The center display cons you mentioned are easily fixed with software / firmware update. They can change the verticle wf display or let u add your logo / skin. The fact that there is a screen is there makes it so.
12:00 VDJ offers stems integration with the extra EQs on any 4-channel controller. I can use the eqs not used on channels 3 and 4 for complete stems control. And this works on any 4-channel controller. It gives you full control (levels and all). I have a Roland DJ808 that's labeled "Serato." VDJ offers better stems integration on my controller, labeled "Serato," than Serato. With Serato, you can't map the EQs (or at least I can't) to be used as with stems to manipulate the stems. I had a choice, purchase this unit to have the levels mapped on the hardware or keep my controller and use VDJ.
Let's be honest folks - who really uses 4 channels live? Find the Rev7 is definitely the better choice: - better effect display - much easier to read - motorized platters - extra 4 buttons above the platters, with 4-way matrix - can be optimally mapped for stems - Display in jog with 4 !! different views - Always keep an eye on the 2nd waveform in the display of the opposite one - great sounding Pioneer effects
I do. I like mixing stems, and with 2 decks dedicated to the same track, it makes mashups a breeeeze. There's things you can do with 4 that you just can't with 2.
I actually like what Rane has done here. the controller isn’t perfect, but I like the size, the stems integration is next level and 4 channels with paddles is a big plus for me. I agree with you on the platters and the screen sizes but overall I think they’ve got a good controller here. Pioneer has been lagging far behind. The rev 7 is a nice controller but everything else in their line up is out dated. The FLX whatever is junk. The SX3 is beyond out dated. And the 1000 SRT I just can’t stand the loop controls. I think for 2023 pioneer needs a major update to all its models.
That's mybit I hear what ya saying n like you pointed I'm now leaning to the Rane 4 but only because the FLX10 is mainly recordbox so no serato pad assignments but other than that the FLX10 is no joke the creative stuff you can do is serious . I guess it's a choice of if ya a turntablist or a creative ?
I was 100% on board when I heard about this controller. I thought the whole point of the ranes were to have spinning platters. I feel like they missed a huge opportunity. There's not much that sets it apart from any other controller
There are a few features that set it apart from other controllers, BUT I have to agree. They missed the boat on the platters. Should have been motorized. It will have sell but they could have cornered the market for a few years if they had spinning platters. Nick was also right about the other cons. I don't know why they didn't put reverb as one of the main EFX on the controller, and that screen is way to small.
It also has dedicated instrumental and acapella buttons If you use the parameter. The left side is acapella and the right side is instrumental. So you have that dedicated buttons the pads and the split. Also when you hit the split you could bring the instrumental fader down who are the acapella like you show . But you can also scratch over them and when you stop scratching it sync back on the beat perfect.
I love the dots on the platter design. Looks great and flirts with the classic look of Technics. I have big issues with all controllers on the market. RANE Four is my favourite controller. My only issue is the quality of the microphone amp, but I've heard the lastest batch has fixed that as well.
On the feet to give it some elevation, I think its a good idea for those of use using a stand...you can't do that with most of the other controllers out there
Don’t mean to sound bias here, and I think there’s a lot of great controllers out there but the DDJ 1000SRT, is in my opinion the goat. The work flow and versatility is A1
Thank you for this video. Funny thing, the full screen image you provided gives me almost the perfect real-life perspective on my 40” smart TV. I started air spinnin’ like it was in front of me and I think the oled screen might be a bit small as you mention. Might wait for a spinning platters version.
The biggest con is when people have to go and buy another computer that can work with stems,I think Serato has to do something otherwise that alone will slow down the sale of this controller.
Will the Rane Four support DVS? Have heard nothing or seen anything regarding that. If can’t connect t-tables or cdjs and control Serato then this isn’t a SRT competitor at all. I see it has phone/line connections but what if that’s only for standalone mixing?
Thanks for the review man! I’m looking to upgrade from my Pioneer DDJ-SX2. Are the jog wheel controls gonna be similar to that? Or should I look at the FLX10?
This version is not the final one, so they might change sum stuff like the reverb not being on the FX section. Yet the dots i couldn't care less and I'm a vinyl dj. Don't get how this is so irritates every vinyl dj? As long as they get you traction when adjusting the song I'm good with it. But yes the FX screen is small.
Nick, Great Review!!! What's your take on the Pioneer Rev 7 w/ motorized platter, or the Rain 4. If price range is close between these two controllers, what would you buy?
Finally someone is speaking sense about this mixer. Disappointed thou. Lets forget about the Stems button included ... anything aside from that is a usual thing , this Is just like an advanced DDJ1000 SRT.
So Nick, I love your channel and personality and respect your talent. My kids are out of the house, and I want to get started on the DJ life ( I was a shitty little DJ before) . I recently invested in Bose tops and Subs to help out with my Neices wedding. I am a video editor for my day job. I bought and returned a NuMark MixStream Pro because the interface was tiny and I just didn't like it. If I decide to get into this for the long haul and eventually have turntables with Stem. Where do I start with software and a controller out. Sd I just us my laptop with Serato Pro?
i was thinking exactly the same before i found this video, i was looking for videos to show me how this controller looks like and was so disappointed when i found out about no motorized platters and also that it looks like my pioneer srt 1000 that i had for years and wanted to upgrade and was thinking to get this new RANE controller but after i watched this video i'm not buying it, so i hope they come out with a new model soon with motorized platter and stems
I’m thinking Rane 1 sales were softer than anticipated and they had lots of contracted fab on the platters so someone there said “fuck it….paint’em black and throw the on the 4.”

