- How much do I spend in a month living in Albania? I've made videos before about how much things cost here, but this time I decided to make it more personal. This is how much this month cost me in my living expenses.

Your a legend, thank you for promoting our country, big up for you...
thanks for watching!!
Chill video dude. Nice breakdown and cool raw and real insight 💯
Thanks man! Appreciate it
James learning the language like a native can read it and understand it, as always delivering great content. 👍
working on it 😎
Nice James! Love Albania! 🇺🇸❤🇦🇱 thank you for sharing your life and your camping adventures! Stay safe! 😊🙏
I see James, I click Like
I find this so interesting! I grew up for 15 years in Korca, so the expenses are pretty close I think. Keep it up with the videos - would love more content in Korca :) I miss it a lot!
$500 / month in Pogradec, you are living a luxurious life lol 😂
living alone and the van will drive those prices up...
@@JamesLeithart especially the Van only because of fuel but it does make a nice camp out vehicle etc.
With 500 bucks in tirana you will be starving. ))))))))
@@armandpelivani3227 Really? We have 7 kids and hope to live rich in Albania. We make about $300 bucks a month.
@@JamesLeithart To be honest, that's because you are living in Pogradec. It is probably one of the cheapest place to live in Albania. If you lived in Tirana, rent alone would have probably set you back $300 for a decent-ish place (you can find places for cheaper, but it's not going to be in a nice location). And if you want a really really nice place to live in, prices will go way up.
The other living expenses are somewhat similar (gas for example is about the same everywhere), but fruit and vegetables will be a little more expensive (depending on where you buy them, 'premium' quality will obviously cost more). Social life is also going to take a little bit more out of your pocket since bars for example are generally more expensive in Tirana.
I would say as a person living alone in Tirana, you need about $1000 per month to cover your expenses and have a bit left over for fun. However, if you live together with a bunch of friends / family and share the expenses, you can get by with less.
Hi James, always great and interesting to watch your videos! I have been to Albania four times on holiday. First time I just went alone on charter to Sarandë in 2016 and enjoyed it a lot. Met some people from Åland there, we are still friends and have met several times. Later on I have made Albanian friends too. I feel it's like my second home country, I mean it has stolen my heart. Were there in 2016/17/18/19. Couldn't go in 2020 due to C19. I hope to stay there ca 5 months a year in a few years time, when I retire. I'm old, don't know where the years went ;). Until then I hope to visit and see more places. I have been to Tirana, Sarandë, Ksamil, Delvine, Borsh, Qeparo, Qeparo Old Village. And to Himarë, my favourite place. Do you like Ohrid lake? Is the water nice? You don't miss the ocean? I hope to visit Nivica, Berat, Durres, Korca, Theth. ++ Have watched movies from Durres, the city looked nicer than I thought. I do like Tirana too, especially Blloku. Too many cars, though. If you didn't have the van, how much do you think you would have spent totally every month? How much do you think a one bed room apt in Pogradec would cost? Ca 50 m2, with a terrace or balcony, good standard. And finally do you eat out a lot? I would have! Good luck and Best regards from Ståle in Oslo.
Exactly the type of video I was looking for; thanks mate.
Great video James. I keep telling my husband that we can live a luxurious life with our American pensions if we decide to retire in Albania. One day :)
it probably depends on the city you choose to live it!
there is already this new law, where foreign pensioners with income of 1 mil ALL yearly, meaning smth like 810 usd monthly per person, can come and live under 1 year residency in Albania, renewable every year up to 5 years when you can get even citizenship if you want, or just keep renewing the residency permit. you just need to channel this income through albanian banks
@@Nirvana1191 If you're an American, you can already go live in Albania and have a one year residency exactly as you described. Albania is one of two countries in the world (Georgia being the other) that extends this privilege to American citizens.
For people to understand, I believe the difference between Pogradec and Tirana, is that you can live with the same 500 USD per month, bot only if you would be a couple, meaning that the budget for 2 in Tirana could be around 850-1000 USD, counting that you might need a little bit more on fun, counting your age(restaurants, cinema this kind of things).
Great video. I just moved to Albania a couple months ago, so I found this video very informative. Thanks!
Love your house shoes James!!! Oh, the video is good too:)
Wow love the video❤🔥keep it up💪💪
Very good video sad it doesn’t have more views
Nice job breaking it down! Haven't heard of that city but will be looking into it!
Not very known, but it seems to be a hidden gem.
Thank you for the information
Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Thx, good video.
Good job James thank you for choosing Albania Peace out from USA
Thanks for this video... Coz my albanian fiancé planning to lived there in albania rather than living here in the philippines, so this video is very helpful for me, i actually watched some vlogs about albania and now i will surely suscribed⬇️👍 thanks😇
glad it helped you out!
