I think they've got it right. It makes more sense than a big adventure bike for the vast majority of riders that will never venture offroad. A fantastic historical marque with modern design with a hint of character and great Realworld abilities.

I think the bike is a little bit retro and out of date. Not that sports touring is out of date but i think the bike doesn’t compete. Its not on par with the 1200 and 1250 bikes. Its over priced with the 900 - 950 range but makes that kind of power. Maybe its better than the Triumph 1200s but its priced way higher than they are. So you say its a better sports tourer? One of my bikes is a 2005 BMW R1200ST. My ST carries more luggage, has the same power and is lighter. Electronics? Yes the Guzzi has electronics. But thats already been invented ad developed, that makes the price of it cheap to install, you just tune it in for the models characteristics. No need for big pricing for that. Oh yea, my R1200ST has ohlins front and rear as well, plus a telelever front and no shaft jacking with a paralever rear suspension.

@@michaeldobson8859 Sorry Michael but as someone who owns a K1200R and loves it, this bike will ride MUCH better 0 doubt about it. A lot has happend in close to 20 years. Looks and style is ofc subjective, i think it looks fantastic!
With that said, glad you like your bike. Old BMW's are dope :)

@@michaeldobson8859 I recently sold my 2017 BMW R1200 RS. Nice engine but i found it uncomfortable and didn't get on with the handling. I'd take the Guzzi over a BMW any day and ref the price, compare apples with apples a similar specced GS would be in the region of £20,000.

Thanks for a great review - I test rode the standard V100 last week and was really impressed with it. The only niggle I had was that the suspension seemed a little harsh and I think the better quality of the Ohlins and ease of adjustment on the V100S will be worth the extra cost. I was convinced enough to order one! I think I have made the right choice 😍

Just looking at it from a spectators point of view, I think it is a lovely looking bike. Given that "Europe Wide" speed limits are being enforced more severely, the days of the 180 mph motorcycle are likely to become less frequent. To me at least, the idea of a touring holiday, is to ride at a speed where you can actually look at your surroundings as opposed to them being a blurr! This will give you the ability to do that and convey you to your destination in style and comfort. 10/10 M.G. you've created a lovely sports tourer!

    • @lazios
      @lazios 2 роки тому +2

I've (probably because of my English) some trouble to understand your comment (even if I share your touring bike idea); from what you write it seems that the V100 is not powerful enough, but (actually) it has the right horsepower to be who it is: a sport-tourer good and fun even on mixed-roads.
Of course it doesn't have the power of a ss or a sport-naked but why it should have? If a person wants (for example) a sport naked can buy an Aprilia Tuono, a Streetfighter (or some Jap if doesn't love Italian bikes) but why buy this?
In short, its horsepower and torque (almost 120hp and more than 105Nm) are perfect for tourism but are also enough for fun on road (don't forget that's a twin-cylinder).
I hope, despite my English (sorry), I've explained what I mean. 🍺
PS I tested it (the base version, not the S with the adaptive ohlins) and above 6000rpm it still pushes, you don't feel any vibrations, the front is safe and stable, the bike "goes down" easily (only the gearbox has some inaccuracies but they told me that it would be solved it with the first models on sale); already with the riding position, I immediately had the right feeling, which was confirmed on the road, it's a very good bike.
Again, I'm sorry, I would like to explain most accurately and precisely, unfortunately the language prevents it.👍

      @theodoremarakas9899 2 роки тому

Nobody riding on public roads needs 200hp or 200mph top speed. Anything around 100hp is more than adequate. However, torque is what makes the difference. The more the better. By the way, I own 3 Guzzis and never once I thought that they were severely underpowered for public streets. If I want to be a Hooligan, I have several other bikes for that.

Proud owner of a V7, and I completely agree, like most Guzzi’s this one is a tool built not only for transportation, but inspiration as well. There are faster bikes no doubt, but on a Guzzi it’s all about enjoying the experience and connection between man and machine.

