One of the early 90s chess hustlers in the famed NYC Washington Square Park was nicknamed Kamsky due to his uncanny resemblance to him combined with the fact that Kamsky had disappeared for many years. The park chess hustlers had a running gag where they would claim he was in fact Gata Kamsky and charge a premium to tourists to play against him. Just like the real Kamsky, the fake Kamsky took a break from chess, instead taking up poker and backgammon. Gata is probably the biggest "what if" in chess history.
Great video again Ben, thank you ! I just wanted to add that GK is now living in France and play for Chartres, one of the best French team. He is currently playing the French team championship. Yesterday he drew MVL. He also helped the young Maurizzi, current world junior champion... So, GK is still alive and kicking :)
The sponsor of this video was anonymous, so there's a _nonzero chance_ that Gata sponsored this video himself, the FFL himself 😬 (also, this is the best production value I ever seen in a Finegold lecture) 👏
I think I remember reading stuff way back about Gata's father being a not entirely agreeable fellow. Sort of the full opposite of the extremely amiable Henrik Carlsen.
Ben's video quality has a sharper resolution than the Hubble space telescope.
Go stoned! I mean high! What?

interesting
I watch all of your videos and I just want to say that it's great to hear you talk about players you know/knew and liked.

Gata catch em all
always love your lectures, Ben! very informative, always funny, and just a great watch. thanks for all your hard work for the chess community ❤
It's a pity that we never got a Kasparov-Kamsky match. He always fell just short. The Keres of the 90s.
I played simul against Gata Kamsky and played blackjack next to Feingold same year. At Vegas Chess Festival. Early 2010s.
Thanks for the excellent post Ben. As always.
Certainly one of the crazier "still theory"-s that isn't sarcasm.
Kramnik probably thinks Gata was cheating. My dogs agree.

he isn't just great, he is a famous f***n legend 🤣🤣
I’m going to sponsor a lecture using my real name.
Yours,
N.N.
I might do the same, using my real name.
Yours,
Mike Ingsafe
You're still alive? You played Morphy in 1857 right?
Best,
Rufus and Doofus
For the purposes of this lecture, Magnus's last name should be spelled with a K. Kamsky, Karpov, Kramnik, and Karlsen.
Love your vids
I just finished watching the intro section, and I'm still unclear on whether Ben thinks Gata is a strong player. 🤔
Another banger
Buffalo 89'...phew... you just had to be there..
Whenever I see a new ben lecture I just gata watch it
Karpov was a ghost of himself in today's game. Or maybe he was a shell of himself. A ghost in a shell.
Gata played very well but Karpov really crushed him in that championship match!! Good video Ben!
It feels like a Saturday to me
you mean of the past right?
Please do Kramnik.
Karpov is never past his prime. "Truth hurts".
Gata see this now.
If someone updates a wikipedia page to list Buffalo Open as a notable victory, it's a suspicious move but not terrible enough to be overruled.
I’ve noticed most top players play the Panov rather than the Accelerated Panov. Why?
I think I remember reading stuff way back about Gata's father being a not entirely agreeable fellow. Sort of the full opposite of the extremely amiable Henrik Carlsen.
Love these lectures really good. Carry on like this and i might subsribe.❤❤
what heart and mind caused 10 years beyond

Augh, the Botvinnik QGD is in your 1.d4 course? Do not want. I thought you liked the boring world of Niels Bohr.
Gata make a comment on this video!
He has one titled Tuesday once in the past year, and he does get top 10 regularly
get a scissors
Kamsky a great player? u gata be kidding.
😮💨
He's better than the likes of Aronian and Caruana, let's see how good they play in there late forties compared to kamsky
shouldn't be the past? he isn't a top player anymore
Please do Kramnik.
