This is still one of my all-time favorites of all of Direwolf20's series and youtube videos in general. The nostalgia was and is so powerful, even back then.
This is potentially the best Direwolf video I've ever watched. Basically because it highlights the spectrum of a community he's a part of. Admittedly Jaded is always on, but it's so nice to see how you all appreciate each other for your own qualities.
I come back to this video every year or two and every time it reminds me why I love modding
I love how dire makes the most interesting builds that are so much better than the simple counterparts like a quarry. It is so cool
I love this ForgeCraft series. Having all the people in TS makes it so much better.

I don't think she's annoying at all. Her interaction with the others is part of what makes Dire's videos fun watching for me.
Jaded is the person that keeps conversations going, she's energetic and when dire gets boring she chimes in and makes it interesting :)
For me the bickering and bantering with the other Forgecrafters is why I watch Dire's SMP series, since a lot of what he does there won't be possible with the currently release modpacks.
I watch SSP to learn stuff. I watch SMP to be entertained. And that was a really entertaining episode.
Hey Direwolf20! I'm not sure if anyone else recommended this, but for the bottom right turtle, have the engineering one send a tell the turtle to put the full chest underneath the engineering one, then it can grab the fuel and then the mining turtle can pick it up. Only suggesting to save on resources. Hope you'll get to read this. I know you've recorded these way earlier before they go out on UA-cam! Huge fan, and admire your work. The turtle-driven mining well is a pretty cool concept. It takes some work, mostly coding side to get done, but otherwise is pretty powerful. Especially if you just download Direwolf's full set of LUA scripts.
She has always given FTB permission to use RP2, she even said on her twitter that she "Likes that modpack", it just with all the updates recently, it means that a big mod like RedPower would take a little while to update. Im sure she is doing the best she can :D

Dire, if you have the turtle place the well down first, go up, place the chest down, then place the conduit, then it doesnt have to wait for the turtles to dump into the chests, also you can make more input chests and add inport buses to increase the inport speed
Eloraam is the mod author of a mod that expands redstone called RedPower2, the progress of the mod is on hold as Eloraam is very busy with her real life. It's a shame..it's a very cool mod. It's still out for 1.4.7 if you are interested ;)
He doesn't have a gravity suit, or even a jetpack, and even when jokes are happening, Dire keeps building.

I'll admit, when they posted that thing in the ForgeCraft channel that everyone reacted to and they said it would be public in a matter of weeks, I still have no idea what they were talking about. It's been 9 years.
I think it's from modular power suit mod, and I think it's called the flux capacitor. It's supposed to be some kind of torch replacement. There are other forms of launch-able torches out there, like the Moonworm queen in the Twilight forest mod.

Because the well won't pick any one inventory, it will eject into both the turtle and the enderchest.
That and it would make for a lot more programing and time as a turtle would have to go all the way across the front of the mining well to place the cabling to power them.
Actually, miscperipherals lets you wrap tessaracts as peripherals, letting you change their frequency! This lets you use a mining turtle instead of an engineering turtle, as you can still break the tessaract with a pickaxe, and enables the turtle to place and break a fuel chest. This also saves you a shiny ingot, although you already used it.
One of the most enjoyable episodes todate. I love when you are joind by so meny ppl on Teamspeak. Even more so when its the girls that talk, and laugh. So Cute
that self-replicating turtle idea is kind of terrifying.
I have the opposite problem: watching Dire makes me want to play Minecraft so badly I unfortunately get behind in his videos

I'm not sure if you've played Minecraft ever before, but if you try it you'll find the game ALREADY HAS bows, swords and arrows, without you even having to install any mods! Nifty!
As much as I enjoy hearing the teamspeak stuff, I'm here to see Dire building cool things (and maybe Soaryn or Rorax making them look pretty). So please stop going mad in the comments every time Dire has to edit out someone swearing.
4:42 - I had the idea to build a turtle factory that uses turtles to mine resources and build more turtles to do the same program before but never got round to it. I think Dire could make a really cool turtle factory with his ComputerCraft knowledge.
This was one hell of a funny episode! When the Wall-E/Chipmunk voice came in, I almost died laughing.
I sincerely enjoyed hearing everyone on the TS server. So funny.
After seeing this video I tried making a similar set-up on my usual Tekkit server. I found out that when an Engineering Turtle uses the turtle.attack() command on a Redstone Energy Conduit the server crashes. :(
Sadly, I'm won't have be able to copy the physical design, but thanks for the inspiration, Direwolf20. This is a very interesting concept and I'm having fun coding it!
SSP is survival singleplayer. As far as I know, 1.3's SSP-SMP architecture merge didn't change what SSP meant because it's still survival, and it's still a single player.
Dire this is just a tip but instead of the complicated fuel sharing have it when the mining turtle places the ender chest for fuel he lets his engineering turtle buddy know that and the turtle just has to turn and take fuel from the ender chest. Once they both have fuel have the mining turtle take the chest back up. Like so he can see this.
I feel the same unfortunately, but I am definitely loving these ForgeCraft videos!
I think the secret is about the TUG alpha release which should be in July which is about 2-3 weeks from now. It makes sense because slowpoke and FTB are helping with the developmen of TUG so they would know when the alpha would come out

Good luck with that, they fixed the turtle being able to wind the clockwork engines and Quartz grind stone already.

