You’re so helpful and informative thankyou :))
Good video very informative, learned a few things, keep the videos coming, when you mentioned commodore 64 man that took me back quite a bit those where the day's....LoL..thanks for the video bud
Thanks, I always interested in anything electronic.
You had me at "Obsolete but neat".
I've somewhat taken it upon myself to fix old PC/Macs, LED HDTVs, Gaming consoles, ect...
My side hustle is audio recording, and my current main DAW computer is a 2013 21.5" iMac (i7-4770 Quad core CPU, 258gb PCI NVME SSD, 16gb ram, 1tb SSD, GTX 750M GPU)
that I got "as is/parts only" for just $50!
I've also just embarked on an acoustic to electric drum conversion using an old Roland TD-6V module, an early 90's era Mapex Mars series drum kit, Remo Silent Stroke mesh heads, Ddrum Redshot triggers, and Lemon cymbals! So far after some tweaking it's been going great! Although I am now pondering using a MIDI to USB adapter and/or dedicated MIDI payback device so I don't have to lug my Focusrite 18i8 around for gigs?
I think this may just do the trick temporarily till I invest in something more substantial like one of iConnectivity's MIDI playback units.
Thanks!
Cheers!
Gracias mi amigo, greatings from Colombia
Thanks I just ordered it. Scored a yamaha digital piano which had some of the case plastic melted for some reason. It plays perfectly but looks ghetto, Now I will use this chord and an ancient laptop I found in a dumpster dive with that very program to interface. I am also going to use a big screen tv which happens to have dropped a few pixels as a pdf monitor to read sheet music on. For some reason the free sheet music I find is of the photo paged variety and needs to be blown way up to read it easier and this used monitor will do the trick. Still looking for a cheap or free usb 10 key pad to cannibalize into a pedal page turner to flip the sheet music with.
Robbie please help I'm looking for that cable here in south Africa, but it is not available
Hi I'll like to know that how do i stop an auto sustain pedal if i connected this cable with Reason?
Robbie I have a Yamaha PSR-E443 Keyboard 🎹 that has a USB to HOST connection & a 2007 Akai MPD24 drum 🥁 pad machine that has a midi out just in case if ever get a 5pin Midi sound module & it has the exact same USB 2.0 Type A Male to Type B Male connection as my 2014 Yamaha key Keyboard & I had just got a 2012 MacBook pro & a Focusrite Scarlett 3rd Generation Audio interface & I need to know exactly how I can connect both of them to my Mac?
I got note delay using reason program not sure whats the problem when press keys
Sorry if I missed you mentioning it already, but can this also be used as a simple MIDI cable (without using the USB)?
I have 2 MIDI devices and need a new cable to connect to each other. I could just re-buy a simple MIDI cable, but saw this USB/MIDI cable. The USB/MIDI cable would allow me to attach to a computer when I want to and I wouldn't have to buy 2 cables (this one AND a MIDI cable).
Can I use Arduino Uno to make Midi working with application's phone like fl studio mobile
what brand is it? does it also work on Windows 10?
2020 and am here watch to buy one
great info!
Glad it was helpful! I wish I had music talent :)
your grandmother knew her stuff, i remember the roland keyboard adverts in the 1980s.
with oscar peterson, playing one.👈👺😒👏
I bought this very same cable it on and off. This is really
Cool!..🤟
Thank you. Really helpful. I am searching for a (cheaper) way for older keyboard an organs with midi for my father.
He has a android tablet .
Yeah if your Android tablet has a standard USB if not just get an adapter that's what I did for mine

how do i connect my roland pc 180 to laptop? can some one help me.
Hello. I have the same cord that you have. I plugged the IN into the OUT on my Keybourd and the USB into my computer and nothing happened. My computer made sound that something was plugged in but it does not show up as an option in ADUACITY. Any help would be awesome. Thank you for the video BTW.
Did you try LMMS?
Does it work well with pitch bend midi messages? Thanks a lot!
what does that program do?
@@RobbieStrike "pitch bend" is not a program but one of that wheels the synths have that you can play with the pitch of a note in real time.
