Seriously, I am really happy to see Lex has been able to create a platform where people of Zuckerberg's position are willing to go on. Just amazing and he deserves it. Congratulations
Have to agree, never been a fan of mark zuckerberg but realise I've only been fed information about him via an algorithm that tries to get an emotional reaction, or whenever he's in the news for something meta did. It's refreshing to hear him just talk. It's still hard to say where his heart is at and how I feel about his work but his ambition and ideas are interesting.
I find that what some people say about him disappointing. Disappointing in that, it seems to me, that people are doing what seems to be a popular narrative about Mark Zuckerberg. Describing him as unfeeling, like a robot, dehumanizing him, and dehumanizing Lex too. What I see are two people who are thoughtful and with that thoughtfulness they can sometimes make such well considered responses that those responses are outstanding and so liken that precision to a robot rather than acknowledge the thoughtfulness of their responses. I wish the interview was longer and hope they share another conversation. It seemed to me Mark Zuckerberg alluded to his openness or even interest in doing another. Hopefully he is not discouraged from the comments section of this video. I'm sorry if my sentence construction isn't great... I just woke up but wanted to finish off the rest of the video and, unexpectedly, feel the impulse to do this comment -all while feeling a little sleepy lol.
Bro I got a house I really wanna sell you and you seem like the type of person who would fall for a good Ad or sales spiel....hit me up champ I want all your money.
Yeah but I think Lex's maintenance revisions to the previous release actually put him at a slight edge over Zuck's newest major release. They might have some more fine-tuning to do.
You people are crazy! Non of this is going to make humanity better. It's all image and worshipping yourselves. All about money and entertainment. Not solving real problems.
Mark looks and feels more natural in this podcast. Kudos to the devs working hard to bring us this version of Mark. Can't wait to see what the next update will be like for Mark!
Knowing that Lex Fridman built Mark 20+ years ago in his mothers basement and seemingly hasn’t kept up with him as the AI has gone on to make a huge name for itself in tech really makes this whole conversation come full circle
Yeah all the people acting surprised that Mark looks "most human" are forgetting about developer bias, you know how your creation ticks and know what to ask. Leave it to QA/Production to make it crash with a question or two.
Lex: makes a thoughtful, somber introduction about the importance of honest deep conversations also Lex: proceeds to immediately troll Mark right at the beginning

