This is Part 1 in a series of videos, this video covers everything from the unboxing, to zeroing of the Bergara HMR Pro Bolt action rifle in .308. In part 2 we go feral hog hunting with it. We're using a Trijicon TR23 on this rifle. The full video on that optic will be published shortly.
All of the optics hardware can be purchased here:

How do you load the bipod if its on backwards and would basically close up?
Harris bipod springs are very stiff. We’ve never had one close on anyone in this orientation, and we hunt a lot with 4 of these in the “backwards” position. Not saying others should do it this way, it definitely will fold with enough pressure, but this is the only way we mount them due to the orientation of the rifle racks in our atvs. We also probably load a lot lighter in most cases because we primary hunt feral hogs and are constantly moving, there’s not usually a lot of time to take a perfect shot.
If you shoot it enough you’ll end up switching the bipod. Great rifle by the way.
Not only his bipod, his rear bag is the wrong kind of bag. He's using a rear bag that is designed to be used with a front rest.
A really cool thing about a .308 is that it's fairly easy and forgiving to reload. There are all kinds of bullets, and a ton of powders that work well in the caliber.
Indeed. I’ve fought the temptation to reload for many years because I know I will become obsessed with it. I’ve saved all my brass so I have a ton.
Good to see some love on the 308. My old 308 was a lot easier to tune than my 6.5 has ever been.
It’s great !
I've always wanted a .308 bolt gun and was looking at Savage or Ruger and until five hours ago I never heard or Bergara.
Looks like I found the rifle for me. Great review/shooting!
Savage and Ruger both do incredibly well too. While I don't own one personally, I've shot some of the recent offerings and I was very impressed with the Ruger and Savage bolts. I will say, in my opinion at least, the actions were not as smooth as the one on the HMR pro, but they were damn fine rifles. Sub moa no question.
What a well balanced video between audio and video, and your voice is perfect for videos, too.
I just grabbed a B14 308 rifle on trade. I’m stoked to get it setup and sighted in.
Glad you enjoyed it! This is still our goto 308.
Same here I will always have a 308 on deck. Used them all my life so might as well stick with it
Awesome video! Any more on this rifle?
I have the HMR Pro in 6.5 cm with Vortex and it’s a sub moa rifle ! Nuff said !!!
Please do a part two!!!!!!!
I got rid of that pic rail and went with 1 piece Talley direct mounts. Less error and movement. I also added the Bergara Muzzle break (way over priced) but significantly reduced recoil.
What did you wind up using exactly? Base and rings?
Very Nice.
What degree throw is this action? Thanks
Awww yes I like 308 and 6.5 !
308. You make me so proud 😢
Ha! 308 is great. Ballistically we like the 6.5 grendel better, but it’s not a bolt platform and we wanted to make a bolt video. 👍
Which Harris bipod are you running? Which would you recommend to go with the HMR Pro? Thanks!
We use a few models depending on the circumstances but the one in this video is the BRMS. I added an affiliate link to the description for you as well but here it is: amzn.to/3xWIlh2
I wonder why a 20`` barrel would love to see the BERGARA .308 with a 22`` and 24`` barrel for accuracy over 500 meters
Where’s part 2. We ready
I have the same rifle 308 just got it out of the box after having it for over a year. Looking for a scope. Why did you go with the high rings? I was thinking about medium rings because it has a adjustable cheek rest can go with high I suppose.
I went higher just in case I wanted to add a different optic with a larger objective lens in the future.
My HMR Pro shot 1 moa groups with most stuff out of the box, and my worst group was 3 MOA. I was a bit disappointed. After about 100 rounds it settled into just over half MOA before tuning my handloads.
I sent mine back because it was shooting 3 Moa regularly. They recut the chamber and it’s shooting .5-.75 Moa now. With all ammo. Customer service is pretty strong at Bergara.
Real impressive 1st groups I can't get that kind of accuracy out of the competing springfield waypoint 2020 308
It’s a great rifle. We have done everything with it at this point. Even took it elk hunting. Buying another Bergara in the next few weeks! Can’t beat the quality for the price. I also reached out to them for what I thought was a build issue but was just a false alarm. They paid to have the rifle sent back and inspected. Then sent it back to me. All in around 12 days. Top notch.
12:20 is a fantastic moment dry fire without any movement from him.
I have a very very small flinch usually that I’m working on getting rid of. I was surprised it’s not visible in the video! Definitely making progress.
@@UnprofessionalOutdoors not visible at all 😉
Are you still liking this rifle?