Robbie, I am using the same module but I only see the red light on, the green light is never on. I am using Anvil Studio on Windows and it says that it is sending output to MIDI but no sound is heard. If I press the keys on the keyboard, nothing happens.
it could be a setting in the software some ware. That is what i find with LMMS
I got this cable for my old electric keyboard to use as a MIDI on Fl studio, but I'm not getting any sound through my computer. The red button is lit up where it says MIDI, but the in and out lights are off. I don't know what to do. Think I'll have to buy a different cable. :(
Try a different program?
I'll try ableton I guess.
@@SignedWhatever Did the cable work with Ableton Live?
@@juliusdaviesd
No :(
100% same issue with me. It does not sync to lmms software. The red light was always on midi.
Can I record music play on keyboard to DAW in midi formate by using this Midi to Usb cable ?
Yes with the right Software. LMMS. or Google what other Midi software that is out there!
I got one of these have found an bug tho with the paticla keyboard that I have for some reason it will not pickup 2-3 of the keys all in an group, on garage band or logic was setting it up for my nefew I think it mihgt be the device more than anything I guess will look at getting an more expencive one to see if that solves the issue
Hey, does getting the more expensive one work out for you? I'm experiencing kind of same issues.
Ya get what ya pay for so yep do not get these useless knock offs @@A145
@@A145I'm really hoping someone answers your question because I'm experiencing the same thing
could i use this to hook up a Kawai GM Sound Module XC-3 to a Mac?
Don't have a Mac. But for a few bucks I would give it a try. If you have $$$ for a Mac then $5 is worth a try!
Hello can i only use the midi out port with the midi in of the cable to transfer notes to the piano without need to use the midi in port?
I think you can I set both individually in the program I use for that LMMS!
@@RobbieStrike thanks so much
Can I use this cable in yamha 275 for recording studio as midi keyboard
If the keybord has 2 midi ports.. Yes
Sorry, but it doesn't work completely for me! Sometimes a voice or two sounds, but it doesn’t work the way it should. My digital piano name: Yamaha P 35. My laptop name: MacBook Pro 16'. Please help me!
It works in Linux.
Will this work on a machine studio I'm trying to use my sampler input I miss badly 😢
yeah
Hey i got the same midi cable as u got and i cant figure out why it isnt working for me
first of all i got 1 red light above where its worte down midi and the light of the out or the in in the cable are off
my pc detect the cable and all but its like its not detecting the sound of the piano so i cant record
need help!!!!!!!!!!!
are you using LMMS?
I go to the instrument and right click to midi and select the midi out. Sometimes there is a few of them so I keep selecting until I hear noise on the keyboard for the midi out.
It is fun for getting midi files online and then playing them on my old 1980's keybord!
Also I have had them not show up on the computer. Tried a different USB port. Rebooted and it worked!
Hello Friend. Why doesn't my USB MIDI cable pick Up the drum sound of my e-drums? Can you help troubleshoot? I've got it connected but It picks Up on my DAW the outside sound not the music..
So it sounds like it's connected so it's doing something in your software. So that's telling us that it is connected but it's maybe the software setting somewhere which program are you using?
Oh so cool that you're here on line. Thank you kindly. Yes. I'm using Audacity. And actually from browsing a bit i think Audacity doesn't support MIDI. Maybe thats my prob. Do you know any free DAW software i could try instead for e-drums?
Great video! I have bought a similar MIDI to usb cable for my YAMAHA PSR e303 synthesizer and a desktop running 32 bit Windows 7. The DAW installed is LMMS VERSION 1.2.2.
My problem is that , when I press a key on the Syntheziser, I have to wait for 4 to 5 seconds before I could press another key ! I have to wait till sound of the first key dies down. It takes a long time for this to happen! Am I missing any settings in LMMS or windows 7 or anywhere else?
Can any one suggest a solution ? Is this cable itself bad ?
I would like to try it in Linux and see if it happens there! could be a windows driver problem
@@RobbieStrike Ok Sir!
I tried to update driver for "USB composite device" , but windows declares that the driver is most up-to-date and is working properly. I tried to run LMMS in the same PC but on Windows XP on another Hard Disk .(The box of the cable says that it is suitable for XP ) . I am thinking of getting the cable exchanged from the shop keeper. On the interface in between the cable, there are three LEDs. One is POWER ON. It lights up immediately inserting USB end into the pc. The other in the middle is BLUE. It starts blinking immediately on inserting MIDI IN of the cable into MIDI OUT of the keyboard. Third led never becomes ON or never blinks. It is located near the USB side of the cable. But, on inserting the cable into PC, the DEVICE MANAGER OF CONTROL PANEL OF WINDOWS 7 shows additional line "USB COMPOSITE DEVICE". So, PC is detecting the cable.
