Year 3 of IDW Sonic sure did end on quite a good note and Evan is a fine writer. As for Shadow, I wouldn’t worry about him too much as SEGA is kinda starting to ease up on his portrayal. The situation’s improved a bit, but its not there yet. Hang tight. See ya later!
For a first arc, Evan did a great job, especially with the pacing, and seemed to open the door to a lot of speculation, and possible indications. There is quite a bit to unpack here, So you know the deal with me here.
To Start, The final issue of this saga delivered in spades, and kinda allowed room for growth. The primary elephant in the room is some of the interactions, notably in regards to Shadow.
Admittedly, This is in large part due to his attitude toward everyone else, especially since he would've rather pounded the snot out of Starline simply because his ego couldn't take the beating than save the lives of those in the chateau. What really piqued my curiosity was the fact that Rouge said "It's your choice. And your the one who will have to live with it."
That, to me at least, was her way of getting through to him, since he has arguably been treated as a pawn with no will of his own, if the past is anything to go by. To her credit, it worked, and they got the message across just in time....and Shadow did say that he owed Sonic a debt so....just some food for thought.
Next, there is the matter of Belle herself. If one thing's for certain: her "mystery creator" plotline is kinda...ominous. While it may seem like a open and shut case to link her to Eggman (As Mr. Tinker), perhaps we are looking at this from the wrong angle. Starline wouldn't have known about Belle up until Tails triggered her kicking abilities.
What if....Belle was borrowed while she was activated? namely a third party and she isn't allowed to say who, fearing the repercussions? Maybe someone that Clutch knew?
Regardless, she has proven herself to be a trustworthy bot who does mean well, and will strive to do well....and doesn't favor violence.
Thirdly, and this is small, but i really adore how Cream genuinely cares for Gemerl, and wants to protect him as much as he wants to protect her. I thought that was very wholesome, and shows that just because Belle and Gemerl are robots, it doesn't mean they are automatically or always will be evil.
Plus, the look on Amy and Rouge's faces as Cream filled her mother in on the adventure was great.
Putting those aside, there is the matter of the sample Starline gained from Tails. A lot of folks on the Discord Server, myself included, discussed whether or not Starline was either making a clone, or a new individual.
Particularly a female tails.
This comes in part to a letter from the IDW letters Squad page from Bad Guys (I think?), where one of the team addressed the lack of female villains. The reply also states that their should be fenales villains that share a similar mindset. That same message ended with "that problem will be resolved sooner than you think..."
Pretty telltale sign, that line.
Side Note: I expected Starline to walk away a little smarter now his old habits are getting In his way. But, I expect the first few times to be met with failure. He will improve, we just don't know how.
TL; DR?; The issue delivered quite a bit on some fronts, and helped the worldbuilding aspect of the arc...even if it came at the expense of the cancelled chao races because of the avalanche. Still, it was a good read overall.
I'm pretty sure that he wanted to pursue Starline either because he saw him as a greater threat OR because he saw him as his biggest link to Eggman, who he knows is a greater threat. TL; DR, he didn't want the bad guy to escape.

Starline probably wants allies like Sonic has but ones under his complete control, ones he'd make/create himself. If it's clones in those tanks he might be making his very own "Tails and Knuckles". As for Clutch if he wants payback he'll need some brawn to go along with his brains, Rough and Tumble would be perfect to form a Team Crime.

I’d say he’s actually making a Metal/Mecha Tails and those 2 pods are either failed experiments or technology he stole from Eggman to make a robotic foil to Tails, probably because he’s still got the Eggman influence in him to make a machine to beat someone at their own game, in this case likely to make a robotic Tails to probably serve as a lab assistant, a tool/minion, and a way to piss off Eggman by one upping Eggman by making machines that one up Sonic and friends in what they’re good at