We're already allocating turtle refugees to temporary accomodation, but they need your help comarde! Coal, redstone and other unperishable fuels are desperately needed.
No, they work with buildcraft pipes and applied energistics ME cables. Altough there is a tool that can make cables look like blocks but i forgot it's name.

I Love the idea here with turtles and wells, i did have 1 thought to this build.
as the turtle dumps items into ender chest is it possible for it to use any coal it dug up to refuel.. that way it can use the coal it gets first before requesting fuel from system
The Forgecraft server is a separate entity. It does not use any FTB packs, it uses similar mods on a different config pack, and has no link whatsoever to the launcher. The packs you mentioned are the FTB Ultimate beta packs, free for those with the code to use. Be warned people, it is incomplete. Worlds may be lost!

I think you need an engineering turtle to break the tessaract and keep its settings, yet you need a mining turtle to break a mining well. I don't think that that would work out so well.
Answer? Turtle goes up and places an engineering turtle below it whose startup program simply wrenches the block below it. Then, turtle takes the tessaract and breaks the turtle. The engineering turtle doesn't move so it doesn't need fuel.
I love that I heard "she tweeted about it" and I knew the only secretive "She" is Eloraam.

I have what i consider a better but a little more expensive idea: Turtle places a mining well, goes up 1, places a enderchest infront of it and a energy tessaract under
You could just check the fuel level and then run refuel all if it's below a certain level, then route coal from the ae system to the enderchest using a storage bus. Would be a fairly simple system to implement.

Scratch that, you need an engineering turtle to change the conduit to output mode. Although you can still save a shiny ingot!
Noticed that dire said they haven't got RP2 on 1.5 Minecraft...... YET. Sounds like RP2 may be coming after all and also sounded like she has given the FTB team permission to carry on development until she returns. But if that is so, don't expect anything new. It will just be updates to the mod to work with current minecraft versions
dire you could just have the turtle place the fuel chest and have the engineering turtle take it, and then have the digging turtle break it. no need to move turtles around, it might run into problems if you move them around more than you need to

Dire I think the tesseract turtle should be one up so the conduit don't mess up and doesn't let you put a mining well there

They're far more interesting than 'I lost ma head in da mine' - episodes (they're funny if so. knows loads of bad jokes and puns, but with an engineer like you, building is that much better!

I was considering something like this useing RS energy cells instead(didnt have/know of the tes change) Being able to do that with a tesseract will be much easier. for fueling the engineering turtle you could just have the mining turtle next to it place its fuel chest up as part of the cycle and have the engineering chest take fuel as needed
Its called teamspeak, Teamspeak is a program which allows people to chat simular to skype, but only it isnt as CPU/bandwith intensive, the robotic voice is a alert from the program to say that "user joined your channel"

Because the pick isn't the thing that lets him place torches; that's just part of Tinker's Construct. He still needs torches to place.
You know the turtles should be like Rail craft where you may customize it! That would be awesome but there should be some balance...
it is just leave a piece of coal in a specific slot and while refuling let it ceep one ...but with this metode its not guarantied that the turtle is fueld all the time
There would one have to be a check at what the item is, if It is Coal then it would have to place the chest for fuel up, place that fuel in there, then continue. Would be over complex, as the ME system would just sort it itself.
Because the Mdiyo tools will place whatever block/item you have next to them on the hot bar when the right click is pressed... :) Hope that help clear things up for ya :)
I'd love to make that. I don't think turtles automatically chunk-load though, and I don't think they'd be able to get the resources to build more enderchests or chunkloaders (blaze rods + ender pearls).
Dire, can I suggest using RTG ugrades from MiscPeripherals to fuel your turtles?
1 uranium lasts 14 hours and should generate power quick enough for this machine to run, saving you a large amount of coal.

No, this is a modpack with a bunch of mads that are being beta tested, but you can download his single player mod pack on the FTB mod pack client.
We need 2 versions of each episode: normal one and "directors cut" with Jaded intact
That would use the fuel from the mining well. It would just be a different way of filtering the coal out from the other items. :)

no, but there is a chunk loader module from misc peripherals that does just that!
Hey dire the coal and charcoal from the trees in the nether are way better than coal and charcoal in the overworld so use that as your fuel source for your turtles.

There are several of the same 1.5.2 mods in the New Age mod pack in the FTB Launcher. They are not the same versions though. You could add some (or remove some) mods like Mystcraft to make it more similar but you may have to mess with the block IDs.
