@@Alysaah Yeah good question. Maybe because we still have hope that perhaps this next new pack will make the game fun, but it will never. I surely won't buy this pack for full price nor if there is a 30% discount. When EA will give it away with 50% lower then I am going to MAYBE buy this... this thing. This expensive game pack to be exact.
To add to the metaphor, they didn't even paint it the color you wanted the banana to be either! They painted a red apple green when you wanted a banana painted magenta idk. All I know is if the horse has a horn but isn't magical, it's not a unicorn and I'm not interested.

I don't like how both farm packs have very specific new skills either. Why was cross stitching picked for CL and why is wine making picked for HR? A lot of these things are regional and are not the first things to come to mind.

Know what would have been cool? If they did something like the horse Barbie movie, put the unicorns in a secret location (kinda like realm of magic?) like behind a water fall you can reach on a trail while riding a horse. When you get to the location you’ll see a bunch of free roaming unicorns who you could train. Once you train the unicorn of your choice you could ride it back to your house and it would be added to your household or something. It wouldn’t be something totally open like the regular horses are but I think that would be fine because I feel like unicorns are more like mystical animal.
That's a great idea. We do already know there's a hidden cave in the world. So maybe? Like I really can't imagine you can't get a colorful horse if we could also get gold and dark chickens, and a rainbow cow and lama in Cottage Living.

thats actually how unicorns worked in past sims games they were hidden but there was a 30-40% chance of you encountering them(depending on which sims game it was) and only during night/evening and that made the unicorns even more special and exciting to see
Thats would be great but EA will never put in this much work into a pack clearly, the whole pack is about horses but we dont even have carriages to pull kids around or something more
They could have also had the option to have wings for the horses e.g. maybe you could earn them from the compitition or maybe its like a 20% breeding thing, and then you could fly wit the horse and teach it to fly idk i just think it would be a cool add-on

Throughout all of the discourse during growing together, that was my nonstop thought. Ignoring all other ways that EA makes money, The Sims 4 game has earned over $1B in sales, earns more than $457 Million annually, I don’t care what hypothetical reason exsists for them not delivering promises they have the means but they choose not to do it. Just remember when we’re frustrated at the direction that they’ve brought TS4 into, they did it 100% no questions asked on purpose. Everything left out of a expansion pack, every gameplay detail that was in an older game that shouldve been refined for their new game, all of it they have the resource to achieve and yet they willingly choose to not give the consumer what they are asking for. The Sims franchise has earned $5 Billion dollars as of 2019, if they wanted to they would ❤.
This is a problem all throughout EA's games development. They do less than the bare minimum. FIFA's online mode makes 1.6bi in NET PROFITs annually, and the game is a bug infested mess worse than the Sims is right now and everything in that game, mechanics wise, is shallow and badly implemented, easily the worst sports game I've played in my life. You would think that with that much money they could hire the best dev team money can buy to develop a good product, right? But no, there is nothing in the world that will convince me that a single soul worked on the code of FIFA 23, I would be ashamed to have that thing on my resume if I were a developer. The Sims team is pretty much just following the company'culture, they spend more in marketing than actually game development.
Couldn't have said it better. I moved over to Sims 3 when there was a giant sale on steam some time ago (literally got the base game and all DLC for 69 freakin dollars, would you believe that?!) And I adore it. You can seriously become emersed in the older games while in Sims 4 you're wondering when your game is gonna crash again, not to mention the fact that so many Sims 4 dlc would be considered one pack in Sims 3 (best example, Sims 4 cats and dogs, my first pet scam stuff, cottage living, and freakin horse ranch are literally all in Sims 3 pets and Sims 3 pets literally has reptiles, birds etc as pets.). Wish there were more real UA-camrs like Satch. Can't believe people are still hyping these cash grabby packs.
People still pay for their broken, half-assed product... so why would they try any harder? I expressed concerns in a modding discord, and people were just like YEAH WHATEVER HORSES YAY WOOHOO. Yeah, okay, horses. What about how tiny all the worlds are? It takes about 4 seconds to walk from my house to a sim neighbor's house, where I then load in. Why ride a horse ever, if you're not in the new world? Won't that get old? TS3 had huge, open worlds - so cars and horses made sense. You needed some form of locomotion! TS4 was designed with the exact opposite notion in mind - no travel time at all! And then people wanted to travel, but there's no point in cars or horses in a world with nowhere to go. So it's re-hashed items, and horses will only be fun in one world, which will get old after a play-through.
I used to be one of the ones saying this. Along with many other simmers. The thing is, we kept being told to stop being negative or just don't play the game. A lot of us either stopped talking as much or, like me, they just stopped playing. And things got worse. A lot of simmers just want everyone to be positive about everything and love it and never have a bad thing to say, but doing that is allowing Sims 4 to get worse and worse.

