The situation the New Diamond Cutters are in is similar to the Transformers Prime episode: Shadow Zone. In that episode the 3 human friends off the Autobots (Jack, Miko and Raph) end up stuck in a Shadow dimension were they can see/hear everyone in the Normal dimension, but no one can see/hear them.
This new arc is really getting interesting with all three teams making a move on Eggmans new base, I wonder how all three groups will work together to beat this cite and whatever secrets it is hiding in the works for them. Nice seeing all the fight scene with Sonic and his team that was awesome.
I've been waiting for the Shadow Androids to make an appearance ever since the Tangle and Whisper mini-series. When we learned what happened to Whisper's old team I've expected a confrontation between Whisper and Shadow against his dopplegangers.
Did you know the Androids originated in Sonic Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog. I think it is obvious you do but I just thought I would say that.
The Shadow Androids haven't been seen since the Shadow The hedgehog game where they showed up in only 2 stages.

Other then the fact that the Restoration and the Diamond Cutters are nods to the teams of freedom fighters from the "1993 Sonic Saturday Mornings Animated Television Series" (SatAM) and the "Sonic Archie Comic Series" that were partially based by that series; I kind of think that "Eggpirial City" is a nod on the "Nanite City" from the Archie Comics.
I love Tangle and Whisper, they’re very good friends, and action never gets old.
3:35 - on note on time travel, can we PLEASE get an explanation of how Silver time travels in the current era? He said it can't be done willy nilly so through what method? Is he still using chaos emeralds? TELL US COME ONE!
1) The districts are different colors of the Chaos Emeralds (Blue, Green, Yellow, Purple, Cyan and Red. Silver Emerald I haven't seen yet.)
2) The Fake Emeralds remind me of Sonic Adventure 2 (since Tails' "The same wavelength and properties" dialog is from that game and he created the Fake Yellow Emerald that Sonic used to escape the exploding capsule) and Sonic X (because SA2 was adapted in Season 2 and the Season 3 villains: The Metarex, created their own fake emeralds.)
The Diamond Cutters ending panel gives me strong Metal Gear vibes

Will Amy be a Super Smash Bro character now. I think we just saw her final smash move using the giant eggbot hammer. Can't let sonic have all the fun being solo especially this issue that Sonic is build up the idea that having a team is more helpful to take on challenges than being solo (Sonic Frontiers).
I honestly thought you would skip over Amy crushing an Egg Hammer with its own hammer. Sonic's right though, she's awesome!
There was speculation that Lanolin would be bad news at some point. I'm glad the writers didn't go down that route. She's grown on me and I wouldn't mind seeing more of her, in and out of the comics.

OK, how many of my fellow starting customizers now wants to make Amy rose God of Thunder? I mean we all know Amy loves her hammers and what better hammer than Mjölnir. (don't worry I think they'll be allowed to get away with the shipping once Sonic three comes out, after all Sega is gonna have to eventually do some minor romance in that one considering is gonna be very much based off of a spy film. Which is a touch of Star Wars. By the way how many of us are still waiting for the knuckles miniseries?)
Uh oh... I just realized something.
One of the covers for the next issue has Shadow fighting the Shadow Androids. If they really show up in this arc, Whisper might just fly off the handle...

I don't think Eggperial City having six sections is a reference to sonic 1 but shows that eggman couldn't create a fake of one of the emeralds.
During the previous annual we saw the white chaos emerald during one of its plots lines where it ended up in Rouge's position and Eggperial City has all emerald colors except white. It could be eggman had collected six of the seven emeralds to create the fakes and power the City though it's still incomplete. And with team dark joining the fight this could be his opportunity to get the last one.
When Sonic and Shadow get to Eggman, things are gonna be heated.
Shadow: He dies.
Sonic: No.
Shadow: He dies!
Sonic: No!
Shadow: HE DIES!
Sonic: NO!
Shadow: Sonic, you're an idiot!
Sonic: And you're an edge-lord; you're point?
Shadow: Rrrrr! *charges at Sonic*

The words "Knothole Village Police Precinct" were shown on Storm's mugshot board on the Babylon Rogues' wanted poster on one of the covers for Issue 31. Maybe Sally and the gang are part of it?

