Why not start the u-turn test on the other side of the parked car? No bike needs less than 1 space. At least not the mandello. Hope you get to test the Stelio too. Keep it up

No they are not. For people outside of the USA he doesn't give you any metric data about seat height or weight. And I get it, for a typical American its really hard to comprehend, but yea, actually there is a whole big world out there, it's not just USA... Secondly he doesn't show you a seating position, saying it's more or less comfortable just isn't enough. This review is over half an hour long, I'm sure Zach could of find a minute to show it...
@@fiucik1 I'm also outside the US and don't mind the lack of metrics... Just convert the units you find usefull, i do it for the MPG the rest for me is just a question of opinion. Just watch the video and take of it what you want. At the end of it all, if the bike is interesting to you, go see your local dealer and sit your ass on it. It will be the only way to know if it suits you. And if you don't like the channel, just don't watch it. No need for hate here.

It’s a hard bike to quantify, it’s not a sport bike, touring bike, standard or naked……it’s kinda of all of them! It’s a bike that isn’t for a new, and dare I say “young rider”. It won’t get appreciated enough for what it is. The V100 is a fantastic bike with a ton of character, as well as being charismatic and quirky all at the same time. You don’t have to ride it fast….although you can. It’s a bike that will do enough of anything you desire of it yet do it from a pure enjoyment aspect of “riding a motorcycle”. Those with a lot of riding experience will know what I mean, and that’s not to exclude anyone. Anyway, to me, owning mine and have 15+ years of Moto experience, the V100 is such a pleasure to ride and even a greater pleasure to talk about all while having a cappuccino and staring at it. ❤🎉☕️😃👍
I caught the Moto Guzzi bug too. On my third one. Something else to add is that Guzzi riders are some of the nicest, most helpful riders here in the US.
I have put 4000 miles on my V100 S, have been extremely pleased with the bike. I have done a 400 mile plus day trip and was not tired at all. Overall this is a great machine. I like it so much I bought the new Stelvio two weeks ago.
I am in this boat right now i have a griso 1100 had a mgx21 and a breva 750 and a griso 1200. I am torn on the v100s or the new stelvio. The stelvio i have been reading the quick shifter was vastly improved and it has a bit more suspension travel so the "harshness" i am hoping was reworkd and better on the stelvio?
@@sublimekid247 Stelvio transmission has been improved, and I am sure the 24 Mandello will receive the same updates. Stelvio does not come with a quickshifter. I Have on order the quickshifter, heated grips and seat, Multimedia, along with a few other bits. Hopefully they will arrive early March. I am 6' 1" 210lbs, and the Stelvio does provide more room. 200 miles on the odom, and I like it.
I have a Mandello for 6 months, I rode it 5000 km, and I can tell that’s an excellent review! Winglets do make a difference when cold or rainy wether. Well done ! And yeah, I’ve got the S version, the semi-active Olhins do a great work👍
I miss a shaft drive for the peculiar riding it offers and most of all for the lack of maintenance it has. It should be offered on more bikes at least as an option. I live in the city and every time i have to clean and lube my chain on the side of the street where my bike sleeps, i think about the fact that my next bike will need to have a freaking shaft.
Most BMWs have shaft drive. My one chain driven bike is my biggest frustration due to all the maintenance needed. If you only do short rides, a chain isn’t as big a deal. But if you tour, you could be having to clean & lube the chain every day or two. That alone makes shaft drive a huge benefit on touring bikes.
@@desertedcake My oldest shaft drive bike is a 1972 BMW R75/5. It has been going for more than 50 years without having to repair the shaft. In over 25 years of riding and owning 6 shaft driven bikes, I’ve never had a shaft drive break and only needed changing the fluid as service every 12K miles. Meanwhile my chain driven bike had to have the chain & sprockets replaced which wasn’t exactly cheap. Comparing overall maintenance costs with all the lube & cleaner every 500 miles plus replacing chain & sprockets vs fluid replacement on the shaft once, my chain driven bike has been >10X as expensive over 15K miles as a shaft driven bike.
The tank wings most certainly do something....in very cold weather and in the rain they do a good job of keeping the weather off your legs and, er, groin. Great vid.
I agree. Wings certainly help keep the groin more comfortable in cold wet weather. A great review as always. I’ve had mine for six months and have loved every minute on it. A blip of the throttle always puts a smile on my face.
Agreed. They make a huge difference in the rain and a very noticeable difference in the cold. I have them switched off in every mode except Rain, and then use Rain mode when the weather is particularly cold or wet. The wings in combination with raising the screen provides a very comfortable little 'cocoon' in adverse conditions.
I agree as well as I've tested it a little on mine. Upper leg/thigh/waist area was a little less cold. California weather or warmer weather you won't notice much if anything.
Best bike I have owned in almost 55 years of riding. My previous best was a GS1000S Suzuki which handled really well, had great fuel economy even at silly speeds, and a seriously comfortable seat which was great for almost a thousand miles (1500 kms) in a day in my 20s. The Guzzi has a better front end (S model), great electronics and general ergonomics. Seat is quite a bit lower than my MV Turismo Veloce, which I only ride these days to keep the battery and running gear fresh. I’m going to get the higher ‘comfort’ (heated) seat because I’d prefer a little higher riding position, but that’s the only gripe. Goes really well, too 😎

