Apple's Screwed (Microsoft & Facebook Back Up Epic)

- The Apple drama has been insane lately and the twists are even crazier. Epic FINALLY has some meaningful support from companies other than Spotify, and I'm hopeful for where this will go

How you still keep being an Apple fanboy amid all these is mind-boggling to me. It doesn't make sense.
Theo has been incredibly consistent in the things he rallies for and against. Stfu.
I think it’s the loopholes they keep finding that is amplifying the regulators resolve.
It should be a law that corporate malicious compliance is punishable the same as corporate tax fraud.
just demonstrates how broken our legal system is, and in general our world.
Still iffy if the EU is right with its regulation in the first place.
I'd personally just thought that stuff that never started off on mobile, and built a brand outside, shouldn't need to pay Apple much of a cut for using their platform.
Although some, would still make sense since you'd be using their infrastructure.
This multiple marketplace thing could also potentially damage the iOS experience in the long run.
They’ll keep going until a side effect of the law forces something negative and unforeseen…
@@Leto2ndAtreidesbut you arent actually using their infrastructure…
This reminds me of when apple tried to limit the power consumption & data rate of third party usb-c cables for "security".
they did this too? damn
Oh shit I remember that they are pieces of shit
Yep, i got apple airpods pro and they barely charge if i'm not using apple charger (even though voltage and ampage is the same)
That's Apple for you. Remember that every time you buy an Apple product you support their business practices.
They've been in China so long that they act like a proxy group.
So basically, Apple ignoring ruling AND choosing to be a complete bag of dicks against literally everyone but maybe Amazon is really gunna bite them in the ass. About time! Tech needs to be more fun and exciting - imagine the world where everything works great with devices from any manufacturer and creativity and innovation is prioritized over Apple stacking fat piles to waste on 10 billion on exploring if they'll build a car. No more unfair tax on the internet!
We can wish but it will never happen. The amount of idiots defending apple on Twitter is at an ATH, claiming that it is truly all for 'security' and their device is infinitely secure because they can't install anything on it unless daddy Tim says it's okay.
We live among zombies that don't actually care about tech, they just want the social points of having the expensive thingy. Apple won't care until they are hurt financially, so it is probably not happening.
Exactly, there's no reason we shouldn't live in a world of interoperability
Aaaaah the legal system. Where the determining factor for whether or not youre on the right or wrong side is how many megacorporations you have funding your side.
Still better than having politicians and random judges try to figure out what's best for large and diverse groups of people.
@@Leto2ndAtreidesNo, it's not better at all.
The difference is that one case is very prone to errors, corruption and plain incompetence, and the other is "but the shareholders said please 🥺"
@@Leto2ndAtreidesBro, what you are describing is called a fair legal system

The userID thing is super crazy
I've always suspected Apple neglects PWA support to push consumers to their app store.
There is no suspicion. It's more than obvious
Just the web in general - not only PWA
Tech youtube comment section try not to have a lukewarm take challenge (impossible)
Apple once again acting like the Mafia
I called them "corporate thugs" in one of my exchanges with them.
Accept instead of having runners for their merchandise their have and internet of a church members 🤣
The Think Different Mafia
How is it any different from Nintendo and Sony (or Microsoft when it comes to Xbox come to think of it) not allowing other payment options or stores on their devices? These companies also have monopolies in the ecosystems they created, and I’m not entirely sure that’s a bad thing.
Steam literally is "Most sucessful" 2nd (Third) app store on Windows, Linux and Mac.... Since it sell software too
And only 1 successful
Microsoft jumping on the line like this is WILD!
It is not... at all.
1. It's there main competitor in many areas.
2. They aren't doing the same shit, thus it can't come back to bite them.
3. They have the same problem has Epic for years but with the Xbox app.
4. Apple is blocking Xcloud from iOS (game streaming) for no reason.
Part of Microsoft is sad that it is the only one getting screwed by antitrust and now finally Apple is joining the club.
