Prince the type of dude that shows up to school in a cape but then actually flies.
:D
That is probably the best way I’ve ever herd one describe him.
What a wonderfully cool comment! I'd bet Prince would have extremely appreciated something like that...!

Just a reminder that a few days before this Rolling Stone didn't include Prince in the top 100 guitarists of all time. I can't help but feel this was Prince's way of reminding them that he's not just one of the best, he's royalty.
Prince is easily one of the most underrated guitar players of all time. Dude fucking shreds
Absolutely. He then put himself on a pedestal. There's another video that's just reactions from every guitar player in that room.
That video shows every single one of them getting their faces melted off. It's stink face city.
The best kind of petty. Prince was the king
For real!
Absolutely! More often than not Prince was quite understated with his guitar playing, as shown with his live performance with Stevie Wonder in Paris. Clearly out to make a point here.
Who's watching this in 2024?? Go pay ur monthly visit and be amaze with their incredible performance all over again. (Prince always gives me goosebumps in this perf.)
Here in 2024 for the umptheenth time.
i am!!
I have already watched it several times this year. Probably bi-monthly. Will never get enough. As a 67 year old grandmother my kids and grandkids actually have the audacity to tell me to get off of it and act my age but so tell them to bite me. 😂
04/10/2024 what a GREAT TRIBUTE CONCERT!
Go see it at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland... you'll literally cry.
If this is your first play...be warned - you will be revisiting this for the rest of your life! Get's better on every play!
5/23/24; thats for sure!
Yup. You called it.
I don’t always listen to Prince, but when I do, so do my neighbors
DAMN RIGHT!!!
same here.
Hahaha!
YESSS!!!
That's rude of you.
Maybe they like Mozart. 😛
I’m not the only one who watches this every few months and is amazed all over again, AM I?
every few weeks at the least.
Nope
you are dude sorry

Absolutely not the only one. And every time I love how Prince lit Dhani up like he did my Gen.
Prince. The only man who could wear make up and high heels and still steal your girl! 🤩🤩

Ja, aber er war auch der einzige! Aber was für eine geniale Aussage. Ich musste von Herzen lachen. Danke!

Harrison’s son…the smile on his face when Prince is about to shred🙌🏻
Yes. Whatever Tom Petty is going through at that time, it is a shame how indifferent he is.
Harrison’s son actually said he was laughing at prince for showboating and called it a little gratuitous
bro ur full of shit that’s not what he said at all. Prince let the leads get jacked by Lynne’s guitarist in rehearsals and wasn’t showing anything. All the production crew was worried that prince was gonna flop but Dhani Harrison felt like he was holding back instead. Prince gave up the mid solo to Lynne’s guitarist and just took the last one. The look on Dhani’s face is 101% an oh fuck here it comes excited thing
@@orbanchristophercoThat's what he said, but I don't believe he was being completely honest in that interview. Did you see the smile on Dhani's face when Prince took his position on stage? He was stoked, and he knew something special was about to happen. His body language and his smile tell the truth, and the truth is that he enjoyed every minute of Prince's performance.
@@Anime_n_Music
Who could NOT enjoy watching a virtuoso performance in real time?
Dhani definitely enjoyed it, even if the Stars were slightly bent, but even they'd admit it was a singular experience.
Fun Fact: When he threw his guitar at the end it actually phased out of reality and ascended to heaven since nobody will ever be able to play a solo like that again.
AS IT SHOULD!!!
@@kyleschwab1564 he just threw it up for his soonish to come encore ; )

That is true. He threw that guitar at me many times. Never caught it once. It just disappeared. 💜
Prince don’t care what song or who he playing with. He owns it.
I am soon to be 70 years old....and I am still blown away by this performance each and every time I watch it.....and I watch it a LOT! Unbelievable talents! RIP Prince, Tom Petty, and George Harrison.