Awesome video! Thanks for your hard work. Yeah fuel is very expensive here in Albania. I wish something could be done for it. In Tirana it is 1.8 dollars per liter, so about 7 dollars per gallon.
Love this video!
thanks jono!
Great video! Thank you for the information. Moving to Vlore on March 29 and will be interesting to see how it compares.
You Are Awesome!
Is very interesting to know how much it costs.
I'm an Albanian myself but I have been living in the uk over 23 years now and, I still don't know how much it costs to leave in Albania!
Well done very good of you to explain it in to details what it costs living there.
i definitely spend more than an average person, because of the big house (living alone) and the van (second house 😂)
Wowza. Interesting mate. Although if a lot of Albanians earn what you quoted it must be tough for sure. Although that fuel cost is comparatively very expensive it seems.
very true... the Albanians that earn the average wages probably don’t have a car...
Great information in this video. If you don't have your own car or van, would you say getting around with public transport is easy?
it depends on where you live... getting between cities is typically very easy, though.
@@JamesLeithart thanks
That's the minimal wage, the average wage is 52.815 Leke, after taxes about 44.000leke (355+ euro).
www.instat.gov.al/media/7806/pagat_press_release-t3_-2020-altcom.pdf
Of course, wages are way higher in Tirana compared to other cities.
Can you make a video on the weather & natural disasters that have happened in Albania? Thank you! 🙏🏻
Great informative video James!! Thank you. 👐🏻
Hi, I'm Daniel and we are a family with 3 elves coming to Tirana on 8.7.21. In the program 3 months. Want to find 3 places to live for about a month in each city and explore the area from it. The problem is that the price of the apartments on the regular sites is very expensive for us. We found an apartment for the first month in Tirana for 700 euros. We took from lack of knowledge and choice but it is more than double our budget. How can you find apartments at a more reasonable price? We'll be happy to tip. Thank you.
Hey James! Great stuff! Where are you currently? I'm in Tirana and would love to offer you a coffee / beer.
Would love to! I'm based in Pogradec for the most part and I'm here currently. Not exactly sure when I will be in Tirana next.
@@JamesLeithart Sweet! looks incredible there. I've put it on the radar and let me know if you're ever in Tirana? Following you over on IG too! Cheers, James!
2:17 4000 leke that’s expensive that I’ve expected
Usually my month elec bill is roughly 800-120 leke only
Great video, It's really good to live there if you're a freelancer. 😊
or have multiple income streams...
So nice
Your next video about the cost living in Albania in 2022, you could go to Tirana for a whole month, stay there and do whatever you do in Pogradec and do it in Tirana then go back to Pogradec and edit what you recorded etc etc. Yeah i know it's not easy to do it BUT it will be extremely useful for tourists that come to Albania first time and wanna know the cost of living.
that’s not a bad idea! the problem is that it’s always more expensive if you’re not living long term. so only going for a month would be a bit more expensive than living there
@@JamesLeithart You're not wrong, you're not wrong indeed. I mean, you can go and live in Tirana for like 2 weeks or so and at the end of the 2 weeks period, you could multiple the total amount in Lek by 2 (ONLY for 2 weeks as i said) and make an approximate number on how much money would a tourist spend in Tirana. This idea will BANG in views i reckon
I will definitely think about it! Or i’ll pass the idea on to my friend Ben...And if it’s more for a tourist in Tirana (staying in an Airbnb or something) I’m sure it would work out well. I’ll see what I can do! Thanks!
@@JamesLeithart Perfect mate! And yeah as you said, not only as a tourist but also staying there, the cost of staying etc etc.
Oh for sure it will work out well, if the first video about the cost of living in Albania 2019 banged around 150k views, imagine this one, the next ones and the future ones. This kind of vid should be like a yearly video so every year or so you should make a video about the cost of living in Albania and see what has changed and whatnot but ofc you will plan out the video, who will make it, when will you make it and lots more but anyways, no worries!
Now that i think about it, it would bang if you made this kind of idea every year or 6 months BUT going to different parts of Albania so for example you live in Pogradec right? You made the cost of living in Albania in Pogradec, next you should go to Tirana then next to Elbasan, next to Vlora etc etc. That will be a journey and a half lad but it will be quite costly, renting an Airbnb, the gas for your van and lots more but yeah, that was simply an idea that you could do in the future
"I splurged on groceries. Spent 1000 leke."
Literally have said the same thing walking out of Big market or Rossman.
it felt big... and as i edited i realized how ridiculous it sounded 😅
@@JamesLeithart Haha, right? But it does feel big, though, in comparison to all the markets and such.