Any further suggestions?
I am posting this reply to my own question because I have found out something which will benefit others. I came across a lot of youtube videos blaming this type of cheap cable. But I want to share a good news that this cable also works ! There is free program available on internet for monitoring the MIDI data going through this cable. It is called "midiview" . On running this program I found that there was no KEY OFF signal coming from keyboard to PC. Therefore, previous key either used to keep playing or did not allow next key to play. Suspecting the keyboard itself, I tried to go into set up of YAMAHA PSR E303. For some reasons, I could not enter set up menu to test MIDI port. But I noticed that selecting DUAL instrument in the keyboard solved all problems. ( I do not know why, may be it is a fault in my YAMAHA keybaord ). I do not have access to another YAMAHA keyboard to confirm this.
I hope this post will help all those facing similar problem. I am happy with this cheap interface.
@@yashwantchiplonkar9040 Thanks for this i also have the same problem with a Yamaha EZ-150
I tried to connect it to fl studio mobile on my Android but it doesn't work..what do I need to do??
most of them are just half assembled and wrong wired, just return it as fast as you can and get an a little more expensive/quality interface :(
I have this one and keep getting annoying hanging notes for some reason, can't figure out how to fix this
yep same
Have y'all figured what the issue is?
Did you try a different midi cable?
I have the same exact cord but I'm having problems with mine. The midi light turns and so does the Input light. but my output just won't connect whatsoever. So every time i play a note, it will keep going, going, and going. i don't know if my cord is broken or if it is my keyboard.
Do you have another keyboard you can try out
I do not
@@allfornothing7407 I've tried it on my hoarder friends keyboard they have like three or four of them. Not in Ontario are you?
No, I am not.
I'm still MIDI illiterate. Can anyone give me a straight answer on the MIDI connections, using the generic USB/MIDI adapter (simple cheap one as in this video). I want to know how I would connect it to my PC (to use the Mountain utilities editor for the Behringer FCB 1010 foot switch), plus the foot switch itself, and from the foot switch to my Korg Kronos. I want to just send commands to the Kronos, using the FBC 1010 switches, ultimately. I need to know the MIDI IN and OUT for the adapter and also the cables from the foot switch to the Kronos. I Know the adapter connects to the foot switch, but there is only the IN and OUT on the FBC 1010. The Kronos has both plus a "Through" port. So how would the routing go? I know it's probably simple for all of you, please help. 😁
I didn't even think of that but yeah there's many drums and switches and all sorts of things that you can plug a midi into
Apparently it doesn’t allow to play chords. That true?
I don't know what a chord is. But it can make the keyboard play the midi files with the Keyboards instruments!
it doesnt work for me .... I can only can hit one not then I must wait for 2 sec for another not to hit, any suggestion ?
Could be your keyboard could be the USB adapter. May not be working properly. Are you able to try it on another computer or a tablet computer
I've got the same problem. Maybe I need to buy more expensive one by Roland
I sampled this 10:34 thanks
did you just sample the "unurumfumph" part? I want to hear it!
Is it compatible with windows 8?
Probably if you get the right driver!. But I recommend using Linux on older computers! ua-cam.com/video/3aGEWEXTRQI/v-deo.html
What about latency?
It dose not seem to have a problem when I use it
Dosent work with catalina on a mac!
I use Linux in this video!
So it doesnt work on windows 10?
Probably needs some driver program, Got Virus from those that is why I use Linux now!
@@RobbieStrike ok thanks!

It does not work with the yamaha p35 digital piano
using what program? Try a different USB port!

The cable is trash. Red light is on but the green light doesn't blink for input.
It happened exactly the same with mine. It never worked
A tablets not a computer. i doubt hacker use tablets it's like a glorified phone.
There is a computer processor chip in a phone and tablet!
A tablet IS a computer, and so are smartphones. They fit the dictionary definition of one and it's possible for hackers to use them.
