Friends of Mine is wicked! I saw them in Scarborough on 17th Sept and I swear to God I cannot get the bloody song out of my head!!! It’s so catchy 😜 The annoying part of that is I don’t know all the words! I think it was underplayed! They all kicked it out of the Arena! Pun intended! It was outdoor and I swear to God we were a 8000 not 10s of thousands. Had there been a roof we’d have lifted it! They gave it there all equally with Wild Boys/Nile Rogers knew what he was doing. I don’t agree with you on this. Simon’s voice is epic. Your enthusiasm is infectious though I’ll give you that!! You always reply which I also I appreciate! The bigger stuff is what people want though. My favourite album is All you need is now 🤔 I think! Can’t wait for future past!
Don’t get me wrong, I love the wild boys. That is the song that brought me into the world of Duran Duran. But I can’t help thinking that the song sounds a little fan here and there. Thanks for the comment
@@RedMugMusic That’s ok. Thanks for yours. I do appreciate your replies even if I do write essays 🤣 . Honestly though find friends of mine and tell me if the same thing happens to you that happened to me! It’s an ear 🪱!! I’d love to know your thoughts 💭 on it! That was pisser that Amazon are doing that I’ll try and think of an alternative (anything to get that song out of my head) ha ha ha 😜 We’ll agree to disagree on the Wild Boys 😊
Lol, I remember in those years Wild Boys became such a huge hit in italy that it was been parodied in several Shows, plus became the official hymn of the most important italian youth movement in the 80's: The so called "Paninari", (the Pet Shop Boys made even a song with this title in honor of this huge movement wich embraced the whole decade from 84 to 90). For this reason nowadays Wild Boys is considered in italy their most iconic song and one of the most famous pop song of all times. My mom hated it back then and nowadays too because she consider its mood and the way to sing, especially the refrain, particularly vulgar. That's funny. To my opinion tracks as New Religion or The Seventh Stranger are way more attractive in Arena.
This song was not vulgar, there's not anything wrong with that song. The darkness of the video and the demon looking baldie was kinda scary/dark though. Nothing to do with our bright and shining boys, they're really great guys, and never ever been vulgar. 💗
For me, I bought this after I had bought the Arena video on VHS and it accompanies the video perfectly. I also wanted to say this must have been a hard time for the group as I think Andy left after Arena? But the video was amazing at the time and I remember being blown away with the special effects during reflex where the fans got soaked. Again, for me, this was my favourite era of Duran Duran because they had released Seven And The Ragged Tiger a year before? And that was my favourite album of theirs and at a time of change for the band in sound and direction because did Arcadia come around the same time?
I agree that Arena should have been a double album, but I think it should have been only a live album with “The Wild Boys” at the end. If they could have gotten the majority of the concert on there, it would have been perfect. I have my original 1984 copy on vinyl. I also have the reissued version with bonus tracts on CD. I never listen to either one. I don’t know why, I just never pull for them. One song I don’t like is “Union of the Snake”. I like the video but I don’t like the song and really don’t like it live. On the other hand, I love “Wild Boys”. Thanks for another great rediscover video. I’ve never used Amazon digital music. I’ve bought CDs from them though. Have a great week!
J.S. listen to the "union of the Snake,"( the Monkey mix,) it is pretty much one of the most amazing 12in remixes from the 80s. J.S.: you will listen close, you will hear them singers.....
I just had a thought I know Duran Duran is getting out now promoting the new upcoming album. But it also making me wonder with them doing these different kind of venues then normal are they quietly campaigning for a Rock Hall Induction?
I got it on cassette Christmas 1984. It broke from overplaying so the following year my parents bought me it on vinyl. I'll never get why Rio and Girls On Film weren't included, not to mention New Moon on Monday, Reflex, etc.
I like both versions of "Careless Memories". It has a great Rock Feeling live, but I also like the "motorik" New Wave Groove. influenced by German Bands of the 70's, like "Neu", of the studio version. P.S. Keep the word (re)Discover. It's the best choice in my opinion.
I remember buying arena as my first album. I also bought it for wild boys. I was disappointed when Girls on film and Rio was not included back in 84. The remastered CD did have girls on film and Rio. I wish they could have added additional tracks to the album. I agree that this album had an edge. You can hear the guitars a lot better than on the studio albums. This album did make me appreciate Duran Duran more. I enjoy listening to this album. Overall Wild boys should have been actually at the very end. I would just keep it rediscover. I think it’s just purely coincidence that amazon used your rediscover name. You can call it recapture or reexperience? Maybe reintroduce? Those are my ideas you.
