I mean, why does expensive cables exist when they just have to do a passive conversion? It's a midi signal from a 5-prong DIN cable into USB. It's serial to serial. It's standardized too, so there's no guesswork.
@@sui604 There's a USB standard for carrying midi signals, is there not? Even if you have to do something to the signal, it should be completely trivial.
Exactly I don't understand if it's midi to USB why some cables work on my microkorg and some don't, apparently the only one that works on this keyboard is a Roland um1 midi to USB which is over 40 quid very frustrating
I bought a different cheapo and while connection was easy, after a few bars of monophonic notes from my Yamaha V50 to Win 10 PC with Reaper, I get eternally hanging notes that just build upon every subsequent note I play. I thought it was my computer hanging but now thinking it's the interface. I've just ordered an interface box with good reviews (Nektar). Does my thinking it's due to a cheap cable interface seem reasonable. Hate throwing good money into bad.
are you running the midi thru a Thunderbolt connected interface? How well do usb 2 Usb 3 and usb 3.2 work without thunderbolt connectivity? Is the latency good enough to play along with prerecorded tracks? What is a good Midi usb 3 or 3.2 interface?
Latency for usb at 125 polls/sec (which is default for most usb equipment) is at worst 8 milliseconds aka 8/1000 of a second. Barely noticeable but not entirely neglectable.
I just saw these on amazon so searched and found your video! Thanks bud, will defo try this out!

it's not a passive conversion - look up the details of USB protocol

How did the other cable turn out?
I experiencing the same issue and would appreciate your feedback
Because I'm considering getting another midi cable
Great Demo have you found a multi-midi device cords?
I haven't tried one, I may take a look
This is the only $10 usb midi cable that works with sysex. Buy two!
Can you hear the audio from the synth keyboard too or you still have to use a audio interface for that?
You still need an audio interface

It is running through a USB 3 interface. I don't think the USB side will introduce much latency.
@@IanDixonTDL thank you

what is the name of the midi interface(cable)??
The five prong cable is a DIN type. (The other one is called USB-A, but I'm just being cheeky.)
I have a microkorg and i bought pretty cheap midi usb cables because i wanted to download a sound pack but it wouldn't take it.
The ones I tested have worked ok so far.
no sound my frirnds