What happened to the other parts of the video?
Make a video on the wild hog jerky. I've always heard it was unsafe to eat that way, so I would be curious on how you do it.
Good idea. We’ve been filming the process but haven’t known where to put it. We could just make a standalone video, thanks for the feedback!
This rifle, B14 HMR, is on my list of ones to get or the PREMIER COMPETITION.
It’s a great rifle and they have great customer service.
super thx!
Fenomenaal day, I think the tree thinks otherwise ??!!
Where's part 2?! I vote for trophy hog. Im toying with 6.5cm but I also always come back to 308. I have 2 ruger american in 308....shoot fine at 800yds with cheap Monarch ammo
We’re about done shooting for the hog hunt. It will be up in the next week or so.
So if I have the HMR 308 then I need the 20 MOA #6 scope base? Thank you in advance!
You don’t need it unless you are shooting longer ranges and want to guarantee your scope won’t run out of elevation adjustment for large bullet drop.
Barrel length ?
I myself like the way the bipod is on "backwards" folding back down the rifle as opposed to folding forwards. It balances better when shooting off hand with it
" backwards". When hunting you may not have the chance to even use the bipod. No rule says you have to fold it forwards. Do it whatever way works for you and screw the so called experts.
Indeed. I think the hunting point you brought up is an important one. In many years of hunting with many different people, 9 times out of ten when I see a bipod it’s mounted like I mount them, and as you said it’s random wether or not you even get to use it.
I'm going with the regular B14 Hmr in 308 when the funds are 👍
Personally as one who has several HMRs, my personal favorite is the wilderness. Plus you can just add a trigger tech in it for $150 or less extra
@@dbeardsley0 why wilderness? Isn't it just upgrade camo stock, cerakote barrel and omni brake?
@@TheMadShredder Break, sniper grey cerakote, hand painted stock. Fluted bolt but it's cerakote and paint are higher quality to last forever out in the weather. Regular HMR is much more likely to wear or rust than the wilderness is. It also has better texture for grip vs b14
I wonder why they decided to put a 20" barrel on a .308 for hunting/match.
All the other calibers are 24"-26"
I’ve wondered the same, not really sure. I would have liked a 24 but the 20 shoots great and is not too long with a suppressor on which is a nice touch.
.308 ammo is a common NATO caliber. It's reliable and plentiful. Good choice.
Why’s the bi-pods backwards?
So the rifles more easily fit into our carriers in our atvs.
What price range is that ammo? Is it factory or reloaded ammo?
It’s just Federal factory hunting ammo. Nothing special about it. 👍
@@UnprofessionalOutdoors Shoots great! Awesome man!
Im sure you know this, but that bipod is on backwards. When shooting with a bipod its common practice to load the bipod.
If you were to do that with a reverse bipod it would fold on itself.
You do you, but it's one of those things that makes peope go "uh oh" instead of "subbed!"
Indeed. The Harris bipods have never given me a problem backwards, and we use them this way because of how I carry rifles in transit while hunting (and a few other reasons). 👍
For sure on the “subbed” comment haha. But when you spend as much time as we do carrying firearms around in various vehicles while actively hunting, this isn’t even considered backwards. It’s just another way to mount them that happens to fit a specific brand of gun rack better.
Also, now I really want an HMR pro.
They are wonderful. It might be slightly cheaper for some to buildout this rifle (ie: add the action and the trigger , etc) than it would be to buy the pro, but for me it’s worth every penny for it to come this way out of the box. I’ve owned everything from savage to Accuracy International bolt actions over the years, and this is one of my favorites. (This one I probably won’t sell )
What happen to more footage of this?
We eventually had to send the rifle back to bergara , and took the rifle on so many hunts that the footage we have for it got much more in depth than we ever imagined. We will be releasing everything we’ve found, from customer service and average group size to elk hunting and suppressors 👍
Nothing wrong with a .308. Got an HMR in .308 and 300prc
What sort of range do you think the 300PRC would be good for?
@@redrock425 It was designed as a sniper round to kill at 2000 yards and retain more energy, accuracy than 338 lapua
Nice choice on the 308! 6.5 is over hyped!
Thanks! Love 308. I am shooting this rifle regularly at 350 yards and it’s phenomenal. I don’t think I’d ever go much further than that as I’m primarily a hunter, and 308 fits the bill. But then again... who knows what rifles the future may bring ! Sometimes I get caliber ADD but I always end up back at 308.
