First, no one should take part in vigilante justice regardless of what crime they committed. Second, I hope you apply that label to Marty considering what was said about him in the episode.
Couldn’t they have just looked at the employee record of the bowling alley to find the guys name to then go look for him if he was supposedly “missing“
I spit my drink out of laughing when i saw Marty drive in that hotel lobby with a motorcycle. What a jerk this guy was. Poor bastard got himself in a lot of bs. But i think Solomonster is right; the only one he can really blame is himself.
Honestly love the Dark Side Of The Ring episodes and boy is this a wild one. Would like a season 5 obviously. Would like to see episodes on Daphne and Ashley Massaro.
Tbh, and i dunno if they would do it, but a Dark Side on the original cast of Tough Enough would be interesting on how the chaos it was behind the scenes and how most, if not all, have pan out once the cameras stopped rolling.
Now that you said it I would like to see that. Heck the entire show. Well the MTV run. Especially that incident in season 3 with that girl who was laughing at nearly every mistake when working the ring. She made Al Snow so pissed everyone had to take a lap around the building. And as he’s tell everyone they’ll take a lap she’s just sitting there holding in another laugh. Then at the house they all wanna head out to let loose and she’s just like acting weird. They wised up and left to have fun only to come home and see she’s gone. Never told what happens on the air other than she packed up and left for home. But than I read up on what she did. And oh boy
Been waiting for solomonster's review of this episode. I was a huge fan of The Rockers back in the day. It is frustrating to hear that Marty could never say no to drugs etc and if he had just packed it in early 90s we could have got that great WM 8 match. I didnt care at all for the el matador match and didnt care for the tatanka match shawn had at 8 and 9. Thought they were both average at best. RR 93 match they had I enjoyed and liked it. My fav thing about that ppv was the shawn vs marty match. And shawn throwing marty out of a window must have been the reason they did that barber shop stunt where the rockers broke up. But its frustrating Marty never sorted his life out and focused on work. Shawn was more of the driven one that was obvious but I beleive Marty could have been a world champion if he had sorted himself out early on and was smart about things and made the right decisions.
13:12 - "They bathed together.... they even shared the same piece of mint-flavored dental floss. Oh, yeah. The world was their burrito." Sorry about that, at that part, I was just reminded of the Weird Al song Albequerque, and thought it was time for a tribute. Moving right along.
Here’s some subjects I would love to see for season 5. The biggest of my ideas is: the Knoxville 5 and Plan B. I wanna know why the hell they thought exposing the business would help them against the Fullers in the territory. Like your beef was with the Fullers not the entire business. And how were they all able to still be in the business after that even though they never released all the tapes (only one can be seen). Bob Roop never reached the level to get to the national scene. Ron Wright was pretty much retired. Boris Malenko was on his way out. Only Bob Orton Jr & Ronnie Garvin reached that big level. Others include: MTV’ Tough Enough (someone else here brought up season 1 but I wanna know the entire 3 season run. Especially that girl in season 3. Or and Kelsey Grammer blocking them from living in the house next to his for season 3 and the city council member that had the nerve to ask if an IQ test was gonna be taken during the show), Daffney, Rob Feinstein being busted that caused the end of the ROH-TNA relationship the first time, Kurt Angle (come on. Perc Angle. You know you wanna hear more about it), The Sandman, Heroes of Wrestling, the American Wrestling Federation, Jerry Lawler’s case in 1993, Brutus Beefcake, Davey Boy Smith, the original run of WOW: Women of Wrestling, Jim Neidhart, and after hearing about Bash at the Beach 2000 there has to be one of the final days of WCW (mainly from when Russo first showed up in October 1999 to the final day). Oh yeah and the mass exodus of talent from All Japan to form NOAH
I was a kid when Marty dove through the barber shop window to escape. I remember rooting for Marty Jannetty, because he was the good guy, and being mad at Shawn. I thought Shawn's career would go nowhere without Marty because Marty was clearly more talented. It wasn't until '94 that I became a HUGE Shawn Michaels fan. Shawn was accompanying Diesel to the ring for all his matches and was constantly interfering and I just became obsessed with him. He had personality and you could see it in everything, from the way he dressed to the way he cheated. I just loved him. He was great on the mic and great in the ring. He also looked good😍 Mid 90's Shawn was the hottest thing on legs.
