"Caustic soda" otherwise known as lye, is actually a very strong base, not an acid. Bases work better for dissolving organic material because they break down lipids (fats) and proteins (skin, muscle) very efficiently. Everyone remembers the scene from 1999's "Fight Club" when Tyler Durden kisses the back of the lead character's hand and then dumps a white powder on it, lye, which begins to disintegrate the skin and cause a terrible chemical burn. Tyler then tells the main character to flush his hand with vinegar (an acid) to neutralize the lye rather than run his hand under the sink, which would have turned the powdered lye into a very hot liquid, as lye mixed with water causes an exothermic reaction, and further spread the chemical burn across his skin. EDIT: It is not advisable to use vinegar to try to neutralize a lye burn, you should instead use cool running water and wash the lye away as quickly as possible, leaving the burn in the stream of water for 10 minutes to make sure all the lye is gone.
'Everyone remembers'...uhhmmm, not me. I never saw 'fight club'.... but yes, the chemistry seems about right. I once worked on a chicken farm...the daily crop of dead chickens went into the dirt pit, a few shovels of lime, then some dirt....it was a 'Correctional Institute' (County Jail Work Farm)...probably a little different now, that was about 1966...

Imagine being the parents of someone who went missing and then you find out about this guy and realize you won’t know if he got their body and if he did they’ll never know for sure or where the rest of their remains are
I’ve actually seen footage of parents desperately searching for traces of their son at the ranch where the bodies were dissolved. It was rough..

This is one of the best videos that you have ever made! I have been following Ed for years and had no clue that he was involved in this case!
Ed is a g! So well spoken and thoughtful. Great dude
10/10 story telling. Always getting me into it. I always love researching after even. This one definitely got me in the mood for ghost recon.
To anybody who has played through ghost recon wildlands you gotta be sharing the same though as me. This gotta be the inspiration for el pozolero

An Ed Calderon colab? Popo Medic is going next level with these. Definitely my favorite thing to see is a notification that there is a new video.
This video caught my eye, unfortunately I can't forget about the incident that Happened to a pre med student from the university of Texas, MARK KILROY. He was kidnapped while in Mexico on spring break by some drug dealers, kilroy was murdered and his body was placed in a vat of acid to dissolve, I believe only his spine remained when authorities made thier gruesome discovery. I don't recall how the authorities identified the remains as having been that of Kilroy. He was thier human sacrifice, to whomever . The drug dealers believed that they would be given protection from law enforcement and rival drug dealers. Mark Kilroy 's case was truly sad, horrific and revolting, apparently his case was not an isolated incident..
I dig the quality of research and time you invest in these videos. The music is badass too. Keep it up man. Props from Pasadena

I lived in Rosarito (south of Tijuana) from 93-09. 2008-2009 where some of the craziest times down there, the violence was extraordinary. A classmate was held for ransom 1 month ($500,000 paid by his parents) he lived, the security guard who tried protecting him was beheaded. My mothers boss was abducted and beheaded. Saw shot up bodies many times, bodies hanging from bridges.. May all those innocent souls Rest In Peace

I love that you’re so confident in your writing that you’re totally down to spend a minute on music, giving your producer space to show how dope their tunes are, before returning to the main story. You’re the kind of talent that people get behind!
The caustic soda “acid” isn’t really an acid but an alkaline/base chemical mix because the human body is more acidic, and to dissolve an acid, you don’t use acids, you use alkaline/base chemicals. What I learned in my criminal forensics class in my senior year of highschool, that to dispose a body, the cheapest way to go about it would be to use drano or other alkaline based drain clearing liquids… or just gut a body and throw them into a deep lake to prevent the body from bloating and floating to the surface. Yea I feel like this info is illegal to know… especially for an 18 year old at the time 😂
Should we be dragging the lake for your victims ?
thats what I was about to say. Lye is a very strong base.

I was bored in Tijuana Mexico and grew up in Imperial Beach San Diego but I lived in Tijuana my first five years of my life my aunts and uncles would host parties to promote my uncle's band and we get a variety of guests and unknown people showing up to our front yard to party and have a good time turns out a guy who lives 2 miles away from her home was also dissolving bodies in acid he actually seemed like an okay dude kept his business separated from his personal life he claimed to have dissolved a couple dozen bodies nothing big couple of years later he was arrested for suspicion of kidnapping and murder
My family is in El Centro and there was a lot of unknowns who would show up unannounced. A few were assholes (I only say this now cus this was like 40 years ago so I think I'm good, lol 😆) but most were like the aunts and uncles of a large Hispanic familia.. one "family" member tried to recruit me after I got out the Army back in the day but I decided to re-enlist and stay in, just in case they got mad for turning them down.. Personality-wise they were good people but businesse-wise, not to be messed with..

The game "Ghost Recon Wildland" had a cartel character named The Stewmaker. What a strange coincidence.
Many people ignorantly say, "Drug use is a victimless crime." Tell that to these 600 family members and the 100s of millions more that have been devastated in many ways by this poison.
Yes, but you're speaking only of things that are purchased en masse from the cartels--cocaine, meth, and fentanyl. We no longer use weed from Mexico.
The war on drugs** not just the drugs themselves.
Using that logic you might as well consider cars and guns too.

Because this is the internet: no one tells the truth.
Ed Calderon made an interesting comment regarding el Pozolero: back when he was apprehended, he was sought after, and provided an important service to the Cartels. Nowadays, the cartels are so brazen and powerful, and law enforcement so powerless and inept, they have no need to hide the bodies: they just leave them in the street.
