This lecture was recorded April 28th, 2021, at the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Atlanta (CCSCATL) in Roswell, Georgia. Why am I posting this now? It's for channel consolidation and Ben is busy. It was originally posted on the CCSCATL channel on May 6th, 2021. Now it's here.

Glad I read the description. I thought I hit a time warp
Or he was just very confident of Ian’s upcoming victory!
Daylight saving is disorienting indeed
'Tactics flow from a superior position.' -Bobby Fischer
Superior positions float on tactics
"No they don't"-Frank Marshall
2021: Nepo has no Russian flag next to his nane due to some anti-doping nonsense.
2022: WELL GUESS WHAT...
yes, Russofobia is now in the open.
Ben in 2021: "Ian has a lifetime 4 wins and 1 loss score against Magnus!"
Magnus: **boss music plays**
I was waiting for „Ian won the candidates…. AGAIN“
but then i read the video description
It's pretty close now. If he can just draw all of the remaining games, he'll win.
He won
God I love these videos and the history lessons at the beginning. Ben needs to do a podcast or something
Exactly
I mean.... that's what you're watching. He streams on twitch, and the youtube channel is the podcast.... but you can see the board.
Can't wait for part 2 of this when Ian wins the current Candy Dates
Candy 🍬 dates, candidates
I love seeing this calmer, cleaner, even cornier Ben. The relaxed tone just makes the jokes even better.
"Unlike other players, Ian doesn't play boring." Except for one thing
Hm?
I am so excited for Nepo vs Ding for the finals! Will be a really interesting match up i think.
I trust ben for post Candidates coverage and when I saw the title I thought Nepo must have blown it today.
Great players of the past: Ian Nepomniatchtchi 😂😂😂
Funny how Ben answers questions before they are asked
-I have an answer
-I have a question
...
-Mute the mic when you're coughing
-*Cough*
His audio/cam is out of sync with the rest of the video, the board arrows lag behind his voice too
This guy is just crushing it!!!! His style is fantastic. It's almost like his aggression will crush everyone APART from Magnus
This aged pretty well, no one can blame you for not anticipating a Nepo vs Ding WC match in 2021
unbelivable how this beast got blown away by magnus
Jan wins the candidates second year in a row, so Ben re-posts his lecture from the last time that happened, confusing the audience.
Seriously, the first almost three minutes kept me scratching my head: Jan will play Magnus this December (Really? Interesting level of confidence...); it will be played in Dubai, where they are also having an Expo (?! Didn't that close a few months ago?); Russian players can't display their flags because of a doping scandal (??? Is this Ben's humour?). The remark that Jan lost the last round finally tipped me off.
1:16 Now Russia is banned for a different reason…
for being too based 😎💪
Im starting to love chess.
It's time to run away before it's too late.
Hey GMBen, I used to teach English in China. All Chinese students are taught the Petrov in primary school clubs and are taught to use it as an attacking opening with black.
Standard theory on which openings are for draws Vs winning don't apply to China.
Do you know whats the reason for that? Why the petrov?
Thanks for re-posting - I missed this the first time around. Also, fries.
Tbe game against Li Chao looks like an Alphazero game. Wow.
Wake up babe new Great Players of the
Not a big deal, but there is a couple second delay between the audio and the board
Timely reupload.
Is Li Chao related to Li Chess??
37:27 the delay makes this hilarious
If [when] Nepo faces Magnus again, will he teach us the meaning of insanity?
Doing the same thing again expecting different results
@@kallebanan1924 he will do better
@@aluminiumknight4038 He can't do worse!
That last one blew my mind.
Double b1=Q sacrifice?
Nepo is Mikhael Tal's reincarnation, confirmed.
Lol not even close
So I'm guessing the intro is for us future watchers when this gets posted in UA-cam in 2 weeks and Nepo has won the candidates, right?
The audio is very out of sync with the board, sadly. Refreshed, but it's not helping
I know what helps!
thank you!
"...and he's super confident, that's why he's gone play magnus". that didn't age well...
Why not?
@@HughMorristheJoker This is from before the last world championship match, Nepo didn't end up winning any games. However, and frankly, it does appear to my patzer eyes that Ian is playing better than ever now. Take that for what you will.
@@h0wnr681how thos aged?
@@jpg6296 lol, well it's been a year since I wrote this, and these days I kinda' dislike Nepo. I'm hoping Fabi wins this next candidates, or maybe Pragg.
@@h0wnr681 y u no like nepot
Ben Finegold ages like good wine. He seems to me more respectful, more humble and thiner. Nice analysis as always!
