I wouldn't worry. The Rane Four still has the new functions on the EQ with the latest updates. Individual EQ knobs now control Stems. So you have full analogue control using the EQ knobs from value 1-127 (zero to max) on Stems. The new Choppa effect is now on the Four as well. So that leaves the motorised jogs, enhanced displays and enhanced sliders and a couple more FX. I mean, how many FX do you really use? I use stutter, echo, echo out, filter, filter roll and that's basically it. All on the Four. I don't think I'd use the new slider FX. Already got enough going on! Unless you are a professional (I'm not) I really don't think this someone you necessarily need (but you might want - that's another story). Another plus, the Four is lighter. And no motorised jogs means less to go wrong as well.
I AM AN NS7II USER TOO! I think today might be the best day ever, but the only thing I am worried about is having multiple FX's on at once. That top row of FX with individual FX parameters was quite nice.
@@iamdjmus You can only stay on Windows 10 for so long. Numark ditched updating the drivers for mine so it's TOUGH. I love my NS7ii but the tech is getting old even though I have stems. I also have a fader showing signs of ghosting. I will keep mine for now, but I am very close to upgrading.
@@fredsouza9088 I will miss three FX's on at the same time, but two is more than sufficient enough. I am very close to upgrading. If my CH fader continues ghosting after I spray some contact cleaner I will consider the upgrade.
Thanks! Having the library on the platters is cool and FX on the faders is an interesting idea, but there is room for 4 rotary's and I would I prefer that. I feel we're going see some innovative stuff with split stems in coming hardware......
Make this a standalone with all this included AND the Prime 4+ wifi, streaming, actual 4 channels, 10in muti-touch screen and etc-etc features then I'll be in.... ❤❤❤. Until then, it's Prime 4+ for me.

I agree, that myself being a scratch dj, the metal jog wheels are nice, but most scratch djs prefer a battle style layout. My feeling is the pad and pitch placement on the rev 7 is much better, but the 4 channels, effects and stem features on the Performer are great. I hate reaching over performance pads to scratch on most controllers.
Thanks for the video Phil! Well, I’m interested in getting it that way I can also connect my DZ1200’s to 3&4 and have 4 spinning decks!!! Let’s see how it looks and how they would work together.
The only thing that I found was innovative was the ability to have the library view on the Jog wheel displays,, I have a Rane One and it’s midi mapped to my liking including the ability to switch from Traditional eq to Stems Eq at a touch of a button all running through my IPad Air on Algoriddim DJ software. I really don’t use any effect other than Echo and the odd Filter so all those effects (some of which didn’t sound too nice) are wasted for me,, Not to say it’s not suited for others of course.. I agree with you that a good controller should last you over 6-7 years. Thanks for the review though Phil,, Always as informative as ever
Nice review. I’m considering replacing my Rane 72 and 12s setup with this. Mainly because it’s Rane, 4 channels which I like to have for flexibility, has the moving platters, and is more compact. Thoughts?
This thing is great. I am not a turntablist, nor have I ever been one. I’ve simply been making trance/techno/breakbeat mixes in my garage since 2001. Back then, I bought the original CDJ-1000’s and, I was mixing with them right up until two weeks ago. I planned on upgrading by buying CDJ-3000’s and a new Pioneer mixer, however, after seeing this controller, I decided to hold off on the 3000’s for the time being. I bought this instead and love it. And, if you shut the motor off, it behaves like a CDJ behaves when vinyl mode on the CDJ is turned off. The best of both worlds. Like anything else, it takes some getting used to, especially if you’re use to nothing but Pioneer gear. But once this thing is learned inside and out, it may very well end up being my favorite piece of DJ gear, yet. I really like the creative options the Performer provides. Thanks for this video.
Hi....i just wanted to say that it would be so cool if rane came out with in all in one controllor so next time you talk with them put a bug in there ear as always keep up the good work....
So I literally found your channel today! Quite thorough! Got a question about the displays on this Performer - specifically in regard to your comparison of the Rane Four & FLX10. Having just binged all 3 videos including the comparison video and this one, I remember you saying (and I could be off) that the FLX10 was better for all of the info one could get from those displays. These Performer displays look larger than the ones on the Four which makes me hope that the information available has increased as well. Is that wishful thinking? Am I off?
