Asus offered to fly out to GN headquarters to talk about this to Steve and his team. When Steve said they would record the whole conversation, Asus never responded.
For those who dare
They wouldn't want to be recorded trying to pay them to keep quiet now would they.
More timid than NewEgg 😂
Heard they had a shakedown about one year ago with their management team. This is when things have probably started to change
@@buruzn09what Newegg do?
As a former ASUS employee, none of this surprises me. After laying me off, they tried to push me into signing a form that said I would never say anything negative about ASUS, its current/future products, or current/future employees. If I do ever say anything negative, they assured me they would take legal action. Since I didn't sign it, I received no severance pay (they offered a paltry 3 weeks' pay if I signed), which goes against the whole "we're a family" thing that they push on you from the moment you join.
Edit: For those asking, the document was called a "Non-disparagement agreement" and while it wasn't illegal at the time, such practices have been outlawed in the US since. I would guess that they don't use this practice any longer, but they did when I was laid off last year.
Classic example of marketing/financial department calling the shots in a corp environment. That is a death sentence for a tech hardware business. Just a matter of time.

@@NkenKenY I am making a new build soon and I will be going with MSI most likely, I have heard the Z chipset boards by Asus have had other problems too unrelated to the problems mentioned in this video.
I mean. This video is just BS. He kept using Asus products left and right. Not even two months later he used a RTX 4060 by Asus, and all his personal builds have Asus GPU + Mobo in them
This deeply upsets me.
My first RMA experience with ASUS was phenomenal. I purchased one of their high end X58 boards and it went DOA within three months. I called their outstanding (at the time) US based support, and they sent me another board with no questions asked. The new one arrived, I shipped out the old one, and that was it. It was an experience that made me an ASUS customer for life and I haven’t bothered looking at other brands since.
Asus used to have a hands on culture with their community. I remember downloading beta bios for that board from a community forum sponsored by Asus. Their community managers used to offer these and they would not void your warranty.
So sad.
beta bios will void your warranty as we speak, also users with a faulty motherboard under warranty, received another faulty motherboard, and so on until 3 or more motherboards were ditched. Moral of the story, ASUS motherboards are faulty and need to address their quality control, it could be a motherboard for a 700 US computer or a 4k computer, they do not care. At the end they are chinese and their quality sucks . The components not made by asus are absolutely great, but ASUS is failing with their components.
Same here. I used to do the same like, hmmm, 20 years ago or so IIRC.
I am currently in the process of getting my Asus Mobo warrantied. There was no contact number and when I requested the RMA the response was we will either repair it or send a replacement that is equal or better than what I had. Once they received it I got an automated email saying they basically make no promises about repair time due to covid (still as of January 4th 2024) and made no mention of any sort of replacement regarding if it would take a while to source the necessary parts needed to repair. So I'm just left wondering if I should wait an unknown amount of time or just buy myself a new board.
@@smacktics get lenovo next time, 4 years warranty premium costs nothing (sometime you get it for free with a coupon) and they will send you people or replacements to your own place.

We have tremendous power, IF we're willing to wield it. It's called "not buying their bullshit". Hit them in their wallets and you'll see these anti-consumer practices come to a stop pretty f*cking quick. Same goes for Nvidia right now and their outrageous prices for the 40 series.
Now it's time to call out AMD because they are guilty as charged, too
@@trajan8474 This is the way! I have historically loved ASUS products, I have TUF and STRIX GPU's, two X570 Crosshair Dark Hero Mobo's, three ROG Zephyrus laptops + two Zenbook, and I won't spend a dime on anything Asus until they pull their head out of their own ass and start treating their customers as though we are the actual lifeblood of their company. I've been fortunate enough to avoid any major issues myself, but I built an X670E crosshair + 7900X and a Z790 STRIX + 13700K rigs for friends and both have had insane issues with stability, blue screens, entire USB hub with all devices just disappearing, and seeing all of the issues that others have had, it's clear that ASUS got drunk on all of that pandemic cash, pulled an Nvidia with prices, started cheaping out limiting features that used to be available on mid-tier $250 motherboards and made them only available on their top-tier $700+ products, they forgot how they got to where they are. The only way that they'll learn is if we hit them in the only place that it counts, their P&L sheets.
@@lldjslim how so? AMD has flat out said they will warranty any CPU that has failed this way...