I think EA aren't giving us unicorns because they want to release in future an expansion pack called something like "fairytale" in which they will add unicorns and may be fairy wings in CAS

I was just thinking about that! I’ve heard so many people say they want fairies in the Sims. I could totally see them coming out with fairies and unicorns in a pack together. Since they’ve announced the medieval build pack won the poll, it might be cool if they tied that all together in a fantastical, ren faire pack. But I doubt that happens. That’d make too much sense!
I am going to be so mad if they do that. It would mean that for the full fantasy experience you would need to buy island living for mermaids, magic realm thingy for spell-casters, vampires and werwolves and probs horse ranch because unicorns will need that as a base.
honestly, fair enough. not everyone wants non-realistic gameplay like that. I'd be on board with a well done, well rounded pack about mythical creatures like fairies/unicorns etc. (just that we know it won't be well rounded)

I hope that Life By You and Paralives shape up to be viable competition for the Sims. I honestly think that competition would be the only thing that stops EA from being like this.
seems like they will be for each other but the sims is still going to have an overall hold on the genre. it's nothing either dev team could change, it's just the longevity of the franchise.
even if they become viable competitors, ea will just find a way to buy the games out and take control of development
@@milkpastasoup8960 life by you is being made by a European company that is well known and well loved. It is unlikely they will care to sell to EA when they are already so successful as a company themselves and this will be one of their most popular games, Rod Humble who is working on Life by You also holds a grudge a against EA for what they did so sims. paralives could get bought out but it is also unlikely as the creators hate EA and have said that they would never sell to them specifically, they are also located in Canada. I don't know a whole lot of games that were bought by EA that weren't also US American like EA is.
Unfortunately no 😂, EA did not learn their lesson clearly when they lost their monopoly over city building game, SIM City died the moment Paradox released City Skylines, the same people who are now making Life By You, if sims is going to survive it’s going to be entirely due to the newer generation of sims players that already are accustomed to micro transactions and think it’s ok and normal, sim players that never played sims 1, 2, or even 3 and therefore don’t know any better and think paying over 1000$ for a game is totally ok. That’s probably why EA caters so much towards younger simmers and focusing so much on getting new players rather than focusing on creating a good game. They want to have sims 5 be riddled with micro transactions but they know good and well, millenials, OG simmers, those of us who grew up on sims 2 and even 3, won’t ever buy into that bullshit 😂 never accept it. They mildly tried it with Sims 3 and their store content, and although the stuff, worlds, was cool , it definitely didn’t make bank, it was simply extra stuff you could get if you wanted. Older gamers, HATE micro transactions, and majority of us don’t get sucked into that scheme 😂 younger kids who didn’t grow up during or after the golden age of gaming, they don’t know any better, they think it’s normal. So yeah, sims will either go two directions, FAIL miserably and loose their monopoly entirely just like sim city, or they will continue thanks to younger newer gamers who have been growing up on Fortnite and so don’t know any better.

Im upset that with all these expansions, there should have been new jobs, traits, aspirations and building upon old games. The base game update should go along side a old pack update that makes the packs work more seamlessly together. Im so upset that they didn't go back and add milestones to all the packs. It makes new packs feel shallow
Yes! I don't get why they don't give us legit careers anymore. The last fulltime careers we got were for Snowy Escape and Dreamhome Decorator, I think. And Dreamhome Decorator is so glitchy and annoying.
I love the base game career system, where you unlock stuff along the way. I don't need to go to work with my sims and I want more options. We don't have Nurses, Elementary school teachers or fulltime careers in retail or construction. There are already tons of mods for more careers, I just wish it would be implemented into the game.
Honestly, EA reminds me of that one parent that you never see that says they’ll come over to take you to the park once a week and you get all excited just for them to not show up for literally months.