I just purchased a .300 win mag Bergara for this elk season... can't wait to get it and sight it in! Keep smackin' those hogs!
Nice. Best of luck to you this season. Get em’ 👍
@@BigJohn505 should be a great gun for elk, ive taken 4 with a 308, and my buddy just killed a big ass cow with a 6.5.
300 should drop em hard, unless its a limited entry monster. They sometimes need a semi truck punch.
The ONLY difference in the action is the two piece bolt, everything else is identical except for the steel used, info comes directly from calling Bergara and asking😎👍
The steel used matters if you’re building a truly custom rifle, which I didn’t with this lol. We now have 2 other bergaras without their higher end actions, and all I can attest to is that the difference isn’t subtle. The premier is night and day smoother/more solid. That said, it’s hard to beat a baseline tikka. We been rockin and rollin tikkas with thermions on them lately.
20 inch barrel ?
Yes
Can't wait to get mine back from the gunn company
What did you send yours back for?
Lol....turn the dang bipod around.
😀 Never! That’s how we run all of our harris bipods because of the velcro straps in our Atv. Interesting nobody has ever commented on it in the our old M1A video but it certainly bothers people in this one. In part 2 I’m going to mount 4 of them backwards all over the rifle.
Makes ya 4 times a amateur.
308 is a mans rifle, dont worry about those girly
shooters :D
Love the 308. Always will. I don’t care what anyone says.
Bipod is on backward
👍intended
Bipods on backwards.
Indeed. We put them that way on purpose because of where the straps are in on our hunting vehicles. 👍
Live trees are not target stand!
i come to see your video because i was curious about people who choice 308 , and i was suprised you look like humain :p
Safest way is going GMX .308 lol
I know it's your property, but if it were mine... I wouldn't shoot living trees.
It’s dying and getting cutdown this winter.
Glad to see this comment and the reply. A chainsaw hits that metal and is launched towards the sawyer!
That whole setup was 1700
No, the rifle is around that much without a rail or scope.
IL take a 308 over 6 5
You should have gotten a 6.5 😂
We have 6.5s. Creedmore Grendel and Prc. We also guide hog hunts, most shots being at around 200 yards. Heavier 308 loads are better for large hogs at that range than anything creedmore can table. Grendels are all AR platform which we didn’t want to make a video about. And the PRC is too darn pricey, however the 6.5 Prc is currently our favorite and we’re doing a video on that rifle, as well as a tikka 300 win.
I hate to say it but 1.2 and ~0.7 MOA 3-shot groups are far from impressive. I'd actually be angry if I got a rifle that shot this poorly. Having your bipod on backwards probably isn't helping though.
Indeed. I Eventually sent it back to them and it failed their accuracy test. They fixed me up and it’s shooting .4-.6 now. Their warranty and customer service is top notch.
@@UnprofessionalOutdoors Glad to hear it. I have an HMR in 308 that is shooting similarly terrible groups. I just sent it back a few days ago. Anyway, given the inconvenience of having to send my rifle back and almost certainly wait over a month or more, I would never purchase another Bergara product. I shouldn't be their QC process.
@@michaelhill6451 we’re mostly in the same camp. We’ve purchased two tikkas since and they shoot about the same but don’t need to be sent back.
@@UnprofessionalOutdoors Same here. About a year after I bought my Bergara I got a Tikka CTR that shoots on average just under 0.5 MOA 5-shot groups and did so out of the box. That definitely made the Bergara no fun at all to shoot. I got tired of wasting my time and ammo trying to sort out what was wrong with the Bergara and just sent it back to get them to look at it. In most reviews I see of the B-14 in 308, the 5-shot groups are between 1.5-2 MOA for the most part.
I honestly wonder if they just use their customers as QC or if they keep a batch of rifles that are actually shooters on hand as replacements if someone complains. I doubt most people go through the hassle of returning their guns even if they aren't shooting well.
Why are you wearing a jacket? 🙄
Because I filmed parts of this during the end of our last cool front in Texas. And it was raining off and on.
@@UnprofessionalOutdoors here in Colorado, we don't use jackets until it starts snowing 🥶😂😕
I put a jacket on when it hits 50 lol. Y’all are built different up there. I have snowboarded a lot in Colorado and I feel like I’m going to freeze to death every time. While you guys pass me in short sleeve shirts.
Edit : I honestly probably put a jacket on at 60 or lower. 95+ and I’m happy.
Us Texas Boys use jackets the minute it hits 70s
Lol 308
Blah blah blah blah blah 10 minutes to finally Cena shot