I won this album in a radio call in contest. I remember it was a win it before you can buy it thing. I was totally disappointed because I had to buy it myself because it took months to actually get it!
I do think it's one of the greatest live albums ever and again, it's a shame it wasn't a double album but remember, they were a pop band and pop fans probably wouldn't have wanted a double live album. I get the feeling the album was only put together to promote The Wild Boys single plus the fact that they were touring throughout 1984 and the record company needed an album of sorts to keep the Duran Duran name in the pop charts
Wild boys is a combination of glam metal and pop. It's nice to be covered in heavy syle ) Careless memories seems like was made without active participation of guitar in puprose. The live version by AT that has been performed in 1981-84 is perfet! I think guitarists or arrangers will understand me. It was really cool when AT made overdriven bends in key of E major (or minor) and it was really rocky! Maybe guys wanted to concentate the fans attention on a tracks that werenot so popular - that's why there are no Rio, GoF, The Reflex, etc...)
If you would like to react to something you may not have heard before, I would recommend listening to the artist Aesthetic Perfection with their song Bark at the Moon
It's iconic in their discography but it's too short and it lack of too much important tracks such as Rio and Girls on film. Obviously IMHO and with all due respect🙏
Yes it should have been a double live album but a lot of live albums back in the 70s and 80s were not double. The Who’s Live at Leeds is considered one of the best live albums ever and it only had 6 tracks on it. Ok, My Generation went on for 14 -plus minutes but still. Wild Boys should never have been placed on this album. I understand it was put on there to boost sales, as it was a hit at the time (Oct ‘84) but let’s face it, Duran we’re arguably the biggest the band in the world at the time, so it wouldn’t have mattered if it had been omitted. Leaving out Girls On Film, RIO and Friends of Mine were big mistakes in my mind. The overdubbing. It’s a well known fact that overdubbing was carried out on this album as the screaming fans drowned out a lot of the original recordings. The band had to go back into the studio to touch up the songs but having heard a bootleg of the tour, they are not disimular to the overdubbed tracks. These were just given a bit of a boost. Nothing wrong with that, again, most live albums have overdubs as the venues do not always lend themselves to good sound recordings. Thin Lizzy’s “Live and Dangerous” (again, a much lauded live album) is heavily dubbed. Not a big deal in my book. It sounds amazing. There is an alternative to Arena - As The Lights Go Down was the name of the concert film made for TV and some say superior to the Arena movie. The soundtrack is available on iTunes and Amazon Music but it’s quite unpolished and the mix is different. The percussion for one is higher in the mix than in Arena and the track listing again is not so good. It’s still only has 11 tracks compared to Arena’s 9 (not counting Wild Boys). In 2019 the band released ATLGD on Record Store Day as a limited edition double album in pink and blue vinyl. It contains Tiger Tiger as an intro and has jigged around the track order somewhat (Union Of The Snake appears after Hungry Like The Wolf. In Arena it appears after The Chauffeur). Careless Memories outro is longer, amongst other differences. It still has the percussion high in the mix which is fine and it’s bit more polished than the digital version but they still haven’t been able to sort out Girls On Film’s cut to the Night Version which make me think the source of this album is from the film, not the original soundboard recording tapes. Still it’s an improvement but yes, it still could do with a few more tracks from the Sing Blue Silver tour setlist!
I never listen to this album. I hated it when it came out and still do. Duran Duran are are a fabulous band to see live, but this album offers (to my mind) inferior versions of some of their classics. If they had released alternative arrangements and maybe a unique cover or two then this may have had more to offer. Instead, it comes across like a record company obligation with the latest single insensitivity thrown in. For the best live experience of this era, I would only rate the Sing Blue Silver video.

Good one!!
Enthusiastic, but you're tripping, there isn't a scrap or molecule missing from wildboyz, Nile Rodgers knows what he's doing bro.
Lol maybe so but specially in the chorus. It’s almost nothing but percussion and bass. There’s just something about it.
@@RedMugMusic I remember when wild boys hit the FM, I dug into my paper routemoney to go buy Arena, that was my first DD album too bro
I totally agree! Nile's a perfect pro.
The 12 mix of Wild Boys is the superior version of the song and was the version used in the ARENA mini film.
Cracks in the pavement
The real "Save a prayer" ..better than original for guitar arrangement in first part. The real "the Chaffeur" better in all than original
