The one thing my setup is missing is a patch bay. I'm working on getting a custom one to make the setup even easier and I highly recommend you do the same!
Skip the patch bay, just get a slightly bigger case and add a second SLXD dual receiver. Especially where you're already have the distro and the extra mics, $850 and then you never have to carry anything extra. You can also get the SKB combo case that has a slanted open top for the mixer which will open up all the rack space for additional gear/storage. That's what I've been using, I put a rack drawer in with foam cutouts so I have storage for all the microphones, batteries and belt packs
Yes. Every rack should have a patch bay not only for ease in I/O access, but to protect expensive gear from jerked cables and wear and tear of repeated connecting/disconnecting. Connectors wear and get dirty. I took a very basic and simple building block or what I call a "Lego's" approach for my systems and those I advise as a technical consultant. 1) Base Racks - Mixer, Dual Receivers, UA844 Combiner, Furman, Patch Bay. Base rack is same for wedding or dance system so there's duplicity and instant backup. 2) Accessory Racks - Dual Receivers, Furman, Patch Bay, UA844 Combiner. Rack Mount everything, receivers in pairs, combiners in all racks. If you need 1 receiver/channel, you have two which gives you a spare. If you need 3 you have 4. If you need 5 you have 6 and so on. Always have a spare wireless channel as you never know when they want an extra mic or there could be a problem. If dance system rack has a problem, use the wedding rack for backup as they are identical and vice versa. Also, add Paddle Antenna's on tripod so you can setup behind the seating. Keep things redundant, lean and mean. Don't haul what you don't need, take what you do need and always have a full backup plan. Why I only use Prime Go for wedding ceremony music, if dance system controller dies, it's the backup and will get you paid at the reception. Laptop backs up Prime Go for ceremony music. Your setup sounds good Nick.
As a live sound engineer who now shoots weddings I believe you are the first dj I've heard of ringing out microphones. 👍👍👍 I would probably add sand bags to the speakers as I don't trust people. Lastly I know videographers are going to want direct outs of the music and vocals separate but this is definitely a solid set up! Great job 👏👏👏 Thanks for sharing.
Brother I usually worry about how close I am to the guests with my ceremony setup, this video eliminated that fear for me lol. You are right there, you might as well have had an invite. Great video!
I agree with you 100%. This is the path experience takes you down - if you're smart enough to listen - and always seeking to improve things nd step up to the next level - and not afraid to step out on your own and innovate.
If I was to start my DJ business today in 2924-25, I would focus on having a decent sound system for the reception and dance. However I would focus just as much thought and cash on building a high quality wireless and battery powered ceremony set up. In my humble opinion, the DJs who get the most wedding jobs at the higher rates are DJs who got an amazing sounding and looking ceremony system. This wireless system can be used indoors as well.
This video reminds me of an outdoor set up where there was spiders in the flowers and mulch, bees made a nest in the retaining wall. Then you have bugs and spiders crawling in your powered speakers and plastic totes. Mayfly season when they end up in the clear desktop computer case attracted to the led lights. In this industry always obstacles have to over come and conquer 😂
Been using the Wave 8's every sense they came out, Game changers. I use two QLDX's lapels on every ceremony with a power source like the Jackery. Two speakers is the ONLY way to do ceremonies, Not one speaker blasting from one side. Two lapel mics also gives you a backup. I do scrim my speaker stands in black or white
I've always felt that visually it makes the most sense to setup behind the last row of seating. "Out of sight, out of mind" helps guests place more focus on the ceremony, in my opinion.
I try and be out of the way as well. But sometimes you gotta sit next to guests like I did here. Setting up in the back is terrible for feedback, and sound in general. The guests in the back get the best sound, and all the important guests sit up front!
@@NickSpinelli I meant you could sit in the back but still leave your speakers where they are. I agree, speakers placed in the back is a pretty terrible idea.
Nice ceremony rig Nick! I purchased a single EV Everse 8 this year to jump into the battery game. I also bought the RE3 mic alongside it so everything is 100% battery powered. I only do this as a hobby so I wanted something super simple to transport and setup/tear down as often its just me at gigs. I have a shelf that I mount to the speaker stand and plop my Macbook on that and use that with Djay Pro for my ceremonies. Not as elaborate as yours but it gets the job done and it takes about 3 minutes between setup and music playing and everything combined weighs about 25 lbs.
