As an avid motorcycle rider and racer for over 40 years, I find your assessment of the Mandello extremely odd. Once broken in the engine is quite magnificent, it has all the power you could want for the type of bike it is. Handling is wonderful and the Ohlins does a fantastic job once it is set up properly. Brakes are great, The quickshifter does need some improvement, mine only has an issue going from 1st to 2nd, the rest while not perfect every time is acceptable. I understand Moto Guzzi has addressed this issue in the 2024 models making changes to the clutch. I do not feel the shaft drive issue you speak of, I have owned 38 bikes, currently I also have a Tuono 1100 Factory (Most amazing machine) and a Multistrada v4s, and a few others. I find the V100 to be almost the perfect bike, I enjoy it so much I ordered a new Stelvio. I will say when pushed extremely hard the bike is out of its comfort zone, but after all it's not a hyper naked. I actually prefer the Manello over the Multistrada V4.
Agree 100% with everything you said. I use the clutch for the 1-2 upshift but the quickshifter is fine for all others. The engine and gearbox need a couple thousand km's to break in but after that it's game on. And I wonder how many reviewers realize that full engine power is not available until after the bike has received its first dealer service?
@@kingkrimson8771 Yah the 1-2 shift is rough but the rest is great. Didnt realise about the full power mode after first service?? got mine in next week so looking forward to getting those revs up.
Agreed, it's a beautiful machine, which will only get better and smoother over time. I wonder if the tester is really only used to 150hp hyper sports fours or similar. I personally think they are a breath of fresh air.
My V100S has 6K on it and revs really quick for a twin. Gear box is now snikitty great. I never use the quick shifter. Drive a broken-in bike, please. Four strokes are really tight new. I have zero issues with power anywhere but it is indeed lively above 4K. I feel no shaft effect at all compared to my R100RT, zero. It amazes me people gaslight the standard crap about Guzzi, and this is a long shot from a standard Guzzi. I love the fact that the V100S is so versatile and easy to live with. Tour, commuter, light sport? Yes, yes and yes. Pefect? No, the suspension although good is tight on square edge bumps. That's the Ohlin's not the bike. Needs storage crannies and a bigger dash. The brake dive is 100% user adjustable. So adjust it for less if that's your thing. Easy to do.
Granted, a 31 year old BMWR100RT compared to the Mandello V100S is kind of harsh. But, I could not find a shaft drive twin that was "modern" until Guzzi made the V100S. This was a take my money PLEASE purchase. Few things I buy are as spot-on as this MG V100S. It has the spunk of my 1979 CB70F and the legs of the BMW but more of both than either! The wind protection is more than good enough with a GIVI touring fairing. It is near perfect to still make you feel "out there" and not covered up in plastic. The tank wings WORK. Sorry, they are not gimmicky. Run at 48 degrees in rain mist and wind awhile and turn them in and then tell me they don't work. You'll wish the hell you didn't turn them in! Want more air in the summer? Easy, then you turn them in. I love the wings. I set the throttle to SPORT in the TOUR mode as it is more immediate, like a carburetor bike is. The drive by wire is soft at the initial opening for some reason and feels anemic. SPORT throttle response cures most of that squishyness. Being off the BMW I really notice this, still. My transmission still has a firm engagement, but it doesn't JERK anymore. It's worked that out but not the heavy CLUNK, that's still "audible" but you don't jump foreward a foot anymore if the brakes aren't applied. I also never use the quick shifter as I do it better myself. Oh I tested it and it is a second gear on up thing for sure, and is fine. I just like to shift. This bike has been needed in the market for like fifteen years! WTF everyone? Better, it is a bulls-eye on the requirements except a few niggles. The Guzzi makes a UJM seem like a specialist bike it is so good at what it does everywhere.
A motorcycle being criticized for having a "too sophisticated" suspension. That's a first for me, and frankly ridiculous. Almost as bad as the AI-generated voiceover.
The suspension isn't new at all, it is well proven and used across many bikes. That's good. The "new" aero stuff works fantastic at cool weather, like 52 F and rain you'll really miss it if it is gone. Warm, not so much. I like it as I ride all year 50F and up.