The spa day pack was 100% a test to see if a "refresh" of an old pack could create new sales on it

My biggest ever gripe about Sims4 will always be how they gave us an amazing color system in 3, and screwed us over in 4 with it.
I get the no color wheel cause it apparently caused lag and frame rate issues. But they could’ve at least let us change the bed frame and blanket individually 💀

from my experience (having worked in development for over a decade) the issues with EA are on a management level, not devs. Someone is doing making piss poor decisions on which way to go, how far etc. Batuu is proof of that.

The Batuu thing was a requirement of their contract, however. They were required to make something with a Disney license (or something to that effect I dont quite remember anymore) and Batuu is what they went with.

They know they can get away with it due to it being something simmers been wanting forever (I feel it started sinces snowy escape or cottage living where the expansion has been rapidly decreasing the amount of gameplay is in the pack but it doesn’t matter since it’s what simmers want). I wouldn’t be shocked if Horse Ranch had the least amount of gameplay but it was still one of the highest sellers for the sims 4 series

The occults are probably the only thing they’ve done right (beside some of the small expansion pack ones like aliens) I’m just waiting for fairies and I’m done myself lol
Fear not. Modders have given us so many occults they'll take that horn, make it look better and give it some badass features as real unicorns roaming the wild.

I hear what you are saying, but it should be the company making the game giving us this, seriously if it wasnt for the modders and CC creators the sims 4 wouldve been done since the start.
I think part of the problem is that they already have a country/western themed package (strangerville), a farm themed package (cottage living), nifty knitting, paranormal and laundry day that have sort of a homemade, boho-ish feel, the country kitchen kit that has… well… a country look, the werewolves pack that has a very well used and old look, and outdoor retreat and the little campers kit that have a very outdoorsy look, as well as a view garden and greenhouse oriented packs. All of this to say that almost every single angle they could have taken on the whole country/ranch/farm lifestyle is already done to some extent and that makes it very hard to find something new and original (not impossible, but hard). I personally think that the easiest thing they could have avoided this was to pick another theme for the pack, but that ship sailed a long time ago. Instead they could have focused more on equestrian gear and fashion, and maybe explored different decades. Also, changing the world to something more unique might have helped with the pack feeling more unique, and if the world wasn’t just Strangerville 2.0 it might have been easier to find more unique clothing, because the clothing would have to fit different worlds.
Additionally, the pack is kind of all over the place. The pack's called HORSE Ranch, yet focused more on the cowboy aesthetics for CAS and they made the world feel like it takes place in a desert, yet add in wine making.
Additionally, the sheep and goats seem to be stuck as lambs and kids despite all other animals in the game either being able to grow up or always as an adult. Why did they do this? We could have had goat milk and sheep wool.

@@axolirvin971 Pygmy goats are never quite as small as that and the lambs are way too tiny to bull full size sheep.

Why can't The Sims just make a decent men's haircut? They refuse to make new short haircuts. Also I lol'd as soon as I saw the cow and llama metal wall decor. Purely for decoration if you don't have Cottage Living!
Also, receding hairlines. There's almost no option to make a 30something male sim with a receding hairline, even CC wise.
The hair is really irritating to me, for a lot of reasons. 1) where is the horsegirl hair. TS4 doesn’t have many long loose hairstyles at all, for women OR for men. 2) if they’re dedicated to this American southwest vibe for this pack they really should have worked with indigenous artists to make the cas if not the BB too. These assets are so bland and uninspired and it’s so simple to pay a few outside artists to do some mock-up sketches. 3) along with that I think there should have been more braided hairstyles. I don’t think we have a single pigtail braid style and I loved using those in ts3. And 4) GOD is the copied hairstyles just SO insulting. That’s LITERALLY the GT hair
I completely agree! No inspiration whatsoever to tie in with the riding theme, I have a horse, and my hair is always down my back long&wavy or in a big ponytail, gorgeous plaits. Same with all my friends, the hair and clothes are such a disappointment. Hair has always been such a disappointment for sims 4, I’ve been waiting for wavy hairstyles since it came out, not even one long hairstyle in the whole game. The mermaid style hair is definitely medium ish length. Where is the beautiful horse girl hair??