@@NickSpinelli can we do a Jackery 500. Would that still work? Or Do we really need the 1000.? This will be used mainly just for ceremonies. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Beautiful setup. I’d go with Soundboks speakers instead because they have their own frequency. Also it’s best to scan the mic when majority of the guests are there. Never scan to an empty area.
As long as your mics aren't in the wifi bands you'll be fine. you want to be setup and bullet proof before single guest arrives, not setting up your mics with guests present. room full of people you're going to see lots of RF noise in the 2.4 and the LTE / 5G bands, but most wireless mics are far away from those frequencies, unless you're like me and still running "grey band" wireless that you should have replaced ten years ago!
I feel like I do a ton for ceremonies, and if I'm honest-I love it. I power my SLX-Ds with an Anker 250W battery bank, using USB-C to barrel jack cables in 20V from a company called Adafruit. Fits in the 2U drawer in my 4U rack, along with a simple Yamaha AG06 going out [also powered by usb-c to usb a cable going into the Anker]. No Jackery or other heavy power source! If anything happens, my OHSHIT backup is an SM58 directly into my speaker via the Sennheiser xsw wireless xlr's. I'm only listing all this because I wish someone else would have when I was looking for help! Cheers!
Great video as always! I love that you started with the disclaimer that this is not the easy and cheap way. It is OK to do work to make it right. Superbowl, right? to You sold me on the TouchMix 8 with the feedback wizard! I also use 2 speakers, I have been using a pair of the LD Maui 5 Go speakers for a few years now with a Sennheiser IEM to send to them. When the couple are doing their own personally written vows I out a mic on the bride as well. I have thigh strap for the body pack and the mic runs inside the dress up to the neckline. I show the MOH how to put it on her because I don't like getting slapped. This way we can hear the bride loud and clear and no one can see the mic. Totally hidden.
Great Video Nick, as usual. We use the SLX-D series as well but have the DUAL kits and the front mount 1/2 wave antennae system but no distro. I may look into that option and the QSC Touchmix as well. I don't use CDs anymore, but do use my DDJ SX2 as my ceremony controller though.
I was the very first DJ to offer ceremony sound, and I started doing that in order to support the audio for the videography we also started doing. It's so interesting that what I started many years ago has made its way over to places like the east coast. I would have setup differently from this.
To add about the speaker placement, always consider not having the speakers in the camera shots of the ceremony! Dope video sir as always and you have truly helped me in my dj journey!!
I love that you do more for your ceremonies. It drives me crazy the number of DJs that bring a single speaker and single mic and call it a day. This definitely gives me some ideas of options to tweak mine more. I use a Presonus because I wanted a single rack space option, but I'm thinking the TouchMix might give me more options.
I like this setup. That mixer is dope too and how it has that anti-feedback killer. Definitely will be my next mixer upgrade. These are some great gems that I will have to incorporate in to my setup. Good stuff my guy!
perfect setup. gonna have to research these speakers a lil more. I still wire speakers for ceremony, just because Im a lil paranoid. and YES, I cringe when watching other channels that have the speaker in the back of the room pointing towards the source. never made sense to me for the same reasons explained here. thanks for sharing.
Love this. Great video and nice use of the Wave8's. Excited to see your patch bay that you're adding since I'm also using a nearly identical setup with the SLX series.
Lean wit rock wit it. That speaker lean WAS a little sketch as you said. LOL 😂But if you’re certain it wasn’t gonna fall over, then go on with your bad self. Great video, love your set up. And I love the ring out on the touch mix.
Nice setup, I’ve never had good luck with lavelier mics, most wedding gigs I get are beach side or outside and wind noise is always an issue so I stay with hand held mics on stands with fuzzy covers
I need to get that chair. I have been a ceremony chair bandit for the last few years. I have been using the Everse 8 now for the last year with an iPad and Audix dual lav wireless mic set up for ceremony. I have been using that QSC Touchmix 16 for 6 years now both in my band and for wedding cocktail, dinner, and reception.
Hey man! What a useful video!! I appreciate that! Awesome set up. Love all that wireless gear you've got put together. That would be a total pleasure to use. (by the way, I always carry with me some shims i can use under tripod legs for outdoor events to keep tripods (and tables) level when the ground is uneven). None of your clients can possibly appreciate everything you've done and do to make their day perfect!