I HAVE BEEN WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS ... GREAT INFO . HOW IS LIFE OUT THERE AS AN AMERICAN , HOW DO THE LOCALS TREAT YOU . I PLAN ON MOVING THERE IN A MONTH ... I AM AN AMERICAN , RELOCATING TO ALBANIA . ANY TIPS YOU MIGHT GIVE ME , I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT . WHERE SHOULD I START . THANKS MAN , KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ...
Hello Ronnie, i guess you're already in Albania, how do you find it ? Im sure that Albanians are very friendly and welcoming people.
Hello
Interesting video! :)
Lol :D to a norwegian, like i am that sounds supercheap! :D
Here the rent will on average cost u about 10.000,- Norwegian Kroner which is 122.000,- Albanian Lek ........ :D and thats just the rent for a place to live... :D
but as u say the salary is much lower than here i Norway so it kinda make sense :D
Hi James, can i know why you choose this city? why not tirana or Sarande?
A few reasons… most prominent being this is where my work took me. But even if that weren’t the case I would not have chose tirana or sarande. I don’t like the noise or size of tirana, and i wouldn’t want to deal with the tourist season in Sarande.
@@JamesLeithart especially summer. Your rent there are super affordable.
Did you just say you spend $148 on rent per MONTH? Your place is better than my 1k/mo mortgage house!
One day Albania will be change
hi James Can you prefer for us a check for any rent house system or website ? bcs ı will be move albania in april and ı have 500 euro for lıvıng cost ıs that enoufh ? wıth house rent, etc..
it can be! just depends on what city you try to live in. try going to merrjep.al and you may be able to find some rentable places
You're a bright young man James but you seem to be shopping very expensive veggies and fruits spending 1000 lek and waving a bag or two. Respect, you feel the struggles of our people with their low paying jobs. Imagine a family of 4? It's really sad, but somehow my fellow Albanians manage to live. Yes, for foreigners it's heaven but for ordinary Albanians it's tough. If you plan to live there for another year of two you should improve better your heating options. Shop on Amazon for Japanese made heating products as they may be cost efficient.
maybe you misunderstood... i dont think i’ve ever spent 1000 lek on fruits or vegetables. That was from the supermarket with things like olive oil, meat, etc.
@@JamesLeithart Yeah it seems I did
So umm... which bathroom are we going to use this morning? eeny meeny miny moe
which not all three??
I have to pay 3,600€ each month in Monaco
i was there back in 2017... i was lucky to have a friend to stay with. even then, it seemed so expensive.
Why you don't live at the sea, for example Saranda?
I prefer this town. It’s my favorite in the country.
Brother if you go to struga the fuel is much cheaper thats what people from pogradec do :D Maybe it helps you
well that would also cost the international insurance...
Hello new subscriber here...just following ur vids..coz im getting so much info bout albania...im planning to work there as a massage therapist..but my agency offers me 500$ per month only..including food & house...i know its very cheap but im thinking to accept rathen than nothing..😔 i just hope u make a video about life working there as an expat specially asian (im from philippines)..i just want to know how much is the normal salary rate for massage therapist...& do clients (albanian or foreigner give tips?)...commission etc..sorry for this..but this is inportant to us therapist..thats where we live only...i hope u consider my queries...pls..pls..this is for us aspiring workers..thank u & keep safe always...God bless
❤
Aha now I know where you live, I might hit you up for a cup of coffee next time Im in town. :D
Sounds good!
What’s is your income for the month??
more than what i spend 👍
its the poorest country in europe togother with moldova and ukraine. 500 e its a lot of money.... rich guy
4:59 best part, you and then you on TV 😂
Nope, 5:14 is the best hahahaha
I spend 40% less money than you for power bill in Tirana, but i guess i spend 20-30% more on veggies and fruits, Anyway my total monthly spending is around 500$ without rent cuz i live in my penthouse, Pls,Dont take avarage salary like reference in Albania cuz dosent make sense, This country is the only county in the world who rely in corruption benefits, and corruption is a lifestyle here, even one friend of mine who work like security in public hospital get around 40-50$ a day "tips" from ppl who pay 200-500 lek to enter at times that are not allowed for visiting..Sorry for my english, All the best to you!
It's not really cheap
hello james

not sure what boofy means, but i definitely haven’t gained weight...
@@JamesLeithart lol he may mean to say bufi?! It’s means owl in Albanian and I guess it’s used to describe a chubby persons face at times... lol
I’m curious if Albania is as inexpensive as Paraguay, Argentina, or Peru?. South America can also be very inexpensive place to live! 😊