What's with Brutus's wife having to be on camera with him while he was being interviewed? That's so odd. And I got a pathetic, co-dependent vibe from the woman Karen. Marty was a true albatross around Shawn's neck, it had to be said.
I feel like his mindset is classic columbus georgia. my dad and uncles have the same mindset as him and they all grew up around each other. I mean no disrespect to any of them, but it is what it is.
Unless they have already covered this topic, but what about Bill Demotts tenure as trainer ? That literally is the dark side of the ring as what happened was pretty much in a ring...
I truly believe that Marty could have been a successful wrestler with a long WWE career if he wouldn't have gotten in trouble with the law and had the mania match against Shawn. Look I doubt he was main title position but easily staying in the company and having a ic title run and always being there that you can have him competing for the ic title. Basically similar spot Christian cage had after breaking up with edge.
For season 5, they need to make a episode on Mexican wrestler The Silent Lady, real name Juana Barraza aka La Mataviejitas (The Little Old Lady Killer), who was sentenced to 759 years in prison for murdering 16 (that were confirmed) elderly women.
I hated listening to Marty's friends bad-mouth Shawn. I know Shawn wasn't perfect, but he recognized that he had made mistakes in the past and tried to rectify them when he turned his life around. That's why he reached out to Marty Jannetty and invited him to be baptized. Shawn was also responsible for getting Marty another chance with WWE. Marty admitted that in an interview, that Shawn likely talked to Vince to get Marty another chance, but then Marty ended up getting arrested again. Shawn is now a married man with kids, he doesn't owe Marty anything. He tried to get Marty another shot and Marty blew it. It's very clear how bias Marty's friends were. At least Shawn did the hard work of recognizing he had a drug and attitude problem, then working to correct it.
if they make a season 5 here are some topics i like to see Art Barr Rick Rude Speaking Out Movement Davey Boy Smith Rock N Roll Buck Zumhofe please leave suggestions below
To throw my hat in what I think could also be covered in future Dark Side of the Ring episodes: Pat Patterson and the Ring Boy Scandal - The infamous "Cream Team" lead by Pat Patterson where would ring boys were being solicited for s*x, Roddy Piper being a notable victim even going as far as to talk about his own encounter with Patterson with Kayfabe Commentaries. Muhammad Hassan - For the whole angle that aired the same day as the London Terrorist Bombings, and just how badly Hassan was treated. So badly in fact that after he was released, he never wrestled again but one time for one night only. Ludvig Borga - Looking at both his career in WWE and Finnish politics, Borga was a controversial figure to say the least.
Surprised they haven't done the fiasco of the Heroes of Wrestling PPV easy for.Season 5. Sean O'Haire would be a topic too. Test and the others that were mentioned by Solomonster.
I love how wrestlers will lineup to throw a guy under a bus. I’m not saying HBK is an Angel by any means but I don’t think in 1991 he was walking into Vince McMahon’s office and pushing guys like Hulk hogan and Ric Flair and Randy savage and the ultimate warrior to the side so he could have meetings with them. I know he’s done some shitty things, but in real life everyone’s done good and bad. I think the wrestling community both people in the profession and fans have this idea of taking people they don’t like personally, and just telling the bad stuff without telling any of the good stuff. Even wrestlers I really like do this. Marty was a hell of a talent, but the guy was a train wreck and that’s not the fault of Shawn Michaels. Hell Shawn, Michaels even tried to get him a job back after he came out of retirement in the 2000s and Marty is the only one that fucked that up to.
It's sad that we laugh at this man's antics and his life is like the broken barber shop glass he was put through by the one person who ended up trying to save him in Shawn being the biggest irony of all.
17:31 - They couldn't have changed their policy too much. WHen the Hardy Boys popped up in the mid-90s, Jeff Hardy was able to lie about his age to get onto the shows, which could have also been a disaster if something bad had happened. Granted, I don't know for sure how much experience Jeff had at the time... but he was a teenager, and not quite yet of legal age.