So I have a really out there theory as to what the test tubes could be being used for. I wanna note that we know Ian Flynn and Evan Stanley both have a habit of reviving old Sonic media and giving them fresh coats of paint (ie. Breezy in the Archie Comics, Team Hooligan, and the idea of Trocore technology in IDW). Secondly, we know that Starlines project is probally going to be biological not mechanical, given that its a hair sample. Also note that we've only ever seen TWO capsules. With all this in mind I think we could be seeing Sleet and Dingo from Sonic Underground return once more. Tails DnA would probally match the most given that their both canines and that for what we've seen in the capsules so far its only been bits of particles so far. In Sonic Underground an ability that Dingo had was the ability to transform into different objects, perhaps Starline needs Tails DnA in order to stabilize their genes?
Shadow has always been a bit of a jerk though in this case it's understandable, after whats happened Shadow would be upset for letting Eggman get away twice( Windmill village and Angel Island ) if anything he's shown a bit of improvement during this arc or at least he's been given more too reflect on. Plus unlike Sonic Shadow has been actively been searching for leads on Eggman's bases or forces. Not wanting to wait before Eggman or Starline strikes again with another scheme. Though I wonder if we'll ever see those Shadow androids again(from Whisper and Tangle's story arc) and if Eggman will use them to protect himself against Shadow. Possible Team Dark story arc or Shadow & Whisper team up perhaps?

Megaman beat, I think you may have overlooked at something that didn’t get noticed. The fact of how Amy actually tries to find Sonic other than on foot. Cause this issue addressed one way Amy finds Sonic is how hedgehogs move underground. I would bet that as a way for female hedgehogs to have a way to find male hedgehogs, just in case any can’t spin dash.
This Issue Almost made me Hate Shadow The Hedgehog as a Character and I see no improvement in him in the future, until I saw the end when made me respect him a little bit, only a little. It's not the Writers fault, it's mostly Sega of Japan's take of the character.
It makes me question their motives, unless they purposefully made him like this so they can try to find a workaround to show some growth?

Shadow has been done dirty with the whole IDW run. He showed up and fought Sonic in his first appearance, ok, thats fine. He fought Metal Sonic and made it so he had even more power, in character slip up, thats not too bad. The Metal Virus Arc... He just goes down a %%%%... Ok WHAT!?!! He saw how Sonic was barely staying alive with the Virus, and the one thing he was told was dont touch the Zombots... And he touched the Zombots... God Damnit. And this Arc, Starline shrugs him off and he doesnt do anything of importance... *Sigh*... Why

I liked the fact that Shadow feeds his Chao. Btw we still haven't seen Shadow removing his limiters or becoming Super Shadow in IDW comics, so they might bring in a big villain for such thing to happen. Maybe a story where it's all upto Shadow to save everyone. Maybe a villain like Mephilis

I can't wait to see Belle discovery of her original creator Eggman in the next arc. My guess is that Belle is a mule to Sonic and Tails since I witness presence that she's lying to use them for something.
Evan's already confirmed on Twitter that she was made when Eggman was Mr.Tinker. So that's unlikely. SHe's just having a hard time accepting the realization that her father IS Eggman.

Shadow is still rough around the edges but atleast they’re easing up on him. IDW Sonic is a mixed bag as a whole.

I predicted earlier in another video at the beginning of the arc that Clutch will lose all of the Chao especially the Dark Chao which will Shadow will adopt in the future. Well its look like its gonna be Shadow new chao from now on. Cute.

Starline had been compared to Thanos before, so I’m comparing Bell to Squirrel Girl.
I was right, Bell becomes Tail's assistant and helps rebuild Omega. Sonic and Tails do know who built her but I think they're not gonna press her too hard for info out of consideration for her own feelings on the matter and wait to get to know each other better until they can find more answers about her situation. As for when she was built, Eggman/Mr. Tinker could've built her during the timeframe after the villagers started to trust him as Mr. Tinker(he did work on a bunch of projects for them after all.) and before Rouge found him, team Choatix interviewed him, and Sonic arrived there in Windmill village. I mean he must've had a personal workshop elsewhere in the village for smaller projects( and well Bell herself), which might've been wrecked by the Zombots so she hid while that crisis was going on. Bell doesn't want to consider Eggman to be her father/creator, she only knew him as the kindly Mr. Tinker.
I agree with this. Tails figured about she is an Eggman creation because she could read the E-Series blueprints. Belle probably didnt know she could though. I think she was in the village when Eggman dumped the virus on the town and that's how she found out he IS Eggman and that's why denies him as her dad. Either she was made before or after Sonic, and the Chaotix met Tinker.
@@lazlow8788 Probably before since by the time Sonic meets him as Mr. Tinker he was working on the mini-Eggman land for the village children. My guess he was planning to introduce her to everyone once it was finished but Ruff and Tumble grabbed him before that.
The comics and the games in the past couple of years have turned Shadow from my favorite character into being my least favorite character.
Perhaps Shadow's getting character growth and him being this way is by design to showcase that growth later down the line?
If that’s what they’re going for I still don’t like it he has an established character it’s fine to do this with a new character But not with one that has an established personality and already established character growth to me it sounds like them trying to cover up and fix what they know they screwed up back in issue 19

