Purchased my 2024 Dakar Podium Tuareg today. Thanks for the good review, very helpful information. Looking forward to getting it on the road and trail.
Good choice. I really liked the Tuareg when i was searching for my new bike last year. Ultimately went for the KTM 890 Adv R, but that Tuareg left a lasting impression. Main reasons for me was a good deal on the KTM (still 1800€ more expensive than the Tuareg), aftermarket obviously more developed since the 790 been out for a couple of years, more power and lean sensitive ABS and TC. Otherwise the Tuareg is a peach!
@@epoxone the 890 is amazing. I started to pull the trigger on a Triumph 900 Rally Pro. I went with the Tuareg because I plan to do more fire roads than paved roads. I took the Tuareg on some unpaved roads today and had a smile on my face the whole time. See you on the trails.
I am 1,70 cm and presently have both Tenere and Touareg. I’ve been using them for day to day use and some off road with knobby tires. I couldn’t agree more with you! The T7 does everything good! But the Touareg simply does it better. It’s more powerfull, shorter and I never bottomed out the suspension the way the T7 does. You will do right with the T7, but make no mistake, the Touareg is more refined, faster and more equipped bike!

My new bike! And I don't care whether it's reliable or not. A lot of this is talk from times past. My Tuono v4 has been running for 45,000km without any problems. So nothing at all except maintenance. I don't really understand why everyone needs a bike that has to cover 300,000km. Most of them don't even manage 5,000 a year. And optics can be debated. I really think it's different. Not this pseudo-would-be rally tower garbage that isn't really available off the shelf anyway. I don't understand why everyone thinks he's a rally driver😂?! For me she is really almost a unicorn. Up to 5000 rpm there is enough pressure for everything and above ... 80hp it pushes like a rocket ship. Nobody needs more off-road .Exactly what I mean by an adventure bike! Forza Aprilia 💪
The first Tuaregs, like mine, have a few problems. Fuel sensor and an incorrectly mounted fork. All rather small things if you look at the KTMs or BMWs
Simply the best YT review on the Aprilia Tuareg 660. I appreciate all efforts in putting this quality vid together. Over the years I've had the Tiger 800, KTM 890 and BMW GS, all great bikes. But after owning the Tuareg, I totally agree it is "The BEST Adventure Motorcycle". For the all reasons you gave and more. Keep up the great work! By the way, I do love the look/style of the bike! : )
You make it sound like this is the first adventure bike from Aprilia. They have long history in lightweight off-road and dual sport bikes. First Tuareg came 1984 for desert Rally and followed by the more street oriented Pegaso to compete with Transalp. Aprilia was very early with fuel injection on the unique twin engine dual sport enduro RXV 450.
I’m glad to see a longer term review of this bike. So many big name channels get a press bike and mostly talk about the same stuff after only having it for a little while. I’ve been very strongly considering this bike as a supplement to my DR650 for a more road focused touring while still being able to do forest roads and the like. Hard to justify that when I don’t know any long term thoughts.
I love how you explain the basis of motorcycling - here what is touring, adventure or so. Lot of motorcyclists do not get it despite long experience 😂 Great job!
I hope Aprilia continues improvements of the minor critiques and adds options for this bike. How about an ADV ready version or at least kit option with standard guards, rear rack and cage ready mount for side bags of choice. I love the look of the blue & white where guys have done the raised mx front fender. How about this as a factory option Aprilia? I too hate the red or yellow seat top. Too low windshield seems to be a complaint on all the stock mid size.
I recognise many of the trails and roads on this video. Riding the province of Málaga, southern Spain. I live in Marbella and have a red Tuareg as well. Btw, you can adjust the traction control of the 4 modes during the ride. I actually bought my bike at the same place you did rent the one of the video. Catch you around!!!
