  • The Windmills of Your Mind. A song with music by French composer Michel Legrand, English lyrics written by American lyricists Alan & Marilyn Bergman. The music was composed sometime around 1968, and the lyrics came afterwards...but the song (with English lyrics) was introduced in the 1968 film, The Thomas Crown Affair, and won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. French lyrics, under the title, "Les Moulins de Mon Coeur", were later written by Eddy Marnay.

    Key of Cm (Dusty's key!)
    VERSE 1:
    Cm Fm6
Round, like a circle in a spiral, like a wheel within a wheel
    G7 G Cm
Never ending or beginning, on an ever-spinning reel
    C7 Fm
Like a snowball down a mountain, or a carnival balloon
    Bb7 EbMa7
Like a carousel that's turning, running rings around the moon
    Eb Fm9 Fm
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping past the minutes of it's face
    G7 F#dim
And the world is like an apple whirling silently in space
    G7 Cm9 Cm Cm7
Like the circles that you find in the windmills of your mind
    VERSE 2:
    Cm7 Fm6
Like a tunnel that you follow to a tunnel of it's own
    G Cm7
Down a hollow to a cavern where the sun has never shone
    C7 Fm
Like a door that keeps revolving in a half-forgotten dream
    Bb7 EbMa7
Or the ripples of a pebble someone tosses in a stream
    AbMa7 Fm6
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping past the minutes of it's face
    G7 F#dim
And the world is like an apple whirling silently in space
    G7 Cm7
Like the circles that you find in the windmills of your mind
    VERSE 3:
    Cm Fm7
Keys that jingle in your pocket, words that jangle in your head
    Bb7 EbMa7
Why did summer go so quickly, was it something that you said?
    Eb7 AbMa7
Lovers walk along the shore and leave their footprints in the sand
    D7 Gm
Is the sound of distant drumming just the fingers of your hand?
    Gm7 C7 Fm
Pictures hanging in a hallway and the fragment of a song
    Bb7 EbMa7
Half-remembered names and faces, but to whom do they belong?
    AbMa7 Dm
When you knew that it was over you were suddenly aware
    G7 Cm7
That the autumn leaves were turning to the colour of his hair
    VERSE 4:
    Cm7 Fm6
Like a circle in a spiral, like a wheel within a wheel
    G7 F#dim
Never ending or beginning, on an ever-spinning reel
    Cm7 G7
As the images unwind, like the circles that you find
    Cm7
In the windmills of your mind...

Thanks Aud! Really glad you enjoyed! It made me think of you and your farmhouse, all the nice Dutch food, nice land and animals...and beautiful home, filled with your mom's quilts, too many antiques and wall hangings to count, Bonnie,.Hangbelly....Fritz and his gnomes. So much life love and creativity under one roof! I have another gem I'm hoping to do for you and Joe for next weekend...if I learn it by then! 🤞 Buona sera bella! ❤🎵🎶