Your introduction was so true, heartfelt and personal on so many levels. I appreciate you and how you impact the world through conversation & knowledge…Thank you
Lex has managed to humanize Zuckerberg in my eyes for the first time, or maybe it's just that I've never heard him speak for such a long period of time unscripted and openly, or maybe the AI is just getting really good now
Yeah I agree..im.surprised more big figures don't do this to Improve their image..I also find a bit disturbing that I could view someone so badly without really hearing them speak like this as well Edit * upon reflection it's not so much I viewed Zuckerberg as the bad guy but more so Facebook as a whole
I think that's an issue with Zuckerberg. He rarely goes unscripted. Meanwhile, Musk isn't afraid to go unscripted, he shoots out some questionable tweets and smokes dope with Rogan. Musk has inhuman intelligence, ambition and work ethic - but we still see him as human because he's more open and real. Zuck should take notes.
Thanks, Lex for doing this long-form interview, it is important for public figures like Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk to explain themselves because mainstream media and short interview wouldn't be enough
Zuckerberg Is hard to Guage and don't forget - He didn't come up with the Facebook idea himself although he did recognize it's potential and act on it... Perhaps a wolf in sheep's clothing... Not sure.
@@RighteousBrother You're stunned 2 people are talking... Zuck isn't a god mate... The fact you're stunned by this just shows how sucked up into all this you are... And if you can't see that, you'll never know
This isn't being a force of good promoting this..How sadly deceived people are these..While he may have good qualities, I don't know him, this isn't something that's good for the world..
Wow. I actually thought exactly the opposite. I am surprised to see how much enthusiasm there still is in him. It's a nerdy one, so maybe it's not visible to everyone. I also got a bit upset on his uneasiness at Lex' comment following the (brilliant) bot test at the beginning. I liked the idea, I didn't like the "that is a very impressive performance" comment. Zuckerberg froze for a sec, I think it's very visible.
He sounds like an average business owner trying to find the next big thing. That is fine, but an average business owner should not have the power and influence of Meta. I wish he had the same influence as the German company that bought Budweiser. The power to influence every election in the Free World is a bit much.
Sucks that we won't likely hear Zuckerberg questioned about Epstein connections and why he censored Ghislaine Maxwells trial coverage after visiting Epstein Island multiple times.
Your introduction was everything. I hope most men are more like you in their hearts than we know. If they are, our world has great hope. Thank you for being.
I have to admit that I wasn't 99.9% sure of the existence of humanity in this gentleman's soul. Fortunately, this conversation got me pretty close to that number. Way to go, Lex. Your craft keeps getting better and better.
Before this interview, did you think that Zuckerberg was Dr Evil just manipulating humanity in his lab atop Mt. Everest? 😂 Whenever people point the finger at Zuckerberg as single-handedly destroying humanity, that tells me that you don’t understand algorithms, and that you don’t take responsibility for OUR role in the poison on social media. The algorithms amplify our good and bad, they don’t create it.
@@donharris8846 yep. I think it’s the same with anything and everything though, people included. When something results in a negative, we very quickly forget all the positives. I haven’t used Facebook in a few years now but I LOVED it for a good 5 or 6 years in my early 20’s. I made a lot of great friends on there and it was such a great way to keep in touch with people and share media. But now people can only see it as some evil and manipulative tool. But like you said, that isn’t down to the service it’s down to the users who (for no fault of their own often) lack critical thinking skills, or who actively wish to manipulate and deceive. The kinds of people who would use any other form of media to do so, but Facebook is unfortunately perfect for nefarious deeds like that. I mean newspapers have been used for propaganda, deceit, manipulation etc for centuries. But you don’t hear people decrying the evils of the daily newspaper
@@julesbrunton1728 the algorithms reflect human emotions. People pay attention to the negative, that’s why a positive compliment doesn’t have an emotional impact as a negative compliment. We are the algorithm, people just don’t like to take blame. Literal NPCs walking among us.
Dear Lex, your attitude is simply disarming. You manage to bring out the best in your conversation partners by focusing on their positive points and it is very pleasant to listen to your interviews.
Was hoping to hear about positive points of Mark - tech innovations, unfortunately nothing about React, GraphQL and other brilliant technologies from FB ((((
That is comedy, as though Zuck needs to prove to us, through himself secondly, that he has primary conscious agency and consent in this reality. How surreal lol
I’ve just recently discovered Lex and his interviews. I find them fascinating so far. It reminds me of Charlie Rose, where there’s no audience or graphic distractions. That pure conversation setting is incredibly enjoyable to absorb every bit of this valuable information. This interview specifically, I have a new found appreciation for Mark and his relentless determination to find the best way forward with Meta. He gets a bad rap from others in social media, after hearing this, I think he’s very under appreciated as a pioneer in this interface. Thank you both Lex and Mark for all this information to consider. 👍🍻🇨🇦
Honerstly low key shade that seems to be overlooked in the comments beyond the "hur hur mark robot hur hur" was a great take. Beyond that, honestly the rest of the interview was palatable, I need to get more woke to fully adopt the hur hur robot thesis.
You wanna be seen as human and as having a soul? This is how you do that. This ONE single interview will do more for Zuck than anything else he will ever do. I actually got my first real sense of the man in all these years.
this was actually way more interesting than I initially thought. I thought the Zuck would just go full cyborg and push the metaverse but he brought a more human version of his software today
This was surprisingly interesting and Zuckerberg came off surprisingly well. It feels like it was rushed towards the end, I wish it would have lasted longer. I'll be hoping for a part 2 where things get to go deeper.
I'm sure Zuck rehearsed all possible questions beforehand. He's been scrutinized so many times that he just repeats the same lines that he has memorized.
I think it’s because Zuck was asked human questions, rather than media narrative questions. The point here was to have a conversation, rather than to target key discussions. Which is why I love the Lex Fridman podcast. Make having normal human conversations normal again.
I feel like Mark zuckerberg treats every conversation or interaction like a test on which he’s being graded. I don’t feel like I ever get a response from him where he’s actually expressing his opinion, but instead trying to give the optimal answer. So...no surprises from this interview.
I can almost see that perspective; I think many people are missing the context. This was one of the most human and natural and open interviews I’ve seen Mark give. He IS trying to give an optimal answer because he’s the face of a billion dollar company; That’s a lot of context people throw out. Further he’s a guy who has been PR schooled basically through his entire adult life. What you’re seeing here are natural responses with a few caveats. Are they filtered through a PR lens? Indeed. If you expect better I suspect you’ll not find it anywhere :)
he is just a person operating on a different level than all of us. he needs to be calculated and stay on point. his personality is now this. an intelligent introverted person normally speaks like this.
You can tell, because you are a human with a deep and developed ability to read body language. This is the body language of a person who is not sharing their actual thoughts. We also already know from the whistle blower that they are purposefully doing things that are harmful to people and especially youth