@@z_0968 Yes I agree, I saw all of this, it's just that it takes balls to do it like this
@@yassinesafraouionly people has balls. corporations have strategies, risks and benefits
It really not because a level competition field is better for a software company, which Microsoft is. As a software company you want your software to run on all possible hardware, regardless, and without giving ANY cut to the hardware manufacturer.
Apple is a hardware company, they have NO RIGHTS to the profits of ANY software sold. Its literal extortion what they're doing. "Apple Pay" is bullshit, you're not a real physical store that buys a product and sells it with a cut on top. You're basically a gate-keeper.
Apple is like a mobster asking for ransom.
Apple keeps shooting themselves in the foot by being pricks about everything and picking fights with everyone.
When corporations have such a long leash, they become short sighted with greed.
This is like every windows user being forced to use windows store even for a game on steam
Let's put this in a not tech perspective. Imagine you were selling your x brand cereal at the grocery store. On your box you have your phone number. The grocery store demands that anyone who calls your phone number from the box is a sell owned to them.
That’s accurate if the grocery store also provides the framework to build your product. Also if the price of entry to sell your product in the grocery store is only USD 100 per year. Transportation, and warehousing are provided free-of-charge. Unlimited shelf space is provided hence no additional slotting fee. And the grocery store is available to 2 billion people 24x7 with 24x7 tech support. I mean it’s literally the same thing.
@@wyattleo11the framework to build the product is NOT provided on the condition that any app developed with it owes 30% of in app purchases to apple.
Swift is provided with a permissive open source license. You owe apple nothing for developing an app for their operating systems
@@wyattleo11but software is not a physical commodity there is no supply chain or physical space that you need to store your stock its all virtual. the only infro cost is server cost but the problem is that the supermarket does not allow any other super market to open on its locality.
@@wyattleo11One big thing you're missing here is that it would also have to be the only grocery store chain to exist
@@siliconhawkthat’s a lie.😂 So are you saying that theirs no other App Store in the world. Because ask any android person and they would beg to differ.
Apple used to be a company run by designers and technologists. Seems the lawyers and managers have taken over.
With apples malicious compliance and clear contempt for the courts, if I was the judge I would throw book at them.
I would say "right, I'm going to word this in the hardest terms with no wiggle room and just to teach you a lesson, all those fees we have now said were unfairly gained, yeah you got to refund 50% of ALL your past fees back to the developers, you fucked around now your finding out!!"
Not just refunding a bit of the fees. Actually pay damages.
What's wild is the admission of being an Apple fanboy while reporting on their many anti-consumer practices
Yea imagine still being a fan of them after all this.
You could say that about Nintendo too. But no one raises an eye brow when they like Nintendos products but not their business practices.
Same here. I use Apple devices, work with them, am an investor in Apple… and I’m still hoping for them to be smacked by this lawsuit and forced to change their company culture entirely. Apple has been such a bully for many years, that they’ve turned everyone including their fans and their business partners against them.
For their own good and reputation they need to change everything up.
What does “Anti- consumer” mean?
@@rumble1925 DOn't know a single person that likes nintendo games that doesnt also caveat with "but nintendo as a company sucks" so no not even close to being the same XD
The stupidest part of the video is this 3:53
The whole video is stupid as the lawsuit, they missed valid points and blaming Apple for personal decisions which are their right and nobody should have the say how you run your business or how much you charge for it!
They should go after preventing repairs, monopoly with parts. Slowing down old machines, etc.
They are broke like the EU so they are copying them going after big tech. with merit less lawsuits to collect some easy cash, basically ransoms instead of encouraging local businesses.
If I’m Apple, my last card would be give them the finger and moving to China. Good luck with your stupid politics, ruining the once was top country and economy, hiring thieves and stupids with upside down priorities.
Stupid who thinks this is for people’s sake. They after easy cash and to gain more access to people data. They have to bring Apple down like they made all the rest bend over and open all holes.
It’s not about Apple vs Epic or Spotify or people.