I have a v7 850. Great bike that needs just a few upgrades but is wonderful stock (besides an ecu flash). All i want now is the retro/naked/roadster version of the v100 engine and i can finally chuck my Triumph speed twin 1200 away. And i can say i have a performance and a cruiser guzzi! Long live moto guzzi!!
I've owned 2 Guzzi Norges, an Aprilia Futura, and a Ducati ST4s. This looks to be another Italian machine in that vein = so wonder I was drawn to this from the first time I saw it. The first photos I saw of the S showed it with gold wheels on the green, which I love! I *HATE* black wheels - I either want an S model in red, or gold wheels on the green one! Really good review and I'd say a realistic review of this machine, all the while paying homage to its carrying the torch for Italian quirkiness!
I'm kind of with you there. I want the white in the S trim. I just think the S color scheme makes this bike look average, but the solid colors with gold trim really highlight the stunning lines of the bike, and especially in white. It's perhaps the best looking bike on the market right now. Certainly much, much better than all of its direct competitors.
I though I didn't like black wheels until owned the bike (V100S) and now I won't go back to lighter color wheels. All that BLACK brake dust makes the lighter wheel look really crappy in short order. True, in a picture they are great. On a longer ride they annoy me announcing "clean me" after a hundred miles. The black wheels hide that annoyance until you get home.
At this point in my life, motorcycles are so reliable, fast, and powerful compared to motorcycles of the past, how comfortable it is and how it looks are the biggest factor in choosing a new one. The V100 is a beautiful bike and is likely very comfortable, although I haven't ridden one yet. Also, you really can't overstate how wonderful a big twin is on the highway. They just have such a huge power band. You never have to downshift. If you need to pass or want to speed up, you just point the bike and go. A twin cylinder 1000CC + bike is just ideal if you are going to do significant highway riding.
I've owned 3 guzzis, can't wait to see how it stacks up! Sounds like it still does the guzzi thing, pulls like a freight train, handles, and is comfy. That's all I need to know! Gratzi mille 🙏🏻

I would love to own this bike! I have owned a lot of Guzzi's and have a 74 Eldodado and a V85TT in the garage.The problem is I always buy used and I'm getting to old to wait for it to depreciate down to what I want to spend. Yup I'm cheap.
Wow Ok. Haven't considered a Moto Guzzi seriously until now. They nailed the styling IMO, and it has design cues that remind me of a few of my favorite bikes from another era. I could live with this everyday. A Moto Guzzi .. in my garage. Never thought it but hell, this looks like the one to try!
I ride a 90s 1100 Moto Guzzi. It's fast, fun, lots of character, super reliable, low maintenance. Someone is always asking me about it. I'm sure the Mandello is an amazing motorcycle.
@@ehiggins7476 i had a 2011 ninja 1000 and purely subjective but my griso 1100 with less then 1/2 the HP was vastly more fun to ride and I desired to ride it where the ninja didnt give me that feeling.
The forces on the windshield at higher speeds are likely enough that it would damage the mechanism which is probably why they inhibit it above a certain speed
The V100 strikes me as a 21st Century version of a UJM. It is not a sport tourer or a sport bike, it is just a bike that does everything well but isn't a specialist. That is a very good thing.
I test rode one a few months ago and fell in love! And one of the reasons was its engine and its power delivery and feel! Of course I loved the looks too and the handling. It is a bit tall and heavy for my size though, but I guess I can get used to it. But I would die for a new MotoGuzzi Griso with this exact engine and suspensions!
Great review, having owned my V100 now for almost a year I can wholeheartly agree. Once you "inprove" a few areas, it gets so much better in the process. For me it is a longterm keeper!

Zack, I agree with just about every point you made, and understand why you like the engine so much. To those that complain that it's not sporty enough, you're trying to ride it too fast (It's not an R1), and to those that complain it's not as comfy as a Gold Wing - you're not riding it fast enough to enjoy the chassis and engine. As a SoCal road racer/rider with 61 years experience (I started in diapers haha) I have learned the hard way that the best quality suspension and/or custom valving that money can buy along with very light weight wheels are more than worth whatever they cost. So I'm mystified why you chose the base model to test when I'm guessing most buyers looking at this Italian semi-exotic opt for the s model at $2k-ish more. The electronic suspension has correct settings available, if you know how to setup suspension, and a different setup can be selected for each riding mode. Though the system looks different, it is functionally the same as the software on my 1290 Superadventure s. I too figured the active aero was bs until the first time I rode it in the cold, I changed into sport mode during a ride thus retracting the flaps, and suddenly felt the cold on my thighs. Waddya know, it actually does something.... There are are a few easy mods that are good improvements, the biggest one is to ditch the round section Pirrelli angel GT's in favor of pointy profile Dunlop roadsmart 4's. The improvement in steering feel and chassis neutrality is dramatic. I also swapped the windscreen for a Puig touring screen. The one I selected is only slightly larger, so when all the way down it is the same height as the stock screen fully raised, and when up deflects most bugs from hitting your faceshield. I wouldn't put a barn door screen on this bike, but to each his own. I'm over 6' tall, so the heated comfort seat gave me more leg room.
My grandmother replaced her Beamer with a Guzzi. It was the last bike she owned, before a stroke ended her riding days. I never got to ride it (too young), but I always thought it was cool. I did own a CX 500 for a while as a kid, and I loved that little bike, even it was a bit milquetoast in performance. I think the Mandello is gorgeous. Gonna have to take a look! 😃
I am a lifelong Guzzista, and I own several Guzzi (the latest one is a V85TT). Last year I test rode a V100 (base model) and I didn’t like the seating position and the suspension that much. But man, the engine and the handling are absolutely amazing. The engine pulls strongly at every RPM and with confidence, without being overly aggressive. The handling is not super quick and requires a bit of input (engagement), but it’s extremely stable and predictive (and it’s still quicker than other Guzzis)
I just got a V85 last year (first Guzzi) and I'm hooked. The new Stelvio looks sweet too but is a bit pricier than I'd like to stomach, despite the extra power in a similar weight class. Are you planning to upgrade or happy with your V85?

