  • Don't Cry for Me Argentina. A song originally recorded by Julie Covington for the 1976 concept album EVITA, later included in the 1978 musical of the same name. The song was composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, with lyrics by Tim Rice. The song has been performed by a number of actors portraying Eva Peron in subsequent productions of EVITA, including Elaine Page, Patti LuPone, and Elena Roger.
The Carpenters recorded the song for their 1977 album, Passage, with Karen Carpenter's beautiful velvety alto voice giving it a richer feel. And of course, Madonna recorded it for the film adaptation in 1996. My heart will always belong to Sinéad O'Connor's version, who recorded it for her album, Am I Not Your Girl, in 1992.
    * Dedicating this one to my very best pal, and fellow Sinéad enthusiast, Ann McBee! I hope you'll like this first draft, Ann...more to come at a later date!
And I hope y'all will like my ukulele attempt at this musical classic!

    Key of A (Karen's key!)
VERSE 1: (same chords for all verses)
    A D
It won't be easy, you'll think it strange
    Bm E
When I try to explain how I feel
    Bm7 A
That I still need your love after all that I've done
    A F#m
    You won't believe me
    B7
All you will see is a girl you once knew
    E
Although she's dressed up to the nines
    B7 E E7
At sixes and sevens with you
    VERSE 2:
I had to let it happen, I had to change
Couldn't stay all my life down at heel
Looking out of the window, staying out of the sun
    So I chose freedom
    Running around, trying everything new
But nothing impressed me at all
    I never expected it to
    CHORUS:
    A D A
    Don't cry for me, Argentina
    D A D A
The truth is I never left you
    Bm7 F#m
All through my wild days, my mad existence
    A
    I kept my promise
    D
    Don't keep your distance
    VERSE 3:
And as for fortune, and as for fame
    I never invited them in
Though it seemed to the world they were all I desired
    They are illusions
They are not the solutions they promised to be
The answer was here all the time
I love you, and hope you love me
*(Repeat 1st line of chorus, hum the rest)
    (CHORUS)
    BRIDGE:
    DMa7
    Have I said too much?
    E
There's nothing more I can think of to say to you
    DMa7
But all you have to do is look at me to know
    E A
    That every word is true

Thank YOU Chuck! I wasn't sure how this one would come across (it's not really a ukulele-type song)...but it was really a fun one to take on! Thanks again, take care! ❤🎵🎶