Well, I think I dropped the comment before. Time to show apple who the real market leaders are... :D
It is worth noting that there are no "good guys" in this lawsuit. Apple is of course Apple. Facebook for its part charges 50% from meta developers while Epic is happy adding predatory loot boxes to their games.
my iphone wont even allow me to update apps that i already own because i dont have a debit/credit card on their files anymore
Honestly, the judge should require Apple to reimburse ALL the money they've taken while violating the order to the companies affected. Plus another 200% of that revenue as a punitive fine.
Well, let's hope they change something, but be ready to sell your apple stocks before they lose.
It's crazy how much of their business depends on fees like from Apple Pay, Store and other subscriptions .
Apple embodies the definition of a Monopoly.
My brother in christ you can always go to windows and android. You people are ridiculous
@@spageen my brother in christ, a monopoly for in-app purchases, ain't the same as a monopoly for an OS

You can always switch to diesel... But there is my friend that owns all the refinery of Diesel. so you can be Roasted or you can be Fried but you will always be cooked.

This is like calling a shoe store a monopoly because its the only store in the neighbourhood.
@@arjix8738 so, can a private company not monetize a product/service they provide? Apple built the IOS and wants to charge a fee for others developing on it. How is that not fair?
Apple is screwed NOW because the law is pay for play at this point
Still need the magic mouse video
After this is resolved they need to make user replaceable battery
Bad apple
Software companies have too much control and power.
It’s good to see for once someone’s outside of the EU is actually noticing the malicious compliance. It seems like whenever apple has done this previously, absolutely no one consequential said or did anything about it.
i hope apple actually learns a lesson by this and actually has strict supervision of how they deal with this. i usually dont watch these kinds of things but apple's policies suc.
The popup for Apple not being responsible should happen every time you open an email or browser on the phone. If they are consistent I’m fine with whatever they want to do…
Ohhh the apple golden cage... the apple tax
There are two things... There are free Markets and they are feudal borders!
Companies try to act like feudal (or mercantile/cameralistic) states with establishing their platform, demanding their "share" for using it's service. It is quite comparable to highwayman grabbing money for (safe) transit.
Or like racketeers... you live in our safe zone. We would like you to pay for our service to keep it that way.
Many developers choose mac for a variety of reasons. But over the past few years I've seen Apple acting disappointingly like this so much that when I wanted to buy a new laptop a few weeks ago I purposefully chose a windows laptop. Given this my next phone will also be Samsung, and I will stop paying icloud instead restarting my dropbox subscription. In short, f*** u Apple :)
Who would have thought a company that sells a 400$ phone for 1000$ would do something like this?
Oh wait, everyone that doesn't get influenced by marketing and fanboys.
apple is just a parody of themselves at this point. how people are still consuming their products baffles me. the apple is rotting.
Just the 100USD yearly Apple developer fee is ridiculous.
i agree, and it's not even a one-time fee, it's recurring.
The irony is that the whole reason that monopoly laws exist, is because of the exact things that Apple is doing.
You have to understand Theo, Apple needed the money for the Car
I hope this ends up making things wayyy worse for apple.
I guess you should never mess with Fortnite players.
Ok, hear me out. One company leaving apple: their loss. A lot of companies leaving apple... consumers will get only a handful of random stuff, they leave apple... one less system to maintain? That's a win for me.
I can always appreciate it when fanboys are able to criticize their own for their bad behavior. It's much more impactful when fanboys criticize these companies than outsiders. Even when it is outsiders they're harming the most.
Devs should stop developing for iOS. Nobody's ever going to buy an iPhone ever again if no one develops apps for it.
Let's gooo!!!! 😂
Let's sue apple everybody
I am an apple fan too... and this is great news! apple has gotten away with this BS for WAAAY too long...
Hopefully we get more competition in the market after this and hopefully apple doesn't just find another loophole
I think that all major companies should just pull their apps from the App Store, and let the consumer's complaining to Apple deal with it. If people drop having an iPhone because they can't get their Facebook or use any other apps, then maybe they'd calm their anti-competitive practices.