I want to see another playable Cream with her army of Chao attack in games! That would be awesome to see her being the strongest character again...
Also, I got to admit you do have a point in Chao races, I wanted to know the price when Cheese was the winner but it turns out, it didn't.

I might have a theory about the tubes with green fluid. They're cloning tubes and with the fur sample Dr. Starline gained from Tails, he might try and make a clone of the two-tailed fox so he can not only infiltrate the restoration but capture Sonic and any other potential threat to his plans and create said clones in their place.
It's a definite possibility. I had a discussion with others on the matter, and there is a high indication that female villains are going to be added to the universe. Whether or not a female clone of tails is in the future remains to be seen.
This comes in large part to a response from one of the team in the IDW Sonic Letters Squad, addressing the lack of female villains outside of Zeena.

Usually, when villains take someones hairs for something, I immediately think of clones. It would certainly be cool to see a group of evil clones of the heroes similar to their Moebius counterparts in the Archie Sonic comics.
However, after thinking about it, I don't think that's the case due to his recent experiences working with other organic individuals.
Though I still have no idea what else other than DNA he might need Tails' hairs for.
Bio androids come to my mind. Basically building a bot based on genetic blueprints.
I don't mean to be pushy, but how is the Mega Man: Fully Charged issue 5 coming along?
If Shadow was still Working for G.U.N. we could just blame everything on them. G.u.n could be Like" Shadow we need you to Capture Starline at No Matter the Cost. He Can send us to where Eggman is Hiding". And Shadow who want to Complete his mission will take that order even if it mean letting a Few Civilians perish in a Avalanche but of Course Shadow will realize there more important things than the Mission. Them Making Team Dark this Weird Renegade team doesn't fit well with Me At All. The Thing that made Team Dark so Compelling was that They work for The Government of the World. And Sometimes their Decision is going to Conflict with Sonic and His Friends.
Yeah... except in the game where they formed; Shadow and Omega were pretty much just tagging along with Rouge at the time.
@@videogollumer Yeah but it Worked more than they realize in Heroes. You have a Robot that Constantly need Ammo Replenishment and fine Tuning. Shadow and Rouge Can't do that. And Sending Him to Tails Every time would be Annoying. People at G.U.N would know how to do that. Shadow Technically Belongs to Gun, Works for a Guy who Knew Maria, and helps stop Threats before they Happen giving everyone a Chance to be Happy like Marai wanted. G.u.n seems to always be closely following Eggman. Getting information before he Starts his Grand new Plan. Unlike Sonic who just stumbles upon it in the Middle of him doing it. And then Rouge who is Already An Agent and Theif for G.u.n. And in a World were Chaos Emeralds are Power she Key to making G.U.N more Stronger. I get that they got Rid of the Humans but in Sonic Forces it Seem while not Mentioning it they still Work for some type Of Organization. You don't have to Say G.U.N. Maybe they gone Secret and that why they are never Mention. Team Dark can still be Taking Orders from People that were not aware of and do Mission that kind of Dark.( Heh Get it).