Prince making George Harrison’s son smile made my day
He was like WTF? He was in awe while playing. This video is the best! To see that!
That was great to see.
The moment just before the solo, when Dhani looks over to him and beams - he knows what's coming!
I read that someone asked Eric Clapton what it was like to be the best guitar player alive and his reply was, “I don’t know. Ask Prince.”
i know i start welling up mate ,its fucking awesome
Still watching in 2024??
oh yeah and lucky enough to be around when these geniuses were still playing

Only Prince could make a stage of SERIOUS ROCK STARS look like a back up band! 1:52
Amen, seriously, he really did.
That is what I thought as I watched for the first time.
This has to be the greatest 'hold my beer' moment in music history!
Perfect description 👌👌💜
Right! Ha, you're right. For me it was more like, "hold everything" !!
YES!!!! Exactly. All these great musicians playing on stage and then Prince just happens to walk up....
Oh, what's that you say? Are we playing a song now?
Well in that case, let me grab my guitar and...
hold my beer.
❤
Most definitely agree.
Prince is quite popular as a singer and a producer, but he is super underrated as a guitarist
Bolter21Mapping , yes sir he was very talented guitar player!! This has to be one of the top 10 solos of all time and the exit was classic!!
Agreed. And don't forget songwriter, arranger, drummer, pianist, dancer, etc. Not many folks have that many musical gifts. He was truly one of a kind.
Kimberlee Ponson Pink Floyd was like this too, the live performances were much longer because of the guitar solos, or even keyboards or everything combined, truly shows how great artists are when they can extend their music live.
yes, and in a studio, Prince can do a Pink Floyd favorite by HIMSELF. That is praising Floyd, as their music live was so magical. This video when it came out shocked a lot of casual fans, but I always knew he could play like this, and better - if you listen to most of his work, he is a very emotional player with masterful sense of vibrato and bends, and this song was made for him to hit out of the park. Clapton is a huge fan, and he must have LOVED it. PRINCE IS AN ALL TIME GREAT. BUt none of the all time greats has mastered all the instruments and can play as many styles as Prince, plus sing and dance? No one comes close.
An understatement :) whoever thought of asking Prince to do this needs a medal on so many levels, its a lovely nod to George (both were creative and experimental songwriters), a nod to Eric's original solo which was in itself a 'step out' for the Beatles, it brings attention to this great song once again, it shows Prince as a more consummat artiste alongside respected contemporaries and as an individual guitar player... I could go on but you get the idea. 35 million views cannot be wrong.
Does anyone else skip directly to Prince's part, or just me?
He is kickin it out - Tom Petty is getting a heart attack 😳
I couldn't help myself ❤😂
I just did 😂
Yep I do to.

Jeff lynns playing and vocals also deserves more credit

It's the final ELO tour
Just watched a bunch of videos from recent Jeff Lynne's elo and once I remember that he paid the devil to keep him forever looking like he's 40 but really he's in his mid 70s and still sounds incredible it blows my mind
@@natelinker3496 Wild West Hero is a brilliant song, but then again ELO made some fantastic songs. Maybe one of the best Greatest Hits albums you can buy. But Prince owned this.
The depth and versatility of his talent is simply amazing. Someone commented he is the Swiss Army Knife of Rock and Roll. Well said.
Prince knew he would need one of his guitars up in heaven soon. So he threw one up so it would be waiting for him.

A king like Harrison deserves a legendary tribute and that's what he got 🤩
He *was* showboating a bit…but if you watch, he’s doing it for Dahni. He knew they were there to honor his father and wanted to give him some extra.
What a stand up guy.
I felt him kneeling in front of Tom Petty was shown off. It wasn't a humble gesture. Tom Petty didn't seem amused. There is no doubt this performance is one of the best I've ever seen. I saw it for the 1st time. I was blown away. And still in awe. Tom and Prince both dead from legal scrip abuse. What a waste.