The Stelvio is too expensive and big for me, the V85TT engine is enough for my skills and use of the bike and I love the retro styling of the smaller bike. The Stelvio looks nice, but loses in comparison to the V85TT imho. The new V85TT looks very interesting, with updated fairing with more wind protection, updated engine with VVT and IMU platform, but I heard that it will come with a considerable price increase…
The V100 and a Yamaha FJR are the two bikes I'm currently trying to decide between for my next purchase. The FJR wins most of the spec sheet battles, and realistically covers more of the things I need from my next bike, but that V100 is obscenely good looking and the engine is the best of any bike I've ever ridden.
@stiggy186 I'd suggest adding a R1200RT to your list. Bargain used pricing these days. Lighter than FJR, although not as powerful. Still, powerful enough and totally awesome on the highway and decent in curves.
I took one for a test ride. Loved it. The only issue I had was, with my very short 27 inseam, I struggled to get the side stand down. I thought for sure I'm going to drop this beautiful thing. It's positioned in a place where the pipe is kind of in the way. Other than that great bike.

I have my v100 for a few months and about 4000 miles, 250 mile plus days and commuting. Added a taller screen and a top box, and love the engine. It’s a roadster tourer and it’s my first commuter tourer bike that I did not have to add risers or upgrade the seat. 6’ tall 32” inseam.
I love that engine! Two observations: - Those were some stout footless stops. - We need a 3rd person camera shot of Zack going down lover's lane on the passenger seat while talking to himself 😂
Saw this bike in red last week with the gold valve covers and wheels. Immediately response was that I got the James May fizzy feeling. Not rich enough to be a Guzzi man but would be in a heartbeat. Their bikes are stunners.
I've had dozens of bikes and recently tested this one and it really was special. The indicator of my test rides is always how do I feel about giving the keys back, and in this case very reluctant. Definitely tops my list of Swiss Army knife bikes and has loads of character to boot. A brilliant machine.
That's part of what started my introduction into motorcycling. Just watching videos and now I'm my second year of riding. Creeping up on fifty also helped in the decision to give it a try "one of these days".
When you got to the leaderboard, it pained me to think it was better than the Kawasaki Z900 - Kawi's very probably my favorite motorcycle brand - , but I did think so. And the way you talked so much about that bike and sounded so excited doing so just showed me how good it it seems. And it's an effing sport-touring bike, my favorite style! I want one BADLY! I had a test ride on a V100 and after seeing your video I noticed we had the same reaction in terms of squeals and giggles :D it's definitely a fun bike with a lot of potential.
If I had the garage space I would put this in it along side my Aprillia Tuareg 660. I love the way it looks and the shaft drive is the icing on the cake. Give me one in green! Although the upcoming Stelvio looks insane
Very good, and honest review. This bike leans more towards sport than comfort. I hope the California comes back, and leans towards comfort. I love the engine and the drive shaft on the Moto Guzzi bikes.
I stopped motorbiking 2 years ago, after some 15 bikes. The second was a brand new Moto Guzzi Sport 1100 and the only one I miss today. When I accidentally faced the V100 in green recently, my eyes almost fell off. What a perfect piece of beauty! 21k€ was too much to pay to fulfill my esthetic desires, but still, this is a gorgeous bike in real. Guzzi has the feel for balance, shape and colours. With too much money, I would have bought it right there and then.
I have a v100s. The active aero is kind of useless except in the rain. Helps push the rain away from your waist. I've never gotten better than 39mpg... but I'm heavy handed :) . Coming from an Indian scout I find the v100 fairly light and better balanced. The semi active suspension works very well, it's not a gimmick like in some models.
Excellent review... the mandello is like a fine wine, gets better with time, mine certainly has with more miles under its belt, just gets better and better.. and that engine, full of character with plenty of real world power and it's fun

I have the V100S, ~6,000 miles in so far, and let me invite you on a ride when it is 48 degrees out. You'll be very unhappy when the aero is retracted! People make judgements on this when it is too warm. Same as my ARAI Signet-X helmet, lots of airflow when it is warm that I never notice, at 48 it's REALLY cool around the ears. The reserve function switches to shows the miles to empty in the odometer based on how you are riding. That's nice over a guess empty. Standard 65-70 MPH cruise I get 52-54 MPG. But no, it doesn't abandon you. Granted I hopped onto this from a 1992 BMW R100RT, that was ALL low-end torque, so to me thise V100S engine needs to be 3K and up to work. The BMW would pull hard from 1000 RPM and never complain. The V100S is super easy to keep reved up, though so no problem but it is an engine that rewards RPM. The Ohlins with me aboard, 150 LBS wet, is pretty good but not soft by any means. Rdiges do hit harder than I would like opn broknen pavement. Outside of that it does very well. I really need the next softer shock for my weight. I was waiting for a bike like the R100RT that was liquid cooled, shaft drive, reasonably light and modern and with more of a sport bent but not so much it can't to everything pretty good. This bike took far too long to arrive! I absolutely love it. I didn't really require it to be a twin, but I love the engine layout riding the bike. And no, the cylinders are less an issue than on my 1970 750F Honda.