I did hate the way Sonic and Shadow were written in this story arc. But I guess no hero is perfect or flawless. It's pretty obvious Belle was made by Eggman as Tinker shortly after he met Sonic and The Chaotix. Hopefully, Belle will eventually open up as her character develops. I think Starline is planning on cloning Tails and maybe creating an assistant with Tails genius mind. Could this be a new female villain cloned from Tails? Maybe. Overall, I loved this story arc and can't wait for Test Run.
I think the rumor about this once being a Team Dark adventure may have been true. Feel free to correct me. But still, a while back, when Evan was announced as head writer, and the next arc was announced, I specifically remember the synopsis for it saying Rouge and Shadow were teaming up with Cream to win parts for Omega in the Chao races. I was pretty excited for that since, as far as I know, we haven’t seen those characters properly interact with each other, and I was looking forward to potential scenes with Shadow and Cream. When they later said it was Rouge, Amy, and Cream who were gonna be in it, I was kinda confused. I almost thought my brain played a giant prank on me.
I’ll get my Shadow and Cream moment one day.... hopefully. It’s still a great arc though, one of my favorites.

Or she could reveal it to Tangle in the Test Run arc like how Whisper finally revealed her past in the mini-series. Tangle is good at helping others with their troubled pasts.

What if Belle was created by Dr. Eggman but when he was Mr. Tinker and she was at the base Sonic and Tails found her looking for Mr. Tinker?
I’m not so sure Belle was built in that base. My theory was that she was put together in Windmill Village, sometime between the Badnik attack and when Rough and Tumble arrived to take Mr. Tinker. If that’s the case, she wouldn’t recognize Starline

Who ever denied it? Since the Archie cannon is out the window tails is back to mystery orphan status. It could go anywhere but considering they encountered the doll in a base already it would be a hilarious joke to have starline make it a serious threat.

Well we kinda knew that was going to happen with the Avalanche. Seriously Starline do your homework. They could have easily addressed both ten different ways, and Shadow's depiction is as irritating as ever. He isn't Vegeta, so stop trying to make him one. Now with Tails's hair in Starline's hands, people are reasonably assuming that he is making clones but I think he is building bots based on genetic information which is technically feasible.

i still continue to absolutely loathe shadow in this comic series.
i still don't really like amy struggling with the badnik bear enemy, like, come on, at least show it to be reinforced or upgraded or something, or just replace it with a stronger badnik, otherwise it really looks like artificial tension.
one minor nitpick, when starline touches tails' tail, and then gets kicked by belle, his left hand opens to cover his beak, so any fur he got out of tails should've dropped, and then when we see the fur sample he has, it's yellow (or is that orange?) when it should be white, if we're lead to believe he got tails' fur from touching tails' tails (so many tails), i guess i would've liked more attention to detail, like starline gripping tails fur ever when touching his beak and the fur itself being white later on.
one of starline's creations resemble metal sonic, not sure if that's intentional or not, maybe that's why metal sorta disappears from issue 32 onwards.
and oh boy, starline's gonna create the best sonic character, ARMS the kitsune!

Sadly, I stopped reading the comic in the beginning when Shadow chose to go after Starline instead of helping Tails and Rouge. I was beyond angry that they were doing this again with his character I just completely lost all interest and will I had to finish reading it. When a character is so out of character that someone lost interest in finishing what they’re reading you know somebody done goofed.
You DO know that Shadow is NOT the only reason to show interest in something Sonic related, right? 🙄
That depends on who you ask if he’s one of my favorite characters then yes him being written badly is gonna ruin the comic for me despite the other characters if ya don’t agree well your entitled to your opinion but for me it ruined issue
(Even so usually for me it does take only one person being written so badly that I cringe at their actions to ruin a story for me)
Edit: also Sonic who’s the main character isn’t exactly written to well either at times.

So I thing I should start with the big Edgy Elephant in the room.