Lex, what are the chances this story is true; Urgent please read this thoroughly! I'm also trying my best to get this out to Alex O'connor (Cosmic Skeptic) Stephen Woodford (Rationality rules) And Drew McCoy (Genetically Modified Skeptic) Stephen Fry Johnny Harris Martin Van Beynen Or anyone who I think are seekers of truth and kindness, and could help me and listen to the whole story. Hi Sam Harris, I've been a huge fan of yours for years and found your wisdom greatly helpful in my life. Please please read this ASAP I read your book on lying recently and though it was brilliant. I have thought for a very long time that truth absolutely matters. And like you said that the only replacement for bad science, is good science. To get to the point and give a bit of context, the night before last (now the 25th of February) I was away with 6 friends, we took some LSD, then they mistook my dark humour for real danger (I've long been a fan of comedians like Ricky Gervais, Bill Burr, Jimmy Carr, Jim Jefferies and the late Robin Williams and Christopher Hitchens) They then tried coercing me into committing suicide, and if I didn't do it, they would kill me. They were trying to build up the courage to do it themselves as time went on. As they were scared for their own safety and thought this was their only option. I tried my best to assure them I was absolutely harmless (which I know I am) but failed in the end to do so. This lasted for well over 12 hours where I was terrified to move and try get out for help. I ended up getting family to call for help urging for police, but only an ambulance came, they refused to take me and insisted I went with the friends who wanted me dead. untill I ran myself for help. I was absolutely terrified and still think there is a huge threat. No one really seems to believe me so far (but now my therapist and 2 of my best friends do) and I'm hoping so much that you may be able to hear me out and help me as to where to go from here. I'm now with family and terrified to go home or get back to work and normal life. I'm scared that talking to police/lawyers/journalists will put me in more danger as I'm guessing they are unlikely to believe me at first, and I don't know the intricacies of the law surrounding their responsibilities. So I'm hoping you will believe me, and I can prove it somehow. I also don't want them charged with anything or any bad to ever come to them in any form because I don't believe in free will, and think they are good people in a horribly misunderstood situation. Another thing of importance is that I've had depression on and off for around 20 years. And after this experience where i thought I was certainly going to die, there is no way I'd ever think of suicide as an option again. and l still think the threat is active. So if I dissappear, or appear to commit suicide, I assure you this is not the case. This is no kind of joke, please, please help me. I'm willing to send $1000 worth of BTC first to prove it. I emphasize first! You can reach me on +64 210624383 Pleading regards, Joel

@@sandollor thanks, I see your point, and trust me I do realize just how insane all of this appears.. For one, I have no one in my life who I've ever really been able to connect with on a scientific perspective like I get with Sam, Alex, Stephen and Drew. And it feels so incredibly isolating it's not funny. This is no one's fault, given my view and the likelyhood that there's no free will, like these people also believe. I've up routed my whole life, terrified to go back anywhere near my home, as I know there's still a decent chance of a threat to my life. I'm starting to feel a little better and safer, and with that a little clearer thought on how to proceed. But I know that lying isn't part of that. And Sam and the others I think would at least be interested enough to do a little digging and see this is no delusion. And then if they do agree it's real, surely they would have some insight as to where to go from here. Or maybe not, and I'll have to get myself out of this mess somehow. After the week I've had, nothing would suprise me now. Feel free to call me yourself if you'd like more details. Contact with a stranger might just help or at least help me reflect

People are finally coming around to the idea that walking in the woods by yourself or with a friend has more value than playing video games or designing a new dragon avatar. I'm glad to hear what a person says, and not just hear what other people say about him. Valuable.

Edit * upon reflection it's not so much I viewed Zuckerberg as the bad guy but more so Facebook as a whole

Right? It's Lex work. He must have done some serious coding prior this interview.
@@donharris8846 yep. I think it’s the same with anything and everything though, people included. When something results in a negative, we very quickly forget all the positives.
I feel like Mark zuckerberg treats every conversation or interaction like a test on which he’s being graded. I don’t feel like I ever get a response from him where he’s actually expressing his opinion, but instead trying to give the optimal answer. So...no surprises from this interview.
I mean considering he’s likely to be judged by billions of ppl it’s necessary. It’s what most politicians do
I can almost see that perspective; I think many people are missing the context. Indeed. Hi Sam Harris,
I've been a huge fan of yours for years and found your wisdom greatly helpful in my life. Please please read this ASAP
I read your book on lying recently and though it was brilliant. I have thought for a very long time that truth absolutely matters. And like you said that the only replacement for bad science, is good science.
To get to the point and give a bit of context, the night before last (now the 25th of February) I was away with 6 friends, we took some LSD, then they mistook my dark humour for real danger (I've long been a fan of comedians like Ricky Gervais, Bill Burr, Jimmy Carr, Jim Jefferies and the late Robin Williams and Christopher Hitchens)
They then tried coercing me into committing suicide, and if I didn't do it, they would kill me.
You can reach me on +64 210624383
Pleading regards, Joel

