I grew up watching Roland Martin along with Bill Dance and Jimmy Houston on TNN on Saturday mornings and still I can't get enough of Roland Martin,he's always been my favorite and the UA-cam videos now are just so great and help me alot. Thanks a bunch Roland!
Honestly, Roland...25+ years of watching your stuff (I started watching you, Bill and Jimmy on TNN when I was a wee one back in the early 90s) and still, not many guys do it better than you when it comes to straightforward, “here’s how you do it” bass fishing advice...which is CRAZY because there are hundreds of “options” nowadays. You, Tactical and Nature of Fishing...that’s my big three.
Same here. Remember watching his video on Rapala fishing and learning all kinds of stuff I didn't know despite having been fishing them for years. Roland covers everything. If I go to a fishing show and see a guy in a nascar-looking shirt, I'm out.
first cast , fish on lol what a legend. .... and as many times as I've heard someone tell how to rig a texas senko, I found myself just listening to this guy. His videos are simple, basic, and HONEST! Could watch this guy all day
The fact that you save the tore up Senko's and put them in a mold and re use them says a lot about the conservation person you are. Especially when you can get any tackle you want for free!! Much respect already for you but that added more! Great man! Thank you for all of your videos!
Mike Baker Went to one of my lifetime public fishing spots today to find it shut down with No Trespassing signs. Best I can figure is it’s because of the litter. People have been trashing it for a long time.
I love how he says “that’s how it’s done son!” Haha so much confidence it’s awesome and the fact he’s saying it mostly to a bunch of grown men maybe it more funny.
Remember watching Roland, Bill Dance and Babe Winkleman with my father in the 80s, what great memories. To think the man is now 80 and still going strong.
Wish I could post a pic of the 5lber I pulled out of a pond after learning to senko fish and baitcast from your videos. Day 1 I pulled out 2 nice sized and 1 hog!
Hey Roland, I just wanted to say thank you for explaining this stuff to us. I went out yesterday with some senkos and followed your instructions. I caught 3 big bass. I appreciate you.
Nose hook with a circle hook. When they hit, and they will, just start reeling and the hook sets itself. Really good action that way too. Great way to start younger fisherman who always seem to have trouble on the hook set.
johnny riley Another bonus of doing it that way with children is if they don’t set it quick enough and they swallow the hook it is less likely to gut hook and kill the fish.
Thanks for the great video Roland.I recently got back into fishing after 40 years of being away, and boy am I glad Im back.I appreciate your tips and advice. Im fishing alot from my fishing kayak and I just love it.Thank you sir!
You're going strong Roland, happy to see, but not surprised. Just getting into the chatterbait myself, I'm Billy the Brick's good friend who took out your camera man when you did one of your shows at Kings Island, CT River where you won the BP 100 Sept., 1994 !!! We never get tired of hearing from you - keep on teaching and we'll keep on learning!
I remember senkos really hit the scene in early 2000s. I'm not very old just been fishing a long while. Senkos where what taught me confidence in bass fishing. It's crazy because before senkos I was not confident in anything. From there it gave the confidence to fish with all soft plastics, jigs etc. Senkos are so effective.
It's good to see Top Professional lose fish every once in awhile. I Just need to remember this nexttime and laugh it off and not get upset... Thank you for all the Great videos!!!!
Just lost a hawg yesterday and I hope to get another one like him took drag and was reeling in bam he was gone. Glad I'm not the only one who has had that happen to.
T hank you Mr . Martin, finally found a video of using the Sanko the right way!! I watch your Son's video all the time and i learn from him at the same time have fun viewing his videos. Friend of mine told me about you and i told him that Scott had to learn from the best to be as good as he is. This video surely proved that to me. So thanks again!!!!!!!
Roland you have been one of my favorites since I was a kid watching your show every Saturday or Sunday morning and now on youtube. To this day still my favorite episode is the one where you came up here to Minnesota and fished lake Calhoun. Thanks for the fun videos.
We caught them pretty good at Rayburn on that # 9 Rapalla Shad Rap! Long time, no see! How have you been. I'm doing good for 80 but I have to work at it!
Thank you mr Martin!!! You go so in depth on how to fish a senko! I've been waiting to learn about this. I've watched you for years and I aspire to be a great one like you!
Thank you for all of this information and actually showing us you fishing it. It really helps to see it being fished rather than just talking about how to fish it.
I really appreciate you making these videos :). I've spent all my life trolling for trout/walleye and have no idea on how to properly bass fish. With your tips I was able to land a 4lb 9oz bass on my first trip. PLEASE continue to make videos on tips and tricks it's really helpful to beginners like me and I also really enjoy the content you produce as well. Thank you and good fishing :)
Love watching your videos Roland! I just started using the senko myself as I’ve never really had any confidence in throwing a worm with no weight. But as you demonstrated, the senko DEFINITELY works in a variety of situations and I’m beginning to use it more and more, especially “wacky rigged” w/ no weight! Thank you for all the information you provide us sir!
Thank you Roland for taking the time to teach us your methods of fishing, you show the how and why you do things. Many people just show catching fishing, I am new to fresh water fishing and this channel is going to be a great help once things get warm enough up here in Connecticut. Keep them rolling SON !