He probably did kill that man, and I honestly support him if he did. Zero sympathy whatsoever for child predators
First, no one should take part in vigilante justice regardless of what crime they committed. Second, I hope you apply that label to Marty considering what was said about him in the episode.
@@siegmund87Depends on the context, in Marty's case it would've been justified.
@@146zigzag3 That is entirely your opinion, and I disagree.
@@siegmund87 I disagree with your opinion. Looks like we’re not going to solve anything here
Couldn’t they have just looked at the employee record of the bowling alley to find the guys name to then go look for him if he was supposedly “missing“
I look forward to your reviews as much as the episodes
12:10 I thought Solomonster was gonna talk to us about "Gyatt" instead of "Gat" for a second
4:27 - “Lovely” Said in the most Solomonster delivery ever.
Thanks!
I spit my drink out of laughing when i saw Marty drive in that hotel lobby with a motorcycle. What a jerk this guy was. Poor bastard got himself in a lot of bs. But i think Solomonster is right; the only one he can really blame is himself.
Why ? Marty was suffering alot. But he never had personal lives
I was bummed there was no dramatization of the beat down from Scott Hall
Poor Marty was never the same after being thrown through the barbershop window. The head injury from that followed him throughout his life.
And oh boy
I thought the thumbnail was him holding a magic wand
This was beautiful, in the worst possible way. I love this episode.
34:43 🤣🤣🤣you over sold the amount of brain cells he has lol
I love Marty Jannetty. Always have always will ❤❤❤
Marty Jannetty is the guy that never lets the truth get in the way of a good story. He was also his own worst enemy.
I remember in 2009 or 10 he return on a RAW when Miz and Morrison were feuding on
This guy is nuts and the stories he told was wow 🤩
13:12 - "They bathed together.... they even shared the same piece of mint-flavored dental floss. Oh, yeah. The world was their burrito." Sorry about that, at that part, I was just reminded of the Weird Al song Albequerque, and thought it was time for a tribute. Moving right along.
Patterson just wanted two young boys around is why he wanted The Rockers in the WWF.
He was my favorite midcard guy growing up in 90$
I witnessed the mach with him and Kurt Angle live. Great match
One thing I love to see as a Dark side of the Ring would be Ian Rotten and Mid South Wrestling. They could make a whole season on him.
Or Tully Blanchard and cocain
WM8 could've been the greatest WM following X-Seven had it been HBK/Jannetty, Savage/Jake, Flair/Hogan, etc. Only match they got right was Bret/Piper
Or WM,9
I think we all have that friend/coworker that just loves to make up bullshit stories, but Marty kicks that shit up to 11!
“See Macho Man saves the day” 😂😂😂
Party Marty!!
Good coverage!
Hilarious!
I wonder if theyll do a DSOTR on ECW & its end?
That was already documented pretty well in Paul Heyman's DVD nearly a decade ago.
Such an odd choice to end the season with.
Right? Bash 2000 should've been the finale
I didn't even watch that one. I figured I couldn't stand Eric and Vince going back and forth the whole hour.@@Sean1977C
Ian Rotten would be a good subject for an episode
My buddy tossed Marty’s salad in 93. Good guy.
This really should be the series finale. What other stories of note are left to cover? I think it's a wrap.
I can think of a few.
There's many many more
I can think of at least 10 right at the top of my head
I was at that raw where the rockers reunited, it was a great feeling seeing those two.
Marty in da house!
For hired and fired Jim Niedhart should be on that list too
Hell they could do an episode on him
Unless they have already covered this topic, but what about Bill Demotts tenure as trainer ? That literally is the dark side of the ring as what happened was pretty much in a ring...
Party Jannetty!
When they took Marty to the bowling alley, I thought he said after he killed the man, he burned the body. Not tossing him in the river.
He's changed his story a few times
I truly believe that Marty could have been a successful wrestler with a long WWE career if he wouldn't have gotten in trouble with the law and had the mania match against Shawn. Look I doubt he was main title position but easily staying in the company and having a ic title run and always being there that you can have him competing for the ic title. Basically similar spot Christian cage had after breaking up with edge.
His match with the Miz in 2009 was not bad either. 😊
I would love if they went back to the start of pro wrestling and work their way forward. 😊
If a season 5 of DarkSide of the ring is in the works... do you think an episode with Alex Riley can be one?