Agree! Would have been cool to work with indigenous fashion designers as well as the more ‘cowboy rancher’ fashion and horse girl show jumpers. Like just work with real world interior and fashion designers and people that are actually rooted in that life. There’s always a massive difference when they work with hairstylists with the cas.
I so agree about structural problems at Maxis. It really does seem like bad resourcing and piss poor project management. I feel sorry for the devs at the bottom that are probably overworked and underpaid, but not EA senior management who continue to release shitty products and wonder why people are resorting to piracy lol

Let's not forget that sims 3 expansions included a new occult, a new death and a new woohoo location in every new expansion. In the sims 4 they spread the packs we know and love way too thin and try to fill the blanks with cutesy boots like you say, rather than look back at what they did previously and just make it better.
Yess! They were huge packs for less money and were always worth it. There was always a lot new gameplay stuff. It made huge differences

It would be so cool if unicorns spawned in Sylvian glade if you have the pack. Like it would be such a cool place for them and then you’d have to go to that special hidden world. I really want the hidden worlds to have more secrets. I also feel like unicorns would go super well in sylvian glade because I have always wanted to find something magical there. It just has such magic vibes. That way the people who don’t like occults would also not have to look at the unicorns if they don’t want to.
They could have done so much with the CAS, especially with the big trend of western fashion irl right now. It’s just disappointing that they’re clearly taking pre-existing options, slightly tweaking them, and handing them out as if they’re brand new.
It’s like if I gifted a shirt to a friend for Christmas, they rolled up the sleeves and removed the Santa patch from it, and gifted it back to me two months later for my birthday.
I love that metaphor but I'd tweak it because we never even get the whole shirt.
It's like if you made your friend the Santa shirt, then removed the Santa patch, gave them the shirt for Christmas and part of the Santa patch on a pair of socks for their birthday a few months later, after they'd already made it clear they wanted a book for their birthday and were disappointed in getting a shirt that clearly had parts missing for Christmas.
Watch this become one of the best selling packs, the community may complain, but they will never stop eating everything EA feeds them
EA is a soulless corporation - the devs can't help the short leash they're on. But if consumers eat the polished turd they're server, why would the company pay the devs to make anything but another polished turd? What's the incentive, when people will still scramble to buy the absolute shit product they make? xD

I don't understand why they would think that reusing the hair styles would fly, there are so many hairstyles we don't have in the sims, any chance to add a new hairstyle they need to take it

Unicorns in sims 3 were the best, it was so much fun trying to find them and quickly try to become friends before the night was up and they disappeared 😂
This is why I'm so looking forward to new simulation games coming out. EA has been skating by on doing the bare minimum for so long, and people still buy their packs coz there are no other options out there. Once the Sims 4 has some real competition they're going to have to up their game. Or they risk becoming irrelevant. Maybe this is why they've been releasing sooo much stuff lately, coz they know the gravy train isn't gonna last that much longer, so they're milking it for all they can.

He has videos discussing mechanics and what is public about both of them on this channel. There are more I'm sure and I can't wait for the day that EA catches the heat from the competition

the cas items are sooo disappointing because its like theyre too afraid to go in a stylistic direction confidently. everything is so mid and its so similar to the existing game content, we already have lots of vaguely farm-y overalls and plaid button up shirts. Where the HECK is the native american style items they made us think were coming? I want things that are bold and different, not things that literally look base game or like they could be from another pack like strangerville or cottage living 😭
i think this is my issue with a lot of the cas items in recent packs, it feels like ea is too scared to get more interesting and bold with it and end up just giving us generic jackets all the time 😭 more styles of clothes that aren't just generic american style. i think the cas is quickly becoming the worst part of the game honestly

There are at least 5 B&B items that are almost literal copies of items from the base game (one of the lamps, one of the beds and others). I think the key word is inspired. Look at the CAS and BB from Growing Together or High School. Nothing looked like anything we already had. I'm starting to think it was supposed to be a GP, but they decided to fatten it up to an EP.
I feel like EA has been so good with Cas lately, giving us more trendy, oversized, new clothing but this is reeking of Base game/ early pack CAS
The leopard horse ankle things *do* give me an emotional response, but in reality I never use the animal clothes and wouldn’t purchase this for $39.99 in a billion years lol