NS7 users have been waiting for this day. I am hoping my work-flow won't change too much if I get this though. The layout is soooooo different than NS7.
One important question, at least for me, regarding the pitch bend...on the rev7 I found it quite hard to sync manually by touching the sides of the platters, slow down is no problem, but push forward/faster was difficult. I'm an old vinyl junkie and on the 1210s we had the spindle in the middle or we could slightly push the top of the vinyl or give it a smooth push at the metal on the side of the wheel if you know what I mean. Everyone had his own technique for it. I found it hard to get the feeling right in this regards on the rev 7, it was not as precise and forgiving as I was hoping for. I know we have the plus and minus buttons, they do their work and they do it good...but...it feels wrong to me to push a button to match the speed of my tracks. Is there a difference between the Performer and the Rev7? Is it "easier" and more precise on the Performer? 😬
This controller with virtualdj EZremix eq ch 3/4 for always available stems control for ch 1/2 is the actual best controller IMO. BUT, did they loosen the channel faders?
Hi Phil, great review! Maybe i missed it, but I don't think I heard you say anything about the weight. I was reading up on the weight and saw that its 28lbs which is a bit heavy, especially when you add it to a case. That might be a deal breaker for me, especially since I already have the Rane 4
I got motorized platters in the Rane one so the big decision for me is going from a 2 channel controller to a 4 channel controller. I just think I’ll be able to get more out of it on 4 decks
A question I have after watching this review and your review of the Four (though maybe I just missed the answer): Are the channel FX on the Performer limited in the way the Four’s are? Specifically what you referred to around the 7 : 40 mark in your Four review. Are they controlling Serato FX? Can you only use filter on decks 3 & 4 when not plugged into a laptop? Always appreciate your reviews!! Thank you!
Great review, but I have to disagree with you on one thing, the use of the stem feature is implemented better and easier to pull off on the Rane than the flx10.
Is the display the same size as the rane four ones? I think Rane four has 2" displays. Just got a Rane Four a week ago to pair with a Rane 12 and PLX1000 and love the setup. One of my gripes is the lack of customization of the display layout. You can only change time elapsed and remove needle marker. I would like more layout options. Hope they release a new firmware to enable more
I think if it was standalone with usb computer connection to a serato, vdj then it would be a buy for me me. Ima ns7ii user and i would prefer motorized platters with a screen like the prime 4
You are old vinyl DJ, whats your take on this smaller moving platters compared to the ”real sized” like on Rane12 or Crss12? If it’s not the same feeling then you might aswell try to learn use non-moving platters? But I really feel uncomfortable on plain controllers atm compared to my 12” moving platter. @@digitaldjtips Indeed. I'm new to all this so viewing my Serato account was a grim experience. The so-called "Rewards" section is a bait and switch. It has numerous offers of "free" content (sound packs, etc) but they require one to sign up to a "free trial" of a paid subscription service.
YES PHIL! Would love to hear what in your opinion the ultimate controller would be for a washed out has been ex DJ teaching! his son how to mix! The best controller in your opinion! Asking for a friend
I'm tempted to get the Rane One but due to its age I'm worried there'll be an updated version of it released in the near future. I don't wish to be spending circa £1100 if there's a new model around the corner! Any rumours of Rane planning to release a revised model?
I know this is a pie-in-the-sky dream, but it would be nice if they would release a retrofit kit for us techy folks who already have the Rane Four. (I know, I know, that would cut down on profit margins...) Still... I already have moving platters on the 12's so no go for me just for moving platters (unless my Four takes a dump post-warranty).
Phil, Can you Just ask Them why they are not releasing a stand alone motorized controller? At Some point it gets frustrating with the games they are playing, given that so many people are asking for it.
.......still waiting on Pioneer to release a proper Spinning Platers unit for Rekordbox already.. x2 CRX12's and a S7 double the price of this and half the features. Rev7 kinda shoe horned Rekordbox to work with it but similar price with x2 less Decks and less features. Don't get me started on their Stems as well LOL.
