It definitely hunted through the gears a lot. I found for rallycross and autocross that if I dropped the shifter all the way down to 1 it would hold first until 45mph, then upshift to prevent over revving. Slowing down, it would hold second until 25, then drop back into first. This was perfect for rallycross, though probably not for high speed pursuits. 😊

As someone who had a P71 for a while and lived in the Northeast. It’s a fun platform in the winter to learn to drift that is pretty bulletproof and cheap to fix. Not the best platform but the fun to dollar ratio is phenomenal.

Haven't pushed play yet. Can already comment a most serious "YESSSS".
Spent a winter driving one of these for Yellow Cab around the 3 Rivers. If you don't know, the world record for Steepest Road is on the west end.
Lots of hills, lake effect snows, people needing a ride, and lazy plows. I made BANK whipping those P71s around the city.
See me, SIDEWAYS, spinning tires, full lock, UP A HILL and it was a straightaway. Had to get up those hills. Everything is up a hill. Just get those tires spinning until your rear pushes up and out, then counter.

Thank you for filming at 30fps and an almost 2:1 aspect ratio. Those are my favorite combo, especially if you ignore the 180-degree rule and set the shutter speed to 1/50th instead of the typical 1/60th. A side benefit to 30p 1/50th is that it will film in any country without artificial lights flickering on camera. Other "universal"combos that have natural motion blur are 25p 1/40th or 1/60th, 24p 1/50th (but 24p is ugly), and 50p 1/60th.
You can do 60p universal, but only at 1/100th and that's not enough motion blur to look natural, so best used only for dedicated slow-motion. If you only ever film in an NTSC/60hz power country, 60p 1/60th will have natural motion blur if you ever intend to speed-ramp in the same shot or shoot 60p for proper HFR delivery.

It has staggered tire size from the factory and Tokico shocks with the extra 70hp of the 32 valve 4.6 it will really make you smile on a hard packed dirt road. I'd be interested to see if you can improve on the P71s time.

Some years ago I was mulling over the idea of a cheap, potentially fun-ish family car/ beater and considered some flavor of mildly modded panther platform car (before my wife told me she would not ride in it 😄). A remedy for the heavy front brake bias I can recall was to run "heavy duty" brake pads on the front only (more heat resistant and less bitey.) However, I have no way of verifying how effective this is. 😉

That must be a 98 because it’s the first model year of that body style while having the crown Victoria badge instead of saying police interceptor. I’m pretty sure aside from ASAP 98 and 99 were the only ones with chrome lining under rear fascia and tail lights, and a few other places too. The major updates were all done by around 2005, which is where it made more power, had a better suspension and all that, and rack and pinion instead of the recirculating ball too.
