I’m a little late to the party but such a cute idea. I’m definitely going to make this. I have been saving my salvages forever. Yea. I got tons. This is brilliant. Thank you for sharing!
Oh my! I love this idea... hmmm, I wonder how many yards of selvage that I have thrown away over the years. Well, won't do that any more. Thanks you for sharing your tips and the free pattern. Blessings to y'all.
And that’s how I finished the quilt, with sashing. I’m entering in a judged quilt show in September. It’s a first for me, I’m a a little bit nervous. Thanks for loving my spools 🧵 and watching my videos 😍‼️
I subscribed because of your wacky and quilt-loving energy. I’m new to quilting and searched selvage quilts, and came across you…’quilt snobs’…love it!
Love the spools butt use the yellow fabrics. You have lots of left overs so make both. One can be a small quilt and the plain spool a wall hanging to give to your granddaughter who put on design wall.
I like the one with no coloured strips that way it is highlighting the individual spools where as the coloured stripping stands out and notice that first glance, only my opinion others may like the yellow between.
I love this idea. in the past I thought keeping selvages was silly. Now I want to go and cut all of my fabric. I 'm thinking I would make different size spools and play with the design. I could make wall hangings for my sewing friends. (Great another project or my list. LOL)
It’s finished and going in a quilt show in September. However, I have several leftover 🧵blocks and am going to make a small one, 4 spools, for a mini wall quilt with no sashing. I have saved my very favorite selvedges for that one. Thank you for watching and commenting on my channel 😊‼️
Sashing first choice. Maybe can float blocks on the back!!! Maybe around your label... & certainly make 1 or 2 pillows ....then a tote bag for dry goods @ grocery store.... Maybe the back & inside back on a project bag... great ideas for keeper quilt blocks!!!
Hello Sister Chich👋. Good to meet you🤗. I have not come across many selvages, as I have not bought many fabrics. I shall keep your ideas in mind, when I start to purchase numerous fabrics☺️. Regards to you🙏
You bet Anita. They are fun to work with. In about 2012 a designer from Australia I believe, made an entire dress from selvedge. I saw it at quilt market. They’re fun in just about everything ‼️
Love! Love! Love! I would put rows of sashing across to suggest shelves. On the top shelves all the spools are evenly spaced, nice and neat. Then the bottom shelves are Hazel's arrangement, some scooted close together, a couple knocked over on the side, just the way she would sort them.
I know that I am too late to vote, but I want to tell you that I don't typically like fabrics with sewing tools printed on them. I was very surprised that I wanted to make at least a wall hanging for my sewing room using savages that look like spools. I just started to save selvages and initially only have words but before I saw your video, I decided to cut them with at least 1/2" fabric. I can't wait to get enough to make at least 6 to 9 spool blocks. Thanks for the great idea, tips and free pattern!
Love the block. Have seen selvedge projects for years and this is the cutest. I would float them all in white so each one stands out for what it is and tie it together with a colourful border. I would also not make a bed quilt out or throw of them because they are so interesting. 6-9 blocks in a wall hanging for a sewing room. Might even follow a colour wheel flow. I could even see embellished-embroidered needle and thread winding in between them on completed top prior to quilting. Lovely project! As you said, these selvedges are to be admired and appreciated for what they are. I would not draw attention away from them.
Loved your video with spools! I like the spools sitting on something, looks like a shelf or spool rack. Not floating or framed, white between spools and darker color beneath the spools. Looks great which way your choose!! Recently found your channel.. very fun sewing ideas. Thanks, LE
Thank you so much! I’m glad you like it Maya😀 it is my favorite quilt and I’m happy to share my idea I know several people who are making it. Thanks for watching y channel😊🐥
I would lay them out with more white background blocks in a way that makes them look like they've been stacked (like I used to do as a kid) and probably set one on an angle and a couple on their side. Just playing around with the whole picture. You've inspired me to start saving my selvages 😁
Brilliant. I liked the all white background; no sashing. I agree with the previous comment to finish with a colorful border. Just found your UA-cam channel and liked/subscribed. Big smiles. Waving from MEMphis.😊
Thank you for commenting❣️ Thanks for watching and subbing. Now I can’t get the song, Walking in Memphis, out of my head 😂🥰. I’m waving back 👋 from Idaho!
I love your comment 😍❣️ You’re right, there can’t be too many. I’m going to use the sashing on my quilt, however, I plan several minis without sashing. My favorite will hang in the sewing room and quilty friends will get the others. Thanks for watching and ❤️ing my videos❣️
I like the yellow in between and being born in Açores-Portugal my favorite savage piece is you know it ( a little piece of Portugal. )but 🇺🇸 is my Country and very proud to be a American 👍😊
A low volume white would give you separation, but not take away from each unique spool. This is exactly what I have been waiting for! This pattern is so nice. I never thought selvedges were appealing before, but as thread spools they so are. I like the sashing idea for finishing, best. Linda

