No wonder they don’t have the Sims 2 for sale anymore. They don’t want people to realise they can get a full sims experience with fully fleshed out expansion packs from an older game

@@alimica I've heard somewhere that TS4 has much smaller team, but also somewhere else that it's bigger than TS3, so I don't know what to make of it. Also something about Maxis/EA clashing and different people in higher positions and the pressure/expectations... What I personally think is that since it was intended to be a mobile game, hence there were (or better were not 😂) all the lacking features at launch, and it just cannot shake back from that. They also know that simmers will buy anything and by making the game free - I think they are already testing this "microtransactions model", since the whole TS4 is one enormous MACROTRANSACTION 😅, I mean I would rather buy a gaming computer for the price of the whole 70+ pack/kit/whatever TS4 to be able to play TS3 without lag. Whenever I've played TS4, I've felt like somebody should pay me for playing it and not the other way around. 🙃

I even said as much on the Sims Forums, I was called a conspiracy theorist and told I was blowing things out of proportion etc. It's nice to see I wasn't the only one who saw that Kits = Microtransactionw.
The sad thing is there's really no financial reason for them to stop heading in that direction, because there are a ton of people who will be willing to pay anything for whatever EAxis puts out.
Their dlcs in general involve you paying money for a small amount of things, since Sims 2, Sims 1 was kinda reasonable at least.
@@aikesscs Most people know that they have to pay for DLC, like that's the whole point. It becomes unreasonable when only one item is hidden behind a $2.00 pay wall, even more so if it's "limited" ppl get sucked into FOMO and panic buy. It's very insidious.

I have said this from the beginning, as long as Grant Rodiek is the lead producer and game director the sims will fail. He was a big reason for sims 4 failing before he bailed to go to Sims 5 production. He literally got banned from twitter (by banned I mean the higher ups at EA told him to literally stop tweeting) for saying really horrible things to fans.....he is probably one of the worst employees the sims has and the fact he is so high up now is a really bad sign. If you look into the things he has done and said you will see why. He constantly used to talk about making things he wants as a lead producer and not what fans want.....

I am absolutely not interested in a Second Life version of the Sims cause I play the Sims to escape other people lol. Also I really hate free to play games. They make the game INSUFFERABLE in a lot of ways to get you to spend real life money and speed things up. Gem systems, time gating, fomo, etc etc. No thanks!
It's almost as if they have no idea whatsoever how many neurodiverse players there are - those of us who actively AVOID social interactions and like the solitude and peace of a single-player, sandbox game with no pressures on time or social skills

They really are making every meme of "wipe your ass for $49.99!" more and more literal. You'd think they'd learn their lesson with how people gave backlash with Sims 4 being what it was before they backtracked and used the awful code. Sims 4 is awful, I'm not gonna beat around the bush, it was doomed to be a buggy awful game without mods to fix it because of the backtracking at the last minute. But nope, people continuing to pay stupid prices for a few pieces of clothing or barely any furniture made them more comfortable. Life sims don't need any damn microtransactions, the mobile games suck for a reason.

I hear you. I’m part of the problem I buy all the expansions, game pack, stuff pack and kits in hopes they make the game better. Also, I don’t use mods or cc its the only way i get new stuff. It’s a choices but mods and cc broke my game i had to delete and I lost everything. But I get it EA is milking us.

@@RandyTheAmazing3 i have played with mods and cc. The upkeep isn’t for me. I don’t want to have to uninstall or remove folders. That’s a deal breaker for me.
@@kathyanegron8891 You dont have to do this. Just organize them and keep it neat and tidy. all you have to do is drop the patch into the folder it belongs to, unzip, and it will auto override matchinf files. The organization keeps it easy to manage and update and easy to pull out broken content
also most mods update within like,, a day,, so its really not like you have to do anything.
Microtransactions are the #1 thing I absolutely despise in games, so if TS5 is really like this then I'm not going anywhere near it, I'll be sticking with 3 and 4, and having a look at games like Life By You and Paralives.