The S iS more… from having tested both I absolutely would cough up the extra cash. One thing I can’t agree with is the seat. I think it’s lovely and so did the misses as a pillion rider.
Briefly looked at the V100 when shopping for a two-up capable bike late last year, wife loved the look of it. Ended up with a '04 VFR-800, but I appreciate how different this bike is (transverse v-twin, bike is all about its motor, etc). I think that's where the Z-900 suffers, it just doesn't stand out to me in any way. Love the reviews as always.
The active aero does work in conjunction with the wind shield taking the wind load off the riders chest. Stock suspension on the base model is a paradox with springs that are way too stiff for sporty riding solo. They are more suited for two up or touring. The ergonomics are fairly comfortable for all-day riding as well. Traction and braking intervention can be tailored in each of the ride modes as with the active aero.
I took it for test drive it last summer in a hot summer day my legs were fried from the heat and i return it to dealershift.If u can live with the leg heat the bike its great.
I was spooked by the white a4 creeping forwards when zack is checking the brakes 19:50 I really do not understand the thinking pattern of those drivers creeping forwards when red lights on. And worse they are often the ones who respond the green light late 😊
And I do wish he would head check at least every minute on the dirt section as trains can creep up on you. With the large puddles, Zack, you're a gonner that close to the tracks.
In the last 3 months I tried : the Goldwing bagger 2023, the Africa Twin DCT AS 2023, the Triumph Tiger 1200 2024, the Hayabusa 2023, the Moto Guzzi Stelvio 2024, and the V100 Mandello S 2023. And I own a X-ADV 750 from Honda. Have had numerous bikes like a lot of you guys and girls : Honda Transalp 600, Honda VFR 750, Suzuki GSXR 1100, Honda CBR 900, Suzuki DR 800, Suzuki Intruder 1400, etc... What I can say is this: of all the modern bikes I tried, the V100 Mandello was the most fun to ride. Had the most character. Gave me the biggest grin. The Goldwing came in close second place. The Mandello reminds me of my old VFR 750. The riding position, the feeling of the bike. But with more character. So my choice has been made, it will be the Guzzi ! I'm in love with this bike. Fell in love as soon as I sat on it and turned it on. That noise !!! The seat is the most confortable of all the bikes I tried recently. Will be perfect for long tours. The engine is magic, and the looks ! Best bike of 2023. By far. I'm just scared of the reliability... but will go for it anyway. That's how much I love this bike. With passion. The first Moto Guzzi I ever rode, but now I understand why they have such a cult following.
hi there,i'v owned a v100 s for a year and a half and reliability has been 100% perfect..the fact that guzzi has been giving their bikes a 3 year full warrenty for a very long time at least from the mid 90's should tell you that the brand is confident in their machines..you are going to love it man..like you i'v had loads of bikes some of them the same as the ones you mention and i am most impressed and satisfied with this v100 s guzzi..its that engine that does it..i think the best engine i have ever owned..and yes an engine with 120hp can be more fun to ride than a 200hp superbike engine..its dificult to explain why but it does happen..maybe its the delivery of power..i dont know but my honda 900rr from 1992 had 120hp and when you rode it it felt more powerfull than a modern 200hp superbike engine..and all that torque..the last bike i had was a 2013 zx10r,tuned with everything including fancy oz wheels,i love the modern kawasaki bikes..i was afraid for going from the kawi to the guzzi engine becouse of the power difrence,i shouldent have been,the v100 is simply massive..good luck ..
The speed limit on the windshield is a really good idea. On the ST1300, which had one of the earliest electronically adjustable windshields, it's pretty well established that the mechanism will wear rapidly if you adjust it at freeway speeds. Quite a few people on the forums have reported a stripped gear in the motor after trying to adjust the windshield above, say, 80mph.
It’s Italian your buying moving art that is unique. Yes, many bikes do the same thing but the aesthetics’s pull on your heart strings without even riding.
A corvette and a Lambo are both sports cars. They accomplish the same thing. Which one pulls your heart strings. A Toyota Camry is a sedan similar to bmw 3 series. Both are transportation. Which one is more of an adventure when in use. Does one provide more excitement when driving?
I really enjoy mine. Charcter, comfort, ridability (no matter location) is great. It's a bike that would take several bikes to replace it. Oh and I love the looks and uniqueness. It has some minor cons like smalish fuel tank, wind screen, screen needs more adjustability, rear suspemsion seems limited even on the S verson.
Active Aerodynamic Louvers may be materially helpful in long distance touring in wet and cold weather - according to reviews by riders in the UK and others. Sounds credible to me. But if you don’t ride in those conditions then it probably doesn’t make much difference. Reviewers also say the S model is a huge upgrade largely due to the semi-active Ohlin’s suspension. Also sounds credible. Thanks very much for your thoughtful review. This definitely strikes me as a bike with interesting character.
I've read that the aero is about keeping rain off your legs and diverting some wind around your waist, which might have an effect on fuel economy at freeway speeds on longer distance tours (as opposed to a hop during a commute, not sure if you took it for a longer ride).
When the fuel range meter disappears at about 80klm on mine, they then start counting up from 0 klm upwards at a different place on the lower left of the dashboard. Gotta love those eyetalian quirks.