Why Alex Riley?
@JoKa1013 because he was on the rise and the issues that he had with John cena backstage you think it would be apart of darkside of the ring?
For season 5, they need to make a episode on Mexican wrestler The Silent Lady, real name Juana Barraza aka La Mataviejitas (The Little Old Lady Killer), who was sentenced to 759 years in prison for murdering 16 (that were confirmed) elderly women.
Deadly Woman did a really good episode about her about a decade ago.
good review
I think episode on Juana Barraza would be interesting
Man. . . Makes me wonder what could have been in store for him after that Rockers reunion if he hadn't gotten arrested.
At least Shawn did the hard work of recognizing he had a drug and attitude problem, then working to correct it.
if they make a season 5 here are some topics i like to see
Art Barr
Rick Rude
Speaking Out Movement
Davey Boy Smith
Rock N Roll Buck Zumhofe
please leave suggestions below
Juana Barrazza Mexican female wrestler and serial killer.
I just commented that a sable episode would be cool to see. Haven’t seen her in 20 years and be cool to see her take on her career
The MTV run of Tough Enough. Plan B (not the post sex pill). The All Japan mass exodus. Rob Feinstein incident.
I loved Bad Company/Pat Tanaka...but ...wrestlers....have a tendency of telling lies, stretching the truth and doing stupid things while drunk.
Do you think heroes of wrestling would make a good season 5 episode?
Yes, if they could go one on Brawl for All, then why not that one?
4:27 okay i was wondering if i was going insane when she said she just got in middle school and i was like “so he met you when you were a minor?”
To throw my hat in what I think could also be covered in future Dark Side of the Ring episodes:
Pat Patterson and the Ring Boy Scandal - The infamous "Cream Team" lead by Pat Patterson where would ring boys were being solicited for s*x, Roddy Piper being a notable victim even going as far as to talk about his own encounter with Patterson with Kayfabe Commentaries.
There one idea for season 5 Plan B Tape.
I think the story of Jim Barnett would make for a good episode of DSOTR.
From a storytelling aspect, Walmarty Jannetty is a Ho Kogan lite.
Crazy episode
17:31 - They couldn't have changed their policy too much. WHen the Hardy Boys popped up in the mid-90s, Jeff Hardy was able to lie about his age to get onto the shows, which could have also been a disaster if something bad had happened. Granted, I don't know for sure how much experience Jeff had at the time... but he was a teenager, and not quite yet of legal age.
I'd like to see The American Dream Dusty Rhodes in Season Five. I'd like to see World Class as a whole in Season Five. I'd like to see The Road Warriors as a whole in Season Five especially since they are both gone. These programs cement what Dutch Mantel said recently. I'm paraphrasing of course but here goes. You don't want to know your hero's because you'll be disappointed. Look at the Rockers. You'd be disappointed. Sunny. You'd be disappointed. The Von Erick's. You'd be disappointed. The list goes on and on. I'd love to see you do a program on how McMahon treated people. The scores of people who were treated badly by Vince. Chyna would be one. I know substance abuse is a key factor but it seems HHH used Chyna and Vince ran with it. I don't know. Just a suggestion. Thank you for your programs. You do a terrific job.
I would like to see a sable dark side of ring
Russo TNA run plz 🙏 well it could be 2 fucking parts theres so much shit that went down
With Wrestlers making up stories I mean keeping Kayfabe especially Back Then involves a lot of Lying 🥴🤷🏿♂️
I'd like to see one on Curt Henning
Unless your name is Shane Douglas or Nailz, your chances of getting a gig at WWE are better than average
He reminds me of a friend his is on his 40s I still think he’s in high school and he blames everyone
But i think Marty is mature. But he didn't have a support
Marty Jannetty is basicallly Shawn Michaels if Shawn never got himself cleaned up and became a born-again Christian.
His nickname was party Marty
DDP needs too help Jannety
Geez, this story is a worse train wreck than Tiger King
Season 5 dark side of the ring
Mike awesome
Daffney
Ashley massaro
Heroes of wrestling
Jim Herd’s wcw
Public enemy( Johnny grunge and rocco rock)
Perry Saturn
Etc.