Life isn't black and white, but chess is
Love your stuff.
Am I the only one who thinks that Ben is trolling us all by reuploading this video at this time? It's like he is saying "ok Ian won the candidates, boring but I least I can squeeze the juice out of last year's video a lil bit more, lol"
43:05 , we all know what happened in Dubai , BEN THE PROPHET !!!!
"lets get to the games, cause that's what you are here for" - after this phrase I'm closing the video :) thank you for the "intro" though, it was interesting for me.
Confusing time to (re)post this
"If you want to be better than yuyanji and ding .. good luck"😂💔
Impressive
Let’s go
I'd say Nepo is a pretty decent player. One of the best from the trailing pack that's made of 3 basically (Nepo, Ding and Fabi), which is behind Magz by MILES. All the others are light-years behind.
In faster formats is Hikaru
Ohhhh....this gonna bw good
Li Chao, touch faith
wow, this aged.. well
Magnus came 3rd behind David Howe didn't he?
It's kinda nuts that he's never (quite) made 2800
are they two different Queens on b1, or does the first get resurrected?
Video of the chess board is slightly out of sync, would be nice if you could move it around a second forward
Yeah. This was made before I started working with Ben, and I unfortunately don’t have the original files. - Ben’s Editor
@@GMBenjaminFinegold I can adjust the audio if you want, but obviously reuploading now isn’t ideal.
Ben's audio is out of sync with the board and the audience.
Checks are for patzers, except when they are not.
And then they are for hockey players.
Timing slightly off here, Ben
How much does it cost to sponsor a lecture?
JAN DID THIS AGAIN
The me 3 seconds in the future liked this.
💕
dubai, the city where sidewalks get cut off by super highways lmao
Magnus crushed Nepo. The truth hurts.
No way Ian plays DOTA thats awesome
Dota is for dorks
Vi sitter här i Venten och spelar lite Dota
Och pushar på och smeker, med motståndet vi leker
Vi sitter här i Venten och spelar lite Dota
Och springer runt och creepar, och motståndet vi sleepar
4 queens - hue hue hue
Ian was always better than Magnus when they were kids
Are the Nine Queens from Germany...? 😉
I thought Ben was ahead of himself but then I saw the video and found out Ben was ahead of everybody the whole time
Veery suspicious...
Wait, you're still a GM?
You can say one thing about Nepomniachtchi, after the quality of his play, Carlsen was no longer the world champion
Always repeat. And always repost.
Tip for pronouncing Nepo's name:
The name has an "a" in it.
Just ignore that. Leave it out. Do not include any "a", except in his first name.
Simple.
You hate losing? What a surprise.
I don't hate it all that much, which is one of many reasons I'm not a GM
The Best is Magnus!!!
you know a chess player is good when his name is long and you cant pronounce it.
why?
Uh, Ian was totally obliterated by Magnus. Why would Ben even post a lecture with such un-prescient opines?
Vishy was crushed by Kasparov in 1995. So Ben shouldn’t make a lecture based on Vishy games? Also Nepo tilted after game 6 and then started playing one-move blunders. More like he self-destructed under pressure than Magnus outplaying him.
@@gruntgobshite Fair point, but the pressure you speak of (that Ian folded under) was Magnus himself. Also, Ben goes to great length to present Ian as the truest legitimate challenger to Magnus, which was not borne out by their WC match. Caruana and Karjakin were both far more competitive with Magnus than Ian. My point is that the timing of the release of this lecture is odd. Well, maybe not so odd now that Ian has won the Candidates. Hopefully Magnus defends his title and Ian plays as well as we know that he can.
RECOMEND YOU IF YOU ARE HONEST MAN CERTAINLY! EXCEPT RUSSIAN GAMES PLAYERS AS YOUR POSITION AGAINST THE RUSSIAN AGRESSIA IN UKRAINE! I THINK YOU LL UNDERATSAND AND MAKE THAT RIGHT !THANX!
Talking about chess without mentioning Russians is hard. Everything doesn’t have to be a battleground
Guess you forgot to take your meds again.
Dear Ben, Ian must have been watching your videos, as he seemingly plays the Petrov exclusively now LOL...As Caruana discovered earlier, all attempts to bore Magnus to death are bound to fail...would Alireza rise to the challenge next time?
Gomez
Ian playing the Petroff was very strange. That seems to be the influence of Karjakin as his second. Ian got bored in game 6 and lost in 150 moves because he got himself in trouble by not playing in typical boring Petroff fashion
