      My science build has changed considerably with the additional power-creep to exotic builds + good input from the community to make them much better. I actually just use science vessels now instead of cruisers for exotic tanking. STO Academy links below on the builds. Still working out the skilltree & if I want the tac ultimate or not...
      31st Eternal variant -- skillplanner.stoacademy.com/43d35fde7731a4057c8dfe2ba815b61e#starship
      Legendary Voyager variant -- skillplanner.stoacademy.com/3ccfa53db04a0eec04df15e2f1bba042#starship
      DPS League's discussion on the exotic dps meta -- www.sto-league.com/science-ships-in-the-current-century/
      Both ships function similarly, just that one is Cmdr/TO and one is Cmdr/MW, and I personally view these 2 ships as the best sci-tanks in the game right now. The Eternal gets a strong taunt console, while Voyager gets the best Bonus DRR clickie console in the game (which boosts you to 90%+ DRR for its duration, for the cost of no shields & energy wpns disabled -- perfectly fine when your shields are gone anyways, and on a sci-torp boat not being able to use energy wpns during the clickie doesn't really matter much). The Plasma Storm Module (EPG tornado) from the Maquis Raider is super strong -- but again, another single-character purchase... The abilities on the ships aren't 100% optimal, but I'm not the greatest at timing the "best" abilities to work well, so what I have there is stuff that works even if you aren't paying attention to the enemy HP bars.
      As a note: the Verne's console is a strong console for exotic builds -- assuming that you are NOT wanting to tank. That's why I don't use it in my builds. I now use the Temporal Defense deflector & engines for the 2-piece & survival stuff from the engines, but have switched to the Discovery rep's warp core & shields (due to the high regen with the 2-piece & the dps boost from the shield -- for my sci-tanking, my shield power is my 2nd highest bar, so it works quite well). No teleportation from the warp core is something I still have to remind myself of.
      See my Budget Builds: 2020 Edition video for the discussion on the weapon changes (that section is like my mini-update to my exotic builds on the channel). ua-cam.com/video/uWUfjp4lHvk/v-deo.html

    Many thanks. Been looking forward to this. The only tanks I have are meta BFAW ones and I am looking forward to trying something else. Power point works well for me, better than going over stuff in game. I think in game stuff is best suited to a demo run after the build bit.

    Feels bad to be KDF. I know you can make pretty much any build with any race, but I feel it's a lot easier to optimize builds from the Fed side of things. It was for me anyway.
    Great video. I'm really happy to see someone showing how to tank in this game rather than the "DPS > God" meta the game has become. Hope you feel better soon!

    Every game community has that one sub-community that turns the game into a spreadsheet.
    I think I found STO's.
    Good job though bro.
    EDIT: Bro! The editing and stuff in this video is crazy good!

      Thanks for the compliment, though the editing is just PowerPoint slides with one take of me going through them -- I do it in that fashion right now so that I can easily export pdf's of the presentations to GoogleDrive for people to download for reference without needing to watch the video again. Check out my Facebook page if you want to get access to them.
      If you want it entirely in spreadsheets, the subreddit STOBuilds or STO's DPS League are places to check out as well with links to Google Spreadsheets and STO Academy for many of their builds and breakdowns (though there has been a little less excitement on those platforms since Discovery came to the game). They have some great info as well, but you have to look around a little more for it than UA-cam.

      Other starship traits to also consider:
      Spire-Infused Anomalies -- from the C-Store's FED/KDF DSC Science Vessel. It is quite a potent science dps trait right now.
      sto.gamepedia.com/Trait:_Spore-Infused_Anomalies
      Improved Photonic Officer -- from the T6 Tholian Iktomi, everything helps science tanking. I have this trait now instead of Non-linear Progression on my more serious science builds. sto.gamepedia.com/Trait:_Improved_Photonic_Officer
      Arrest -- earned from the constable specialization, gives you similar cooldowns to what improved photonic officer, just without the extra damage. sto.gamepedia.com/Trait:_Arrest

      Very well: the plan at the moment is to put those in-action examples on the Channel Facebook page, so that there is actually something there for people to look at. I have been a little reluctant doing them just because I like making content that **I** can enjoy rewatching -- and those types of videos aren't the type that I can enjoy rewatching myself. Additionally, I want my videos to add to what the rest of the STO community is doing (and not just repeat it). Nevertheless, it is a common & fair request to ask -- and adding commentary would at least make it more bearable for me.

    Bloody insane mate. Now I have though about using 2-250 beam array and 2-torps forward and aft but never 4 front and aft. The rest is fine but I would have liked to seen what you picked for the specialisations. Am sure I could sort that out myself and will later. Am still lending with what I mentioned for weapons. Or 4-torps in the front and 4-360 beams in the rear.