@@fiucik1 I'm also outside the US and don't mind the lack of metrics... Just convert the units you find usefull, i do it for the MPG the rest for me is just a question of opinion. Just watch the video and take of it what you want. At the end of it all, if the bike is interesting to you, go see your local dealer and sit your ass on it. It will be the only way to know if it suits you.
And if you don't like the channel, just don't watch it. No need for hate here.

Sometimes I use videos similar to this to wind down and start getting to sleep but I always end up so interested in the bike that I stay up watching the whole thing lol
It’s a hard bike to quantify, it’s not a sport bike, touring bike, standard or naked……it’s kinda of all of them! It’s a bike that isn’t for a new, and dare I say “young rider”. It won’t get appreciated enough for what it is. The V100 is a fantastic bike with a ton of character, as well as being charismatic and quirky all at the same time. You don’t have to ride it fast….although you can. It’s a bike that will do enough of anything you desire of it yet do it from a pure enjoyment aspect of “riding a motorcycle”. Those with a lot of riding experience will know what I mean, and that’s not to exclude anyone. Anyway, to me, owning mine and have 15+ years of Moto experience, the V100 is such a pleasure to ride and even a greater pleasure to talk about all while having a cappuccino and staring at it. ❤🎉☕️😃👍

I caught the Moto Guzzi bug too. On my third one. Something else to add is that Guzzi riders are some of the nicest, most helpful riders here in the US.

I have put 4000 miles on my V100 S, have been extremely pleased with the bike. I have done a 400 mile plus day trip and was not tired at all. Overall this is a great machine. I like it so much I bought the new Stelvio two weeks ago.
I am in this boat right now i have a griso 1100 had a mgx21 and a breva 750 and a griso 1200. I am torn on the v100s or the new stelvio. The stelvio i have been reading the quick shifter was vastly improved and it has a bit more suspension travel so the "harshness" i am hoping was reworkd and better on the stelvio?
@@sublimekid247 Stelvio transmission has been improved, and I am sure the 24 Mandello will receive the same updates. Stelvio does not come with a quickshifter. I Have on order the quickshifter, heated grips and seat, Multimedia, along with a few other bits. Hopefully they will arrive early March. I am 6' 1" 210lbs, and the Stelvio does provide more room. 200 miles on the odom, and I like it.

I have a Mandello for 6 months, I rode it 5000 km, and I can tell that’s an excellent review! Winglets do make a difference when cold or rainy wether. Well done ! And yeah, I’ve got the S version, the semi-active Olhins do a great work👍

Shaft drive is rare these days and needs to be highlighted as a major feature and also explains it higher weight 😎
I miss a shaft drive for the peculiar riding it offers and most of all for the lack of maintenance it has. It should be offered on more bikes at least as an option. I live in the city and every time i have to clean and lube my chain on the side of the street where my bike sleeps, i think about the fact that my next bike will need to have a freaking shaft.
Most BMWs have shaft drive. My one chain driven bike is my biggest frustration due to all the maintenance needed. If you only do short rides, a chain isn’t as big a deal. But if you tour, you could be having to clean & lube the chain every day or two. That alone makes shaft drive a huge benefit on touring bikes.
Shaftdrives are great until they break!
@@desertedcake My oldest shaft drive bike is a 1972 BMW R75/5. It has been going for more than 50 years without having to repair the shaft. In over 25 years of riding and owning 6 shaft driven bikes, I’ve never had a shaft drive break and only needed changing the fluid as service every 12K miles. Meanwhile my chain driven bike had to have the chain & sprockets replaced which wasn’t exactly cheap. Comparing overall maintenance costs with all the lube & cleaner every 500 miles plus replacing chain & sprockets vs fluid replacement on the shaft once, my chain driven bike has been >10X as expensive over 15K miles as a shaft driven bike.
My old 1984 Honda Nighthawk 700s had a shaft drive, loved that little bike
The tank wings most certainly do something....in very cold weather and in the rain they do a good job of keeping the weather off your legs and, er, groin. Great vid.
I agree. Wings certainly help keep the groin more comfortable in cold wet weather. A great review as always. I’ve had mine for six months and have loved every minute on it. A blip of the throttle always puts a smile on my face.

Agreed. They make a huge difference in the rain and a very noticeable difference in the cold. I have them switched off in every mode except Rain, and then use Rain mode when the weather is particularly cold or wet. The wings in combination with raising the screen provides a very comfortable little 'cocoon' in adverse conditions.
I agree as well as I've tested it a little on mine. Upper leg/thigh/waist area was a little less cold. California weather or warmer weather you won't notice much if anything.
Best bike I have owned in almost 55 years of riding. My previous best was a GS1000S Suzuki which handled really well, had great fuel economy even at silly speeds, and a seriously comfortable seat which was great for almost a thousand miles (1500 kms) in a day in my 20s. The Guzzi has a better front end (S model), great electronics and general ergonomics. Seat is quite a bit lower than my MV Turismo Veloce, which I only ride these days to keep the battery and running gear fresh. I’m going to get the higher ‘comfort’ (heated) seat because I’d prefer a little higher riding position, but that’s the only gripe. Goes really well, too 😎

I have a v7 850. Great bike that needs just a few upgrades but is wonderful stock (besides an ecu flash).
All i want now is the retro/naked/roadster version of the v100 engine and i can finally chuck my Triumph speed twin 1200 away. And i can say i have a performance and a cruiser guzzi!