Bought a 2023 Tuareg a couple months ago and gotta say it's an enjoyable ride. Previous adventure bikes were Tenere 1200, KLR 650 and KTM 690. This is by far my favorite. The looks ... at first I wasn't sure but now I like the looks, even the weird headlight and tail light. Some mods I made that helped, a wind screen deflector (MRA or PUIG), Acerbis Chain guard, SW Motech Radiator guard, and a Altrider adjustable kickstand (this was worth the $200!) that helped set the bike at a normal lean angle.
The 2024 Tuareg colors are better. The black one with red frame is very nice. Also the headlight is better looking without the grey metallic plastic around. They have worked also on the low revs torque, to make it better.
Nice to see that you drive on familiar roads, though I need to switch to a trail bike soon so I can explore the gravel roads and trails in the area as well. Anyway, I will ad the Tuareg to the list of potential future bikes.
Hey great video. Cool that you went out and took all that original on road/trail/drone footage. Also very well written and read. I’m a former Aprilia owner and had no problems. I have no hesitation about the brand. My nearest dealer is 120 miles away, which gives me some pause. Thanks again.
Based on specs and reviews like yours, the Tuareg 660 seems like the perfect bike for my needs (I currently have a 2022 Honda CB500X) - enough power, enough ground clearance, light enough, a decent suspension, etc. The only thing that scares me away from buying one is Aprilia's less than stellar reputation for reliability. I bought a Honda for that reason and, unfortunately, Honda doesn't have a comparable bike to the Tuareg 660. Yes, there's the Honda Transalp XL750, but it's a better road bike than it is an off-roader. Having said that, unless Honda, Kawasaki, or Suzuki produces a direct competitor to the Tuareg (I don't consider the V-Strom 800DE a direct competitor), my next bike will likely be either a Tenere T700 or a Transalp XL750 depending on how well my plan to become a better off-road rider goes...
Dude, not sure what 890 AR you rode but if you set up the suspension to your riding style and speed, it is confidence inspiring on the dirt or twisties. It goes hard and can be set plush. The 890 engine has grunt right off the bottom and is a different class to the Tuareg. Agreed, compared to the 890 AS, the Tuareg would be my pick for dirt and road.
I rode 790, 790 R, 890, 890 R. Nope, the 890 R has a limited range of suspension adjustment - it will always be quite stiff (from semi-stiff to super-stiff). And 890 engine has pros and cons, that you ignore.
She is the best, she is beautiful, she looks so pretty, she is known for dripping a little oil from time to time, and finding and ordering parts from the many many dealers across the world is one of the best, the best ADV motorcycle ever, she is the greatest, ,the best, and can be dropped from a rock, and is going to survive...huh? What a great review, she tells it like it is, she is great adv rider and bike reviewer, she likes things longer and stiffer, she likes to talk nonsense and post on you tube...
The best review ever. Well done 👏. P.s. how about a pr7 review? There are nothing there, they are all talking about the offroad ability, but nothing about the bike as an adventure bike...
The Main Problem is Price. They're all too expensive. The additional problems with the Tuareg are the Heat that comes off the exhaust, the maintenance reminder that needs to be reset at the dealership, and the lack of dealerships.
It's less than $2,000 more than the t7. While it is true that the service light needs to be reset by the dealer, it doesn't actually affect anything. It is actually a pretty friendly DIY motorcycle. I've done all of my own service, I have the service technician manual, I have the complete parts catalog and torque specs, the only thing you need a dealer for is Aprilia specific software and warranty. My bike has about 8400 miles on it and I haven't had any issues I couldn't fix myself. I also have three dealers all within an hour and a half from me. I won't take it to the dealer unless I absolutely have to 🤷
I see that exhaust position can be a serious problem when using it as adventure bike - placed too high, too far from bike enter (it will have negative influence on panniers installation, bike balance, width).
