I am so happy I found your site. For a beginner just starting out, you all explain so wonderfully and do not hurry with the process. Also like that you showed the back, in addition, the quilt is one of my favorite colors. Thank you.😀
My great granny had a guilt that looked a lot like this. I’d forgotten about it. I’ve still got a few of my Dad’s plaid shirts I haven’t been able to decide how to turn into a quilt. You just gave me the pattern. Thank you so much.❤
Layer cake or jellyroll, they make a nice quilt. Colors will rule!! It's good to see you.... I was concerned where you were hiding 😂. Thank you for the video 😊👍💕
Found this on my feed today. Already have 3 blocks made! Love it. I had a layer cake that has been in my stash for a couple of years waiting to become something and it is perfect. Thank you for the inspiration!
I am not clear on why to rotate and cut the next 2.5” off the opposite side. May I just cut 2.5” twice off one side, then turn it and cut the short two pieces from their same side?
By cutting from each side you get the pinked edges on the outside if the strips which get trimmed off. This makes it easier for many people to keep their seams straight.
Also, if she was using a directional print, she could get them all going the same way. If a it was a more involved print, she could end up with pieces reforming the picture in the original piece.
Rotating allows you to cut on your dominant side, reducing the risk of the ruler shifting, inaccurate cuts and injuries with rotary cutter. When you’re right handed and make your 1st cut on the right side, if you don’t rotate you have to reach across your body and over your left hand to cut the left side. So your posture isn’t ergonomically correct to make clean cuts.
I’m absolutely in love with this pattern!!! Thank goodness I have 2 layer cakes of the same thing so I can enlarge it. I’m so excited excited!!! Thank you 😊
Katrina👏👏👏I’ve added this to my wannado list! What does the finished block measure AND would there be a need to trim it up? Being newer to quilting I think this is an awesome project. Thank you ❤️😀
Hello Angela, Katrina has an older video on how to insert fillets here: ua-cam.com/video/PLWsixZ4ECY/v-deo.html Katrina used a wavy line setting in her sewing machine to quilt it that way.

I do like that your quilting choice does not battle with the fabrics. Thank you for another friendly, weekend block
You are my favorite teacher. You make it so easy to follow along. Perfect pace and I love your projects
YOU are my fave quilter!!! I've learned so much from you. BIG blessings from Texas. 🤠🤠💖💖
My quilting heart had an attack when you “pulled” the yellow out! Wow!

I love the look of simpler block quilts over the traditionally pieced angles etc. This is classic, clean and traditional all wrapped together!
I'm so glad you haven't "over quilted" it - I like the way this allows the fabric to be the star of the show.
What a lovely quilt. Thanks for sharing.

All of these answers are truly helpful hints and reminders.

What’s the layer cake used for the one hanging behind you please?
Happy New Year, This is a fun block
🥰🙏
ok love it but why turn the mat for the 2.5in long strip why not just cut across the block? I get turning for the smaller cuts
Hi, I wonder, would there be less waste if you used jelly roll? Thanks
how do you do the filet? also, are you free hand machine quilting that wavy line or is it a sewing machine setting? I love this quilt. Thanks!
Hello Angela, Katrina has an older video on how to insert fillets here: ua-cam.com/video/PLWsixZ4ECY/v-deo.html
Katrina used a wavy line setting in her sewing machine to quilt it that way.
What is the name of the blue, red and white layer cake fabrics on your wall? Love this!
I'm wondering too, love it!
What is the size of the finished block?
When you ‘press’ the three 10” squares (not blocks) together do you use an iron?
Yes we do :)
I don’t know why you turn the mat?
Not sure how to the filet.
She has a video on filet from 2 years ago. Do a search of her videos using the word “filet”.
