Evita was by far Madonna’s best vocal work. Never before or after did we see her sing like that.
I actually only watched the movie a few days ago, and I feel the same way. I feel like It was one of the best musicals I have ever seen.
She wanted to prove she could do something different and worked hard at that. Too bad she never found another project to sustain that level of artistry. But it's similar to Diana Ross, in that she did one great movie ("Lady Sings the Blues") and declined in terms of her movie roles after that.
She blew her vocals for this role. Her passion is second to none.

Madonna was never a good actor but she really shone in this role, and this is the best version I've heard of this song. There are other singers who are more polished, but Madonna is able to convincingly convey intimacy, vulnerability, pathos, and political savvy all at once in this song. It's extraordinary.

Watching her performance in this role made me feel like she was actually channeling the spirit of Eva Peron. Look at old films of her, watch how she moves and speaks, then watch Madonna's portrayal of her, you'll see it. It's eerily similar. Someone up above in these comments said he doubted Madonna even knew who Eva Peron was - I suspect that for certain that commenter didn't, other than a few lines in some history books.

Reminds me of those days my sister would cry whenever my dad would leave for work, cos he used to work far away from home. Sometimes we would hide her,then dad leaves. Today she's a grown woman, and has a little pretty daughter, but she's still the heartbeat of our dad. We still marvel for such love 💕

I understand why. Becuase they are expecting a big belty version of Evita like tge other theater actress/singer who played Eva Peron. What those people don't understand is that sometimes those belty version are too much for a "Movie Musical". We watched this performance in 2009 on the deck of a cruise ship anchored in the harbour of Buenos Aires, Argentina, having visited the City that day. What an amazing experience! I am old enough to remember the Peron's and Eva's death. A performance by Madonna to be treasured!

I remember being in Argentina, specifically Buenos Aires years ago (I quit my job of 12 years to go travel) and I stood underneath this exact balcony where Eva Peron stood, and where Madonna then stood decades later to film this incredible, historical scene. Because I understood the importance of Eva Peron, the importance of that balcony, that public area and that historical moment, I felt slightly overwhelmed being there but when I looked up at the balcony, this song played in my head and time stood still. It's a moment I'll cherish and carry with me forever. Being able to visit such an incredible country (and city), visiting the Evita museum and seeing the tombstone of Eva Peron in real life is something that I'll truly never forget.
Peronism has made more bad things than good things to Argentina. They supported Nazis and they woke up socialist thoughts in our children becouse of indoctrination in schools. Now 55% of our people are poor and 65% of our children are behind poverty. Argentina makes food for 400.000.000 of people but peronism ruined everything. So no, Evita is a bad thing in this country

I never particularly loved or even cared for Madonna's pop music or her various reincarnations as a pop star. But give credit where credit is due -- she did a spectacular job in "Evita." It's a role that was perfect both for her musical talents as well as her persona -- in some strange ways her various reinventions of herself mirrored the tragic life of Eva Peron, making her performance almost poetically poignant and real.

This was Madonna with her best voice. The vocal training for the Broadway numbers improved her vocals a lot. Still not the best singer but much improved. Such an inconic moment. Glad to have lived in 90s.

One thing to notice about any Madonna song is that she has perfect enunciation of all words in her songs. EVERY word is completely understandable which of course makes singing along much easier.

She sounded smooth and vulnerable and then belted it out showing off power and relief. Her vocal delivery is chills-inducing, no one else truly gave me the goosebumps while singing this song the way Madonna did. She made this song hers.😍

@@fluorescenticon101 I don't know about the interview but I was impressed by Patti's performance. Hers was more classical and she added a lot of color, it's actually incredible, she has tremendous skill vocally and acting. Madonna's has a certain purity, the way she used her voice and the use of chest voice on the bottom notes was excellent. Madonna made an excellent film but I am not sure her performance would have had the same weight on the stage. You could say that about a lot of Hollywood versions though.
