    I didn’t save my previous BIOS settings, and I almost had a heart attack when Windows wasn’t starting right after the update. Thankfully, I figured out the old settings needed to run Windows normally. I should’ve saved the old settings anyway, just like you said. Thank you for the great tutorial!
    And let this be a warning to anyone else thinking of not noting down the old settings, even if you don’t have any custom settings, make sure you do.

    One Issue I have; I have an MSI PRO Z690-A WIFI and I just bought a new flash drive and it isn’t appearing on ‘This PC’ when I plug it in. I can hear the connect sound but it’s not showing up anywhere, it only shows up in the Device Manager (NOT Disk Management). This happens every time I try to install a new flash drive, external hard drive or any USB storage unit. So I have no way of moving the update files onto there.
    Is there a way to fix this?
    Will the BIOS menu still recognize it in flash mode?
    Do I have to use a different computer just to extract those files?
    Do I have the option to update via wifi and not flash drive?

      it is best to do it from an empty usb stick cus if you do it from your ssd youre gonna have to fish for it in that long list fo file names
      using an empty usb stick itll only show the one file on there which is the bios making it a lot easier

    Thanks for the video! It looks really helpful but the motherboard potentially getting fried makes me worried. It's not that I don't have a stable power supply but that my computer keeps freezing out every half an hour give or take, regardless of what I'm doing atm, and it only unfreezes when I shut the whole thing off (which is the exact reason why I want to try updating my BIOS). So if that were to happen during a BIOS-update, which is very much plausible, that would mean that my motherboard is goner, wouldn't it?

      You're probably fine to just update to the most recent BIOS version. I haven't had to do incremental updates in a very long time. The last time I had to update to one BIOS version before being able to update to the next one was over 10 years ago. I'm not totally sure if incremental updates like that are even a thing anymore, but because they were a thing in the past I feel it's important to make people aware of it. That being said when I've done BIOS updates in recent years and have had a lot of revisions between the BIOS on my board and the newest ones, I haven't seen anything in the revision descriptions saying I needed to update to a specific version before being able to go to a newer version. I've been able to just update to the most recent version and things have been good.

      If your computer is running just fine there's no need to update your BIOS. I made this video for people that know they want/need to update their BIOS but don't know how to do it. I have an older video where I talk about the reasons you'd need/want to update as well as how to do it. The most viewed segment of that video is the update process walk-thru so I figured it was worth making a new, updated video simply showing that. The reason I updated this board is because I'm building a PC using that older X470 AMD motherboard and wanting to slot a Ryzen 7 5800X CPU into it but because that motherboard is older it won't work with that CPU unless I update the BIOS.

    Is it absolutely necessary to enter the BIOS to do this? The instructions on the Dell website says that I can install it straight from the support website while logged in and run it from there (as long as BitLocker is disabled first).
    And another thing, do some laptops support automatic BIOS updates? I'm confused because as at the time of making this comment (May 2024), my BIOS version (1.25.0) is up to date. I bought my Dell Inspiron in Feb 2018 (back when the BIOS versions available started from 1.7.0). I have not personally made any updates to my BIOS. I'm only just learning about it now. But there's a big jump between versions 1.7.0 and 1.25.0. This means that the versions potentially updated 18 times (according to the list of older versions) without my knowledge? I bought my laptop with Windows 10, and haven't yet upgraded to Windows 11 (although I am eligible for a free upgrade), so it can't be due to upgrading the OS....

      the better mobo and newer CPU you purchase the much easier it can be to update bios via internet, etc
      correct, disable vpn, blockers, etc
      both newer laptops and pc's sometimes can be updated automatically, or via downloads
      basically once a month your pc will check for any updates available, at 2am they will download and install and when you wake up your pc will be off, or not as you left it the night before.
      i would upgrade to win 11 right now, we have less than 1 year remaining for windows 10 and it will no longer be supported, means no protection.. when you upgrade to windows 11, you have like 10 days to roll back to wind 10 if you do not like win 11
      the more expensive laptop/PC the much easier this is

      windows 11 had a rough start like always but they finally listen to us and take a year to improve all the flaws when they need to... windows 10 has roughly 10 months to go until microsoft stops supporting it and 100% moves on to 11 and 12, so i recommend everyone jump over to 11 very soon to get familiar
      they really need to make these bios updates much more easier like your laptop, alot of people are not tech savy and were dealing with ancient tech by going through these hoops to update bios... like literally 3-4 old decade tech/support

    Sweet. I have the same motherboard you have. It would be nice to see what settings you use being that I really don't tamper with my bios. Just to see why you set what you set.

    • @Maraksot78
      @Maraksot78  2 роки тому +2

      I don't usually mess with too many settings myself. The most I usually do is enable XMP (or in this case being an AMD board, DOCP) and I'll often set a custom CPU fan curve so the system will run nice and quiet unless it's under load then the fans will ramp up to keep things nice and cool. I'll usually set the fan speed to around 50% until the CPU hits 60c at which point I increase the fans to 60% and then at 70c 70% and at 80c 100%. I don't like the fans ramping up unless the temps start getting high.

    I have updated my bios to new one and it downloaded pc went of and on a few time and now I have a black screen but my motherboard is flashed green, what does this mean do I have clear my cmos?

    • @Maraksot78
      @Maraksot78  4 місяці тому

      For what reason were you updating your BIOS, may I ask? And what CPU do you have? If you have an older AMD Ryzen CPU like a Ryzen 1000 or 2000 series and you updated to the most current BIOS that will make your motherboard only support Ryzen 3000 and 5000 series CPU's. There's only so much space on the BIOS chip to store the data needed to support different CPU's, so when you update to the most recent BIOS that adds Ryzen 3000 and 5000 support it has to overwrite the data for Ryzen 1000 and 2000 and those CPU's will then no longer be recognized. Depending on your motherboard you'll then end up with either a message saying your CPU isn't recognized or just a black screen. Since you're saying you have a black screen after updating I'm wondering if you have a Ryzen 7 2700X CPU or something and you updated to the most recent BIOS and now your motherboard doesn't recognize your CPU?
      Another thought... I've had a weird thing with my PC recently where when I've booted into BIOS to adjust my RAM speed and restart my computer the screen stays black. I've had to unplug my display port cable from my monitor and then plug it back in, and then the signal finally comes back. Not sure why it did that, but at least it was a simple fix.
      As for fixing the problem I talked about first, if you currently have a Ryzen 1000 or 2000 CPU; you'll need to buy a Ryzen 3000 or 5000 CPU and swap it into your motherboard in order to get your PC up and running again.

      I don't know if this is as much of a thing nowadays as it was in the past. In the old days you would sometimes need to update to a certain BIOS version before you could update to a more recent one if there had been a lot of BIOS updates for your motherboard. On all the more modern stuff though I haven't seen this, so I don't know for sure if it's still something we need to worry about or not. I mentioned it in the video because I've had to do it in the past, but at the same time, it has been a long time since I last had to do that.