@@turbolag5107 But what about the 3rd, 4th or 5th etc 8k miles???? Some people ride 25- 30-50k per year. A bike at that 12-16k price range is not supposed to be 'falling apart and leak' at around 30-50k miles. When the first 50-70k examples pop up, in about 2-3-4 yrs from now, time will tell about true reliability. I love the 660 - also looks good..- and this is a great video except the voice and intonation of the narrator..but the video points out major flaws besides all the goodies. A fair comparison. t7 also got the negatives and no bike is perfect. All horribly UNcomfortable, adv bikes should not ever be about bs seats resulting a horrible feel in just about an hour or two or some immediately.... Mr and MRS professional designers never get to ride their damn products?? And...the colors....dude.... stop making parrots, what is up with all the damn weird colors and stripes on most of the bikes like de800 , africa twins, tigers etc all got the weird lines, vivid ugly color strips, colored seats, etc. No style. Wrong areas expressed using those colors and using the wrong colors. Plus, start offering color options not just blck for the 750xl in usa, anodized ugly blue t7s or intrepid grey t7s in usa etc. COME onnnn
I was between a Tuareg and a Norden. Test rode both as a newe rider and I ended up with the Norden. I'm quite happy but as a tall guy I sometimes remember Tuareg's ergos was better (1,89 m). Totally agree with the engine. For me Tuareg's is even better than Tenere's. It's so smooth and doesn't have this on/off feeling. Loved your video, as you said I'm tailoring my Norden,... Hope I don't end up changing it for a Tuareg ..😂 Thanks, I liked your point of view very much!
@@oakdalegirl57 I'm not sure it is chinese, at least the design. it's the same as Ktm 890. I think that it is really good and powerful, but it is not a soft one (ktm style). About the price, you can find good deals, and I think that confidence that inspires the whole bike build quality, worth's the price.
Ktm 950/990 Adventure is the best adventure bike ever built, period! Rode a 20 year old 950 Adventure S, Touareg 660 and DesertX back to back lest weekend and the old KTM was superior in every aspect. That was a real eye opener!
I think the reliability issues put people off this bike, even after aprilia dropped the price theres only 210 licenced in the UK compared to nearly 3000 T7s. Ive never seen one of these on the road here.
Aprilias always have a flaw,Caponord 1000/1200,Futura, etc...the Aprilia Community is great though, always an upgrade to be found...a lot of smart people on those sites!
I have a Tenere and a Taureg, the Taureg is not nearly as good with low end grunt on steep rocky trails and the rear spring will need replacing for almost anyone, my buddy weighs 140lb and he still has to max the preload to get the sag even close to right. The Taureg is SMOOOOTH as butter and a crazy plush ride compared to the T7. The bash plate and rear shock sit about 10" on the 660, the bash plate on the T7 is 11" but the rear shock sticks down to about 9.5". I am on my tip toes on the T7 and nearly flat footed on Taureg.
What puts me off the Aprillia(for long distance, remote, multi country riding e.g. Africa) is parts and service challenges for a rare bike. The T7 may not be common, but you can ship Yamaha parts and most mechanics aren’t scared of the brand.
Great video, can you give me a comparison of the aprilia and the Yamaha in terms of the throttle response. Does the Yamaha have an abrupt or snatchy throttle. I’ve read some that say the Yamaha has that issue, thanks
Compared to the Aprilia, it’s pretty similar, but you can choose a power map on the Tuareg, so there is more variability in the response. Tenere does not have this, but with its average power and smooth torque-line, this is not an issue. Tenere - user-friendly motorcycle. I personally know off-road beginners who started with Tenere and have not any problems with this. It's definitely not so jerky as 450cc enduro/rally bikes.
Tuareg owner here. I increased slack on clutch cable and - maybe it's placebo - but quickshifter work more smoothly. Or maybe it's because I have fresh oil :P
They're slightly different. The Tenere WR is a bulletproof expeditioner, much more focused on dirt. The 800 DE is a more comfortable all-road tourer. The 800 DE is like inexpensive Africa Twin, they have similar concepts.