As a company they have definitely gone down hill. they refused to replace my 5 month old defective power adapter for my laptop after MAKING me send it in for trouble shooting even though i told them i was pretty sure the adapter was the issue. I had to pay over $20 for shipping and then they said it was customer induced damage and wanted me to pay $116 for the adapter. ON THE INVOICE it says the adapter is $25, the AC cord is $4, LABOR $60, and shipping back to me was another $20... oh plus tax...
Labor for sending me a part that costs more than the part??? What is happening over there?!
I wish I had not been 3 months late seeing this video. It would have changed my mind on dealing with an Asus product period. I purchased a ROG gaming router and had an issue with the routers software, I contacted Asus' support. Jay is absolutely correct about their support being a joke. Every time I called or emailed about the routers software issue, they wouldn't even get the issue I was having correct. I kept getting the line, "You will be contacted by higher tier support within 24-28 hours". I was NEVER contacted by 'Higher Tier' support. Just stuck with the form readers in India that never helped me. So, never again will I buy another Asus product!

the thing is it's not random hate for audience. it's experience, and multiplication of misfortunes which are not coincidences. i totally understand the point of that video, as a customer perspective. and at the end of the day, even if it's coincidence, it's up to asus to prove the opposite at this point of dissatisfaction. i'm still considering asus proart monitors but for pc parts such as motherboard, that video will definitely influence my influence, for my own customers when i build machines for others. nice to meet you devil. i'm michael from france.
The brands need to understand, it's not about being perfect and not having any issues with your products, it's about the willing to solve those issues, and the way you treat your customers in the process.
💯
Exactly! Shit happens. We get that, but don't gaslight and try to fuck over your customers with a fix that voids the warranty. How a business handles a problem I have with their product leaves a lasting impression far more than the product or the problem. There sad thing that ASUS doesn't understand is that people are so used to bad customer service that it doesn't take a lot to leave a good impression. Be upfront and honor your warranty without making people jump through hoops, and people will think your customer service is fucking amazing.
That's why EVGA is well respected and supported in leaving the GPU market. I had a 2070 for roughly 2 years and then a 3070. They've been great cards and when I had to RMA my 3070 they were fast at getting a replacement.

Six months later my fan has become noticeably louder and my cpu and gpu is nice and toasty. I did some research and it turns out that the model I got had a severe manufacturing defect that cause the fans to grind on the bottom of the case. This wasn't just my laptop. Tens of thousands of these laptops were defective and ASUS didn't even attempt to notify me. As you can guess, they refused to give me a refund or replacement because my warranty expired. Nah mate. If you're tech savvy enough to install a bios update to fix a problem.. you should know to never flash beta software for something so serious as BIOS(which is actually UEFI now, but we are calling it BIOS). This is really mostly your fault.
Obviously Asus screwed up big time with that ryzen chip overclocking bios, but the warning was there: Installing beta bios voids warranty... this is mostly users fault. Also there are always risks with overclocking and it isn't allowed by the cpu manufacturer, so that voids the cpu warranty too. So it is the user's fault. I always used ASUS motherboards and EVGA video cards this has been a bad past year for me. I think I’m going to give EVGA my money for my next builds motherboard though. I won’t be able to buy a video card from them so ill use them for my board. They made an AM4 board so hopefully they make an AM5 but If they don’t make one by the time I’m ready I guess I’ll try intel. I still have no idea what to do for a video card though.
@@dustinfarmer5158 I'm in the same boat. Wanting to upgrade my GPU and I really do not know which brand I can trust now that EVGA saw what madness it would be to continue working with NVidia. Nearly every other brand in reviews I have watch somewhere along the line have a problem that were never on EVGA cards. Am so reluctant to make a choice now.
Just built a new system with an Asus board to replace an aging one that used an Asus board that worked flawlessly. Really regretting sticking with them. They had a board I wanted at the price point I wanted though.
there's literally no reason to be a fanboy. fuck aesthetics, all their high end boards ive seen nothing but problems and their branding aint that cool anyway.
That was such a hard line.. “climb down the ladder now so the landing isn’t as hard” that caught me off guard from Jay. Thank you Jay, Nick, Phil, etc, for placing yourselves in the limelight to ensure the pc community isn’t taken advantage of anymore. Couldn’t be more proud.
Yeah, I'm curious how LMG is going to handle all of this, I'm sure their forums are all over it, but I fear that they have too much to lose to do what Jay or either Steve are doing. I'm willing to bet that they make a few comments, but I don't think they could walk away from ASUS completely for all reviews and sponsorships, which sucks given the reach they have with their audience.