I want a controller that will get me used to pioneer mixers and CDJs in clubs as I play house and techno as i've only really used 1210s and xone mixers. This would indicate I should get an FLX10 but I really want great stems and minimal beatgrid prep - rekordbox is just so bad at stems and beatgrids. Djay pro is so much better - stems sound great and I never have to beatgrid. Is serato very close to DJ pro in these areas? I feel stuck with pioneer's lame software thanks to their monopoly in clubs. How long can the industry standard remain the worst option?
@@anonymous_friendI may be one of few but I’m hoping that make a SRT2000 that fixes all the flaws in the FLX-10 and USB-C connectivity that support 100W PD . Give us more LCD options like the Rev7 ;That would be a SOLID unit. But a man can only dream lol
Its cool and all but the engineers have to step up their game and stop with the same layout, all though the magnic vinyle is a new tech in platter control, but much of the same thing dont get me wrong in music in my opinion is a TANK in dj hardware but i think its time we see something that is not the the same layout these units are very exspense for pretty much the same stuff you said it a unit that is truly in all one where serato is still the software but integrated into the unit but tablet form were you can remove the tablet and use it for prep mode exct...again hats off to rane for there bulid quality and hearing what dj want
This is to be fair a variation on an existing unit, deliberately. We have to also ask: How much does DJ gear really need to change? Do saxophones, drums and guitars change too much every year? Arguably these things are just tools, really.
Pioneer: "dammmmm this rane fellow keep stealing my style". Rane: "i did not steal your style. i just innovate things". Denon Dj. ''sheeet i think i gotta come out with something like that". Hercules: "ha ha ha... i got one like this but way cheaper than ya'lls".
soon we will see on these dj controllers a way to change the voice of the original artist with that of another artist. artificial intelligence will be present, you will be able to make so many changes to a song that in a few years no one will know what the original sounds like
I think you're right - one of the first applications could be instantly "cleaning up" profanities in tracks so you don't need to get special "clean" versions
As someone who likes to be up to date with my Controllers I am Absolutely pissed!!! I Rane should offer all those who went out and purchased the Rane 4 a huge discount on purchasing the Performer they mugged us off what was the point of the Rane 4 release Fvck Rane !!!
@digitaldjtips I understand not everybody would want the motorised variant. But given the choice, I would have gone for the motorised platter. The release of the Performer is so close on the heels of the Rane 4 that they must have had both variants in the lab at the same time surely they could have waited and released them both together, thus giving the option to Djs to choose their preference. But hey, ho, what do I know !!!
I would never buy a unit like that! Why?!... Cause the deckplates are to high placed for scratching and juggling, they should place the buttons above the plates and the plates should be alined with the crossfader.
To be fair, these are tools to DJ on, they shouldn't be seen as disposable, hype items. One of these could last you 6-7 years or longer (and indeed should).

I’d say not
Numark set the bar. NS7 3 2 1 IS LEGENDARY!
Agreed, same company of course
Imagine this controller with usb in for flash drives and ssd built in serato no laptop needed. Also maybe an updated screen layout similar to a ns7 3
We identified this too - once controller get to this level of sophistication, people kind-of expect them to not need a laptop!
I was hoping it would be standalone.
An awful lot of people asking exactly this
Is there a “Talk Over” button the Rane One doesn’t have one?
Good point, don't recall seeing one may be wrong though
Rane 🔥
Can it be used with virtual dj
not yet I don't think but that will be possible soon enough, 100%
Phil, Can you Just ask Them why they are not releasing a stand alone motorized controller? At Some point it gets frustrating with the games they are playing, given that so many people are asking for it.
They all know people want this, so it will come at some point
.......still waiting on Pioneer to release a proper Spinning Platers unit for Rekordbox already..
x2 CRX12's and a S7 double the price of this and half the features.
Rev7 kinda shoe horned Rekordbox to work with it but similar price with x2 less Decks and less features.
Don't get me started on their Stems as well LOL.
