Will It Rally? This web series from The Team O'Neil Rally School asks the only car question that really matters: Will it Rally? Ride along as we test the limits of different vehicles on our skidpad and slalom areas, before putting them against the stopwatch on a mountainous rally stage here at Team O'Neil.
Our friends at FCP Euro decided to visit Team O'Neil and they happened to bring along a 2008 Cayman S. Not doubting this Porsche has enough muscle to power through our stage at high speeds, how will this mid engine rear wheel drive sports car handle on the ice and snow?
Sit back, relax, and enjoy to find out.. Will it Rally?

It may "Rally" as is ... but hopefully when we are done with it, it will "REALLY RALLY!" Thanks for having us up to the School/property, we can't wait to come back!
Wyatt, so happy to see you back. I'm unreasonably excited and hope we can see more of you in the future.
Yeah, it's so much better with Wyatt!
Didn’t know my guy came back to the school! So nice to see him again!
Me too, I really like the videos with Wyatt, best content on the channel 👌
Why is this video unlisted? I am 100% sure that more than 100 people would love this video.
thank god they put this public so my dumb ass can watch it now
Hey Wyatt! HUGE fan of the series. One quick tip to take it to the next level; I think spending 1 or 2 minutes MAX on a breakdown of the car. ‘This is the ___ with the mid ___ L engine pushing out ___ hp and torque, suspension is front/rear independent, etc’
The 987 cayman/boxter platform is by far the most neutral car I’ve ever driven it’s absolutely amazing
That's just it. The Cayman is a momentum tarmac burner, and most importantly - a SKILLS car. It is insanely balanced.
Because this generation Cayman has been compared to the current generation BRZ/GR86, I think it only fitting that you see if the the Toyobaru twins will rally. You know, for science.
Welcome back, Wyatt!!! I’m back on this channel follow-up, thanks to you!
Wyatt’s back, bout time.
Wyatt is back!
😃😃😃
Wyatt???
Are you back? Either way it's good to see you again 🤘
Hes returned 🎉
I learn more about driving from your videos than all others combined! Thanks.
his driving is officially validated
The last part of the drive had me on edge lol
is wyatt back for good??
Haha! Never thought I'd see a CS on a snow track, but that's impressive!!
Pretty sure this has an open diff as 99% of .1 Caymans don't have a LSD. Porsche felt the weight of the motor was sufficient enough for traction coming out of corners.
Watching closely it looks like it does have an lsd. Not noticing any one wheel peels here imo
@@Melonsareprettyyummy Like I said, 99% of the 987.1 Cayman S's didn't have an LSD as Porsche felt the weight of the motor was sufficient enough for traction.. I only had 'one wheel peel' on the tightest of hairpins (15mph or less) if I got on it too soon..
LSD is more prevalent on the 987.2 Cayman S's, but still pretty rare.. maybe 30% of cars have one..
Glad this series is back!
That automatic fwd corolla is still pretty impressive to be in the middle of the pack lol
Love this series
Do a Fiesta. for real. Would be a good comparison
taking inherently unstable car to snow rally is just an insane idea lol felt like being at the edge of cliff the whole time, scary as hell :S next challenge should be an RR platform. well done!
??? Unstable? What?
This is way too good! What an awesome car to watch you drive!
Great run!
We need an evo 10 will it rally!
Can't wait to see how it does when set up for rally.
How much faster do you think you could go if the abs on the vehicle was turned off 🤔
do a All-Wheel Drive Honda CR-V next! My 2017 feels really nice to slide in snow, I would love to see a professional driver with one
Oh this is gonna be good!!!!
Oh hell yeah!
What kind of watch is Wyatt wearing ? - Also KEEP UP THE AWESOME VIDEOS!!! WOOOO
Awesome to see! I wonder how a 981 Cayman would do given that it doesn't have a manual handbrake like this 987 does
Go go Wyatt...🙌
very nice, makes me wonder what would happen if you removed/bypassed the ABS fuse so you could get rid of the chatter.
would love to see a 2024 Impreza (base) on this stage. Let's see if the most grassroots rally car ever can still rally.
Walter Rohrl ........style ❤.
my maaaaan he is back
You actually made the video
Wyatt is back!!!
Take that Cayenne for a loop!
would love to see a 911 Dakar or Huracan Sterrato
Id like to see how an old subaru 2.5rs coupe or a wrx coupe does
Yeah yeah yeah!!!!
Whaaaat wyatt I's back??? Then so am i
An Audi tt 8n mk1 would be nice to see
WYATT!~!!!!
There’s tarmac rally’s too - so yes
Can you do a will it rally with some kind of older pickup truck. I would like to see that.
There's one with an older Toyota Tacoma, it's worth checking out.
Lucky guy
I’d love to see a s197 mustang GT hit the dirt
Nice, what about Ford focus rs
My dad has the same year non s model. It’s very cool
CAP
@@joycegames5804 why is that cap? A 2008 cayman is under $30k these days
@@TheMxboy199 Bro if it isn’t cap make a video showing your dad has one
Wyatt is back!?
Do my car next! (2023 Kona N)
Does it have wheels and an an engine? It'll rally then! 😁
In all seriousness. What can be done about the ABS system? Is the only answer to disconnect it?
I’m wondering the same. Solution would be on the forums if there is one
RWD Porsches have no right being as good as they are in the snow. Can say from experience taking a Boxter up some unplowed mountain passes in the Sierras. You get a lot of wheelspin just like in this video but it gets through!
having the engine over the wheels do be very useful
Engine behind your back helps a lot, and that is why some like the 911 more because it has the engine hanging out behind the rear axle that is making it tractor up slippery hills almost like a AWD ;)
Isn’t that about the same time the Camry got?
Terrif, Wyatt!
I could never race a rear engine car. That point of no return is just too deadly. Even some mid engine cars do that, but downforce helps a lot.
That point of no return sudden spin with rear / mid engine cars only happens when you drive without drifting it attentionally, so 911 and Cayman is actually more stable and easier to handle when drifting like in this video because then YOU have the control, and the car doesn`t just spin suddenly while you sit there and hope for the best...
Maybe you should let Chris set a laptime in this first and see how much you crush him
The Cayman S doesn't come with a LSD stock. Did they install an aftermarket LSD?
That is correct. As far as we know, one has never been installed on this car.
"The diff works great"
Every single 987.1 was sold with an open differential. They seem to get away with it... most of the time.
You could shave time off for this if it wasn't in the snow...
Is there any chance I could snag some free rally school if I volunteered my 2022 Bronco WildTrak for a vid? It's a 2 door if that means anything. Wyatt hasn't crashed one yet. It's a bit of a cross country drive for me. The thing has 3000 miles on it at the moment, and I've just put exhaust, a Mishimoto intercooler on it, and a TurboSmart boc. Suspension is stock. Wheels are stock. Shoot me a message if you guys are interested. Never been to New Hampshire.