Great set up. Check out the Shure SLXD15. just picked that up for small ceremonies and it works great. I normally use ULXD mic's for bigger ceremonies. Yes, you are on point when you mentioned adjusting your frequencies so you don't feedback. This will definitely give you plenty of head room for volume to reduce feedback. That was a big issue I found when using the SLXD15 wireless transmitter and body pack. if you ever decide to change up your wireless mic's I would recommend the shure ULXD series. Tons of features, quality and a bit richer when using any of the shure mic's.
I love using my Everse 8 with an iPad. I need that chair as I have been a ceremony chair bandit for the last 2 years. I have the Touchmix 16 I love it. I would like to upgrade to the mic set up you have and need those mic wind covers for next season.
Hilarious bro!!! You have a career in stand up if this whole DJ thing doesn't work out lol!!! You literally sit next to a guest!!! I have been doing it all wrong. I use Everse 8 with Comica mics and setup the speaker in the back facing the couple. OOPs!! Thanks for the tips brother!!
I started using white gravity stands with everse 8s, I setup 4 for bigger ceremonies and works great! I still use xlr but everything is battery powered
Remember, setting them up in the back facing the mic will create more feedback, AND the most important people are up front. The people in the back are the least closest to the couple.
I use a Soundcraft UI16 in my ceremony rack. That allows me to control the mix and play my ceremony music from the iPad. I load my music on the usb and stick it in the Soundcraft UI16. All good to go.
Hey Nick. Great video....extremely informative!! I am in Arizona...the land of wedding ceremonies that take place at 4:30 in the afternoon in 100+ degree heat and blazing sun like you can't even imagine unless you've lived or giggled here. Will those Alpha-Theta 8 speakers hold up when the are sitting for an hour in direct sunlight?? Currently I use QSC K12.2 speakers for ceremonies. They can withstand the extreme temps here. I love the idea of battery powered speakers but the last thing I need is for them to overheat and quit right in the middle of the vows. Would love to get yours or anyone's thoughts. Thanks brother!!
Great video, NICK. I'm still nervous about the stand on the bushes. Looks like I need to revamp my ceremony setup again. I'm not sure i would sit down, I would be to nervous lol
Thanks for sharing this info! I know that those Wave 8 speakers use the 2.4 GHz spectrum which can be vulnerable to interference. Have you had any trouble with them at all? I ended up going with Shure PSM 300 wireless IEMs to transmit from the mixer to the speakers just to avoid this potential issue.
I get what you're saying about keeping the sound away from the cone, but I think you would've had better overall sound for that crowd with one speaker toward the back facing straight in from the side. It was such a narrow and long seating arrangement that it didn't really do much good to have one on each side in this case. With that being said, I always do a speaker on each side also when there's room to work with
Hey Nick, awesome video bro. Quick question on the antenna distro, did the half wave antennas you are using come with the wireless mics, the distro, or did you buy them separately?
Nick, I’m still new to DJing and still trying to figure it all out. On the power conditioner, do you use it for all you speakers, and light as well or is it just for the small stuff? I watch a lot of DJs and all have a power conditioner but now sure how to use it. Thanks for all the videos.
@@benmartinez2443 a power conditioner is just a fancy surge protector that tells you how much power is coming out of the outlet. You plug all your equipment into it, and when everything is turned on - you can see how much power you’re using and will get a warning if you’re going to blow a breaker.
Thank you, I would assume if you have all you equipment plugged into the power conditioner and then the power conditioner to the one outlet you need to make sure the one outlet is enough for your equipment. I’m always afraid that I’ll loose would if inonlu one one outlet. I try to use at least two or threeZ one for my laptop, mics and mixer, one for my sub and one for my tops.
00:03 This video demonstrates a robust wedding ceremony setup. 01:41 Setting up a six-space rack for wedding ceremony equipment. 03:17 Wireless setup flexibility with multiple receivers 04:51 Offering multiple mic options for a better wedding ceremony audio setup. 06:21 Using two speakers for better symmetrical sound 08:03 Setting up the speakers evenly and properly 09:41 Speaker placement is crucial to avoid feedback during ceremonies. 11:25 Using specific wind-blocking material for beach setup
Would be cool if the Touchmix was on a 1U slider so that you could pull it toward you, makes it easier to read the screen and adjust some of the controls without having to cock your head to the side.
My setup is very similar. I use a gator frameworks table on wheels so it travels well over grass. I really want to find a way to get a rack mount system with all terrain wheel so I can get rid of the need for a table all together.