    • @CounterYoloGaming
      @CounterYoloGaming  4 роки тому

      7:09 for specializations. Miracle Worker primary is the best for tanking in space in general and Temporal Operative secondary gives all the good science buffs (tier 4 TO in particular doesn't work with threatening stance on, so it isn't worthwhile to have temporal operative as primary unless you need/rely on Strategist as your space secondary). Nowadays I have removed non-linear progression with Improved Photonic Officer (or Arrest on cheaper toons). The budget version can be found here, but is still older than the Discovery rep stuff: ua-cam.com/video/sAv8gMEwk-U/v-deo.html

      (1) Kofez has had a decent spike since VIL & AOD. For fun, I decided to pug it in my fully upgraded builds a few days ago (and did finish it several times); it is still as hard as ever, but does require a bit more coordination (and a greater incentive for ONE TANK and/or SUPPORT in your TFO group). I don't have anything specific for a build -- as that relies heavily on your starship choice -- but i do have a few initial thoughts for you for it from my biased experience:
      [*] As I said in this video, DO NOT USE a science tank build. It just doesn't work for this TFO, against the Tzenkethi, nor in PvP; otherwise is more effective than standard tanking in almost all cases for threat tanking (similar survivability for even greater threat generation). Science DPS works for that TFO, just not science tanking.
      [**] Your group needs to have at least 4 "high-end" DPS players that each can output over 100k+ DPS (or 3 DPS and 2 off-tanks), as in most of the phases the enemies are too spread out for you to effectively tank everything. The "tank" aspect is most valuable in the first & last phases of the TFO, especially if you have a science DPS captain that gravity wells everything.
      [***] This particular TFO relies highly on the DPS of your entire team to succeed, so it is helpful to veer more toward the off-tank type builds for this particular TFO if you are going to try to pug this mission (not recommended of this nor most Elite TFO's in-game, though possible). If you have a 5-captain premade group, you can make a threat tank build work if your team only needs help staying alive during the first & last phase. Otherwise, veering towards the suggested broadsiding tank builds on STOReddit will be a good place to start when thinking about those builds; keep in mind in most of those builds, their survival (vis healing) is actually enhanced by their DPS; not as good for survival as the builds on this channel, but more optimal for much of the community you will need to play with to successfully navigate and complete the TFO.
      [****] Because your survival also relies heavily upon staying away from Vaadwaur mines, you might consider replacing EPtS with EPtE and using the Evasion Specialist Trait instead of Shield Overload that I use typically in my builds. It is a little inferior, but still gives you good shield resistance for a bit (and can be chained with a duty officer and evasive maneuvers or pilot abilities for high uptime on the trait). sto.gamepedia.com/Reliant_Advanced_Light_Cruiser
      [*****] I also advise reviewing the "new" tanking mechanic I will talk about in the video on January 17th. It is a relatively new experimental mechanic for STO, though its concept has existed for a long time in most other MMO's for tanking. It's a nice alternative to fully tanking if -- especially in this TFO -- it is impossible for you to keep aggro vs your teammates.
      (2) Originally, I thought the bridge officer ability series was a complete failure, so I wasn't going to continue it for some time; however, as I have looked at the numbers further, they are performing much akin to how my original and outdated Survivability Guide worked on this channel (new videos for the series would prompt more people to find the channel and watch the original video in the series). Comparing that and looking at the average & total watch time instead of just views -- the series is actually rivaling my best-performing videos on the channel right now. My next video in the series is currently slotted to come out toward the end of January (depending on new starship announcements), with 1-2 per month for the next few months.

    • @CounterYoloGaming
      @CounterYoloGaming  5 років тому +2

      Yes, these builds are for endgame content that is post-level 50 (several of the weapons and the space set are only available from leveling up reputations or R&D that aren't available until around then). If you play the Romulan Republic, I believe you are still forced to play through the entire arc to choosing your alliance first before being able to skip around and choose other missions in-game (similar issue if you have a TOS or DSC captain). I will eventually cover mission-reward only builds, but that will probably be early next year in my video schedule.

    • @CounterYoloGaming
      @CounterYoloGaming  4 роки тому +1

      If you are leveling with science starships, just use energy weapons instead of torp's -- it will make life much easier for you until reputation TFO's start opening up. At the level 50-ish mark when you can easily start queuing for TFO's, switch to the rep torp's after a few days of daily rep projects and filling what you need for the strong rep torpedoes (including the Lorca Torp now). Sci-energy is easy early-game, but is much more expensive than sci-torp in the endgame.

      The gravity well officer is nice to have for general science builds for sure (aftershock gravity well one), there just wasn't a good spot for it with the other needed officers in this build. The deflector officers for sci cooldowns was needed, and with torpedoes the taunt officer & projectile officers are also needed for the build playstyle. If I could have 8 duty officers, it would have been added. As a science tank, the other duty officers just perform better in my testing.

    This seems extremly expensive to get going. Could you do a video (or build at skillplanner.stoacademy.com) for a budget tank? As far as I undesrstand, the Tholian Orb Weaver (which is currently at an all time low cost at the exchange - 4.8-6m) and a Romulan Sci Captain seem to be a good bet, however I'm unsure how to proceed from there.

    • @CounterYoloGaming
      @CounterYoloGaming  5 років тому +1

      I will be covering this on the channel in about 2 weeks, but yes -- science is hard to get going at the beginning. Getting the torpedoes & upgrading your endgame chosen shield array are your biggest jumps in effectiveness.
      Below are the STO Academy links of my take on my budget build science option (no fleet, no exchange, & no upgrading). I'll go in more depth as to why I choose what I do in that video. The tholian orb weaver is STRONG for a T5U starship, definitely a ship I highly recommend for budget science builds. Romulan Science is strongest for DPS science builds & battle cloak science builds (which I will also cover eventually...); an Alien RRW Science captain is slightly stronger for science tanking, though species choice as a captain doesn't make a large difference in space with all of the other factors at play (it's a bigger difference in ground combat honestly).