I've owned 2 Guzzi Norges, an Aprilia Futura, and a Ducati ST4s. This looks to be another Italian machine in that vein = so wonder I was drawn to this from the first time I saw it. The first photos I saw of the S showed it with gold wheels on the green, which I love! I *HATE* black wheels - I either want an S model in red, or gold wheels on the green one! Really good review and I'd say a realistic review of this machine, all the while paying homage to its carrying the torch for Italian quirkiness!
I'm kind of with you there. I want the white in the S trim. I just think the S color scheme makes this bike look average, but the solid colors with gold trim really highlight the stunning lines of the bike, and especially in white. It's perhaps the best looking bike on the market right now. Certainly much, much better than all of its direct competitors.
I though I didn't like black wheels until owned the bike (V100S) and now I won't go back to lighter color wheels. All that BLACK brake dust makes the lighter wheel look really crappy in short order. True, in a picture they are great. On a longer ride they annoy me announcing "clean me" after a hundred miles. The black wheels hide that annoyance until you get home.
At this point in my life, motorcycles are so reliable, fast, and powerful compared to motorcycles of the past, how comfortable it is and how it looks are the biggest factor in choosing a new one. The V100 is a beautiful bike and is likely very comfortable, although I haven't ridden one yet. Also, you really can't overstate how wonderful a big twin is on the highway. They just have such a huge power band. You never have to downshift. If you need to pass or want to speed up, you just point the bike and go. A twin cylinder 1000CC + bike is just ideal if you are going to do significant highway riding.

Wow Ok. Haven't considered a Moto Guzzi seriously until now. They nailed the styling IMO, and it has design cues that remind me of a few of my favorite bikes from another era. I could live with this everyday. A Moto Guzzi .. in my garage. Never thought it but hell, this looks like the one to try!
I ride a 90s 1100 Moto Guzzi. It's fast, fun, lots of character, super reliable, low maintenance. Someone is always asking me about it. I'm sure the Mandello is an amazing motorcycle.

The forces on the windshield at higher speeds are likely enough that it would damage the mechanism which is probably why they inhibit it above a certain speed
The V100 strikes me as a 21st Century version of a UJM. It is not a sport tourer or a sport bike, it is just a bike that does everything well but isn't a specialist. That is a very good thing.

I test rode one a few months ago and fell in love! And one of the reasons was its engine and its power delivery and feel! Of course I loved the looks too and the handling. It is a bit tall and heavy for my size though, but I guess I can get used to it. But I would die for a new MotoGuzzi Griso with this exact engine and suspensions!
Great review, having owned my V100 now for almost a year I can wholeheartly agree. Once you "inprove" a few areas, it gets so much better in the process. For me it is a longterm keeper!

Zack, I agree with just about every point you made, and understand why you like the engine so much. To those that complain that it's not sporty enough, you're trying to ride it too fast (It's not an R1), and to those that complain it's not as comfy as a Gold Wing - you're not riding it fast enough to enjoy the chassis and engine.
As a SoCal road racer/rider with 61 years experience (I started in diapers haha) I have learned the hard way that the best quality suspension and/or custom valving that money can buy along with very light weight wheels are more than worth whatever they cost. So I'm mystified why you chose the base model to test when I'm guessing most buyers looking at this Italian semi-exotic opt for the s model at $2k-ish more.
The electronic suspension has correct settings available, if you know how to setup suspension, and a different setup can be selected for each riding mode. Though the system looks different, it is functionally the same as the software on my 1290 Superadventure s.
I too figured the active aero was bs until the first time I rode it in the cold, I changed into sport mode during a ride thus retracting the flaps, and suddenly felt the cold on my thighs. Waddya know, it actually does something....
There are are a few easy mods that are good improvements, the biggest one is to ditch the round section Pirrelli angel GT's in favor of pointy profile Dunlop roadsmart 4's. The improvement in steering feel and chassis neutrality is dramatic. I also swapped the windscreen for a Puig touring screen. The one I selected is only slightly larger, so when all the way down it is the same height as the stock screen fully raised, and when up deflects most bugs from hitting your faceshield. I wouldn't put a barn door screen on this bike, but to each his own. I'm over 6' tall, so the heated comfort seat gave me more leg room.

My grandmother replaced her Beamer with a Guzzi. It was the last bike she owned, before a stroke ended her riding days. I never got to ride it (too young), but I always thought it was cool. I did own a CX 500 for a while as a kid, and I loved that little bike, even it was a bit milquetoast in performance. I think the Mandello is gorgeous. Gonna have to take a look! 😃

I am a lifelong Guzzista, and I own several Guzzi (the latest one is a V85TT). Last year I test rode a V100 (base model) and I didn’t like the seating position and the suspension that much. But man, the engine and the handling are absolutely amazing. The engine pulls strongly at every RPM and with confidence, without being overly aggressive. The handling is not super quick and requires a bit of input (engagement), but it’s extremely stable and predictive (and it’s still quicker than other Guzzis)
I just got a V85 last year (first Guzzi) and I'm hooked. The new Stelvio looks sweet too but is a bit pricier than I'd like to stomach, despite the extra power in a similar weight class. Are you planning to upgrade or happy with your V85?
@@trevorkarrett3041I definitively want to try the new Stelvio, but I’m very happy with the V85TT and I will keep it. The Stelvio is too expensive and big for me, the V85TT engine is enough for my skills and use of the bike and I love the retro styling of the smaller bike. The Stelvio looks nice, but loses in comparison to the V85TT imho. The new V85TT looks very interesting, with updated fairing with more wind protection, updated engine with VVT and IMU platform, but I heard that it will come with a considerable price increase…
V100S comes with cruise control, quick shifter and heated grips also.
Base model Dello comes with cruise control also 👍

