How to Prevent Montero Brake Failure

- In this video i talk about one of the scarier issues with the Gen 3 montero, the brake booster failure. The hydraulic break booster (HBB) is a known issue on these. it's actually a very easy thing to fix and prevent so hopefully this video helps some people out before they have a real issue!

Wow!!....I've been dealing with that "chirping sound" for the last l00K miles, THANK YOU!!. I wish my local dealership was as smart as you. I'm now a commited subscriber.
@@sovereignmountain3727 glad I could help!
Thank you so much bro, i have actually the same problem. Man you should come with ur Montero to Morocco. You will loving it 😅 you are welcome!! Thank you man for all ur videos 🙂🙏
nice! i hope this helps you fix it
I am helping an older neighbor who may be a little pc non savvy. His 2003 Montero limited is not getting fluid to the back brakes.Any ideas?Love the video, good job!thanks
Im on my second Montero. 01 montero first one the booster failed at 208k miles 4wd high an low stopped working, everything else good, Second one is a 01 with 173k miles none of the 4wd works booster is great, one fuel injector leaking. I like these because they are unique and rarely see any on the road in all my years of owning ive only seen one while on the road.
Great videos. Keep it up
thanks!
Hi. The video is very helpful, and you can record one in which you bleed the entire brake system in the M3, unless you can help me in the comment on how to do it properly.
I have a 2001 and baught new accumulator the threaded side hole was clogged with what seems like cotton not capped as they appeared in picture I’m curious as to send it back or pull the Wad out ¿ it’s silly but I’m stumped . I have the part and the chirp is getting worse accompanied by a slight bounce off the accumulator
The manual (page 35A-135) tells to drain the brake fluid, then refill after the procedure and bleed it. Do you think these steps with the brake fluid can be skipped?
I got one, called a Pajero around here, how realible is the 3rd gen 2001? I love your vids bro, asking myself if I made a mistake getting one, and if it's gonna be breaking on me all the time etc.
haha don't let the last few videos scare you, these. are great rigs, super underrated. If you take good care of them, they will take care of you
@@montanamonterothanks dude appreciate it!
Thank you so much!
When bleeding, do wr have to remove the brake fluid filler cover cap?
yes
@@montanamontero got it. thanks
Hi! Thanks for your videos, I'm learning a lot! My 2002 Montero brakes were hard last week, my mechanic dude changed the rolls inside the motor booster, but today breaks failed again on the highway, what would be this problem?
my guess is that you need a whole new motor
Thanks a lot!@@montanamontero
Hi! how're you doing? I changed the motor and accumulator, and I still have the problem, hard brakes, I changed it on Thursday and it worked until yesterday, but again the brakes were hard, I had to change the whole hydro booster, or would be a solution to no spend more money in it
Where can I order this part
How does yhe pedal 'feel' when this is failing?
Interesting, just replaced the accumulator on my 02 Pajero a few days ago, solved the chirp immediately. Not sure if its worth replacing the HBB motor too?
i don't think it's necessary, as long as you caught it in time it should be ok
I got a gen4 dpf pressure sensor low problem ordered new 1s they sent the wrong 1s 😢
I have a soft pedal when i brake in 01 montero. But if o pump it a couple times, its not soft.
I'm not losing any fluid, but am suspicious of the booster...
I changed the part but still making the same noise, do you know what else could be?
@@carlosfederico1125 my guess is that it’s still leaking for some reason. Maybe check the o ring
do you need to bleed the brakes after replacing the accumulator? I would have thought there would be air entering the system which would need to be bled out..
nope, i'm not entirely sure why, but it doesn't effect it at all
@@montanamontero Thanks for the reply. Don't have this issue yet, but good to keep in mind.
I used a oil filter wrench.
yep that also works
Question: the problem sound is the tac tac tac, not the shhhhhh, right?
correct, it sounds like a chirping sound.. usually 3 little chirps
Thanks!!! Your videos are the best ones in youtube for Montero stuff, keep it up!!@@montanamontero
@@montanamontero thanks! It was also my doubt about it. My 2001 Montero sometimes has only the "shhhhhh" sound when I'm about to start the engine. Not the "tac tac tac". I don't know much about this brake booster, so I was intrigued with this "shhhhhh". May I consider this normal? Greetings from Brazil!
Where was this video a year ago?!?!?!
Better late than never? Haha
Mine failed and i converted to a conventional vacuum based brake booster in 4 hours
interesting, i wouldn't recommend that normally since you will loose traction control and abs
One way to avoid Montero bake failure is to not own a Montero. 😂
nahhhhh that's not an option!
Lol. Not an option
Land cruiser has the same issue, as do a number of other cars and manufacturers including Mercedes.
As brake by wire becomes more prevalent you will see this issue more commonly