The platters slow down on rev7 or Rane one but the reason for these dots in static platters like this is called “mold”. These are probably remolded from denon moving platters or whatever… and also makes them “look” as regular turntables and Rane not only target “pro turntable” but also open format where the need to “feel” like the real deal. Cheese? Revenue…
I would rather buy this controller than the Rane One, but I can't get over the fact it doesn't have motorized platter. Otherwise, it would be a done deal! I guess I'll wait until they come out with their next version of the controller with, hopefully, motorized platters.
This is seriously lacking. Good points Nick, the turntable circle design is dumb for non-moving platters, no reverb and worst of all it doesn''t have tension knobs like on the 1000 & 1000SRT to tighten or loosen the jog wheels for smoother pull backs & scratching, major miss there RANE. Yea i agree, probably some nerdy musical beat pad producers put all those dumb effects on it too. This is like an SX2, but with 4 channels & ugly "not for pro djs" knobs. They put these mini mixer knobs that don't help djs in low light, come on RANE, next time send me a prototype to help you guys get it right, big money loss here. -Mike Beats
Great video!... Another big miss is individual screens for the fx buttons... 6 assignable buttons for 22 fxs and can't see what's where at a glance, after spoiling me with screens for the pads. Nice piece of hardware though but I agree they didn''t think it through. Just like the SC Live 2 & 4 they're rethinking the price point, before releasing it, no sense repeating that embarassment Denon made.
So with you on the IEC power and having Reverb, no Echo! Here's an idea for the guys at Inmusic: Rane controller running on the Engine platform (Rane vs. Denon DJ)...that might bring me to the Rane side!
You're spot on with what you said about controller. MY OPINION, I get the hype about the controller especially the Stems feature on it, but I wonder (and maybe its just me) how many people on the fly is really going to use it on a live/wedding gigs. The controller to me is just too busy and compact. I wish Rane made the controller a lot bigger, but I could understand they're competing with the Pioneer DDJ 1000srt
Hi Nick - after much research i finally purchased a FLX 10 and think i made a smart decision. Thank You for the pros and cons. I was oaky with strobe dots Lol - but the screens in jogs does not display artwork and logos !! The effects issue - pioneer is better for sure. And I really dont think I’ll ever need 4 stems just 3 is okay . Mobile Dj and wedding Dj mostly . Again your comedy also makes it funny you missed your stand up comedian calling Ha Ha
Soooo am I the only one thinking that Pioneer will do what Pioneer does and release a DDJ-REV11 with some of these features done in a Pioneer way? It just seems logical to me.
Dude you had me rolling 🤣 😂 but it's a fire 🔥 controller with game changing stems features.. but the jogs will make it or brake it.. I really like the 1000/cdj jogs.. but battle mixers will all need 4 upfaders with stems split from now on.

Nobody can do cool stuff on the fly with that. For 2000 bugs that all is a no go! Sorry Rane, stem control on the Rane 4 is a cool feature but can't compensate all the cons at that price range.

Keep the other 2 channels and give me 10 inch Platters instead!!!!! only like 10% of DJs use 4 channels! Why do they keep making these 4 channel controllers??? Give me a me a DDJ-800 with 10 inch platters with Rev7 Mixer layout and paddle effects! THATS ALL WE NEED!!!!
I'm an old sack of shit- the screen is definitely too small!
SAME Shit. Too much mini butons effects and functions small and smaller to find and push fast, This burns the eyes n mind, is like for music/ song producer studio type dj.
Who is going to make a BETTER CONTROLLER for The WORKING DJS ?
-ASK THE DJS in about 5 hour work how will we like the buttoms to be placed and size functions we really need:
-How many times you need press cue buttom?
-How many times you need find songs
-How many times you need scroll carpets library etc
-How many times you need to scroll windows ( song carpets playlist sampler)
- Do we need a sampler volume?
-How many times do you need to open the window of sidelist.
-How much do we use scroll by BPM
by Artist, by album.etc
-Do you need a big display on bpm. Or many other info in micro size screen.
-FROM ALL THAT: How many times do you need EFFECTS OR EDITING A SONG WHILE YOU MIXING IN A 5 hour average event.?
-Also do you like wider and less dip controller or deeper and short wide?
LOL LOL LOL Im one of those MID LIFE CRISIS DJ's lol lol shytt small lol
