Thank you so much for this video! I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out what was the problem. I was so sure the BIOS would refuse to update to any version. Now I got it up to date.

Thank you very much mate!! Bought a new CPU to upgrade and was having exact same problems to no avail! Trick has worked! Life saver and a great video, explaining and showing everything Cheers mate !
I, too, have the X470 Pro motherboard. This video/info on updating the BIOS was most helpful. That said, I'm stuck at BIOS v5603. I keep getting the "selected file is not a proper BIOS" error message loading the BIOS v5809...from a flash drive or via the internet. The odd thing is 5809 is the next release of the BIOS after v5603. I tried v5843 and v5854 and v5861. All to no avail. I'm not sure what to do at this point. I've stopped for the night...it's 1:28am. I started at v4804, went to v5007, then v5204, then v5406, then, v5601, and then v5603. I did try to do v5809 between each...to no avail. I thought 5809 might be bad so I tried newer releases. No luck. I used both the full filename copy as well as the "rename" function that came with v5809 and later releases. No luck either way. If anyone has any thoughts about what to do next is most helpful. And, the reason I'm doing all of this in the first place is that I've put a second GPU in my PC chassis, slot #2, and the system doesn't recognize it. I've seen some videos and other online comments about this matter and there are settings, it appears, in the newer BIOS versions that should allow me to use slot#2 on this motherboard for a second GPU. The third PCIe16 slot doesn't have enough room for a good GPU...it's right at the bottom edge of the X470 motherboard and a couple of connectors get in the way of being able to seat the second GPU in the third slot. It's been a challenge.
@@thericker8099 Found the solution here, the newer bios would not be compatible with the "actual older CPU", so the error was "protecting me" from bricking the system. Luckly I had another cpu in the middle ground, compatible with the older and the newer bios, then the bios update went through with no error. THEN I could install the newer CPU.
Thank you !!!! got the same exact error message trying to update the Bios on a B450 Strix and B350 Strix...the solution was way easier, there is a BIOS Renamer File that needs to be activated beforehand. Manually changing the name still got me the same error message so the Bios Renamer exe is doing more than just renaming the file looks like.
I cheered too quickly. I managed to manually update from 5603 to 5606 and then I used the internet option and the USB one but I can't update to the latest version from here 6042. So annoying.
Hi. I am going to he doing this aswell soon. But I am not entirely sure whats happeningm why did he use internet to update ot once after the first update and then updated it with the USB again. Why not just update it using internet the first time and then use the USB file for the latest one. And why doesn't it update to the latest one using the internet?
Hi, i have followed all steps, but when i try to download the file via Internet i still get the error „selected file is not a proper BIOS“, dont know what do anymore
For anyone else having this issue the fix for me was not extracting the ZIP file using the windows zip tool and instead using 7-zip. I just right clicked on the file, then 7-Zip->Extract Here. When I extracted it that way it worked fine. Interestingly there is a warning message in the 7-zip dialog box when the extraction completes stating that there were extra bytes at the end of the file. I think Asus zipped the file in a weird way or with a non-standard ZIp compression tool.
Wow, this fixed my issue. Had to order a used mobo and getting the same error. Tips in the video didnt work for me but unzipping through 7-zip did the trick. Thanks!!

Hello MyItWorkshop, how I would have found your video before getting into a terrible problem. Since I couldn't update the bios directly, I decided to remove the integrated bios and write the new bios with a programmer.
