  • In this video I cover how you take a simple design from cut files in lightburn and turn it into a nice project that is sublimated. I’m new to sublimation so if I can do things easier please let me know in the comments below. We start in lightburn and migrate into Affinity designer where we go from start to finish on a acrylic logo design that is sublimated. We sublimate unisub hardboard and clear acrylic. Fun little project to introduce you to the process of sublimation. If you own a laser and haven’t tried dye sublimation give it some thought. Or if you dye sub and don’t have a laser consider that as well.

I have a laser on the way but I have never owned or even used one. Your channel has really helped me with the decision to buy a Thunder.

I did not know you could sub onto clear acrylic! I have an ecotank2720 for sublimation and a 60w co2 laser, I'm now going to have to try this! Thanks!

give it a try, it looks great ther is some tweaking you might have to do on time and temp.if the paper sticks let it cool before you take the sub paper off.

Did you do anything to pre-prep your acrylic? Where do you get your UniSub Hardboard and your acrylic? Love your design and the outcome!! I'm going to have to try the acrylic sublimation and check out the Affinity software. Thank you for another great video, I learned alot.

the Unisub hardboard comes from JPPLUS.com. no prep on the acrylic. lots of options for acrylic. Houston acrylic is a good choice

Well done. I commented before that I recently got a laser and am in the learning and absorbing process. Your video was well done, I was wondering about sublimation and you provided me some insights on that - much appreciated. I opened your more section in the description to see if you had affiliate links or other information on products you used. I didn't see anything - would've been nice to see those references. You mentioned you use the unisub hardboard quite a bit - never heard of that yet,. Where do you order - is that a special order thing or have I just never noticed it?

Loved the video, it was very helpful and packed with a lot of tips and tricks! All good stuff for sure! I only had one question on your choice of a $2600+ heat press. What was your reasoning for that purchase?

Thank you for watching and the comment. Great question, I learned along time ago buy once cry once. after doing extensive research this company has one of the best reputations and warranty’s. in talking with several other shop owners that have one it came highly recommended. the 16x20 platen with the ability to change out size and preprogram settings is a great time saver! there are allot of cheaper options for sure but dependability and service after the sale is paramount in my business.

Thank you for the straight answer! On your Epson 15000, did you have to do anything to it to use Dye Syb ink? Modifications?

Where do you source your unisub if you don't mind me asking? My last batch and after cutting it the back edges on some pieces were crumbly and not smooth. Definitely wasn't happy after cutting a 24x24 sheet.

can you cut unisub with a diode? I'm wondering if it can be done and if it would leave burned edges, especially on the white side.

You mentioned in another video that your EcoTank ET-15000 was modified to print dye sublimation. What modifications were necessary? I'd like to buy one myself.

Great video, but I assume you aren't cutting these on a diode? Also where do you get your unisub hardboard?

you are correct all co2 lasers. had a diode and wat too limited and too slow for the workload I had.