@@adv-moto Thanks for the reply! I only had the chance to test ride the 800DE - honestly I was amazed on how well-balanced bike they have created. As usual - there is not a perfect motorcycle and the 800DE still has tubed wheels, the noticeable engine heat, more weight and somehow not so pleasant feeling on the twisty roads (compared to the V-Strom 650 that I ride now). I mostly do long distance journeys, so only the reliability holds me off the Tuareg 660...just the thought of getting stranded somewhere east from Turkey makes me sweat.
I've been hearing nothing but good things about the Tuareg 660. They sell them where I bought my Guzzi. Were I intending to adventure off-road, I am pretty sure that would have been my bike, but alas, I haven't the time, and I hate the look of the Tuareg. But it does seem to have taken the mid-size adv market by storm.
Yep. In lower- right corner, I sign geo-locations. This one - Cortijo de El Fraile in Nijar. Actually, it's 50 km from the town where they filmed half of the Italian-Spanish westerns - Oasys Mini Hollywood Theme Park in Tabernas.

This makes total sense. Adventure bikes are meant to be all rounders. They should be the best possible at everything, cause that's what they're for. As much as I love the Tenere, the lack of tech is just not necessary.
I'm am constantly amazed by the amount of inexperienced reviews there are! Thanks for the effort, but you're not an adventure rider, you're an adventure bike rider. Stick to that...
The power is too high in the revs, the torque is low, and that seat is NOT for touring, neither is the windscreen. You compared it to a KTM but not a BMW.
4 of many main major features of the adv category-----aprilia 660failed...... comfort seat?no, wind protection? zero, reliability? nobody knows but suspects, accessories? available or not. not. 5th: visibility for night riding? not best 6th... valves every 12k? but no dealers anywhere in usa at least... not the smartest bike to buy but i love the looks and how capable it is. maybe even beats the t7?
ok, I was falling asleep when this video came on and I about popped out of bed at some of the completely inaccurate nonsense communicated in this "review". While I think the Touraeg is a great bike without question some of the statements made about KTM and Ducati are absolute BS. For one, saying that you have never met anyone who likes the KTM 790/890engine is just a stupid commentary. The one that really made me perk up was saying that the Desert X has no torque......this is where this reviewer lost all credibility, in fact, it sounds like a bot and not a human. The Desert X has the same 937 engine as the Hyper, Monster and Super Sport. This engine is off the charts torquey and with the different maps you can make it more so or less so but the DX has WAAAY more grunt hat the Toureg. The DX also handles better on road without question. I would also argue that it is more stable off road. The Toureg is a great machine and for that price is the bargain in the ADV community but these kinds of flat out uneducated comparisons will steer people in the wrong direction. I own a DX and an 890 Rally and bought them after spending a lot of time with the T7 and the Toureg. I am sorry but neither the T7 or Toureg hold a candle to the DX or 890 Rally.

COME onnnn
Plenty of dealers in Europe and the heat is welcome 10 months of the year. The problem is where you live. 😊
Nuttins perfect
I was between a Tuareg and a Norden. Test rode both as a newe rider and I ended up with the Norden. I'm quite happy but as a tall guy I sometimes remember Tuareg's ergos was better (1,89 m). Totally agree with the engine. For me Tuareg's is even better than Tenere's. It's so smooth and doesn't have this on/off feeling.
Loved your video, as you said I'm tailoring my Norden,... Hope I don't end up changing it for a Tuareg ..😂 Thanks, I liked your point of view very much!
I like the Norden but the chinese engine and price turned me off
@@oakdalegirl57 I'm not sure it is chinese, at least the design. it's the same as Ktm 890.
That was a great adventure bike! Their new stuff is gawd ugly tho and I'm a KTM guy.
Id love to swap out the spoked wheels for normal cast road wheels but don't think it can be done
I think the reliability issues put people off this bike, even after aprilia dropped the price theres only 210 licenced in the UK compared to nearly 3000 T7s.