I also got a custom case from Philly case for my command center based off your rec. game changer. They put xl casters on it for me for my few tent weddings.
How do you learn about all the technical side to all this high end gear? Like knowing what gear is needed for what situations and the technical aspects of wireless mics and mixer types.
Wooww.. Thank you for sare your ceremony setup. You not scare the wirless mic does'nt work on the huge space? for me there was a situation same place and the mic no working... However try. Back to cable mic. have you ever had a similar situation? Thank you and have many great ceremony and wedding party!
Never had a problem with this setup at all. But I have had issues with cheaper mics through the years. I recommend sticking with the wired mic until you can afford a robust mic setup like I have in this video. Not worth the risk.
Nick with the Wave 8 is does your microphone or Lav signal go to both speakers? On the EV 8 I just tested only the speaker with the microphone plugged into it worked the BT didnt share the audio from wireless mic to linked speaker. Also the EV 8 Speaker had alot of cut out in a large church room with only me in it. Any cut out issues with sonic link that you have experienced? Before I purchase a wave 8 really trying to avoid ceremony cut out.
So I purchased 2 wave eights after watching your video. I encountered issues with SonicLink, unfortunately. When I sent the transmitter a strong, continuous signal, SonicLink worked well. However, when I turned down the volume on my touch mix 16, the audio started to cut out. This won't work for my ceremonies for the simple fact that when the bride finishes her walk to the alter and I need to fade out the processional song, the song will noticeably cut in and out right at the end... almost like a gate is engaged. Did you experience this at all on your end? Anyway, It was impossible for me to pull off a smooth fade out even after spending 2 hours trying to fix the issue AND reading the manual lol. Maybe it's user error on my part, but I thought it worth mentioning so that other DJs are aware of this issue. Love your ceremony setup 👍

A djs dj!!!! Thanks, bro!
great video!
Great video! Does your Touchmix slide out of the mixer or is it Velcroed to the top of the power conditioner?
Love this!
your a funny guy brother, really enjoy your videos, keep up the good work, you don’t use RCF anymore?
I still use RCF for my main setup
@@NickSpinelli what subs do you use now?
Great video, NICK. I'm still nervous about the stand on the bushes. Looks like I need to revamp my ceremony setup again. I'm not sure i would sit down, I would be to nervous lol
They just better pay you big for that flawless set up
Holy shit the CDMIX3 is the first piece of gear I had access to back in '06. I feel seen.
The CD Mix 2… classic
With that being said, I always do a speaker on each side also when there's room to work with
Thank you
Hey Nick, awesome video bro. Quick question on the antenna distro, did the half wave antennas you are using come with the wireless mics, the distro, or did you buy them separately?
Had to buy them separately
THE INTRO HAS ME DYING LOL
Do you stream when you are playing music?
You said it looks like Joe Bidens pubes!!! Dude, im dying, lol 😆 😂 🤣 You said it so serious but just kept right on lmaooo

I recently bought the SLXD as well. Let me know I made the right decision.
Dude, you're Funny AF, lol
Would be cool if the Touchmix was on a 1U slider so that you could pull it toward you, makes it easier to read the screen and adjust some of the controls without having to cock your head to the side.
I have it setup like this on my main rig (video coming soon) - drawer wouldn’t fit in the 6 space rack.
so you changed the speaker position for the ceremony...good video mate..
This is great…I’m wondering if there are any alternatives for the feedback wizard feature for folks that don’t have the Qsc mixer …hmmm
7:29 - We really are living in the future!
Hi Nick what's the best cables to use for your set up.
Hey Nick, what are you using to secure the Touchmix. Shelf and Velcro? Special shelf? Talk to me.
@@gerrysiracusa9038 no shelf, it’s velcroed to my furman
Mr. Wireless is in the building guys
Love your ceremony setup 👍
tripod in the flowers is a lil sketch brotha lol. Otherwise, a fantastic video!
Do you use the rack for outside ceremonies and then bring it over for your DJ setup or do you have other mics for that?
@@markdavis8583 I have a completely different larger rack for my main rig. Video coming soon!
Tell me why a Dj insurance company ad came up right after you left that speaker at a sketch angle lol!
Does dual Everse 8 have that same speaker communication capability?
No
@@NickSpinelli Thanks
Hey Nick is that the QSC touch mix 8 or the QSC touch mix 16? Does the eight have the feedback feature? Thanks brother!
It’s the 8!