I find it interesting that the same arguments being used to build a case against Apple, could 1 for 1 be transposed to build a case against taxes.
A state/governement is supposed to not being a private for profit corporation. That means that the comparation would be extremely weak at best.
didn't apple small developer program have a subsidy for reduced cut to 15%.
As an ios dev(mobile dev) the companies fighting against these charges don't care about "Small devs" as much as they care about their bottom line.
The distribution that app store gives is simply crazy. Only thing I am against is showing info about third party payments availability for apps apart from that I would agree for their 30% cut
Stop simping for Apple, just don't use their trash
I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max, a MacBook Air with M2 Chipset and an Apple Watch but im honestly thinking of screwing it all. I love to code on my mac, but im not forced to!
On the change of corporation, cover your head
The primary issue is/was always the basics. The EU dropped the ball a bit. All they needed was to force Apple to give Enterprise publishing to EVERYONE in the developer program and forbid any "forced tie-ins" like payments et all. From there on, everyone could publish anywhere they could push the IPA to and do whatever in the App they wanted. Apple Store could refuse to host you based on xyz, but bar that, you'd be free from the walled garden.
It would be much simpler for companies like meta to just delete their iOS apps and recommend to visit the website on iPhones instead 😂
Which apple prevented since they PWA
This is exactly the point of the new lawsuit; to prevent this from happening.
@@Omega-mr1jg Speaking of which Apple made an update on their developer website, that they won't disable PWAs in Europe because of backlash
Companies should just make evrything more expensive vor mac users. They like paying more for everything.
They already do… that’s the problem.
Does this have wider reaching long-term consequences for other closed systems, like for Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft?
Most likely
They've been in China so long...
Going from 70% of income going to your company isn't a 30% increase over what you had, from the perspective of that company, it's closer to 43 percent.
This is why all third party developers should pull their apps and support any non-Apple platform, maybe go to the extent of blocking Apple OSes from accessing their websites. I would use this as a protest against Apple and show them that they are not allowed to make profits on their work.
Exactly. Imagine if google and Microsoft pulled all IOS/Mac support.
ditch apple.
its no that good😂
Apple needs a new leadership. In order for things to change.
I would change a lot of things. I would let people upgrade ram and storage on their own. I would follow the same games platforms instead of using metal.
I would make it easy for people to do what they wish with their phones and so on.
Allowing companies to have unregulated monopolies over their platforms is just grounds for abuse of the users of said platform.
Maybe be against monopolies, as a principle?
So just to really harp on apples idiotic logic. By arguing that visiting a website to pay is unsafe.. why aren't they blocking all payment options and warning users about them in their web browser? If the "damage" to their eco system exists only if a link is followed from an app, and not from a user visiting a website on their own then no damage actually exists.
They can't block payment systems in the browser? And one could be fooled in thinking that this external webpage is part of the app and not infact a scam?
as an indie mobile developer, publishing to iOS is a horrible experience. you have to not only own Apple hardware (which is a very expensive investment for small devs like me) and an expensive developer license (100$ a year) but every time you want to export your game to have to use Xcode. all of that just for Apple to take nearly a third of your money, after going through a horrible developer experience. as much as I'd love to say "screw it, if Apple is going to treat developers like this, then im not going to develop for Apple" but in the US, Apple has such a monopoly on market share that choosing to not develop for Apple is like choosing to lose out on 80% of your users.
:(
Just dont choose apple
Apple's dominance resembles that of the overweight child who makes up his own rules in every game, convinced of his own cleverness and appeal. However, this only continues as long as everyone else's patience lasts, and it's slowly beginning to run out. (like Shigekiyo Yangu from JoJo 😂)
This is the definition of malicious compliance
Buying Apple's product you support all of this.
"oh no, i'm against their rules", but they don't care, you already put money into their wallet. The only solution is to stop buying anything from them. How much harm you have caused to the industry buing apple's bs?