I commented this under someone earlier, but tbh Sims 4 is nothing compared to 2 and 3. I don’t have all the 3 dlc but the gameplay is so much fuller than the $1000 worth of content that 4 has. And I downloaded 2 for free off an archive gaming website, and omfg I got so used to playing it that it’s now my go-to. It has so many little details to make it realistic, isn’t as corny, and gives me so much nostalgia for the early 2000s

Their market isn't the older players who know the franchise, it's kids. That's why it's all so deeply 'family-friendly' in 4, so they can sucker in dumb kids who don't know what they're missing out on.
The free to play is very intentional. This is why they have been turning this game super PG for younger players. Players that don't have the history with the Sims. They won't understand all the things that they will be paying for used to come with the game. It won't matter what long time player say or how we feel. EA is geared to make as much money as possible. And there are most of us simmers that buy content no matter how badly developed it is. And we have proven this repeatedly to EA.
I've seen parents complaining that TS4 is too "wild and raunchy", like if these parents things TS4 is, well, that. They would faint if they played TS2&3... 😅😅😅
I pretty much only play my sims 3 game or if I turn on sims 4 it’s only to build. I pretty much have already given up but from time to time will watch one of these videos. I haven’t bought a pack of any kind in ages and have no kits at all.

I'm so worried with how often they're mentioning the ability to play on phones. One of the many problems I had with TS4 is that they majorly downgraded the capabilities of the game so it could run on potatoes, and it sounds like they're moving even further in that direction.
That’s my concern as well. When I heard it could be played on mobile phones, not what I wanted to hear. I wouldn’t mind if they made a mobile version for those that are into that, but it sounds like pc and phone will be the same game. That makes me super nervous after Sims 4 was nerfed so much compared to previous iterations. I hope I’m just totally wrong but I feel like in order for the same version on pc to work on phones, it would have to be nerfed also. 😟
I’m basically convinced at this point that the sims listens to their fans and does the exact opposite just to spite us.
If I want to play IMVU or Second Life, I will get on those sites, I play the Sims to play the Sims. Sims players are different from other players, each in their own unique way, and if we change things to be like IMVU or Second Life then it would take away a lot of the freedom the Sims players have. That said, we get depended on packs and mods for the game to be playable. Micro transactions will kill the game--like it did Sims 3.

@@lirpa2300yeah, but the sims 3 store was just the beginning testing phases on how they can cashgrab players. They continued on with Sims 4 and now kits. Sims 5 is the result of players hopelessly buying any and all sims content.

If project Rene flops (and I think it will) trust I will happily move on to Paralives and stick to sims 2 and sims 3 (maybe sims 4 too, the mods really make it enjoyable for me)

Since it’s crowdfunded, it was announced right away. Paralives was never gonna come out before 2024. Can’t believe people cannot grasp that games take development time, especially when made by an indie studio

The way they put such a large emphasis on apartment customization makes me wonder if you‘ll only have apartments to choose from. It sounds like you start with one, which you can furnish however you like (with space restrictions ofc). You‘ll have the chance to buy bigger ones, probably for real money. Then they mention character and clothing customization and the social play aspect. Yet they don‘t talk about gameplay. It seems this will be a very restrictive, aesthetic-based game. Much like TS4 where people spend most of the time building or in cas because the gameplay is tremendously boring. All the young girls playing cozy games will love it and won‘t mind the micro-transactions. It will be the Sims in name only. Using all the assets without the essence. I sincerely hope they crash and burn but I fear Karma is dead..

I'm concerned about the way they use the term "apartment" as well. If the game ends up that limited, so many of the players that love to build amazing houses and create content for that purpose is going to be completely gone. I like so many others in the comments will not be playing Project Renee if it is just apartments and even a bigger concern; everything is behind a pay wall. I also want to play solo without people trying to contact me or bugging the ever loving hell out of me. This is my downtime, my unwind time. Not hey, do you want to be my friend.

Agreed... they are going to ruin it! Hoping paralives and LBY step up. Simmers have been ok with paying for the game and some kits/packs. This mobile gaming microtransactions and or subscription is going to work. They never listen to us about anything. I hate the play on both sims mobile... it limits how I can play. Ugh!

I've honestly enjoyed more games that have dlc than short time subscriptions. Example i don't give a flying ***** about Fall Guys stuff since they release all the time stuff that is there only for small amount of time, but when it comes to example sims 4 packs that i can buy and enjoy even later on, i spend money on those.

