  • The 2024 Silverado Duramax acted as a tow rig for us this week, and actually ended up being quite enjoyable to rack up some miles on. We saw pretty similar numbers here to our cold test on the GMC variant, but overall are happy with the outcome.

Man these are nice trucks, I've always been impressed with how good diesels ride & the power that they have every time I've been in one. I'd love to have a diesel truck one day, probably not one like this as that's too much money for me haha, but possibly one that's a bit older used that I could get a good deal on someday, definitely not anytime soon though.

I would imagine the mpgs will get better after it gets some miles on it. I have a 21 duramax L5P and I average 21.5 to 22 pretty regularly on the highway. I have 52,000 miles on mine.

When unloaded you can drop the tire psi down 60/50, and the ride will be better.

Have you noticed dead pedal in the 24 Duramax? I just did a test drive on a 24 LTZ. From a dead stop if you hit the throttle quick at least 1/4 or 1/3 down, it had dead pedal for almost 3 seconds. I mean i hardly responded then hit real hard. Also driving around the diesel just didn't seem responsive till it spooled up. I found it rather annoying. Seemed like a lot of turbo lag. What's your experience? Did the truck learn and improve?

That’s part of the design of the power train so you don’t trash your transmission. These are work vehicles, not race cars.

I also drove a 22 powerstorke and own a 2500 Ram. They're responsive, way better than the GM. With the GM while In traffic if you wanted to speed up and change lanes it was really annoying.

@@CS-rb9jk The power strokes are quick trucks no question. I was just pointing out that throttle slip is not abnormal. But yeah the power strokes are faster than duramaxes for sure.

My 2024 2500 HD Duramax is in the shop again after multiple drive train problems. Is has been there now on this stint for 11 days with a transmission failure at 2200 miles. Failures started at 200 miles. The product and brand is horrible. I purchased an LTZ version (high country quality) and it has been a nightmare. Stay away! I haven't even towed with it yet. Sad!

    • @jdscoco

Just heard personally and recently of others facing similar issues. These drive trains are lemons. The software is bad causing problems. The dealership had service bullitans issued to update software prior to sale (doesn't happen in many cases) as sales and service are disconnected. When the software failure happens, it casues mechanical failures. This was confirmed through a GM tech. There are many of these issues that are ignored. Probably to help struggling dealers get the service work on the backs of buyers!!!