Got back and googled the power and couldn't believe it was only 47bhp or around there. I'm sure the V100 will be the same, it will feel much quicker than a 115bhp engine or whatever it is

i’ve never enjoyed listening to someone talk about a motorcycle more than this.
genuine enthusiasm non bias impartial and knowledgeable.
you’d make and incredibly effective motorcycle salesman, not because you can sell, but because you have knowledge about the different bikes and experience riding.
this combination would makes for an easy decision when buying a motorcycle. when we want a motorcycle we already know what we want, with your input, the buyer can be easily direct towards a select few motorcycles and at that point choose the one he/she wants.
i bought a 2022 Triumph Scrambler 1200XC, glad i did, love the bike, but i wish i found you and this video before i made that purchase.

Guzzi's best-ever bike (it sure seems), and hugely desirable even against some pretty damned good competition. And the most important point he made was it was designed for a purpose, not to be a place-holder in a line-up that needs to be super quick or brash. Will be in the Eternal Garage!

Thank you Michael, been waiting for a proper 'Neevesy' evaluation of the V100, first saw the pictures 12 months ago and loved the look of the Mandello V100, it's been a long time in the making it seems, so to hear you loved it, it's great, as a self-confessed Sports bike rider, sadly in my getting older years now, a Sports Tourer is I think my best option, and probably the V100 direct competitor is the BMW RS and the two I would most be looking at, so it would be brill if you and MCN did a direct comparison in the coming months, just need to save some pennies now. 👍

Mr. Neeves does a so much more in depth and interesting a review than the others I've watched. Michael always gets to the heart and soul of the bike and tells us about the character of the bike and what kind of rider will fit with that particular machine. He is unmatched -- even against those 22 times two naughty Pommie boys.
Looks like someone has setup a home video studio for Michael that really ups the production values. Very good lighting, clear audio and nice editing touches. The occasional hunting in the camera focus seems sometimes intentional and sometimes inadvertent.

The lemans had a big bore kit, custom exhaust, Corbin seat, 40mm dellorto's and a bigger Marzzoki front forks and rear sets. I did 250 kms commute for years on it. Loved her despite the pain in the wrists, back etc. At speeds above go to jail in Australia she was like a train and shamed many a boy on a sports bike if the roads smooth. However at low speed she provided great experience in getting air on a road bike!

Great review Michael and Guzzi really seem to have pulled a blinder with this bike. What impresses me is the quality of the bike. It oozes quality and I love the way it looks and sounds. So refreshing to see such a practical real world design which doesn’t chase the power wars yet has plenty on tap and with a big fat midrange where you need it most. I’d imagine that makes for effortless, relaxed progress and easy overtaking. It’s been too long waiting for a bike of this calibre to come along with such intelligent, wise design. I almost regret now just buying a low miles 1200 RS but that is an excellent bike too along similar lines. Wish I had the space for two bikes as I wouldn’t hesitate to buy a V100 S. big thumbs up from me👍. They’re onto a winner with this one.

When the small spoilers opened, I could tell they were diverting the air out and around my torso, so they actually do work to make the cockpit a comfortable place to put in the miles. After taking a v100 S out for a test drive I bought a pre-registered v100 for £10.2k, I collect in a few days but already booked into MCT suspension for Darren to work his magic. What a bike, wasn’t sure of the white paint scheme but in the flesh it looks fantastic

I’ve been tracking this bike since it’s first appearance at EICMA in 2021 and this is far and away the most detailed & informative review I’ve come across. Thanks Mike! 👍🏽

Beautiful, in-depth review. This bike is gorgeous. Love the look water cooled motor. Unique DRL, single sided swingle arm with shaft drive. The color is fantastic. I would buy one if a dealership was nearby In Hawaii.

Nice review. I've 30" leg, so with the Guzzi I can sit on it a touch the ground. So many bikes these days, I can't put feet flat on on the road, especially adventure bikes. I own Pan European, no problem putting feet down with the Pan.
My only complaint about the Guzzi is the front mudgaurd, which is useless (other brands also guilty of this). When it's wet, all the road shite will cake the front of the engine.
Have seen a photo with panniers attached, looks great.