This did actually make me weep. All talented, but Prince is some kind of wonderful. I remember an interview when Eric Clapton was asked,'What's it like being the best guitarist in the world?' To which he replied 'I dont know, ask Prince'. Class.

have you ever watched a live Hendrix video? When Jimi was on stage, it was like watching a man have sex with a guitar.
Sure, Prince lived longer, but Hendrix was still king when it came to making love to an instrument.
Prince was like a black Carlos Santana....He had the soul of R&B, and the fire of a Latino. An amazing combo to be sure.

From 1976 to this day ELO (Jeff Lynne) has been the best live band i have ever seen and i have seen lots and lots of concerts from legendary bands. I saw ELO in 1976, 1978, 1981, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. I feel very fortunate. The best Super Bowls performances belong to Prince and 2nd Tom Petty.

As for the fabulous PRINCE, there are NO adequate words to describe his MULTI-PHENOMENAL talents other than: "MULTI-PHENOMENAL!" I truly belive that Prince was giving the great George Harrison a sincere TIP OF THE HAT as a grand gesture of respect. Prince was praised by his peers for his incredible PERFECTION and ATTENTION to details. He always exuded AMAZING EMOTION and added a RICHNESS of DEPTH to every song he wrote and sang and every concert he gave. These traits also carried over to the plethora of artists that he composed for.
All the while, I am being ENTHRALLED at just how much DHANI HARRISON resembles his AWESOME Dad.
I ADMIRE, RESPECT & TRULY MISS THE GREAT MUSICIANS ON THIS STAGE WHO ARE NO LONGER WITH US. 💔
GEORGE HARRISON wrote TREMENDOUS music, & THIS SONG will ALWAYS be my FAVORITE.
Jeff Lynne (ELO) is one of the most versatile musicians and producers ever, this is why he is considered by his peers to be among the greatest.
Lynne didn't stick to one style of music because, after decades, it gets boring. Jeff has done progressive Rock, Symphonic Rock - Pop, New wave, and Disco. Everything he does turns to gold. He even flirted with Country music. From 1972 to 1986 (During 14 years) Jeff Lynne's Electric Light Orchestra has had more top 40 hits than any other group in the world....
@StudAth I agree with you to infinity. Great reply. Nice to always meet someone who knows & respects his humble greatness. ❤

The look of joy on Dani Harrison’s face during prince’s solo is so heartwarming
Agreed a hundred-fold, not only did George respect Prince's playing he said he was the best. So to have a Dad fave play his part in this incredible song and have Prince go God mode on it must've been gospel to young Harrison.

@@casinosnoopy9900 🖤💜🖤He sure did, and that was ‘ Showmanship ‘ through and through.🖤💜🖤
I completely agree!
I love how Prince just chills in the background until its his turn. Then he shows us all a true guitar god
YES! And then.... BAM! There he is with that guitar and that sexy confident attitude.
@Gamon Man That's super interesting. I could see the producers doing that, and then Petty spoke to Prince privately and was like "Do your thing man, show em what you got!"
I don't believe this story if you're telling me the other musicians tried to push him aside, but I would believe it if the Producers of the program did. Prince was notoriously hard to work with on the business side of things, but other musicians adored him! unless I'm backwards there.
Gamon Man .. Not true.. see below.