Ive never seen one of these on the road here.
It's true.
Aprilias always have a flaw,Caponord 1000/1200,Futura, etc...the Aprilia Community is great though, always an upgrade to be found...a lot of smart people on those sites!
Thanks for your review of this good bike.
Get a Honda if yer so scared
My Tuareg quickshifter works flawlessly. Also no neutral finding issues
Good review and shit, southern Spain is so beautiful. I miss it.
Thanks for the review
I would be very curious to see your review on 800 DE and Tenere World raid. Two bikes that nobody dares to compare
Awesome review... Thanks
"Cruise control is essential". How did we survive before all this tech. 😂
I think this bike looks great.
Coming from grapevine, Tenere World Raid is coming to the US in 2024 4Q (hopefully earlier). Crossing my finger that is true.
Can you provide the data sheet you reference throughout the video? 20:42 for example
What extra does to Evolution give a buyer?
Great review of aprilla bike have been looking @ like also tenre/transalp , how tall are u as I'm 5 7 is this very tall like tenre?
The Tuareg has a narrower seat than Tenere/Transalp (especially Transalp). Transalp 750 looks same, but this is a different class, not for off-road.
at 6.1 the riders foot barely reach from regular t7. 5.7 is not the best for the t7
Gawd that Transalp is ugly
Pity the QS works only 50% ( up ) with the CC. And this bike feels heavier than the 1300 GS 🤷♂
I'm thinking the 800DE will be a good bike against the Taureg.
It weighs more than the AT1100
u cant compare 800de to tuareg , its heavier and the bike is for the road not for offroad , i guess 80/20

Do you mind sharing the location of the that monastery? It is the one from the good, the bad, the ugly trilogy right?
Yep. In lower- right corner, I sign geo-locations. This one - Cortijo de El Fraile in Nijar.
Actually, it's 50 km from the town where they filmed half of the Italian-Spanish westerns - Oasys Mini Hollywood Theme Park in Tabernas.

Motoguzzi 85TT Adventure would be a better euro comparison to the Aprila.
V85 TT is much more road oriented. And in general, due to its retro charm, there is little to compare it with. Maybe Himalayan & V100 Stelvio,
85tt is the mini panamerica :)@@adv-moto

This makes total sense. Adventure bikes are meant to be all rounders. They should be the best possible at everything, cause that's what they're for. As much as I love the Tenere, the lack of tech is just not necessary.

Why do you swap words when talking using mods/modes? Very weird.
Is this narration by ChatGPT?
you put stress on words randomly? sounds like a bad stop and go traffic :) nice video though
Right, it could be better to find a voice over actor with more calm and steady tone.
I learned that the third owner will be in trouble. :)
I'm am constantly amazed by the amount of inexperienced reviews there are! Thanks for the effort, but you're not an adventure rider, you're an adventure bike rider. Stick to that...
Most ADVs are good in dirt? Huh? The exact opposite is true
❤🎉Best
Why do you keep adding a 's' on words that don't require it? Are you just reading from a ChatGPT produced script?
Is this an AI generated channel?
The power is too high in the revs, the torque is low, and that seat is NOT for touring, neither is the windscreen. You compared it to a KTM but not a BMW.
The BMW 850 is incredibly heavy, it's not a competitor to the KTM, Aprilia or Yamaha.
4 of many main major features of the adv category-----aprilia 660failed...... comfort seat?no, wind protection? zero, reliability? nobody knows but suspects, accessories? available or not. not. 5th: visibility for night riding? not best 6th... valves every 12k? but no dealers anywhere in usa at least... not the smartest bike to buy but i love the looks and how capable it is. maybe even beats the t7?
why is the footage so good but the narration engrish?
How is it Engrish?

ok, I was falling asleep when this video came on and I about popped out of bed at some of the completely inaccurate nonsense communicated in this "review".
Had one nothing but problems had to get rid…not reliable
