I love my GTX100. I am 66 years old and at one time or another wanted every amp i have now in my Fender. I am also an electronics Engineer and I believe in mathematical modeling. In blindfold tests these amps fool tube snobs. The effects are modeled too. Tube screamer, klon they are all mathematically modeled and sound amazing. Fender did this one right. They modeled everything but tube circuit weight! I must say you have gotten the best metal tones I've heard. Their presets are all over the place. Like you said just make your own preset. Thanks for your sincere opinion of this often overlooked amp.

The best feature of my GTX100 is the integrated looper. It is so good and usable, it is the main reason I like to play it. The amp is extremely loud and very light. Pretty easy to use too, it is a very good amp.
However, I still use my Katana 50 more because it is just easier to get a fantastic clean and crunch sound for blues. (I never play with high gain). And I feel like the sound of the Katana (MkI) is a little more natural, more "3D". I feel that in terms of price/value, the Katana is a little better, but both are great amps.

  • @musiqueurbaine
    @musiqueurbaine 2 роки тому +2

I purchased a GTX 50 along with the foot switch and cover 3 months ago. I loved my Fender Blues JR!!! I will never get rid of it. My reasons for the swap was 1. The GTX sounds great clean or high gain, 2. It’s very light and 3. I was no longer capable to effectively control my foot pedal due to my cerebral palsy mixed in with spinal damage. With my iPhone and the Fender Tone app I can now turn on or off my effects and change presets with the tip of my finger. Honestly, my GTX tone is just as great as the Blues JR gave me.
These are the effects I use the most: Reverb, distortion and vibrato. Other effects: Delay and chorus .
Sim amps that a pretty well use always : Twin, or Blues JR. This is all I need the rest is gravy…

I've got the Mustang II, the predecessor the the GTX, and they're great amps for the money. Being able to get nice tone at low volume is a massive help when you're learning. It's really confidence inspiring.

I'm using a Mustang II as well. However I haven't connected it a PC in years and only use 1 clean and 1 distortion setting. I really want a new amp but not sure if I should get a GTX, Katana, Catalyst or full tube combo.

Another great video, thank you so much. I am a Fender Mustang V2 owner and it is currently my "go-to" Amp because it has many similar features and it too is very practical to use. The GTX100 would seem to me to be the most logical successor to the Mustang V2 in terms of transitioning to something more modern. I totally agree and like your comment that when you want to play guitar, you don't necessarily want to whip out your phone or tablet (...or fire up a computer) and that's what I love about these amps. They are simply "Plug and Play" and any tone editing you want to do can be done directly on the amp and saved on the spot. Its also great that the foot switch is included with the GTX100 as I had to purchase the four button one separately for the Mustang because it only sold with a two button at the time.

It's almost the perfect amp except that the footswitch does not do tap tempo and that it has limited dsp. Other than that it is amazing and I wouldn't trade it for anything else.

I wonder how many people could NOT guess that you were going to pick that amp as your most useful piece of gear? As you said, you use that amp for pretty much every demo you do! I wondered why you wanted to give us some sound demos, but realized that you were showing us some sounds you usually don't use. Great stuff!
I feel the same way about my ancient and still capable DigiTech gear. I have an old Fender Performer 650, but I almost never use it. I go right to my RP355 and rock out! I even did one gig with it and nothing else, running into the PA. Great sound and my favorite presets as well! (Of course, I filled up all the user memory slots with my own patches!)

I watched all the amp demos about 6 mos ago when I decided to buy one amp to end looking at all amps. I just play at home so a smaller amp was the object. I almost did the Spark but the Fender Mustang seemed to be the UA-cam guitar channels choice in this category. I got it and would recommend it to anyone. More than plenty loud if you want it to be. The quality presets and the ability to add my own did it for me.

Lots of versatile, good sounding options these days. I enjoyed your discussion of what you like about the Fender, how you use it, and the demo, very informative.
I have two main rigs that I use more than any of my tube amps, pedals etc.,
    1) Boss GT-1000 or,
    2) Boss SY-1000
I run these into a Behringer mixer and an Alto PA with a pair of TS315 + a TS318S sub. Works great at all volumes. I also use this PA with my keyboards and bass (usually with a Zoom B1on)

In addition, I would say that I use a Line 6 Pod Go in combination with my GTX100 and if I want to use the amp/cab sims from the Pod Go, I put the amp settings to a Studio Pre-Amp setting and use it basically like a Cab for the Pod Go. On top of that, I can use the footswitch and the app to set up a signal chain with five pedals to be used in combination with the pedal models on my Pod God, giving me a "Pedal Board" with a Wah, and ten other effects options. Its completely incredible. The Tone app is super awesome as well. My favorite preset is the Hotwire preset that was made by Gary Clark Jr. and the Overplayin' with Joe preset made by Bonamasa. So much fun. And for everyone who thinks you can't gig with this...you are just incorrect about that. My Dad performed live in bars using the 50 watt version with zero issue. I literally rattles my whole house when I crank it up. Get one! Use your pedal board and then also use the onboard pedals. You deserve SO MANY PEDALS!!!

No regrets, but recently tried the new Line 6 Catalyst against this Fender Mustang in a Guitar Center showroom. The Fender Mustang won for me. The transparency of the Fender Tone app is great as an introduction to effects and pedals for newbies. I like the footswitch convenience. I still use my fender mustang mini amp as my go-to, I put an industrial battery in it that lasts for days, I always reach for this amp when i want to play outside, busk, take to a friends place, etc. 6.5" speaker and battery power means no hassle with AC cables or plug. fender discontinued the small ones because likely there is not enough profit margin in them ($99 amp doesnt leave much profit) . I great set of reviews could be, best inexpensive Portable guitar setup (i.e. no AC power and least hassle to physically lug around, like for busking etc).