Exactly!!!! Wow PRINCE SHOWED OUT!!!! I was screaming when I FIRST saw this video... He was amazing !!!!
@Gamon Man I just listened to a Tom Petty interview yesterday with a member of the Bangels. Tom SAID: "it was my idea to have Prince come out at the end and just wail. Prince even laughed at the word wail. I thought it would not be that cool to have Prince just standing up there until his solo.". Prince even looks at Tom at one point to say, "should i keep going", and Tom basically said, "fuck yes".
Among his many outstanding talents, the music genius Jeff Lynne (ELO) is a fantastic singer.💯❤❤❤😎👍
His vocals fit perfectly with this song.
I was lucky enough to be struck by Prince as a teen. He has been in my life every day since. This perfomance is a present to all non-Prince fans. So now you all know how rich my life has been since my 18th. Go listen to Motherless Child, Just My Imagination or Joy in Repetition live.
That guitar didn’t gently weep, it cried the most resounding tears of heartbreak and badassness
It sobbed....
It wailed 🔥
It drenched its frets.
Yes indeed.
@@petergreen5337 I came here to post almost exactly what you said. 🙂 Easily one of the best performances on youtube. Blows my mind every time I watch it.
There is one problem with Prince's solo: it ends
Facts
@Neo Love that sentiment..💜
GTFOH boy, the problem is it starts ffs
That, and I think this is the one and only time I wish Tom Petty would have stopped singing for a few minutes. At least 3 rounds of the chorus weren't really necessary, and just broke up the solo.
@M C That's what they said about jazz.. Rock n Roll... hip-hop... metal... movies... comic books... books... literally everything popular throughout history at one time or another. Kids have listened, read, consumed, and played inappropriate things since entertainment was a thing (so, forever). And everytime, old curmudgeons ramble about how it's terrible, and how their music was so much better. Your parents did it. Your grandparents did it. Their parents and grandparents, and so on. Such is art, and growing up in a cultured society.
Marc Mann, the guitarist with Jeff Lynne’s band, plays Eric Clapton’s memorable lines from the album version of the song. But Prince, who essentially stood in the dark for most of the performance, burned the stage to the ground at the song’s end. @_@
I've watched this video so many times and only on reading this comment did I realise that Prince is stood just on the edge of the stage the whole time rather than coming on later.
62 yrs. and I've seen a thing or two, but this tops it all.
Dhani Harrison's face as Prince is about to solo on his dad's song has to be the best thing ever
Alex Delarge That look... that’s the look of happiness and respect.
I thought that too and he seemed to smile more once he knew Prince was about to play
That look and Prince’s performance makes me cry, laugh and smile every time. I never get tired of watching this video
Yeah I thought the same but the disappointment of hearing his comments later....
@@MarylandManson29 what did Dhani comment?
I just love how George’s son gets so excited when Prince plays❤️
It's superb. The little grin on his face as he knows what's coming....... GOLD
He is genuinely happy. He does what I would do and gets very excited
When i originally saw this, they had an filming of George's son and he is clapping and the gang is all around him. He then says, I am going to meet Prince and had a genuine smile on him to go meet with Prince and Prince smiled at him. BEST moment
Fun fact: Dhani Harrison actually said Prince's performance was too gratuitous and that it ruined the whole performance
jonathon well he stands alone in that incorrect thought.
Suddenly Prince goes beast mode
How can you watch a video over and over again for years? Simple it has every GOAT there is in it, and Prince, just took it to another level.
my stepdad was a stage hand for this. he said everyone was so still and quiet, watching and taking it in. theyve all witnessed history. best thing he’s ever seen
Tell the story please
😥 how beautiful. Happy for him, that he was blessed with that experience. That must have been incredible. I miss Prince every day
I was fortunate to have grown up with his music, and to see him live a few times, but I miss him....
Every. Single. Day.
Prince fam.🎶💜
WHAT HAPPENED TO PRINCE’S GUITAR AT THE END IVE NEEDED ANSWERS FOR FIVE YEARS
For sure, lucky step dad, a great performance...!!
@@HitmanJake2113
It’s in a case at Paisley Park! 😉. His guitar tech or one of the crew was by the stage and caught it. He’d frequently throw his guitar and someone would be there to catch it. But it did work perfect on this view because it does seem to disappear.
Everything Prince does on that guitar looks so bloody effortless. It's like he's not playing at all, he's just dancing with it. Pure expression, no filter of uncertainty or need to think of the instrument as anything other than an extension of himself. Glorious.
That's the way I felt about MJ's dancing. Absolutely effortless.
@@martharoman9615 what did u have bring him into it for? Doh
@@skygazer6898 what's the big deal? I'm a huge fan of both and am in awe of both of their talents.
I saw him live in 97 everything WAS effortless. He was the greatest ever
@@martharoman9615 there are many that are talented but there is always someone that has to mention MJ on the same board as Prince...there is no comparison between these two.
Jeff Lynne is a fantastic musician, songwriter and producer. Jeff Lynne's ELO will be on Tour this Summer and Fall in 27 North American cities. It's on my bucket list... I already bought my tickets for New York and Toronto.
This tribute is 20 years old,.......Well, I guess time flies when your having fun. Enjoy your time on earth..
RIP George Harrison, Tom Petty, and Prince, three of the greatest singers/guitarists ever
rock Gods don't stay for long unfortunately
Man you couldn’t have said it any better @Yellow4494. Ditto
They all gone to work with the greatest of them all ..... Roy Orbison 😎. I hope I end up there one day to see the dream team
Hey Jeff Lynne as well please ...
@@jasonm1288 Sorry I don't know him
Everybody: *plays song*
Prince: *steps out of shadow*
*slays song*
I mean COMPLETELY bodies it 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hahaha he did aye as soon as he he did i was sitting there thinking “this fkn guy haha”
That cat on the strat ripping the weeping guitar theme throughout, note for note, bend for bend, was killing it.
Prince was a musician beyond description. I am not much of a fan of a lot of his music, yet he outshines everyone on the stage. What a legend. We lost him too soon.
@@xmillion1704 I'm still wondering who that was. He was on the Concert For George, telegraphing chords to Dhani too.