This is what I’ve been waiting for. I had the end of line Griso 1200SE and loved it but ultimately not comfortable enough. Rock hard suspension too. I don’t weigh much and had to back off the suspension a lot. The rear was on its softest setting but on anything but glass smooth roads it was painful, especially with that seat. I still managed two 400mile back to back days taking it to the Guzzi factory in Mandela via the Swiss alps in 2019 for the ‘factory open weekend’ though. I needed an air hawk seat mind…. The ‘S’ is too much money. If I sold both my current bikes I could squeeze the base model into my life but I’m concerned about that suspension. Some are saying it’s pretty firm. A test ride is on the cards I feel. A nice review. You’re always worth watching, thanks.

I don't care much for ADV bikes, but the way this bike looks calls to me. That green color just suits it perfectly too. I can't afford to get one now, in my riding career, but it's going on my list of bikes I would seriously like to own.

It's amazing how consistently motorcycle journalists get the transverse/longitudinal thing wrong! Moto Guzzis have LONGITUDINALLY mounted engines! Harleys etc. have transversaly mounted engines.
It's determined by the direction of the crank shaft. All conventional singles, parallel and V twins, in line 4s, and all tripples exept the Triumph Rocket 3 are transverse, Guzzis, Boxers, and the Rocket Triple are longitudinal!

Just watched this video while researching the V100. I noticed Michael got the definition of transverse vs. longitudinal back-to-front. I was going to post something, then I saw your post. You are 100 percent correct. It amazes me how many motor cyclists get this one wrong. Nice to know I'm not on my own. Always good for a discussion at any gathering of motorcyclists!

Great review, thoughtful and honest and reinforces my fascination with this bike. One nibby point; in your summary you described at as a MotoGuzzi V11 Mandello S. I know you know it’s a V100 but I thought you’d enjoy being reminded. Yes it’s pedantry but that is both my duty and my pleasure. 😊

I think the flaps may be more for preventing buffeting at higher speeds than redirecting belly air. Bikes with smaller screens are often really good at sending turbulent air at the helmet. Preventing air from coming up from underneath and mixing with the air coming off the little screen likely prevents that to some degree. Cruisers have sold fork wings for ages to redirect that air from coming up around the tank and causing double vision at interstate speeds.

Nice video, thanks! Note that you got transverse and longitudinal engine layout muddled up. Transverse is crank parallel to wheel axles, i.e most inline fours. These guzzi twins are longitudinal, crank arranged so cylinders run front to back i.e Goldwing, Pan European, BMW GS, etc. Quite why guzzi say transverse is unbeknownst to me! Maybe because the cylinders stick out.

My deposit was ready for an S, but when I seen the gold wheels deleted, red instead of Orginal yellow stripe gone, to many colours really, the standard red or white ones are better looking with gold wheels. You can option the missing bits from the S, with the exception of the track day Ohlins suspension, which you dont need for touring. Best new bike in last 10 years, surprised Q/S works so well on dry clutch, engine heat will be a problem, less so in leathers. Only problem will be getting one in 2023, other manufacturers will be scratching their heads, cheap for what your getting.

An excellent and comprehensive review, from a very experienced and knowledgeable rider. Well done MN. I didn't like it when it first appeared, thought it a bit Triumph Stag like (overly ornate), but it has grown on me, I like the unique style, very distinctive. Think the winglets are a bit of a gimmick and I prefer the look of the base version anyway. The one criticism of the V85 TT is that some people think it is underpowered (tested figure 67bhp not 80bhp), so bet they make a V100 TT.

I just looked at this bike yesterday and was very impressed. Build quality seems excellent and I like the styling. I understand that this is Moto Guzzi's first liquid-cooled engine. I know first attempts sometimes don't go well (like Porsche''s first water cooled engines) so this would be a concern for me. And yes it does site quite a bit lower than my Africa Twin.