I'm not going to accuse some that might just stumble across this video of being lazy and don't want to take the time to make the effort to search your videos for the review, but, there "are" those that want "Immediate Gratification" that might give you more views if you put the link to the review of the GTX100 in the prefacing comments. Have a GT 40 and GT 100 and love them both just couldn't justify replacing them with the upgraded GTX. Thousands of presets and you can always use separate pedals if you want. IMO the spark is a great little amp, but the lack of presets is a drawback.
The great thing about the GT/GTX series over the spark is with the GT/GTX, you don't just have models of amps and cabinets but models of different brands of pedals. And the great thing about the updated app is you can now try the patches before you download it.

I use a Fender G-DEC amp for most of my playing, it is somewhat similar to that one. I love my G-DEC and I use it despite having a Positive Grid Spark practice amp and a 75 watt Pevey Viper. Great amp, nice fetures, it's all I need 99% of the time.

The G-Dec was a wonderful amp with great tone. I replaced the speaker in mine with a Jensen MOD. To bad the amp turned into a ghost and was pulled from the Fender product line.

I had this amp and returned it. Everything was great about it except for 2 things that were a Major Drawback.
    1. If you use any effects, amp Sims or cab Sims that were dsp resources heavy, it grays out a lot of available options. Basically runs out of memory fast.
    2. The Bluetooth connection with the app was horrendous. Kept dropping connection every 5 minutes. I even contacted support and they admitted that there's not much they could do. The installed Bluetooth control module was not very good and they could only replace it with the same!
With this amp, you have to use the app otherwise you will not gain access to all the available tones easily. You'll have to dial the knobs for days without it

2 major draw backs? Only draw back is you and your tube driven ego, if thats biggest issues you.could scrap barrel for for a item.usually less than 400 these days then seriously wtf is wrong with these people? If it a 2 grand tube amp id understand this a remarkable peice of tech and most on here with no tube visors on couldnt tell difference any idiot on here who doesnt understand perks of this amp vs moron high price comparrisons deserves everything you get there ppl all country giging with the gtx100 i guess they "missed" them huge draw backs

Hello Max & other reviewers. I bought the older Mustang V v2 when it came out. Thats years ago. It has alot of digital trickery. The biggest item I use is the stereo speaker thing. It is a 150 watt head to 75 watts per channel. All built in. I passed up on the LT & GT amps due to no stereo. The GTX has been out now for 2 years & thats all you get for a warenty. Fender has no support for the older Mustangs or Fuse software. This will happen to GTX somday. Im sure Fender has a newer thing coming to put these in the dust so those of us with GAS will have to buy the next gen.
A GTX II. It never ends. What are the next amps ? How many pedal options can they stuff into it ? Stereo? Bluetooth to your car as you drive with the amp to a gig ? Actually Im looking forward to the next fancy, digital, super creation from Fender. Thank heaven we got Max to clarify the new stuff. Keep it coming Max.....

I have ADD and get lost and frustrated with programing digital amps and processors. I got to have my tubes. the Marshall DSL20H sounds fantastic at any volume. I also have a power soak If needed and keep my pedals simple.

Thanks for doing this review ive lookes at the fender mustang time and time again and always wondered if you could run pedals with it and the amp modeling thing

  • @strangeuniverse1199
    @strangeuniverse1199 2 роки тому

I have several older modeling amps. My 75 watt Line 6 Flextone 3 amp weighs 48 lbs and has the ability to shake the walls, windows and the very foundation of my home. Are tube amps better? Well my Mexican made Fender deluxe reverb I bought 12 years from Amazon sounded lousy and required extensive component changes to make it sound decent. After a complete Fromel modification overhaul it finally sounded better than my modeling amps.

Thats cool. Fender amps are bad ass. I use the fender champion alot and fender acoustasonic alot. For clean electric guitars i use a vintage peavy renown 1983 . Very clean . And i sometimes use my vintage carvin 212. Its a nice clean amp. I play my gretch threw it. I like your mustang clean tone. I m not crazy about the distortion its on the sonic side but ok . But your clean is real sweet.

I love my GTX100. Biggest reason I bought it? It weighs 22 pounds. Even among the 100 watt multi fx amps like the Katana, it's the lightest. The only thing I don't like is the optional expression pedal. It's pre-fx, so using it for nice fades with reverb and delay doesn't work. It's an ok volume or wah controller.

I have the Marshall version of this. It doesn't have the stereo effects the fender has, but I'm really happy with it for many of the same reasons you mentioned. It has a ton of sounds and is easy to record with the digital out. I wonder how you compare the 2?

    Aloha, 😎🤙
If I was playing guitar professionally I would get the Fender GTX100 but because I just wanted something less watts to practice & jam at home that is low cost I currently have a Peavey Vyrpr VIP 2 40 watt with built-in effects that sells for $249.
I love my amp for my needs.
But when I first started watching your vids I got me a BlackstarHT-20R MkII amp but switched it after 2 wks.

I like the idea/concept of this amplifier, its just that it isn't built to last 10+ years. I suppose at that point with the low cost you could just get the next new and improved version.
Everybody's different, I just tend to keep equipment a really long time. I'm still playing through a Twin Reverb I purchased new back in 1976!
