Way to go Gretchen. Holy heck, she sung her ass off on this. Every note, every nuance, right down to Ann's haunting last wail at 4:15. Bravo to Jerry and AIC bringing it heavier and harder than the original. This is what real music and musicians sound like. I'm so glad I grew up in the 70's. Man were we spoiled

Do you know what they call it when you make up an opinion for someone else so you can tell them how wrong it is? That's a straw man. Kind of like when you pull a reference to Yngwie Malmsteen and Steve Vai out of your ass, so you can tell me that that jerry Cantrell isn't as good as them, even though I never said he was.
Anyway, you strike me as the type who's more into shoving things up hid ass than pulling things out of it. So carry on with that while the grown ups are talking about bands and guitar players.
to be honest i enjoy cantrell more than vai or malmsteen.there is more to it than just playing fast
I wouldn't go that far, but I do like Cantrell's work a lot. He's not one of the great shredders of our time, but he's a damn good guitar player whose sound is perfect for the band he's in. And that's all he needs to be.
Craig Stallone Cantrell has never been a guitar virtuoso. That isn't his strength. He never overdoes it and only puts in what the song needs. vai or malmsteen tend to go overboard with the solos but Cantrell is at his best as a songwriter. He is that AIC sound and boy does he have amazing tone. From Facelift to Dirt to Jar of Flies to Black Gives Way to Blue to The Devil Put The Dinosaurs here - almost every piece of Alice in Chains music was composed by Cantrell and a good chunk of the lyrics too. AIC even with all the problems have never put out a bad album and that's testament to Jerry as a songwriter partnered with Layne's lyrics and recently with Duvall. Both Facelift and Dirt are more than 20 yrs old but they're still so good.
Gretchen totally nails this. So Close to Anne's voice with conviction. And the we have a shot of Nancy next her shredding that axe and I got lost in the vision. Heart ROCKED!!

+John Demos Yes, that is a true fact fact Layne and either Heart or Ann wilson done a song together before his tragic death that we all unfortunately seen coming! Heart was very impressed with AIC Jerry and Laynes' Harmony was unbelievable and Layne was a one in a million vocalist! I actually remember Ann saying something to an interviewer praising the band!!

Gretchen can say she's country all she wants, but that girl has the heart,soul and voice of a rock singer! She totally kills it on songs like this (and I mean that in the best way possible)! :) She definitely should've gone into rock instead of country. I think she would have gone even further. There just aren't enough mainstream female rock singers nowadays (and I mean real rock, like Joan Jett, Pat Benetar, and Heart). At least none that I'm aware of.

IMO this lady has a nice set of pipes (and many other things) and does a fine cover of this and a few other Heart songs...we need more than can combine older rock, country and their own sound. Either that, or the rock sound dies....fade out the end.