This sounds like they're working on something like a mobile app-like online experience. That's the complete opposite of what I want. I want to be able to play offline by myself and be able to mod my games. I'm getting less and less excited with each piece of news we get.
While other players were saying they're tired with The Sims 4 and want to move on, I was like - naah, I don't want The Sims 5, I'll stick to TS4. And now I'm even more confident about it 😂

the only reason they do that is that they see how simmers blindly buy everything they release no matter how buggy, empty and recycled the packs are. i have no doubts that even if they choose this model there'll be sooo many people who are ready to pay for one piece of hair, clothes or furniture. they won't lose anything and even gain so much more from it
As someone who is the afore mentioned buyer regardless of quality-I draw the line at free-to-play online mobile games. I do have some dignity 😂
I think they're overestimating how far they can go. Yeah Sims 4 DLC isnt great even though people still buy it, but atleast we own that content FOREVER, atleast the base game (even if it is boring) is PLAYABLE. Subscription and microtransactions are a whole other ball park.

One thing I've heard worried over is that they mention twice "Apartment customization," but never "Home building." Is this just because they don't have the build tools finished yet and ready to test, just the furnishing tools? Or are they building a game where in the Base game, you don't own houses, just an apartment or Condo in a prebuilt world like Sims 4 is. Apartments in the Base game would be cool, but I don't really play with them in my own game.
That's exactly what I'm worried about... APARTMENTS? I don't want to furnish an apartment... that will be friggin interesting trying to fit a hundred babies in that place, or playing like you're in medieval times. Sigh.

I could be reaching and I have no facts but I think that’s why life by you came out of nowhere so quickly so fully developed. I believe people who worked on sims in the past or have seen from connections where the sims 5 was heading early on wanted to save the essence of the sims and heavy customization through another game and choose to do so in secret. Just the theory I came up with in my head
@@brittneyg7488 It is odd, how we had nothing and then now both LBY and Paralives. I've wondered if a copyright thing expired recently. I'm probably not using the right words 😕 but when you create a story, you have sole ownership of that story for a period of time, then it becomes a public thing and others can use it too. I'm obviously not a lawyer. Your theory is possible too. We know a few former sims team members already joined LBY. I'd bet there are more behind the scenes too.
I honestly don't think most Sims info is "leaked." I think *most* of it is done on purpose to see everyone's reactions.
This is why we love the sims so far, bacuse it is NOT like the other games. It is a safe space that help me distract from anxiety. The idea of online game with subscription and micropayments will give me even more anxiety. If this will be the case I really hope simtubers will push more content of other other simulation games like Paralives instead. I was thinking to start recording some gameplay with the sims 5, but I think it will be the other games instead.
That's why they introduced the kits! They wanted to try, if that might work with these micro transactions! At least those are my thoughts, I can be wrong.
Nah, I pretty much called it back when they introduced Kits as a replacement for Stuff Packs.
Kits were and are a gateway for micro transactions, it proved that people would pay $5.00 (USD) for a handful of lazily molded, poorly rendered, useless, reskined items multiple times in a row. 😅

I completely agree :( the whole reason I love the Sims is because of how it's solo player and (besides the number of packs) largely uncomplicated. I already wasn't super into the idea of project Rene/Sims 5 and now I'm really sure I'll stick to the older games
I had a feeling this was going to be the direction of TS5 when I saw people speculating about the next game being live service, when Kits were introduced that was the final nail in the coffin fornthe theory for me.
It proved that every hunch I had was corect, EA is chasing that Fortnite business model very hard be ause they want the short term profits over longtime gain. Especailly given that TS5 looks as though it will be heavily geared towards attracting kids to the franchise (the art direction and cartoony style being a dead give away) by doing this, they are pushing the older (and paying adults) to the side. Which is upsetting because the adults are the ones who have jobs that pay for the games, not the children they're deperatly trying to market towards.
Anyway, I guess for me the train stops at TS4, Im not interested in TS5 because clearly "its not menat for me." 😢😅