The V100 and a Yamaha FJR are the two bikes I'm currently trying to decide between for my next purchase. The FJR wins most of the spec sheet battles, and realistically covers more of the things I need from my next bike, but that V100 is obscenely good looking and the engine is the best of any bike I've ever ridden.
@stiggy186 I'd suggest adding a R1200RT to your list. Bargain used pricing these days. Lighter than FJR, although not as powerful. Still, powerful enough and totally awesome on the highway and decent in curves.

That's great bike, engine wise it's perfect.
I took one for a test ride. Loved it. The only issue I had was, with my very short 27 inseam, I struggled to get the side stand down. I thought for sure I'm going to drop this beautiful thing. It's positioned in a place where the pipe is kind of in the way. Other than that great bike.
If there was one bike I would have to have for the rest of my life, it would be this. What a stunning machine. The green colorway is absolutely stunning. Thanks Zack!
I have my v100 for a few months and about 4000 miles, 250 mile plus days and commuting. Added a taller screen and a top box, and love the engine. It’s a roadster tourer and it’s my first commuter tourer bike that I did not have to add risers or upgrade the seat. 6’ tall 32” inseam.
I love that engine! Two observations:
- Those were some stout footless stops.
- We need a 3rd person camera shot of Zack going down lover's lane on the passenger seat while talking to himself 😂
Saw this bike in red last week with the gold valve covers and wheels. Immediately response was that I got the James May fizzy feeling. Not rich enough to be a Guzzi man but would be in a heartbeat. Their bikes are stunners.
I've had dozens of bikes and recently tested this one and it really was special. The indicator of my test rides is always how do I feel about giving the keys back, and in this case very reluctant. Definitely tops my list of Swiss Army knife bikes and has loads of character to boot. A brilliant machine.

That's part of what started my introduction into motorcycling. Just watching videos and now I'm my second year of riding. Creeping up on fifty also helped in the decision to give it a try "one of these days".
When you got to the leaderboard, it pained me to think it was better than the Kawasaki Z900 - Kawi's very probably my favorite motorcycle brand - , but I did think so. And the way you talked so much about that bike and sounded so excited doing so just showed me how good it it seems. And it's an effing sport-touring bike, my favorite style! I want one BADLY! I had a test ride on a V100 and after seeing your video I noticed we had the same reaction in terms of squeals and giggles :D it's definitely a fun bike with a lot of potential.
If I had the garage space I would put this in it along side my Aprillia Tuareg 660. I love the way it looks and the shaft drive is the icing on the cake. Give me one in green! Although the upcoming Stelvio looks insane

Very good, and honest review. This bike leans more towards sport than comfort. I hope the California comes back, and leans towards comfort. I love the engine and the drive shaft on the Moto Guzzi bikes.
I stopped motorbiking 2 years ago, after some 15 bikes. The second was a brand new Moto Guzzi Sport 1100 and the only one I miss today. When I accidentally faced the V100 in green recently, my eyes almost fell off. What a perfect piece of beauty! 21k€ was too much to pay to fulfill my esthetic desires, but still, this is a gorgeous bike in real. Guzzi has the feel for balance, shape and colours. With too much money, I would have bought it right there and then.
I have a v100s. The active aero is kind of useless except in the rain. Helps push the rain away from your waist. I've never gotten better than 39mpg... but I'm heavy handed :) . Coming from an Indian scout I find the v100 fairly light and better balanced. The semi active suspension works very well, it's not a gimmick like in some models.
Excellent review... the mandello is like a fine wine, gets better with time, mine certainly has with more miles under its belt, just gets better and better.. and that engine, full of character with plenty of real world power and it's fun

I have the V100S, ~6,000 miles in so far, and let me invite you on a ride when it is 48 degrees out. You'll be very unhappy when the aero is retracted! People make judgements on this when it is too warm. Same as my ARAI Signet-X helmet, lots of airflow when it is warm that I never notice, at 48 it's REALLY cool around the ears.
The reserve function switches to shows the miles to empty in the odometer based on how you are riding. That's nice over a guess empty. Standard 65-70 MPH cruise I get 52-54 MPG. But no, it doesn't abandon you.
Granted I hopped onto this from a 1992 BMW R100RT, that was ALL low-end torque, so to me thise V100S engine needs to be 3K and up to work. The BMW would pull hard from 1000 RPM and never complain. The V100S is super easy to keep reved up, though so no problem but it is an engine that rewards RPM.
The Ohlins with me aboard, 150 LBS wet, is pretty good but not soft by any means. Rdiges do hit harder than I would like opn broknen pavement. Outside of that it does very well. I really need the next softer shock for my weight.
I was waiting for a bike like the R100RT that was liquid cooled, shaft drive, reasonably light and modern and with more of a sport bent but not so much it can't to everything pretty good. This bike took far too long to arrive! I absolutely love it. I didn't really require it to be a twin, but I love the engine layout riding the bike. And no, the cylinders are less an issue than on my 1970 750F Honda.
First time I have caught one of these as it was released. lol I love the videos. Great info I have definitely used these videos to help me in some of my purchasing decisions.

