  • In today's video I wanted to discuss the topic of the carnivore diet and address it. There is a movement at the minute suggesting that removing plants from your diet can improve if not cure a wide range of autoimmune conditions. This of course got me interested and I have been delving into this topic and wanted to share with you!
    Dr Gundry's Plant Paradox: • What is the Plant Para...
    Let me know in the comments if you have heard of or tried this diet in the past! I would love to know your conclusions/ results.

    I have two types of arthritis and psoriasis. At night I can only sleep 2 to 3 hrs. at a time due to pain.
    I started the Carnivore diet a week ago. Pain has decreased. Last night I slept 8 hrs, this is the best I've felt in a long time.
    The rheumatologist has me on all kinds of dangerous drugs that never gave any relief. One week on the Carnivore diet has done more for me than years of drugs. 😊❤

    I am 67 and have PPMS, diagnosed in 2004. Bedridden for near 10 years, but carnivore seems to be helping. Digestion and constipation, high B/P, vision problems, tremors, all much better after 10 months, don’t expect instant results.

      @Poire Tartin I eat almost exclusively beef and eggs, my favourite is roast beef. I use a lot of ghee and sea salt, drink water and that’s about it. I try to maintain a ketosis level of 6.5; keep that high for healing.

      @Poire Tartin My ketosis is high, the lowest is 0.5 the highest wanted for weight loss is often said to be 3, 3 - 5 for therapeutic levels and 5-10 for healing autoimmune. Dr. Stephen Phinney has a lot of videos on ketosis and healing. I have healed a lot and still have a ways to go.

    I started watching Paul Saladino when changing my diet. He likes eating fruits with meat also, but fruits still come from plants. There are still to some degree oxalates in fruit. I really focus on watching Dr. Anthony Chaffee, Dr. Shawn Baker and Dr. Ken Berry.

    • @tomgarbett77
      @tomgarbett77  6 місяців тому +5

      Yeah it's interesting. I have started the diet similar to Paul Saladino, however I am limiting my fruit and honey and not going overboard, so mainly I am eating meat and fat and I am feeling great! I do respect the likes of Dr Anthony Chaffee and the other doctors you mentioned for their stricter approach but I wanted to keep fruits in initially to help my body ease into it

    I made a comment a few months ago about linoleic acid (seed oils ) and the mitochondria . Paul saladino also has a lot of infos about those . I was hoping at the time that you’d somehow found his videos . Glad you did !

    • @tomgarbett77
      @tomgarbett77  Рік тому +4

      Yes thank you! Your comment definitely contributed to me educating myself further in this area! But yes seed oils really are awful for our health from what I can find. It's shocking it has found its way into so many of our foods. But yes Paul Saladino is great, so thorough when it comes to backing up his points on the carnivore diet. Are you currently on a carnivore diet?

    • @AT-yl6kc
      @AT-yl6kc Рік тому +4

      Yes I’m currently on an animal based diet ( mostly meat and organs with some fruits). Beware of the transition period when you switch to a carnivore diet . You gotta go slowly and not completely switch overnight. The science behind it is because your mitochondria can’t really burn your body fat due to level of PUFA’s accumulation . They have been depending on carb to burn energy . If you take away the carb and your body fat is inaccessible , you’ll experience the “keto flu “ , it’s gonna be brutal .

    • @AT-yl6kc
      @AT-yl6kc Рік тому +2

      Several independent investigations have demonstrated mitochondrial respiratory chain deficiency in MS, as well as abnormalities in mitochondrial transport. These processes create an energy imbalance and contribute to a parallel process of progressive neurodegeneration and irreversible disability.

    • @tomgarbett77
      @tomgarbett77  Рік тому +1

      @@AT-yl6kc Yes that is one thing I am wary of. I feel I am in a good position because I intermittent fast everyday as well as doing prolonged fasts of 24 hours or more periodically and so I feel as though I am relatively fat adapted. Would you suggest then that over the first week perhaps, I keep carbs relatively high by eating more fruit, to make the transition easier?

    • @AT-yl6kc
      @AT-yl6kc Рік тому +3

      @@tomgarbett77 yes I would advise to keep the carbs in the first few weeks (don't put a timeline on it, it may 1 weeks or more let your body decides). More importantly though it would be to greatly increase your saturated fat consumption (Ghee, butter, fat from steaks, fat trimming). I think I sent you an email about how the mitochondria react greatly to saturated fat vs PUFA's. On that note beware of too much rendered fat (liquid fat) including butter and Ghee, it has a laxative effect. What I did to be able to consume a lot of butter without that issue was to use a bit of bread (I know but I don't let good be the enemy of perfect) to soak/bind the butter in the first few weeks. There is also the issue of levels of PUFA's in chicken and pork due to them being monogastric animals and the feed they gets (soys and grain) I thought you ought to know. It's a lot of info I know but I wish you good luck.
      "The immune system is an orchestra of players fundamental in the body’s defense against infections and harmful pathogens. Mitochondria, are the supreme conductors. In the last decades, several studies revealed that mitochondria control a wide variety of innate and adaptive immune signaling pathways, including immune cell metabolism, proliferation, and differentiation."

    Interesting let us know how it works for you if you try. I have never been a big meat eater so this would be a challenge. • @tomgarbett77
      @tomgarbett77  Рік тому +3

      Yes will certainly keep you updated! But yes I certainly don't think it would be for everyone, and I also believe some people will be able to tolerate plants much better than others. But yes I definitely think you are wise in looking to switch which plants you are eating.

    I have been on the Carnivore diet for 60 days and am feeling so much better already. I have had MS for 15 years and have always tried to follow a healthy lifestyle. I had good success with a nutritional keto diet some years ago where my walking ability improved hugely. I could even walk without my stick. Keto is hard work but I am finding Carnivore so incredibly simple. I had been mostly plant based for 7 years and was just getting worse. I had two relapses. My body is loving Carnivore so far. I am excited to continue to experience improvements. I know it will take some time for things to heal fully.

I can (and more importantly want to) do regular workouts. I am introducing fasting next week so am excited to see the results of that. I'm focusing on beef but have fish, eggs, butter and a tiny bit of cheese. I plan to do a minimum of 3 months but most likely 6 months on the diet. I believe he was talking about tomatoes and their skin and seeds, how originally we would have removed both before consuming. Nightshade plants. The fruit is different because they are made to be attracted and eaten to pass the seeds out & on to regrow. Clever plants really.