Contact with a stranger might just help or at least help me reflect

smart!
LMAO
It is like the Rocky sequel we never got
@@electrominded8372 For real haha
Damn, AI has evolved at such a fast pace:
1) Mark passed the ‘I am not a Robot’ test
2) Mark made a joke about the duration of his congressional hearings which was quite funny

Yep, def lol'd at that.
Okay i always jump the first 5 mins cause thr intro is Always so long and boring
I enjoyed the talk. Skipped some but went through in one go. Most interesting part was the last several minutes. Thank you! Well done.
5:49 Everyone's talking about the signal light Captcha and as a programmer I'm just here chuckling because Lex told Mark Zuckerberg "Ok. Now we can initiate the interview procedure"
As an chef im just here chuckling also
1:26:00 i really liked how you respond, props to zuckerberg to listen to you carefully without interrupting. i love discussion like this!
1:55:32 Zuckerberg.exe stopped working.
Nah his browser just had to many tabs open, but nothing his RAM couldnt handle eventually
Looks like an IP conflict
Listening to it now. This is actually a good coversation. Thank you Lex

Agree. Nice interview... Finally got a good insight on The Zuc.
Between Zuc and Dr. Evil (Bozos), I have a much better feeling with this man...
Of course, only time will tell...
It's good that Mark is on Lex's podcast. He should get out often to explain his own stuff and its benefits rather than letting people interpret everything for him. There are pros and cons to everything
Thank you for this comment. Too many Zucks is alien or robot comments out there. I think we need to understand people's motivation more that just echoing what others are saying. Otherwise we may be creating environments which breed dangers we say we are afraid of.
Zuck does livestreams all the time.
Mostly agree with your comment. But 'there are pros and cons to everything'? I do not believe this to be true.
Lex, the frequency in which your guests compliment you on the quality of your questions is unprecedented.
I DON´T BELIEVE YOU FINISHED THIS PODCAST WITH THE POEM "IF"! YOU ARE REALLY AN AMAZING HUMAN BEING ! I´M REALLY GLAD I FOUND YOUR PODCAST ! IT´S HELPING ME A LOT TO UNDERSTAND PEOPLE, THE WORLD AND HOW I RELATE TO THEM ! THANKYOU! ALL THE WAY FROM BRAZIL!
WHY ALL CAPS!!!
Lex, for someone with such a background in AI you are amazing at bringing out peoples human side and thoughts
That's the entire purpose of AI
@@parhamglst3299 no it's not
We crack jokes about this but it's a fallacy that working in AI means you won't be able to communicate and connect with other human beings, in fact you'd be terrible at your job that was the case. As you've witnessed they need to have a deep sense of wanting to do what's good for people, what can help, what can create peace. The cynical perspective to these types is of course, the road to hell is paved with good intentions
@@cunningham.s_law I mean the purpose of AI is to imitate the human intelligence with out it’s limitations. In order to develop AI you definitely need to have a good understanding of human intelligence, thoughts and whatever humans experience

Agree!
Best opening to an interview ever
Elon: "save humanity"
Zuck: "escape humanity"
Can only save humanity by escaping it ;)
VR is filled with people(humanity). Escaping humanity is hiking.

Zuckerberg stole Facebook from I think two other guys who did the majority of the work. Musk is far more like Edison than Nikolai Tesla, nothing but a con-man.

about an hour and a half in is when this really started to get interesting. Unfortunately, thats also about when it ended. have zuck on for another pod, lex. thanks again for your work
sigh.... ok, guess I need to listen to the rest of it then. I got about 40 minutes in, and all I heard was a bunch of bs corporate-speak with regards to algo's not promoting adversarial engagement to maximize screen time, and (mostly) uninspiring projections about VR interactions, many of which I've already experienced on other platforms.

Lex, I say to you now your introduction monologue was of the best you have ever delivered. Powerful, moving, inspiring, and right on the mark.