I usually get Sims packs, IF I buy them, from instant gaming which sells everything a lot cheaper, and is still legitimate, since I’m absolutely not willing to spend 40 bucks. I’ve bought a few packs from it before and all work perfectly fine. And, for example (I just checked) High school years is on a -59% discount currently and even Horse Ranch is a -27% discount as of right now and will definitely go lower in the future. So, maybe that’s something for you guys too :p

EA is doing the bare minimum because they know that Modders will swoop in and save the day.
Modders saved werewolves "replacement heads, tails, feet replacement, werewolf walk override, etc" lets see how they will fix this pack.
The short unicorn horn looks like it's for a foal judging by the CAS image, while the long one is for adults.
Also those "slacks" at 2:25 are actually Chaps which is riding gear, in this case, stylized for Western Riding. They help the rider have a better grip on the horse.
I do find the lack of anything for English riding weird though...
Based on what they gave us in Sims 3 for pets and what they have given us in Sims 4 for pets, over several packs even, wonder when we will get a pack with different pet birds, with costumes of course
Not sure if any Native American culture, clothing, art, etc exists in the Sims 4 world. It would actually be great to see more references to it or to learn more about the culture through play. Horse Ranch seems like a pretty appropriate place to feature it. Perhaps they thought about it, and decided against it.
There will be clothes, house items and food inspired by Native American culture, according to the Sims blog.

Maybe, but they also worked with a Native American non-profit group that helped them be "sensitive" about including them, which means ruling out stereotypes etc, which is what many people expect of "Native American" content. A John Wayne spaghetti western is what people expect and that is mostly stereotypes. We also have to remember that there are hundreds of Native American tribes and they are not all the same, so they cannot cover all of them. This basically means that they can't include anything that someone (NA or not) might interpret as offensive, diluting the (genuine) "nativeness" of the content. I am in no way defending EA. After not being able to play for over 3 months after I was kicked (unwillingly) off of Origin and onto thier broken crAPP, I have no intention of giving any more money to EA, and I will never deal with computer games on subscription, so EA won't be getting money from me in the future either....

Something I found pretty interesting. I'm remaking the worlds in my game to create my own save file, and in the run down neighborhood of the Get Famous expansion, I grabbed one of the Live Edit houses to replicate it.
As I was building I noticed that those shells have assets from other expansions, so even in specific packs their live edit items are borrowing from other packs. The shell I picked was the blue house with front and back porch and it had the EXACT door and windows from Seasons as well as some other packs.
This pack has really brought my attention to that the beginning of the end was them calling Cats and Dogs an expansion.

Someone once pointed out to me that Sims 4 DLC can never have all their ducks in a row. Here, I imagine that they spent so long on new meshes and animations for horses that they didn't focus on BB/CAS/gameplay. In packs where gameplay took center stage (think Vampires, Get Famous, and Realm of Magic), the worlds are tragic. In packs where BB was the primary focus, the gameplay suffered (think of the interior designer pack that I forget the name of because I never use it apart from the BB-) and I think you get the idea. These guys can very rarely get all their seeds in a row and their focus sorted out. I think this is going to be another one of those cases - they focused so much on the animations and new animals that everything else suffered (it happened with Cats and Dogs, I wouldn't be surprised if it happened here too)

I agree with your sentiment around 10:28 - it is very strange not to go for a unicorn. We have werewolves, vampires, merpeople so unicorns fit in quite easily. Maybe not necessarily with something named "Horse Ranch," but it is not difficult to make the mental jump even as a secret unlock. And yeah, something may be not quite right with direction/leadership. I too genuinely hope they can figure things out.
Horse lover here! My initial reaction was extreme excitement because HORSES!! But the more I do look into it the more disappointing I start to find it because it’s what EA does best :) they take a really cool idea then find a way to jeopardise it :)

The problem is this is an expansion pack. I think in order to justify it, they put in left overs from other packs and refreshed some other items. I really do think there is a minimum # they had to meet. They could have been creative and pulled from cowboy culture from Canada to Argentina. But no.