Google pay is still much better than Apple's version. And you can't use it. Honestly, most Android's free apps offer more than Apple's paid alternative. It amazes me how bad fanboys got finessed. And the whole smartphone market is worse thanks to Apple's practices - because even cheap Chinese phones are now priced accordingly to Apple's overpriced iPhones. Add to that malicious compliance which should be hundreds of millions of dollars in fines for Apple, and it's not hard to root against Apple. Nobody likes them and it's showing - even those megacorps know that it's better for their public image to be against them (even though it might bite them in the future).
Android's problem is Java, GC kills any memory you have, simple as that. The one with Windows is insecurity, no matter how many barriers they put up. And what is the alternative? Apple.
Are you really surprised that capitalism is working? I mean, I'm an Apple fan and I agree what they're doing is shady but we shouldn't expect corporations to ever prioritize morality over profit.
That's why I've always preferred android :).
Need to fix a tiny scratch on your iPhone!? No problema, take it to the nearest apple store. They'll charge you an arm and a leg or at least force you to buy a new iPhone.
Nice am happy apple is finally getting the screw it deserves.
I'm super happy about Theo's absolutely based take here. I've seen so many Apple fanboys doing insane levels of mental gymnastics to defend this mafia behavior of Apple.
in the end, its always the user getting f*cked. It's not like the developers are eating the cost of the App store tax, that is something you pay for as a user in the end.
Also, as an EU citizen, I am so used to the EU putting bullshit laws into place, so it is a really nice change that the EU sees to have kicked off a renaissance of anti trust
Apple has innovated and built new things since the 90s. They take existing concepts, copy them, act like they designed them from scratch and throw a pile of marketing behind it.
Crazy how many people are sheeps and love Apple.
Apple has been known for this since forever. Everyone who is buying Apple products clearly does not care about ripped off...
Stop buying iPhones, for God's sake. Buy a freaking Samsung or Xiaomi, come on.
What a problem if you not agree with apple conditions don’t put your app to this platform! Go to android, web, windows, etc.
You don't get trillion in cash by supporting free market
Do the mouse video
Please!
And perhaps touch on their 1000$ wheels or the stand for the Mac Pro
Microsoft shouldn't talk: LinkedIn, GitHub, NPM, Code, etc. They have significant control over technology.
It's not about HAVING a lot of control, it's about HOW you control.
16:16 It sounds like you mixed "staunchly" with "gauntly", both of which apply, so... great portmanteau!
It's not going anywhere, as long as the sheep keep buying their shit
Blame the fanboys
I would like to see a video of him defending the mouse, because such a idiotic design that anyone that tries to defend it would lose some credibility
my new cellphone will be not Apple. This damaging company is so overhyped
What is that bird on the blue background? Is it new?
XD
well... I just hope we aren't being forced to use the epic games store
I wonder what would apple do if a developer instead of apple pay added google wallet
How the f are you an apple fan, I've hated them for decades.
Apple is a new Microsoft, two decades ago :(
Well... if they bust the App Store... following it will be Google.
That is a real damage to the revenue stream of the company that 30% is PURE PROFIT.
Apple is waiting for Trump, because they believe he will force the EU to make a deal and then US will follow, because this happened in 2016 to 2020, when the EU took action against US internet giants.
Insanity, chaos, actually insane, chaotic
Writing is pretty lackluster if all you can do is regurgitate these words.
Why not just make these extra charges like you US people do it with taxes. Add it onto the price you actually want to receive. Maybe then more people will stop purchasing then using Apple which might make apple actually reconsider it's policies.
They should not force Apple to change rules, they just need to force them to apply their own rules as well. Login before payment, One buy button in whole app....
If I were an app developer, I would just eliminate any payment options on iOS.
If every other company went full Apple and said no Apple or Apple locked devices then what would ones Apple experience be. In most places ones iCloud wouldn't even work 🤣
I like the Magic Mouse. Nice and flat. doesn't force your hand in any position. I am curious how you would defend it?
what if all devs held in-app payments on the Apple ecosystem? at least they MAY achieve the bad user experience apple was asking for