Project Rene will not be the death of the sims, because unfortunately despite even non-sims know how scummy and shitty EA are with microtransacions, people will buy into it, just look at FIFA. Sims is not the only victim who's going to become free-to-play, they're doing the same with a franchise called "Skate", their upcoming game is turning free to play with microtransacions and while the devs assured the microtransacions won't be for necessary items, I don't have much faith in corporate side at all.
Side note but voice chat thing is "Party Voice Chat" so it is just for your own group of friends which most likely means other Party only features, so there's that.
I'm okay with being able to invite friends..in theory, BUT what I don't want is for it to be dependent on other people! Like you can't play the game on your own!

the telling aspect is the sims team refer to the game as "free to enter" not free to play. the sims 4 became free to play as a full game. this sounds like yh you can open it and make a sim. but you need to pay to unlock features that have been in every basegame by default.
Basically what I just said. People keep saying free to play but that's not what EA said. Free to enter sounds a lot more nefarious. It's always worth pointing out that this is the same company that coined the term "surprise mechanics" to promote lootbox gambling to kids.

@@Elwaves2925 exactly. They referred to the Sims 4 as free to play. Even anthem is free to play. To say free to enter has completely different connotations like the mobile games that you download for free and are then hit with a subscription charge after a cas "demo" or livemode "tutorial"
I can see there being an "unlock full game for 39.99" popup after you complete cas

I highly recommend buying the game keys online. You can get most/all of the expansion packs for $15-20
btw other listings have mentioned live service games, which for those who aren't aware, a live service game is a game where you can pay monthly for features, like a subscription or a battle pass. if we go by popular live service games like Fortnite for example, there you can pay for a battle pass that extends throughout a "season", but then there's still an in game store with microtransactions. If that will be the case for The Sims 5, I think I can confidently say that I am not going back to The Sims franchise.
As soon as I saw the advert, it screamed subscription to me (possible also with microtransactions or as an alternative to a sub). I will NEVER buy my games in that format. Let me pay up-front for the content *I* choose, that will give me permanent access to it.
I'd also be very unhappy if it was online only. There may be times when I'm not on online, but still want access to games I own.

I really hope they give an offline/ private option. I feel like having to interact with real people takes away the point of The Sims. Interacting with real people (that I don’t know) would make it feel reaaallly weird for me.

If that's the case then the game is 100% gonna flop, Sims 4 is one of the most modded games I've ever seen, so if the next game can't have mods, there'll be much less people playing it

I got immediate ick when they showed the clay hair BRRRUH🤮and the “town Centre” during the sims summit stream, it was giving Roblox and if it is going to be online like that I’m done with the sims. 100% agree that is could/will kill the sims for a lot of players☹️

They will listen to our suggestions and stuff.. but they won't listen to us about how to make THEIR money. So if they think microtranscations is the best way and quickest way to earn money they will do that. I even believe they lowkey tested that with the kits in the Sims 4.

I want to comment, that we really don't want the Sims to be like IMVU and Second Life, because there are groups on those sites that are more than toxic. I am referring to sex groups, but both sites offer filters to filter out the groups you want to be in or not. I know from experience that Second Life offers monthly payments as well as microtransactions. With the monthly fee, you are buying server space. You get a lot, a small about of Second Life money to spend, plus you can customize your lot or even run a business (to earn Second Life money).
Try google what minimizing player chum actually means if you were concerned about free to play part. If its anything to go by its going to be deeply predator with the microtransactions.

I agree with everything you said in this video, and what makes it especially scary is all these items and battlepasses (sim passes) that they're going fomo us into buying will eventually disappear along with all of the money we spent on it because of its inevitable online only connection and that will be permanently switched off one day.
It's sad to see as a long time fan since the very beginning, but this truly looks like the end of the franchise, at least for me and probably most other older Sims fans.
I don't even play TS4 anymore because it feels like it's constantly trying to disappoint me and actively remind me of how much better the previous entries were, so I usually just play those instead. TS4 music is one of the few genuinely good things that I love about the game but that alone isn't enough to make me want to play it.
Life By You is looking to be my TS4 and no, that's not a typo.
If this goes south I'm going back to my Sims 3 because simpler times and super nostalgic. Not to mention in a way it is still fun to play.

