    Stuffed my Foldie 2.0 to the gills and carted it around South America for 4 weeks, packing and re-packing every couple of days. No zipper issues, no burst stitches, could lock it when I checked it for flights, came through multiple flights as checked baggage undamaged. I didn't carry electronics in it, but maybe you could put those in the water proof pocket?? The shoulder strap is essential, this baby gets HEAVY when fully loaded, around 8-9kgs, depending on what you carry, of course! Still in perfectly good nick and will be taking it away with me again. I thought it was worth the money.

    A tip to keep things dry inside any bag….pack into the hotel laundry bags, and have extras for additional purchases/things. It will still be organized and won’t get wet!

    I love the Foldie, but the price point as well as you wet experiment - hm. Advantages would be the water bottle pocket, the cross body strap and the better zippers.

    I have one of the "Amazon bag" and it does have: snaps/loops on the side to tuck the top corners down, a cross body strap, a luggage handle loop on the back. Just depends what version you get! Definitely not long-term materials, but I took it on a 2-week trip to Korea and Japan last year and it held up great.

    I bought a similar bag on Amazon for 32.99. It expands, has shoulder strap, wet pocket, 2 side pockets and a middle pocket, suitcase handle slide thing with a zippered pocket and tons of room inside. I got it in peacock blue. It's gorgeous! It does get heavy with the shoulder strap as cross body. I tend to just put the short handles on my shoulder. WALNEW was the brand and the label says handmade. Better than these 3 you are reviewing. 😊

    You get what you pay for and that's why I'm more than glad that I bought my purple FOLDIES 4.0. Until I actually travel by plane, I am using it as a gym bag -- fully expanded -- with my 2 - 3 lbs weights - and 2 side water bottle holders.

    I think I'd probably go for the Amazon one. My thinking: You can get two for less than the price of one of the Foldie's (that is counting the BOGO and discounted price), I would think the only reason I would be needing it would just be for an extra bag for maybe the beach or to hold purchases so even if it's not built as well, I would still have another one for backup. As far as the crossbody strap, yes it would be nice but again, I wouldn't anticipate needing it except for emergencies and then I could hook it over the handle of the luggage and wear the backpack I usually take.

    I usually pack in plastic bags inside my personal item and carry on, so not being water proof wasn’t an issue for me. The foldie’s quality material, cross body strap, Ykk zippers and interior pockets sold me on this bag. I had already bought a Foldie, so I was interested in how the Amazon bag compared, I was a little concerned because of the price difference, though I did get the two for one.
    Thank you for the comparison, not having a cross body strap was the deciding factor for me, even if everything else was the same about the other bags.
    You did a great job with the comparison and the creative way you tested the waterproof (or lack thereof) quality of these bags!!😂

  • @sarainsaudi

    I have been using my Longchamp as a foldable bag because it is very water resistant, holds a lot, and folds nicely. It also looks nice for other uses. But…it doesn’t have a water bottle holder, interior organization or a crossbody strap, so I’m still looking for the perfect extra bag. Let’s see! Honestly though, this does it most of the time, but I’m always happy to test out a new one! :)

    I recently picked up a couple of the Foldie. My next trip is in a month so I'm excited to try it out. My fiancé and I travel a good bit but it's mostly road trips so I'm not quite as concerned at packing light as I would be if I was flying. I am looking forward to trying it out whenever I fly again as my personal item with my small rolling suitcase. It says that it easily fits under the seat which I'm curious about. I guess it would be fine if you don't stuff it too full. I normally bring a backpack. But rolling through the airport and then on the plane with this using the sleeve I think would work nicely. I have to admit one time I turned with the backpack on while boarding the plane and accidentally hit another passenger. I was really mortified.

    I just bought an amazon version of Foldie and I love it. Not sure how durable it will be, but for $8.99 I'm happy. I will mostly only use it as a way to "decompress" all my carry on luggage stuff while away, not for actual traveling.

    Great review - I had never heard of any of these bags. My wife has a Longchamps bag with zero organization (she complains about it) and non-waterproof zippers, which is the main way that rain gets in. I have a black matador foldable duffel that is limited in functionality but totally waterproof in zips and seams (but smaller and totally unfashionable 🙂)
    One main criteria for me is how "checkable" they are since many times this will be your 3rd bag - my wife doesn't trust the airlines with her expensive Longchamps. What are your thoughts?

  • @indefinitechaos
    @indefinitechaos 4 місяці тому

    For the Foldie:
    1. Are the D rings for the cross body strap plastic or metal?
    2. when you fold the bag, does the cross body strap fit in the pocket too? Is that what the extra zipper pocket is for that is inside that outside pocket when the bag is unfolded?
    3. The snaps on the sides, when they aren’t snapped to make the bag square do they just flap around or is there something else to keep them out of the way?

    Thanks for filming this! I have an earlier version of the Foldie (maybe 1.0) and zipper/pulls are crappy. It appears the Amazon dupe is similar to the original Foldie (no-dual zipper, no shoulder strap, no d-ring thingy and no side pouches for water bottles). At least that one is water proof! My Foldie doesn’t have as many inside pouches as the current version. So glad to hear that they improved the zippers & pull (love a good YKK zipper!). Also, my Foldie does not have a strap for a luggage handle. I think I’ll get the updated version of the foldie. The “overflow” bag I have isn’t as versatile and on my last trip, someone handling my bag (he trying to help…) but he ripped one side of the luggage strap.

    I got an older version of the Foldie (maybe 2.0) ages ago when they went on sale. I'm pretty sure I paid less than $50 for it too. I've used mine in light rainshowers and my stuff was dry inside, but maybe it wouldn't hold up to a heavier soaking (like if it were sitting on the tarmac during a downpour). The current price for the Foldie seems exhorbitant, especially if it's not really water-resistant. Overall, I like my Foldie, but my D-ring for the shoulder strap broke the first time I used it as I was running across the airport to catch a connecting flight. Very disappointing. At the time I wondered if I should've gotten the knock-off from Amazon, and now I'm thinking maybe it would've been worth it!

    The Foldie is water and tear resistant. That explains why the stuff inside got wet. I just ordered 2 with the same discount in black. They currently only have 5 colors. We have bright purple suitcases. I'm hoping to use one of them as a beach to carry 2 sets of fins, snorkels and fins.

    I bought the Foldie for the 2 for 1 deal. One zipper pull broke off during my first use, and the second broke after my fourth use when I was out of town. The bag would not close, and I couldn’t get the zipper pull to go back on the tracks. I haven’t used the second Foldie. I probably won’t take it as my personal item on a flight. It might become a gym bag or an in case of emergency extra bag. Fortunately I had a Tripped Travel Gear backpack with me, so I used it as my personal item on my flight home. Buyer beware!

    Disappointed that the Foldie wasn't waterproof. How would these bags do if you need to check them in rather than carryon? I took a carryon and small backpack on my trip to France in November and managed to have room for a few small souvenirs but it would have been impossible if I had purchased more. What's the best tactic if you do plan to make purchases? Check an empty or mostly empty bag (assuming you get one free checked bag) or buy an inexpensive bag at your destination only if needed?

    • @ItsTheKellys
      @ItsTheKellys  5 місяців тому +3

      If I needed to use it fully packed and bring it home that way, I’d probably check my carry on going home and use that as my carry on. Or however you need to rearrange your packing so that anything breakable is safe from being checked!

Cons- it looks a little diaper bag- ish, I don’t think it holds any water resistant titles, and it’s a bit pricier than the bags you have there- but this bag wins on form over fashion and on top of my carry on roller bag it’s a perfect paring.
