- I wanted to see just what I could buy in Albania for €10. Obviously, prices will vary a bit depending on where in the country you are so the prices here in Pogradec will not necessarily be the exact same as the prices in Tirana or Durres, but they will be similar.
This may make it seem like it would be very easy to live here, because things are so cheap, but many Albanians have a monthly income of only €150-€200 (or less) meaning that even with the prices that seem cheap to many countries, life can still be very difficult.

I get paid €8 per day which makes €10 a lot of money and this goes for most of Albanias. Our country is pretty expensive to us! Great video by the way. Be careful at Big Market they sell expired food o lot of times.

There was never any way a single currency with a centralised mechanism for inflation control through quantitative easing was going to work for 19 disparate economies.

After Greece adopted the euro in 2001, it was able to borrow at much lower interest rates despite its deteriorating competitiveness and public finances.
In the decade before the crisis, Greece was able to use this cheap funding to finance a deficit which grew to unsustainable levels.
Conditions in the euro area during this period facilitated such lending, despite the build-up of the unsustainable deficit. This meant that Greece could delay difficult structural reforms that had become necessary and may have been unavoidable if cheap funding had not been available during the 2000s.
While government spending and borrowing increased, tax revenues weakened due to poor tax administration.
At the same time, wages rising much faster than productivity growth undermined Greece’s competitiveness, while low productivity and existing and significant structural problems also contributed to the increasing economic difficulties.
As a result, Greece’s economy contracted and unemployment began to climb to alarming levels.
In 2009, the Greek government revealed that previous governments had been misreporting government budget data. Much higher-than-expected deficits eroded investor confidence, causing the yields on Greek sovereign bonds (which correspond to the cost of borrowing money) to rise to unsustainable levels.
The situation worsened to the point where the country was no longer able to refinance its borrowing, and it was forced to ask for help from its European partners and the IMF.

Yeah stuff is pretty cheap over here at Albania, the problem is the salary is pretty broken and we have advanced quite late into the modern era. Also Albania is quite beautiful as a country.

Compared to 2016 in Euro's Albania became a bit more expensive in 2018 due to the conversion rate (from 135 to 125 Leks/Euro) while the prices in Leks were more or less the same. A regular Korça beer (0,5L) was around 150 leks everywhere (Vlorë, Sarandë, Shkodër, Korçë, Pogradec, the cities we were in 2016 and 2018), which means that a beer rose from €1,11 to €1,20 in two years time.
the wages here in Albania are so low but my mom gets 500 euros per month and my dad 800 euros per month

A tourist will say Albania is cheap because the Albanian Lek is very low currency compared to Euro or USD. It's really cheap for the other people outside Albania but it's definitely expensive for us. Average salary of an Albanian is up to 200€ monthly. Half of the money goes to paying electricity and water bills, whose prices are absolutely sky high, 50€-60€ is only the electricity bill, let's not talk about the food also.

Once my family and me were in Albania to visit someone from my family. When we got there we saw and store where you could buy some T-Shirts for kids and because i have a little brother who is about 2 years old my mother decide to go there and buy something for him. We entered the store and saw some really nice looking clothes. When we went to get it and ask for the price we saw an even better looking sweatshirt we decided to buy that one but when got to the cashier he didnt let us return the oder T-Shirt and we had to buy both of them because my Mom is such a good person. So i got a really good first impression of Albania.

in august i got 138lek per euro probably depends on area and season, did you google the rate or did you actually went to an exchange store? banks have the worst exchange rates keep in mind, exchange stores are usually located next to bus station
banks work on a 7% profit and exchange stores on a 0,8%. number 1 rule for travellers in albania is not exchange currency in banks

Well it might seem like food is cheap here in Albania, compared to other European countries. But keep in mind that the avarage monthly salary here is around 250€. And with that we should buy food, pay taxes and survive , you know what i mean... it's not that easy for an average family.🤷♀️

I’d like to add something here dear Turist, I really appreciate the fact that you showing in this video how cheap are groceries and coffe, and some other items sure.
This attracts more tourists, and Albania isn’t a bad country at all, there’s a lot of places ppl would be amassed to see.
But the maximum wage for an Albanian is around 250 thousand lek, wich is around 250 $ a month, in your country you make 10 times more, you make 2500$ a month.
I don’t see how albania would be so cheap for albanian ppl, not to mention that the fuel is more expensive than almost anywhere in the world.
Every tourist is welcome and they can deal with the prices here, but I don’t see how albanian ppl gonna deal with it.
Maximum albania wage here it’s barely to survive.