Something I've thought of is just how the love and passion the company has for The Sims just seems to have declined so bad. Compare Sims 1,2 and 3 to the Sims 4 for example...look at Sims 5 that's in the works. Where's all the love and passion that went into the earlier sims games gone? Now it's all just money and greed.
I actually equate micro transactions to gambling. I’m a grown adult and a few years ago started to try mobile games. Before I knew it I was starting to pay a few dollars here and there to try to progress in my games. I realised I was getting addicted and literally was paying good money for something that isn’t even real. Luckily I woke up and deleted every game off my phone.
My takeaway - micro transactions are designed to hook people on a game and siphon away money. It’s morally questionable if not outright evil and I think it should actually be against the law!
What about modifying the game with mods? I see that not being possible for the sims 5 if it’s online? Modding the sims will probably be dead too.
nah theyll stick to the sims 4,3,2.. ive had new mods for both sims 2 and 3 that are less than 6 months old. ontop of that, without mods many simmers wont play so the modders will still have their players
I bought the Sims 4 when it first came out with the extra dlc. That costed me around $60…. I’m still mad it’s free now and they haven’t really improved much…. Like…. I spent my hard earned money on this franchise time and time again- but they keep failing me
They won't allow just anyone to test their beta even though they will get the best feedback that way. What they will do instead is only have exclusive paid beta testers so that they only have the fanboys "testing" their game so they get as little real constructive criticism as possible.
They need to make a Sims with the open world and color wheel of 3 and the personality and detail of 2. They'd outsell everything else so good.

Makes me feel even better about deciding when kits were released I wasn't getting Sims 5. Free to play games have become horrible & I don't play The Sims to play with other people. I play the Sims b/c I don't want to play with other ppl.
If they go the microtransaction route, it will give Paralives and Life By You a very large share of the market. At this point a lot of simmers have bailed on Sims 4 and went back to Sims 3, 2 and even 1.
What I know from game testing, at least back when I used to do a lot of that, they usually just want to know what works and what doesn't, but the vision they have is not part of that. So yeah, they want to listen to "us" but in a way that helps them realize ***their*** vision
Once they announced it was going to be playable with mobile I knew EA was sabotaging this game like they did with sims 4 but worse. And this possibility of micro transactions seals the deal. Even if this wasn’t the case the chance of mods and custom content would be unlikely with the mobile aspect since it would be the same game you’re playing instead of like how it’s currently sims 4 and free play on mobile for example. I had planned on possibly playing sims 5 and paralives so this is very disappointing.

Based on the info we received so far, I won't be playing sims 5. I'm not into multiplayer, being always online, subscription service or compatibility with mobile.

Sims 2 video game had a multiplayer option. Just because it has that option it doesn’t mean they’ll take away the option to play by yourself. Animal crossing is an example that has an optional subscription service. You only need it if you play with others online but, again its only option and you don’t need to get that subscription if you don’t use it. Everything else you mentioned hasn’t even been confirmed or denied yet. If I were you I wait for everything to be confirmed before making a decision
It's not going to die, there's far too many folks out there that will still buy into whatever Renee ends up being. They are going to turn away a lot of long term simmers and people who are aware of the state of modern gaming. Hopefully a LOT as they don't deserve us.

I'm absolutely sticking with TS4. I've put too much money and time into making this game playable for me to move on to TS4 2.0. Free to play and then maybe a subscription service or 4000 dlcs. Screw thatttt

Yeah… I kind of saw this coming. I have a feeling they going to fully rebrand before launch and it wouldn’t surprise me if they didn’t even call this “The Sims 5” since it’s going to be such an epic departure from the franchise.
I don’t *love* the kit model, but I also think the value is ok enough and I do buy them. However, I am not paying for items a la carte and it sure seems like the direction they want to go. I also play Disney Dreamlight Valley and their store is INSANELY expensive for what you get. It’s like the equivalent to $5 for a HOUSE. It’s insane. At least with DDV, there is a TON of items you can unlock and collect without dropping extra money. TS4 base game feels so bare bones and I can only imagine what they’re (not) going to include in the next installment of the franchise.

They're already heading that way with TS4, with them adding all these cosmetic upgrades, such as medical patches, hearing aides, scars, binsers etc.

Did the job advert say "Free to PLAY" or "Free to ENTER" as the second one sounds worse. Looking forward to Paralives especially if they tweek the para looks a bit.