I think it’s difficult for the team also, from working in a company myself, even though it’s a restaurant, the company have ideas (completely different to ours also, even thought they asked us what we think and it was a pointless exercise) that when we have to put them into practice, it is almost impossible and it always feels like these people sitting in their chairs around a table actually have no idea how it works so I wonder if it could be a similar thing 👀🤷🏼♀️
So, I work for a big games company (not EA, though I do have friends who work there). It was interesting to hear you talking about the potential behind the scenes problems at EA. My only thought that I have to add is that completely axing a game's direction a year before its planned launch is an absolutely criminal thing for leadership to do to their dev team. Karma dictates that a studio deserves to go under and the shareholders to lose all their money for pulling that kind of stunt.
Ideally, a team should already be well into the production of the first DLC at the time of the base game's launching. So the Sims 4 team has been critically behind since day 1 and they probably already knew that they'll never be able to catch up and produce the amount of content they did for The Sims 3. In my eyes, the ones to be angry at are the shareholders who got cold feet and the team leadership who folded instead of having confidence in their specific product. Having said that, your bottom line about what consumers should concern themselves with was very well put, and I'll be remembering that for next time I'm grumpy at "The Gamers" hahaha
ETA: Although, I will add that making a game takes a lot more than making dental floss! No one is telling lawyers or engineers their work is on par with a factory machine that mass produces one product. Games are weird in that anyone can get a copy, but they aren't actually mass produced products. A game is one bespoke creation that's taken any number of highly skilled people years to produce. Yeah there's the business side and that's often yucky, but it is also the mother of all creative industries that includes literally all others in its process. So please not the dental floss 😂

as a horse person- there isnt enough horse tack (the horse clothes stuff) the 2 saddles I've seen look just like the ones from sims 3- I wnt more than 2-3 tack items in an entire pack when the dogs get 10 costumes I never use
I do agree with it being a game pack than an expansion but think that you will be able to create a ranch outside the world because it’s got jumps and things for the horses training. I am really excited for this to come out cus I love horses and it world be such an amazing experience to show my love fir horses in a game that I really enjoy! I do wish we could have original CAS things tho because it just makes it feel like your sticking with just 1 pack not multiple if your going for a Horse gameplay.
I agree. The way that EA could fix the obvious disappointment is to make this a game pack. I think That would be a good solution to the dissatisfaction.
It would have made a lot of sense in this pack to bring back the idea of a hidden lot that had the unicorn. They obviously have the tools and resources to do so. If they had added that, a mechanical bull, and made a few more original cas items this could have been a solid pack.
I also think they really need to update the number of sims you can have in your household. Or pets/horses shouldn’t count towards the 8 sim limit.

About the mechanical bull, a modder made a working one for Sims 4, I've had it sitting in my mods folder as I couldn't find a suitable neighborhood to put a Country Western Dance Club and I couldn't find a way to make them do country western dancing, so the Horse Ranch pack will come in useful for that

I am doing a decades challenge and realized today maybe this would be a nice pack to have for the horses and such, so I actually went and looked thinking it was a game pack or less. I had no clue it was an expansion pack! I was surprised to see the $39.99 price tag. And I had noticed the hairstyles and clothing looked just a bit too familiar. Can’t believe it.

In my experience, major companies who put an insane amount of effort into projecting a “let’s take a silly one! 😝” vibe into all of their marketing (AND their strictly regimented staff members social media) are often the ones with the most tumultuous offices.
I don't get why they refuse to do Game Packs anymore. I love Werewolves, Vampires, Strangerville, Jungle Adventure...all game packs! Horse Ranch feels like it belongs in that group, with some small added gameplay and some new assets and maybe a world. But they wanna either be lazy or scam us or both
See what their next gamepack would be: My First Unicorn Game Pack (comes with nothing else but some cas and build-buy items and an addition to horses to have horns and 3-4 powers), and of course it would need the Horse Ranch Expansion Pack to work

The only thing I can think to compare it to is maybe GTA Online? They could stop all development and still rake in the cash, but all they have to do is look like they're releasing new stuff and they'll get even more. I still don't know why they don't contract with cc creators for the BB & CAS stuff. These are players who clearly know what other players want and make things so much nicer than the game designers EA hires.