Briefly looked at the V100 when shopping for a two-up capable bike late last year, wife loved the look of it. Ended up with a '04 VFR-800, but I appreciate how different this bike is (transverse v-twin, bike is all about its motor, etc). I think that's where the Z-900 suffers, it just doesn't stand out to me in any way. Love the reviews as always.

The active aero does work in conjunction with the wind shield taking the wind load off the riders chest. Stock suspension on the base model is a paradox with springs that are way too stiff for sporty riding solo. They are more suited for two up or touring. The ergonomics are fairly comfortable for all-day riding as well. Traction and braking intervention can be tailored in each of the ride modes as with the active aero.
I took it for test drive it last summer in a hot summer day my legs were fried from the heat and i return it to dealershift.If u can live with the leg heat the bike its great.
I was spooked by the white a4 creeping forwards when zack is checking the brakes 19:50 I really do not understand the thinking pattern of those drivers creeping forwards when red lights on. And worse they are often the ones who respond the green light late 😊
And I do wish he would head check at least every minute on the dirt section as trains can creep up on you. With the large puddles, Zack, you're a gonner that close to the tracks.

In the last 3 months I tried : the Goldwing bagger 2023, the Africa Twin DCT AS 2023, the Triumph Tiger 1200 2024, the Hayabusa 2023, the Moto Guzzi Stelvio 2024, and the V100 Mandello S 2023. And I own a X-ADV 750 from Honda. Have had numerous bikes like a lot of you guys and girls : Honda Transalp 600, Honda VFR 750, Suzuki GSXR 1100, Honda CBR 900, Suzuki DR 800, Suzuki Intruder 1400, etc... What I can say is this: of all the modern bikes I tried, the V100 Mandello was the most fun to ride. Had the most character. Gave me the biggest grin. The Goldwing came in close second place. The Mandello reminds me of my old VFR 750. The riding position, the feeling of the bike. But with more character. So my choice has been made, it will be the Guzzi ! I'm in love with this bike. Fell in love as soon as I sat on it and turned it on. That noise !!! The seat is the most confortable of all the bikes I tried recently. Will be perfect for long tours. The engine is magic, and the looks ! Best bike of 2023. By far. I'm just scared of the reliability... but will go for it anyway. That's how much I love this bike. With passion. The first Moto Guzzi I ever rode, but now I understand why they have such a cult following.
hi there,i'v owned a v100 s for a year and a half and reliability has been 100% perfect..the fact that guzzi has been giving their bikes a 3 year full warrenty for a very long time at least from the mid 90's should tell you that the brand is confident in their machines..you are going to love it man..like you i'v had loads of bikes some of them the same as the ones you mention and i am most impressed and satisfied with this v100 s guzzi..its that engine that does it..i think the best engine i have ever owned..and yes an engine with 120hp can be more fun to ride than a 200hp superbike engine..its dificult to explain why but it does happen..maybe its the delivery of power..i dont know but my honda 900rr from 1992 had 120hp and when you rode it it felt more powerfull than a modern 200hp superbike engine..and all that torque..the last bike i had was a 2013 zx10r,tuned with everything including fancy oz wheels,i love the modern kawasaki bikes..i was afraid for going from the kawi to the guzzi engine becouse of the power difrence,i shouldent have been,the v100 is simply massive..good luck ..

The speed limit on the windshield is a really good idea. On the ST1300, which had one of the earliest electronically adjustable windshields, it's pretty well established that the mechanism will wear rapidly if you adjust it at freeway speeds. Quite a few people on the forums have reported a stripped gear in the motor after trying to adjust the windshield above, say, 80mph.
It’s Italian your buying moving art that is unique. Yes, many bikes do the same thing but the aesthetics’s pull on your heart strings without even riding.
A corvette and a Lambo are both sports cars. They accomplish the same thing. Which one pulls your heart strings. A Toyota Camry is a sedan similar to bmw 3 series. Both are transportation. Which one is more of an adventure when in use. Does one provide more excitement when driving?

Had an 83 silverwing and a st1300 with the same engine design they were top heavy but when moving felt really easy to maneuver
I see a lot of Aprilia items here. Grips, rear grab handles, mirrors, fuel filler cap, bar headstock, pillion seat pad, switch gear.
I really enjoy mine. Charcter, comfort, ridability (no matter location) is great. It's a bike that would take several bikes to replace it. Oh and I love the looks and uniqueness. It has some minor cons like smalish fuel tank, wind screen, screen needs more adjustability, rear suspemsion seems limited even on the S verson.

Active Aerodynamic Louvers may be materially helpful in long distance touring in wet and cold weather - according to reviews by riders in the UK and others. Sounds credible to me. But if you don’t ride in those conditions then it probably doesn’t make much difference. Reviewers also say the S model is a huge upgrade largely due to the semi-active Ohlin’s suspension. Also sounds credible. Thanks very much for your thoughtful review. This definitely strikes me as a bike with interesting character.
I've owned three Guzzi's V7, Norge 1200 and 940 Belargio never a problem
I've read that the aero is about keeping rain off your legs and diverting some wind around your waist, which might have an effect on fuel economy at freeway speeds on longer distance tours (as opposed to a hop during a commute, not sure if you took it for a longer ride).
When the fuel range meter disappears at about 80klm on mine, they then start counting up from 0 klm upwards at a different place on the lower left of the dashboard. Gotta love those eyetalian quirks.