So glad someone can keep these brands accountable. Keep up the great work guys.
I guarantee it was greed from "cost cutting" which likely came from getting rid of staff, procedures, cheaper components and outsourcing as much as possible! Love the video! Hold more shady brands accountable!
"Name and shame is the deal of the game."
Capitalism at its finest alas.
Sales became in charge of engineers. More than likely. Look at Boeing. The grumbling coming out of there is everything changed when a new CEO took over a decade-ish ago and moved the headquarters to Chicago and left engineering in Seattle. They started firing senior engineers for cost cutting and stopped listening to others on issues. I use Boeing as an example as that's literally planes falling out of the sky level of bad management not listening to the engineers, which is as bad as it gets. But this plays out all the time. I know it's happening anecdotally with ASUS because just a month ago Steve had a rant on board features and talked about engineers at the company saying they needed to get sales to see these things as important if they wanted to include them on products. Which means engineers do not have final say on how good or bad a product that leaves the door is.
@halycon404 Well said! Exactly how it is... unfortunately my work is doing something similar, outsourcing our engineering and design to india... Can you guess how well that's going?? Lol
But these motherboards are priced at a "concierge" level of pricing.
And here we are 1 year later and they're doing the exact same thing
You did Steve dirty on the choice of pic haha
If all influencers were as honest as you Jay, the world would be a MUCH better place. Thanks for keeping it real.
Yeah. The worst one is mkbhd. He's so fake and he'd NEVER fire any sponsor. He LOVES the money. Yeah he gives critical reviews, but never real like this
As for AS ROCK... isn't that the same company as Asus? Or at least Asus made it?
@@marioluigi9599 a quickk search revealed that Asus is the parent company to AsRock, but AsRock is a spun off of Pegatron ( which is also a spun off of Asus), which means AsRock manufacturing and management are basically their own, in different Terms this is like the chinese BBK electronics company that own multiple brand like Oppo, vivo and OnePLus but they are their own companies, only tied to the names of the brand contract so they are basically separate entities so that's explain why AsRock isn't as dogshit as Asus in motherboard

Fr, asus seriously shat the bed
Just go Msi and intel. 0 issues. I highly recommend Msi Tomahawk mobo. I got it with i7 12700k and it's perfection since the very first boot. Haven't had a single crash or connection issue or any issues with overclocking etc and I built my system 5 months ago and use it every day.
Updated BIOS last month (5800x/ Strix x570) and it would not even load windows, it would hard crash. Rolled back the BIOS to find out that windows was corrupted so bad I had to wipe and re-install. Time to change mobos…
Really appreciate the video and you using your platform to make a stand. Hope it makes a difference down the road with asus , but even if it does not , at least folks that seen this will do their research before blindly buying “xxxx” brand. I kind of wish one of the big UA-camrs such as you or GN would maybe go the extra mile and give folks a solution in instances like this. Like hey this company is less $hit, here was our blind support experience with each one. Possibly do a video on the big companies support process. Maybe take 5 or more random parts from random vendors and go through the warranty process as the average joe and show your experience. Kind of like a secret shopper. Could even have viewers that maybe have a defective product in warranty send them in for you to use as a test case. I know it’s not gonna be a huge sample size . However if you had 10 instances with motherboards or video cards with Asus, MSI or Gigabyte and 7 out of 10 positive with one brand and 3 out of 10 with the others … I feel like it would empower the viewers. Viewers would maybe speak with their $$$ and force the $hit vendors to step up. Because as an average consumer it’s hard to pick one brand. Reddit is full of people crapping on each brand lol. I mean I get it , folks are less likely to go on Reddit and say wow I had the best time ever. Some do, but folks are more likely to go out of their way to complain about a bad one. I dunno just a thought. Kind of like your “which brand we can trust in 2022” video but with more in depth look into the actual RMA of each. Which that video kind blew my mind with how much asus went down in a year. Either way thanks for all that you do in your videos and keep being you ❤