Agree, stems are best left!
RIP Rane One & Four 🌹
😂😂 my rane 4 good I ain't upgrading
@@Gamer4-lifeyeap, I couldn’t care less about motorized jogs and the weight it brings
I wish it worked in RB like the 7
Yes, sadly won't happen due to the brand.
No software is perfect, no hardware is perfect. Get what's closest and work around the rest.
Pioneer has 48HRs to respond ! 😮💨
Their only hope is an XR mk2
@@anonymous_friendI may be one of few but I’m hoping that make a SRT2000 that fixes all the flaws in the FLX-10 and USB-C connectivity that support 100W PD . Give us more LCD options like the Rev7 ;That would be a SOLID unit. But a man can only dream lol
This killed everything
I never liked the Rev 7 layout ...to be honest i prefer the rane 4 to the rane performer its lighter can b,e less of tscchie issues with the platters
Yes that's why this is really a choice, not one superseding the other.
😀
Well…this maybe something like I’d consider replacing my 1210’s for….maybe….
big decisions!
Every DJ I've heard from that got rid of their 1200s or 1210s seems to eventually come to regret it
@@chuckmakesit Yeah that’s where I keep coming back to as well, maybe I’ll just try phase DJ as a happy medium.
W A N T !!!!!
Sure after countless issues with the Rane 4 with so many of us They finally make another unit so I bet the Rane 4 will be discontinued
Doubt that, as many don't want motorised platters
Motors are a pain in the butt😂
Blame it on the Rane!
👍👍👍👍👍
soon we will see on these dj controllers a way to change the voice of the original artist with that of another artist. artificial intelligence will be present, you will be able to make so many changes to a song that in a few years no one will know what the original sounds like
I think you're right - one of the first applications could be instantly "cleaning up" profanities in tracks so you don't need to get special "clean" versions
still prefer the Pioneer rev7 tbf
Rev 7 with a bow tie.
Ha!
I guess Im the only one that will not buy these controllers with those small 7" platters... I hated DJing with 45s and these give me flashbacks...lol.
You should try them first
As someone who likes to be up to date with my Controllers I am Absolutely pissed!!! I Rane should offer all those who went out and purchased the Rane 4 a huge discount on purchasing the Performer they mugged us off what was the point of the Rane 4 release Fvck Rane !!!
I agree with you as a rane 4 owner
This controller is not better, it's just a motorised variant. As said in the video, not everyone wants that (me included, actually).
@digitaldjtips I understand not everybody would want the motorised variant. But given the choice, I would have gone for the motorised platter. The release of the Performer is so close on the heels of the Rane 4 that they must have had both variants in the lab at the same time surely they
could have waited and released them both together, thus giving the option to Djs to choose their preference. But hey, ho, what do I know !!!
The front of this controller is 1:1 like ns7II
Same parent company...
How much??
Watch the video
2000.00 usd
I would never buy a unit like that! Why?!... Cause the deckplates are to high placed for scratching and juggling, they should place the buttons above the plates and the plates should be alined with the crossfader.
It's always a trade-off when you combine a busy mixer with scratch features. Agreed.
Filters sound computerized and unlike Audio Analog.
So 28lbs without a case?
Yes
The answer is no.
Rev 5 alone is More Better than this.💯
Different type of controller in many ways
To many buttons. To far from 2 turntables a mixer and mic. And the price😅😂.
Rane One for that
They took too long to release it. The hype has since died … the wow effect is gone.
I really hope Pioneer has a better one up their sleeves !
No this will fly off shelves
@@chadnliz2k11$1,999 I can get it right now but as soon as I get some of this debt off me I’m definitely getting one!
To be fair, these are tools to DJ on, they shouldn't be seen as disposable, hype items. One of these could last you 6-7 years or longer (and indeed should).
Ummmmm for you, maybe
Lol. You are really low key hating on the Rane Performer. It's two completely different units compared to the Rane 4.
Glad we amuse you
OH NO! I just order the Rev7 🫣
They're quite different in many ways
@@digitaldjtips tbh! Is the best controller’s Rane has ever made yet
