenced by Lemmy and AC/DC.
The story is, Wild Bill Hickok was shot dead while playing poker. His hand was Ace's & Eights. So it's now called "The dead mans hand."
We are Motörhead we play Rock‘n Roll. Hell yeah.
Fast Eddie on lead, such superb tone. Lemmy on bass, such guts. Phil on drums, phenomenal. Totally totally incredible.
“Born to Lose… Live to Win” - Lemmy ♠️

same!
@ShiftnWolf72 but not even their songs could top the magic that was "Doctor Marten's Boots!"
I was already into Motorhead at that point, but three weeks later the Damned were on and that was a similar awakening for me...!
Lemmy was raw, fast, and tremendously rock. Long live Motorhead!
The subtitles are from the TV show that this was repeated on. Top Of The Pops 2, I think. Every song had random facts throughout.
Seen them 9 times, hung with Lem quite a few times, the original trio...legendary.

The "Dead man's hand" is a pair of Aces and a pair of 8s in poker

They can't be all black because it's a full house. 2 of one and three of the other. 😂 Don't know where you heard that.

Saw them 5 times in the early 90s. Good sh!t.
Many consider MH a heavy metal band, but Lemmy says they are a punk band and I agree. More punk than metal.
"I'm So Bad" "Killed By Death" "Orgasmatron" and "Eat the Rich" are some other bangin' Motorhead jams you should get into.
Great reaction!
I was lucky to see them live twice. Before the vocalist Lemmy passed away in 2015. Kickass performance. Such an iconic band. Definitely should check out their song “Overkill.”
An all female band "DRAIN STH" does a cover of this that is exceptional!
This is simply just.... MOTÖRHEAD!! 🤘😎
When this hit MTV, it was like a Bomb. A sub 3 minute thrash metal bomb
Oh my, she is such a beautiful woman!
Rip lemmy 🎸
Lemmy played a legendary bass! Brilliant!
Again "Ace Of Spades"... It's so pissing me off! More than 24 albums, and all that people know is only "Ace Of Spades". I can bet 100 colombiam peso that Rayactions will not ever return to this band on this channel again, it's such a fucкing shame. RIP Lemmy, this what's he said about this song: "If I went to a Little Richard concert, I would expect to hear Long Tall Sally. But we didn't stop after that record [Ace Of Spades], you know, since then we've had quite a lot of good releases. But the fans want to hear it, so we still play it every night. As for me: «Hey dude, come on, Ace of Spades» - is the most common phrase that kills me!" ©
You should check out Lemmy's first band, Hawkwind for a completely different vibe.
Loved your reaction ❤
And, of course the colour of your hair and nails - simply beautiful.
hey man, giraffes are cool and mice are cute.
I saw them live in the early 80s, they opened for Megadeath.
This is one of those songs that can help you relax and get your bloodpressure to an acceptable level after a lot of stress at work,
when you get home put on this song on repeat and play it at WW3 level for at least 20 minutes while you are laying down on a couch
or whatever, this only works with a real soundsystem everything in the house must be vibrating so much that the neighbours know
that they have to buy a case of cold beer because you had a rough day. ;-)
R.I.P Lemmy 🤘
Lemmy never claimed to perform metal. He always insisted that what he performed was rock-n-roll.
Lemmy was the bassist for Hawkwind and Motorhead was the name of the last song he wrote before he split from the band.
Great song, cool reaction. Motorhead pretty much invented "crossover" (metal/punk) before the genre was named.
Good to see the young'uns catching on to what we enjoyed.
back in the day (farther back than I'd like to admit), my one group of friends, we couldn't begin a session of drinks, cards and tunes without this one dropping first.
I have very fond memories of us going back to a friends house after a session at the pub and throwing this on the record player and stomping away, happy days.
Amazing band! Sadly they are all gone now... R.I.P
Be safe
Miss these guys, seen that line up twice and many more times since. Most bands would probably sight Motorhead as an influence
Fun fact about their drummer Phil. He broke his hand in a fist fight on the eve of a tour, and proceeded to play said tour by taping a drum stick to his broken hand, rock n roll af
The drummer is called the animal, if you like the Muppets, you will meet him sometimes again. Also that crazy, lol. Thx for watching.
I HIGHLY recommend the underestimated wonderful, beautifully unique "Another pefect day", also from Motorhead
That album is a classic, One Track Mind is epic!
@@vicprovost2561 Man, I listen to the title track of this album since I was 18 years. I have 33 now. I started to actively listen to then months before the "Motörizer" álbum was released. It was like breathing fresh air; Only God do it better.
I said during a long time that "Another Perfect Day" in the worst of the times and in the best of the times was the title track of my life"
As for the album itself, "One track mind", "Shine" and "Back at the funny farm" are some seriously heavy bangers.
@@Elcezina The 2nd time I saw them, it was the tour for that album.
Right against the stage, 3 feet from Lemmy and Brian Robertson on screaming guitar, killer show.
@@vicprovost2561 Did they played that one?
@@Elcezina Yes, they played much of that album.
What a great reaction to the great Motorhead!!! So pretty too!!!
day 10 of recomending MASTODON or GOJIRA. theyre highly melodical bands even gojira tends to be heavier i still think you would love them. i would go for Another World by Gojira and Teardrinker from Mastodon. thx for the content!
been listening to motorhead for 40+ years.. love them sooo much...
RIP Lem, Fast Eddie & Philthy - Motorhead for life 🤘🤘🤘
When saw for the first time live on stage the Motorhead in a small basketball stage in Athens Greece, after can't hear clean for 3-4 days🤘.
Like,"born to lose live to win"🤘❤🤘
The ace of spades was also used in Vietnam for a little psychological warfare.
Towards the end of his life, when he preformed this live after the lyrics “I don’t want to live for ever” he would sing “but apparently I am” instead of “don’t forget the joker” 😂
Lemmy visited Finland...according to him, we were insane like him.
Somewhere i read a meme that said Lemmy is the Chuck Norris of Rock'n'Roll.. wrong... Chuck Norris is the Lemmy of punching.
Those subtitles remind me of the old TV show Pop-Up Video from back in the day
Best looking mouse headed giraffe I've ever seen lol😂
Saw them at Leeds on the bomber tour 1980 ish. Mental gig. Happy days
That was so raw and imperfect, that was the real deal, not polished. Lemmy was never really perfectly in tune, but who the f*** cares. Epic!
Don't worry, once you've heard one Motorhead song you've heard them all
That being said, they're all this good
You should check out (Amigo the devil- another man’s grave) he’s probably my favorite artist as of late and great reaction Motörhead has always been awesome
OK, Motorhead did an EP with Girls School under the monika "Head Girl", the version of "please don't touch" is worth your listen.
You could try out Hawkwind doing "Silver Machine" - Lemmy was the bass and vocalist for them in the early/mid 70's until he "left" them to form Motorhead.
Later on in their career lemmy absolutely hated playing this song live, because the radio way overplayed it, and just killed the song for him
You should definitely check out their song called Overkill since you liked the energy in this song
Energy... It should also be played at a volume that makes your ears positively hurt. "A jumbojet strapped to each ear", Ian Gillan of Deep Purple said of the volume at their concerts.
The "Dead Man's Hand" is two pair, black aces and black 8's.
We missing you Lemmy 🤘🤘
Lemmy once had a talk with his then 17-year old son about drugs. "Son, promise me that when you grow up, don't do coke. Please, just don't do coke. Just do speed, it's much better for you."
in 1991 played a Video Game
with Lemmy at the Scrap Bar NYC
GREAT SONG AND GREAT REACTION