As an owner of a V100 Mandello S for the last 12 months, I can testify it is utterly perfect, loaded with tech incl. TPMS, lots of real world performance, exceptional reliability and a very handsome bike especially from the RHS. Unique and charismatic with an addictive sound track. The QS gets better as the mileage builds up. Top tip: keep it in Sport mode!
how is your bike holding? how has reliability and maintenance been? strongly considering this bike. going to sell my harley low rider s and maybe pick this up or the stelvio
I seriously think these bikes will become a classic in years to come. Almost like a hit song thats ahead of its time, and only appreciated later on down the track.
An absolutely wonderful motorcycle! The engine is truly awesome. It gets better and better the more miles you ride it. Mine is the Aviazone Navale and comes with the just right options and price.
I just test rode the Mandello S. There was nothing old-fashioned about the bike. The tech works and the bike is beautiful. We were doing well above the posted speed around sharp curves and long sweepers. The only point of your review that made some sense is that the quick shifter was clunky 1st to 2nd, but then again so is my R1250GS. Listening to your review, I wondered if we were on the same bike. Yet at the end, you recommend it?!?!
It does come with a power socket under the seat. You can also buy a second power socket for $30 (AUD) that takes 2 minutes to install into the dash cluster.
For many motorcycle testers, once they see the shaft drive, they’ll claim they can feel the drive shaft effect before they even sit on it, never mind riding it. I’ve been riding shaft drive bikes for over 45 years and am still waiting to experience this drive shaft effect. But I’m sure any day now, I’ll get the full experience.
I'm glad I didn't watch this review before I bought my white v100. I've put 5,300 miles on mine in 6 months and I really like it. First time I watched this guy and he is a big whiner, he sucks.
lol...gave me the same impression! I ordered a v100 s after seeing almost all the reviews on youtube and after testing the bike from the dealer. 99% of the reviews are very positive!
Did you seriously throw that beautiful brand new motorcycle down on the ground just so you could get that ridiculous shot at 3:22? Or was it a case of being as bad a rider as you are a reviewer and you just crashed it and shot a picture before you picked it up? Egad man. Bad form.
On the bike, you can adjust the ride settings of each mode, rain settings in Sport mode and anti-skid settings in 4 modes. Since the bike responds to the throttle in sport mode 1 traction control 1 really sharply, I suspect that the sport mode settings of the bike you tested are set incorrectly.
I agree. My V100S is 100% adjutsabel to suit your needs. I set the throttle to "sport" but leave the rest alone in "tour". The sport throttle (engine) feels more like a carburator to me, faster response. But hell, go in there and adjust it and stop whinning. Sure I hated the rdie by wire at first, but adjusted it to suit, now no problems.
The Multistrada V2S has skyhook electronic suspension with an engine that delivers excellent power. This V100 ohlins is bottom spec but worth the $1000 upgrade
I guess not everyone likes every product so I think I will put this review down to the bike not being to your taste. It would be pointless to take apart your review piece by piece so I will comment on the bit you got right. The quick shifter and gear change are poor on new machines however after you get some miles on the bike things improve, my bike now has 5000 miles on it and the whole gearbox experience os much improved .
There was a lot I have to disagree with I bought a base due in part to your assessment and after 4000 miles of riding and tweaking I could not get the bike to stay planted in aggressive sport riding conditions. I ended up trading for an “S” because I liked everything else about the bike and the Ohlins system in my opinion transformed the bike. I owned a KTM SDGT for 5 years and the V100 S handles better in tight fast twisties in my opinion. So if the rider is going to meander then the base is fine but if you are looking for a destination bike that gets to the advanced stuff in comfort, I recommend the “S” with the Ohlins semi active. The QS works perfectly from 3rd to 6 th and I use it on every ride to get to high gear quickly and seamlessly With 5000 total miles on a V100 I find the bike to be a very enjoyable mount when one has to travel to get to great roads and doesn’t want to use a trailer.