Roland thank you for Sharing. Sorry I didn't get to see you at the Classic, but it was just crazy busy trying to make the rounds... I did see many of your fishing anglers from back in the day though. It was amazing to be there and see history celebrating a 50th Anniversary mile stone.
no way you're 80 years old... Looking good Roland and this is a testimony to always staying busy and being able to make a living by doing what you love.
Great tutorial, Roland! Love your shows! I was first introduced to the effectiveness of the Senko, when my first-time-fishing friend bought a pack. I told him "no way are you going to catch a fish with that!" and thought he got suckered by the Bass Pro Shop employee into buying it. When he dropped the Senko straight down beside the dock and didn't concentrate on what he was doing, he got a hit and pulled up a 3lb bass! Still not convinced, I put one of his Senkos onto my line, was impressed with the weight of lure, cast it to the other-side of the channel, and bang, a 4lb bass hit it. Ever since that experience, I've been sold on the Senko and it's my number one go-to bait. BTW: You were using a weightless Texas Rig on your first setup of the Senko; and what you were doing with the heavy tackle and weighted Texas Rig is called "Punching" heavy cover, at least here in the California Delta. Keep On Fishing!
i just don't understand, you make it look so easy, i just spent four hours with a senko ands can't even get a single bite. you just have the magic touch. much respect!!!
A long, long time ago; perhaps in Nashville or near Lake Lanier 25 years ago, I was looking over a local lure rack when I heard a very familiar voice behind me. I turned around to confirm what I thought and sure enough there was Roland Martin. "What are they bitin on?" he asked. "What color?" I did my best to stammer out a "professional" response but I don't think I was very convincing. We had a few words and he went on. I don't remember the details now but I'll never forget the voice or the moment. Thanks Roland.
Roland your awesome man. You explain everything no secrets and your videos have been making me a better fisherman. Much appreciated keep making more videos
I always come back to this video when I need a reminder of texas rig technique. Granted, I fish in Northeast US not Florida, but there is no one better to learn from when it comes to senko fishing, period.
Roland, I just found your channel and I have to say I am hooked. This is the 2nd video I have watched. The first one was your 3 best braid knots. Keep up the good work and I look forward to watching more. Thanks so much!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I really enjoy your videos. very entertaining, I love how you are just as excited as I get and you've caught hundreds if not thousands more than I have or probably ever will. Happy belated birthday.
Thank you for another great video Roland they're very helpful to me. I've been fishing for 40 years and still learning. Thank you again and God Bless !!!
Happy birthday Roland i love you i keep watching your videos and i learn alot of stuff form your videos and i wish i had one of your baitcaster because i recently bought one really cheap one
You can be quite accurate with a spinning too and there are spinnings that are offering line weight up to 20 and even 30 lbs and up to 2 oz lure. I guess it mostly depends on what you used for and personal preferences. Here in Scandinavia it's probably about 80% spinnings, 15% fly fishing and 5% casting. I don't know why those models are not reaching USA, but here we have spinnings that are capable to tow a carp of 60 lbs to the bank:-) All the best!
I love your videos mr roland!! Can't thank you enought for everything I've learn watching them. I love fishing the senko, when everything else fails you can always rely on the senko to catch them. Hope you had a great birthday and hope for many more. Keep the videos coming.
Roland another great video, and you cracked me up when that 4lber jumped off. I guide full time saltwater for big snooks and reds I tell my clients all the time while snook fishing with my secret snook bait to keep tip high and slowly pick it up and “be a line watcher” cause when they hit you just see a quick jolt, sometimes I have guys that used to be or are bass guys and I tell them “fish it like a senko”. And “be a line watcher” And they all know what exactly what I’m talking about. Love it Roland. Happy bday, still waiting on you to get up here and catch some of these studs
I catch Bass on Senko lures all day on the upper Delaware River. They are inexpensive and easy to rig up. Nothing compares. However I never catch the big ones. Might be my technique but as for the validity of the Senko, it's for real. I highly recommend.
I haven’t had a boat in a few years now. I hope to remedy that this year. But I’ve been bass fishing farm ponds around here where I live in foothills of NC. The Senko is my go to bait period. Mostly I use without weight, or I use a nail weight to center the weight so it falls flat. Or if they’re wanting more action I’ll use a sliding sinker. But yes by a long shot it’s my fav. I have caught one Bass over 10lb with it. Several 6,7,8 lb. Great bait. And I too use my braided line as a strike indicator. When I let it fall I drop my rod a give it all slack and wait for that line to take off.
Watched your video and went out and caught my first bass on an artificial worm. I waited a little too long to hook him. I ended up gut-hooking him, but I was able to remove the hook through his gills without ripping him. Thanks for the info!
I just love how this guys caught more fish than most of us have seen in our entire lives and he’s still exited for a 3 pounder passion
How does Roland only have 117k subscribers, that is nuts to me. Been watching you forever sir. Thank you for all the great fishing over the years!
What a great teacher and instructor! He lives his passion every day. This guy alone will make you a better bass fisherman in no time flat.
Happy 80th birthday Roland, we love you🎂
amazing. he looks like he's in his forties. still hammering the bass too!
No way in the world I would have ever thought that man was 80!!
He isn’t 80!!?!?!?
@@Blackhawk556. yes he is he turned 80 years old March 14th 2020..

I respect that too. You’d be amazed at how much shit people leave behind around here.

I caught 6 bass today and lost about as many lol. For me it’s just part of the fun.