Okay partial jokes aside (because the points in it are serious but there are hardly worth mentioning) lets talk start with the thing that created an uproar before the issue even released.
Shadow the Hedgehog.
He isn't just written like lite-real Cell Arc Vegeta but he is also completely useless for the story as he adds nothing. As Megabeatman pointed out his attack against Clutch is something everyone could have done, his struggle with Starline amounts to nothing and he utterly failed in stopping the avalanche. You could easily remove him from the story and next to nothing would change. He destroyed more in this story for literal nothing. At least the last 2 arcs had something happen with him despite destroying him as well but here is all the destruction with non of the "substance".
And staying by the Hedgehogs so could I say almost the exact same thing about Sonic as all he does is get Tails distracted and so cause the fight scene and be uncharacteristically distrusting against Belle (you know the same Sonic that was okay with Gamma after Amy said he is her friend, never had an ill word for Omega, was not half as distrusting towards Emerl even after Tails told him that he in past may or may not has caused the destruction of an entire civilization and just in the last arc was willing to risk the world to give Metal Sonic the change to better him self (something he arguably already did back in the end of Sonic Heroes but not finishing the job). And what for has Sonic done these things? Well I tell you in do time just wait till I get to a certain Puppet girl.
For now let talk about the last Hedgehog and while the writing for Amy and her crew was alright so was the power scaling still all over the place. Because please consider this:
Racing Chao(all being weaker than Cheese as he beat the best of them)> Amy and Gemerl (as there were even better in just holding the badniks off)> Starlin (as Starline was hardly able to defend him self against Amy and barley just matched her Hammer Stricks with his tri core)> Shadow (who was flood by Starline at the beginning)
look at this power-scaling and tell me does any one of you thing that this looks even remotely right?
But I can go on as someone that recently started to replay Sonic Heroes a games these Comics series has referenced to no and this far can I just re-illiterate how ridicules the Idea that these old barley functioning Badniks pose an actual threat to even Team Rose (with Gemerl for Big) all Badniks here are ether really old Classic era enemies like Motor Bugs, Sonic 4 enemies a game set before Adventure 1 I may add and E-1000 Robots from Sonic Adventure 2's Pyramid levels. Now guess what all of them have in common... I Tell you its that all are suppose to be inferior to the overall E-1000+ and E-2000+ Robot lines from Sonic Heroes which even Team Rose ripped apart back than and after that does first Sonic Battle come in which both Amy and Cream start to workout hard to better protect there loved ones (and additionally in case of Amy to get closer to her Ideal figure). Also one more problem with the fight is that Amy's victory hit makes no sense as a Chao distraction should't magically allow her to Hammer harder then before unless we play by Sonic Chronicles rules and all of these chao give an Attack up buff.
As for the fight with Starline is there nothing to bad about it and I have no issue with Amy and Rouge being able to fight him off. Even if I have to ask why he doesn't just bring out his hypnosis ray to send Amy and Rouge sleeping. But the way he is beaten leads into one more this and that is...
Belle. Okay I have nothing against her as a Character let alone her design my problem is how she is integrated into this story. So let me quickly explain. I thing the reason Sonic was so rude to her was to hide how overly loved she imminently is by everyone else that interacts with her especially Tails and Cream (by the way last issue did I put Cream being star eyed over Belle in question after just replying Sonic Heroes can I only say I stay by it because Cream was very done to business and in both it and Battle was Cream actually always the strait man to Amy). So if Sonic would have acted correctly would everyone have loved Belle right from the start.

But before I come to an end lets finish this off with Starline I already talked a bit about him but now with the knowledge about him originally having the Warp Topaz do a few things make more sense now like how he got the Bombs that quickly set up or how he that easily escaped Shadow while carrying Rouge. But a yet to be answered question to me is What was he even doing there? We were never given any reason why he would be here and given that he takes at the end the role of arc main villain is him having a reason to be here kind of important especially given how recently after Bad Guys this is suppose to play.
Especially given that he sounded in this issue very much like he was only ever interested in Tails. But given that he wants Tails DNA for a project of his and he has these 2 test tubes can we for now properly only wait for Starline to finish his ORIGINAL CHARACTER (do not steal).
Okay, you really need to stop opening and/or closing your rants/reviews like you speak for everyone. I respect your opinion to a degree, but it really doesn't stand out as universally true.

Maybe I am overlooking something but I am sure I only generalized by the Shadow point in which I felt rather confident in as not only is like a third of the comment section here people saying that Shadow was badly written but after the preview pages for this issue were shown was the backslash against Shadow in it already so big that Evan asked on a Twitter account that people please wait for the release before there judge the issue.