You will see more collaboration with April. Thanks for watching😊♥️🐥
No sashing looks lovely. I have 2 juki machines. I luv them both 💓

Thanks Susan. I did finish it with sashing and love it. Thanks for watching my channel.
I like it without sashing. I can't wait to start one! I have loads of selvages 😊
It's the most fun I've had with selvedges, thanks for watching and enjoy making it.
I prefer sashing. They look better to me.I am a block framer. Love your spools!👍🏼🥰
And that’s how I finished the quilt, with sashing. I’m entering in a judged quilt show in September. It’s a first for me, I’m a a little bit nervous.

I just might make a couple of projects. Great feedback and TFW❣️
Sashing is such a Good Look, yellow polka dots add a LOT. Thanks for some new ideas for me. A potholder using selvages would be terrific. Thanks
Great idea! That woudl be another use for my massive box of selvedges!
Thank you for watching!!
Prefer floating blocks.
Can't wait to see the completed quilt.
Gotcha 👍🏼 Thanks k you for watching 😍
Love these spools. What a great idea for selvages.
I think so too!
I like the one with no coloured strips that way it is highlighting the individual spools where as the coloured stripping stands out and notice that first glance, only my opinion others may like the yellow between.
Thank you and thanks for watching👍🏼❣️
I love the blocks. Sashing is the way I go.
Yes, and that is what I'll do! Thanks for watching!
Watched this video on Memorial Day, I have always loved selevages, even before I learned quilting. Thank you for sharing and for the pattern link.
Glad you liked it. I can’t stop collecting selvedges😳, I understand why you love them.
Thank you for watching my videos 😊❣️

The different size spools 🧵 is a great idea‼️ Thanks for watching my channel, and glad I could help you add another project to your list 😂🤣😂
Sashing. Lovely quilt
👍🏼❣️ TFW!
Love this! Floating is my preference!
Thank you & TFW❣️
You likely finished this quilt but I say no sashing. Love the idea of the spools!

Thanks 👍 & TFW!
Thanks for the hunts on how to make selvedges be used more effectively. I've made a few drink 🍸 coasters but nothing as big as a quilt. 🇦🇺💜🖐👍😊
You bet Anita. They are fun to work with. In about 2012 a designer from Australia I believe, made an entire dress from selvedge. I saw it at quilt market. They’re fun in just about everything ‼️

Most of my sledges I cut at 2” which gives me the color I want and I still have 42” or more on WOF. Have fun making your quilt😂🐥
@@sisterchicksquilting I really like the term sledges!
wow that is adorable!!!!!!!
Thanks, I can’t wait to get it together. TFW❣️
I love the fact that the smashing makes it look framed.

Very interesting selvedges.
Thanks Linda, I do love selvedge’s. Thanks for watching my channel😂‼️
I’m jumping on the selvedge band wagon. Pretty soon we won’t be buying for the fabric. We’ll be buying for the selvedge.

Love the block and would choose the floating layout. Can't wait to see the finished quilt!!
Thank you! And Thank you for watching !!
Oh, and I love the sashing option because it really sets the spools off. Of course, you can't go wrong either way!
Thank you and TFW❣️
I like the yellow in between and being born in Açores-Portugal my favorite savage piece is you know it ( a little piece of Portugal. )but 🇺🇸 is my Country and very proud to be a American 👍😊
what a cool idea!😊
Thanks for your 😎 comment 😍
A low volume white would give you separation, but not take away from each unique spool. This is exactly what I have been waiting for! I've collected selvedges for a few years now, but other than a pin cushion haven't seen anything that made me excited to use them. This it! And my first time watching your video....I believe that's what I will be listening to in my sewing room today...more Sister Chicks Quilting episodes! Thank you for the pattern link!