Most underrated guitar player.
Dhani Harrison smiling in awe while watching Prince play his solo is everything to me
I know, right? That's like the most beautiful thing on youtube right now
Dhani was obviously enjoying every moment of what he was privileged to witness, until the rock and roll elders told him to get his ass in line and never acknowledge the greatness before him. Thank God we don't have to have official acceptance of greatness as it runs us all over.
also Prince was held back by a security guy so he wont fall down at that moment
Well said my friend.... I'd say George would love the tribute and Dhani approved. What a moment in music history!!
Me too. I love Dhani
One of the greatest improvised solos EVER, may Prince and George Harrison's memories be eternal.
Prince is not dead. He faked his death like hundreds of stars. Witness Protection. Research.
Ur missing a few legends there.
absurd. stock licks that have been played hundreds of thousands of times by others.
Tom Petty 🎼🙏💖legends for sure🎼🙏💖
@@phasespace4700 BLASPHEMY! 🧐 JEALOUS MUCH???
The fact is the prince never ever played standard licks. He never played anything standard even when he was playing jazz standards.
NOT TO MENTION THERE WAS NEVER A MORE GENEROUS ARTIST ON STAGE.💖💖💖💖
Jeff Lynne (ELO) is one of the most versatile musicians and producers ever, this is why he is considered by his peers to be among the greatest.
Lynne didn't stick to one style of music because, after decades, it gets boring. Jeff has done progressive Rock, Symphonic Rock - Pop, New wave, and Disco. Everything he does turns to gold. He even flirted with Country music. From 1972 to 1986 (During 14 years) Jeff Lynne's Electric Light Orchestra has had more top 40 hits than any other group in the world....
Dont forget The Idle Race - The Birthday Party etc
I loved him since 1974
Saw Prince in Moline Illinois @ the MARK. IT WAS AMAZING!!! I went with my son, & we had a Skybox. I will cherish this memory. My Son has passed away 💔 (R.I.P. JUSTIN and PRINCE 💔💔)
The moments Prince takes to smile and make eye contact with Tom and Dhani during his blistering solo are the same genuine expressions of pure joy and friendship we see in children
When lightning shoots out of his fingers onto guitar strings. They weep.
Very well stated ! You are spot on.
We lost a musical genius for sure.. he definitely took some things from jimi Hendrix who was genius himself. Never to be forgotten
This is the REAL Prince. Childlike, but brilliant. The Kid to the end.
I noticed the exact same thing.