As someone who is a Sonic fan and who is an aspiring writer, I hated this issue, (and IDW in general,) the characters don't act how they should, the world feels incredibly small, (because the writers can't be creative to save their lives,) and it overall feels like this series isn't going anywhere interesting.
As for Belle...she sucks. Evan has a habit of putting gimmicks and superficial things ahead of actual character, and Belle is no exception. Her whole thing is she's a robot puppet, (made of actual wood, which makes NO sense, even by Sonic and video game standards,) and she's ditzy and awkward, that's it. We already have a lot of robot characters, we don't need another, especially one who isn't struggling to grasp the complex concepts of organic life. She could've worked better as a magical being,something we need to see more of in this franchise, not more robots all made by the same guys. She's not much of a character, and I doubt she'll go anywhere.
Overall, this arc proved Evan can't write well, even when given complete freedom, and she won't be able to save this book.
A few other things to note: Tails didn't do anything of substantial, even when the bad guy was right in front of him, rather than simply punch Starline in the face, he unnecessarily used Belle. Evan (like Flynn,) forgets Tails doesn't need his tails to fight. They need to let him do things instead of having him be a useless nerd.
In fact, a lot of the guys come off as either useless or meatheads in this story. The girls pull all the weight, even Cream, this is not a good thing and is actually kinda sexist since it gives off the vibe that guys are useless without girls.
I also continue to hate Omega's characterization, he's not just a violent robot, he really only wants to destroy Eggman robots, anything else is pointless unless it impedes his mission. He has a lot of potential and they keep him as a joke.
The Chao are annoying, especially since they were only included because people can't shut the fuck up about a mediocre mini-game from 23 years ago. You could've literally had the story center around any other type of racing and nothing would change. I also roll my eyes at the idea they can take out Badniks when they've been shown to have the endurance level of babies.
TL;DR, this arc was terrible and you didn't cover the bad parts in depth because you lack good observational skills. Please turn off your fanboy goggles and observe objectively please.
Edit: Oh almost forgot, the mandates are fake, the only reason the characters are inaccurate is because these people don't get them at all.

While I also thing that the IDW Sonic comic's have been nothing short of a disaster in which a lack of a proper editorial staff to keep these fanfic writers in check hurt the story, Characterization and world building enormes.(I mean I have been complaining in great detail about this comics under almost every review MMB made about them this far)
But I thing you go at a few places a bit to far.
Starting off with the biggest issue I have with your comment and that is deny the existence of Sega mandates. I mean given how this extended past the comics by now with Tyson Hessen complaining about the same problems during the creation of Team Sonic Racing Overdrive and by comparing the English and Japanese scripts of Sonic Boom rise of lyric and Team Sonic Racing does it become very apparent that Shadow being an asshole at the very least is something that Sega of America seam to enforce for the westen market.
Than would't I say that the Chao at nothing as there make Clutch look even eviler by mistreating them. And on top of this is this being Chao racing the excuse why Cream and Gemerl were dragged into the story at all. So using a chao Race rather than something else certainly wasn't entirely pointless (unlike Shadow and Gemerl in this story)
The Girls pulling all the wight isn't a problem that I have here not only because seeing the Girls getting to do anything on there own is already rare enough in this franchise so its really more an exception rather than the rule. But also because the Girls them self were also nerfed to hell and back with a few already damaged Badniks really should give Amy let alone her together with Germerl, Cream and Cheese any trouble just thinking back to Sonic Heroes.
The only Girl that I have a problem with is Belle because of how Characters and story points are bend to give her a role and not making it super obvious how imminently loved she is (as in Sonic's OoC distrust to her, Tails having to use her to beat Starline, the Characters being unable to just brute force open the locks so that she can open them) and as you said is she so far not a very interesting Character.
But I do have to say that her being a Robot by Eggman yet again at least gives the otherwise completely worthless time waster that was the Mister Tinker sub-plot a reason to exist by having at least some consequences appear as a result of it.
But overall do I have to agree that I don't have much hope for the book unless IDW gives the Book better editors because I don't see Ian or Evan being able to self regulate there writing given how the Comics have turned out so far.
