@8:38 “Fuck his legacy” Exactly. People sometimes seem to have this idea that someone (or something) is entitled to the same level of accolades and acclaim forever, even after they did bad things that negate that. You don’t “have to” hand it to anybody. No one is entitled to any particular level of status, fame, power, money, respect, acclaim, accolades, fans, or opportunities forever just because some people sad they may have deserved it at one time. Many good people die and don’t get a lick of the recognition Grizzly Smith did. He’s not entitled to anything.
"He wanted to enter the wrestling business, not because he loved it, or because he was good at it. Because he wanted to enter his Dad's line of work and be better at it than he ever was just to stick it to him." Oh, he stuck it to him alright. And then some.
I absolutely loved Jake The Snake as a wrestler when I was a kid, didn't know until I got older all the demons he had. I didn't know anything about his father till now, and after this episode, BOY does this explain a lot
Any negative adjectives I use won't be accurate enough to describe Grizzly Smith. This was more horrifying than anything you could see in a Horror movie
As I said on another video, Grizzly Smith makes Fritz Von Erich look like Father of the Year--and that isn't even an exaggeration!!! At least Fritz seemed to genuinely love his children, even if he made bad decisions in how he raised them...
Man, this episode was fucking rough, but the ending did give me a bit of hope. Jake's smile at the end was beautiful and thank god DDP was there for Jake to help him
Aurelia, Robin, and Michael all made it to The World Wrestling Federation. Jake "The Snake" Roberts - 3/3/86 Sam Houston - Spring 1987 Rockin' Robin - Late 1987 or Early '88
You know now as i've gotten older, watching Jake The Snakes promos. Now you are very aware that it was filled with so much hatred, just his tone. As a kid, you never would know that and think this guy is so cool like he said. But, damn. That family went through a lot and i do hope the siblings stick together, that's what they truly need. I learnt so much since i didn't even know Rocking Robyn was related to them, its true what they said, you wouldn't of known they were related... I'm personally happy Jake is 10 years into being sober and clean, hope none of them ever go down that path. Grizzly can rot honestly. Horrible human being.
Finally! I've been waiting for THIS review in particular! I've yet to see the latest episode of "DSOTR". This is the wildest episode in its short history.
Thankfully, Jake achieved the goal he set all those years ago. He is the most famous member of his family, and Rockin' Robin and Sam Houston will also get their due from this episode. Nobody will remember Grizzly for anything except the monster he was.
I’m glad the story was told, not because I enjoyed the content, but because I hope it helps other victims come forward. Not necessarily Grizzly Smith’s victims but others who’ve been victimized as children but never has the courage to come out and speak on it.
All I can say is thank God for DDP!!! If not for him, Jake would be dead right now. And prayers to Jake and his siblings! They’re survivors in every sense of the word. 🙏🏽
Oh boy, this one was hard to get through. At least the ending with Jake smiling and being happy for his sobriety and the other brothers doing well was a nice way to end it.
same here, wondered why there wasn't a Jake the Snake Roberts episode, then learn what a complete shit bag his father was, (I knew Robin was his sister, but not her story) and now it's like it's amazing Jake is even alive, I wanna just give him a hug and say we love you as Jake and Aurelian.
This episode was just dark and soul crushing... it reminded me more of the true documentaries I watch. I completely understand now why Jake had such problems, and my god the shit Robin went through, and the story of her saving that younger girl.
This episode was so hard to watch. I'm happy Jake and Robin are in a better place and doing well. Only downside was Robin not fully believing Jake. Even if her mother was influenced by grizzly, if someone tells you to molest their son wouldn't you take your children and run?
Ya know, I'm usually a very forgiving person who can see the good in most individuals. Even if they do ME wrong. Case in point, I'm buddies with most of the kids who bullied me growing up. We joke about it, letting bygones be bygones. My own stepfather would sometimes get drunk and threaten to kick my ass and we'd joke about that too. Mom left my dad and I out in the cold in the middle of the night without an explanation when I was in high school. Today, we gamble at the casino together whenever I see her. I take pride in being a man of forgiveness who is not afraid to see the good in others to my own detriment because it keeps my mind at peace. As someone who had really bad anger issues growing up (and still kind of does when I do gaming speedruns but that's to be expected haha), it's important to me. But after watching that documentary I saw NO good in Grizzly. That legit messed with me as well all the horrifying things he did. And I am CERTAIN that he orchestrated that kidnapping.
As someone who has struggled with alcohol and drug addiction for a good period of my life, thank God those days are over now. I have a great career and I actually work two jobs. But I know exactly what Jake is talking about when it comes to the sex life. Not only was I an addict but I was also the bodyguard/driver for working girls. Every freaky thing in every dirty fantasy I ever had I got to do. And then one day just broke my heart because I realize just making love to a woman I love I would never get excited by the thought of that. I could never just make love to a woman regular again. So for three years I wasn’t with anybody. Until I found the girl I’m with now and I’m somehow back to normal. I don’t know if it’s her or I don’t know if it’s my time away from the life but I’m normal again.
Robin is a strong woman. She came off looking like a million bucks. This episode didn’t hold anything back. Which makes it all the more disappointing that the warrior episode one week earlier was such a puff piece.
I really do feel sorry for Jake and his family for going through something like that and it makes me appreciate more for ddp helping out Jake because he probably would have been dead somewhere
All dese wrestlers I looked up and watched wen I was little done some horrible things if it wasn’t dsotr I wouldn’t hve known dis occurred in wrestling
Jason, I've heard the "He was a great talent-BUT..." thing from workers too. Wrestling demands so much of someone I think speaking ill of someone who had or has influence-i.e. Vince, for example-you have to paraphrase the real life, uglier side aspects of legends like this just to show you're not dealing with blasphemy.
This was the darkest episode they ever did. I never knew Jake had a fucked up childhood and the hell that Jake and his siblings went through and how big of a dirtbag their dad was
Since Grizzly Smith was never convicted AKA never indicted these child molestation stories did it ever happened unless somebody's actually indicted/convicted of charges is that never happened then this whole story is about to load of crap ton of this crap this is never happened it's Common Sense dude seriously
This whole episode basically has been a disappointment I don't believe anything Rock Robin says number one I wasn't there for her to defend her mom basically after what happened to Jake Roberts let me make her a liar
As far as as far as Jake Roberts goes since he is lying about his drug habit in the past why would I believe anything he says I really believe Rick Rude according to Steve Austin only was he a Christian basically he told the truth
The biggest problem with this one is it's impossible to believe almost anything Jake Roberts says at this point. I believe his sister and I believe all the stories out there that grizzly Smith was a piece of shit but I don't believe I'm almost anything Jake said
“I like my grizzly extra crispy”. Genius and perfectly said.

Sam Houston, Rockin' Robin, & Jake "The Snake" Roberts. I've only known them by these aliases.
the most darkest episode of the dark side of the ring ever
Jake Roberts is a top level wrestler in my book. Always got excited watching his matches.