Asus, the perfect way to destroy your brand. I will never touch any of their products again. The management of the company should be replaced without hesitation. This is honest content which is sadly lacking on the internet.
ASUS recently tried to claim my board was customer induced damage because "the pins were bent." One of the pins was twice as long as it was supposed to be. They are definitely looking for any excuse to not honor warranties.
"But you don't care" hits hard mans. Right in the feels.
No, it wasn't. The manufacturing process would not allow a "long pin" to be placed. Even if you snuck in and did it yourself, the board would fail during production testing.
ASUS has done this for years, unfortunately. I'm honestly surprised it took this long for outcry.
If the pin in question was a motherboard header it sounds like the pin was pulled out of place. Usually a combination of poor solder quality and being too rough with the connector.

But we also need to consider: there isn't alot of companies around anymore that didn't have a major fuck up at some time and still have adequate designs.

The sad thing about this, many years ago I had two775 chaintech mobo's (same type) fail one after another. First one the shop i bought it at, replaced it no questions. Two weeks later the other board went, took it back, where the shop offered a full refund or replacement board, they recommended Asus. I went with the Asus board, I was so impressed that it was still running ten years later, last time i turned it on. All my boards, (apart from an Asrock gaming PC ) have been Asus, wouldn't hesitate in recommending Asus.. After watching GN and Mr 2Cent Can't say I'm inclined to do that anymore! Oh how the mighty have fallen, Asus aint my hero anymore., Which really sucks- Asus. Do better.
@John Kurokawa - I've never had any issues with ROG, and I've been using those components for the past 7+ years (motherboards, phones), as I usually build my PC from scratch every couple of years (one of those for gaming, but also with 100+ GB or RAM for use with Vmware Workstation, or Hyper-V).
It is kind of difficult to believe that in the global scale - they would screw it all up. Not that I don't believe as such, but they always had a good components in their products (ROG ones - not sure about other ones, such "usual classic" Asus, ,without the ROG label).
I've used an Asus board in my last two builds and had no issues, glad I didn't go with AM5, mine is AM4.
My 2021 G15 has been fantastic, but yeah... after this story, I'm certainly not going back to Asus. Even once they "fix" this, the company has burned a lot of bridges lately. That's going to leave a lasting impact.
I was going to upgrade this coming gen with an ASUS mobo, but not now. F&^% them and their anti-consumer BS. I'll hit up Aorus mobos now.
Glad Australia has strong RMA policies. You don't mess with the producer, you just go to the store and grab a new part and get cleared at the register in 5 mins. I bought a wireless thermometer that broke and the company wanted me to ship to America for RMA, with no guarantee it would be replaced. Just went back to the store and got a new one in seconds
Consumer protection? What the hell is that? We don't know what that is we're bootlicking Americans. It's almost as alien a concept as workers rights
I think that's the real secret, plus sending things into the country can take awhile. The middle-man has a stronger voice and a bigger stake with that system.
@@brodriguez11000 But it seems a little unfair for the middle man to be responsible for the manufactures crappy product, no? It's impossible for a retail store to be fully informed about all their thousands of products...they are after all...just the middle man. Now ASUS apparently refuses to sell product. Many people have had problems purchasing ASUS products over the last 2 years. ASUS just repeatedly cancels orders without explanation. Some people even go as far as calling the CEO office to clear their purchase. I tried this myself and had ASUS cancel 4 orders, using 4 credit cards from both Amazon AND their own website. Something is very wrong at ASUS.
I'll definitely keep an eye out going forward, especially with future generations. However, I've been using ASUS as my main motherboard since my Pentium II SCSI machine.
