I have a 2023 SIERRA SLT with the LZ0 and a 3.23 rear end. With about 3200 miles on the truck my overall hand calculated fuel economy is 27.6 mpg (no towing, truck is stock except it has an IDASH gauge). I changed my oil at 2900 miles and had an oil analysis done. It showed a soot level (in the oil) of less than 0.1%. I measured the amount of oil that I drained from the engine and it came to exactly 7 quarts. So I may have used 1/2 quart of oil during breakin. REGENS have ranged from 273 to 501 miles and DEF useage is about 2.5 gallons per 2600 miles. Hope this helps.

Appreciate the video. It was nice to find someone that tracked real world fuel mileage. Although I really wanted a diesel, I am glad I didn't get one because it wouldn't have worked out economically vs the gas option. Diesel in my area is 40% more than gas, so it really doesn't make financial sense when you're comparing 25 mpg vs 17 mpg, and then you add in the little extras of owning a diesel (def, oil, etc.).

I have the 23 max tow with 2000 miles. Gets great gas mileage. Towed a 2 place snowmobile trailer for about 500 miles and gets around 14 mpg doing 65-70. It sure gulps the def if you push the truck. Ideal is to keep the rpms below 1700 when your towing. Constant 2000 rpms and above triggers a def distance counter which displays how much def you are using.

@@kaivonmortazavi8656 It definitely uses more def when your towing. I didn't measure how much, but my only guess is it's related to your fuel mileage. If you normally get 28 mpg not towing, and then get 14 mpg towing, my guess is your def will be depleted twice as fast.

Your 02 duramax should have black oil as well just not as quickly. With it being the 2002, you also don't have an EGR valve to deal with on that one. When I see a LB7 and it has super clean looking oil I go straight to checking for fuel contamination from those injectors !

I bought a 2021 with the 3.0. It was eating 2 qts of oil every 1000 miles. After a year of oil consumption checks every 1000 miles they decided to change out a valve cover with a bad baffle inside. The oil eating went away and it was back to being a "good truck". But that's when the next batch of problems started. Spraying coolant out of the inter cooler, leaking oil, a particulate filter that's so clogged that it backs up exhaust smoke into the cab while driving. They have had my truck in and out of the shop coming up on 8 months now. GMC is not willing to buy my truck back.

I have an 2021 sierra with an LM2 with about 80,000 miles on it. So far its been great. I've noticed occasionally when the truck is warming up while driving down the road, I will get a spike in water temp to around 235/240 then an immediate decline down to the normal 210/215 it usually lives at. This happens infrequently and I have only actually have noticed it a handful of times. This morning I noticed the fan kicked on for just a couple seconds, I looked down and saw the temp around 240 and then it immediately dropped down to normal level. I was towing about 4000 lbs but just putting along at about 50mph only a few miles away from home. it was around 37 degrees out. It seems like this only happens when it is warming up, like its getting hotter and blows right by its intended temp for a second then comes back down. It seems like I might have a sticky thermostat but maybe this is some intentional emissions thing to get the truck up to temp faster or something. I don't think this has ever coincided with a regen as I can usually tell when it is actively regenerating by smell and sound. I was wondering if you ever experienced something like this.