I honestly think if they did come into the Sonic IDW comics, they would be part of the Post-SGW Prime Reality of the Sonic Archie Comics, and it would be a crossover between those two alternate realities.

This issue sure was something.
Not bad but a bit questionable at parts.
A quick cut between the 2 story's
Neo Diamond Cutters:
On one hand was this absolutely a rushed story. Whisper suddenly realizing the error of her way felt unearned, Tangle just having to give a minor pep talk to have Lanolin back on her feed also seems to happen way to fast.
Which is kind of sad as Whisper having to come to therms with how wrong her actions were and how hurtful they were to her new friends due to fear and Lanolin having to struggle with her attempt to be as strong as the other heroes (Especially Amy as she herself build herself up from normality with pure effort and determination) could both have made for interesting stories on there own.
On the other hand am I also just glad that its not stretched out again for what feels like ever like it was the case with Belle (over 20 consecutive appearances in main line issues with little progress) or Sonic's morality.
Also on a personal note do I have an issue with how Tangle keeps being the character to inspire positive change in other characters while the game cast that used to due this (Sonic, Amy and Cream) get like nothing in that direction.
Team Game cast:
The so far overall better paced one of the 2 stories despite us seemingly skipping an unknown amount of time assume the reinforcements didn't just teleport in.
Also the giant fake emeralds are than properly more like oversized Chaos Drives.
Speaking about them and teleportation why are the heroes even running to the center there is a giant Chaos energy crystal and at least one of the guys here can invoke Chaos control with up 2 to more of them possible also being able to do so going off Sonic 06.
So just teleport to the tower its not gonna be any faster and saver than that (and for that matter couldn't Sonic use that to go save the other team too?)
I so hope the comics are allowed to write Shadow properly again because this stupid hedgehog based on what Sega allows has the power to single handily tank the entire story.
Haha, with Whisper I feel like somebody on the idw staff read every time I criticized her and tried to wrap it up all in a neat bun. They even had her sent to the hospital like I said should've happened from the kind of beating she took from Surge! But then we find out about the Shadow androids. Maybe they should've waited after that obvious mental trial for Whisper or when she finally confronts Mimic again, but eh, it's something. They better not pack peddle again.
Hmm, they could've formed a whole arc around Landolin's lack of self confidence, but they also quickly resolved Jewel's, too. So I guess this was expected. Tangle giving the pep talks to everybody in this book. She really is the female version of game Sonic aside from the lack of maturity.
The thing about Sonic realizing he needs help when he likes going solo was out of nowhere, though. He was just with a team like how many minutes ago? He was the one who asked for back up last issue, right? Not to mention retreading what Sonic Heroes itself had him acknowledged and later embarrassingly shout "The real Superpower of Teamwork". Ian had a lapse in memory or something? If that's what he was trying to reference I think he was going the wrong way about it.

"(and for that matter couldn't Sonic use that to go save the other team too?)" i think you're kinda reaching here a little, we don't know how this egg-dimension thing even works, and besides, we don't even know how chaos emerald teleportation works, because if it works by having the user imagine the place they wanna go to, then sonic can't do it, he's not seeing what tangle, whisper and lanolin are seeing, and thus can't teleport to where they are.

honestly, the second i saw team dark, i was honestly like "oh noooooooo.", welp, this arc was good while it lasted, can't wait for shadow to suplex its quality into the ground.

It just still feels really rushed.Perhaps part of my issue is that Whisper in general has been getting special treatment for a while so her getting things set right on her own feels more like the writers not wanting anyone to call out her bad behavioral yet still wanting to get rid of it and do both as fast as possible.
Maybe but given that we now already got a hero cast of 11 characters and only 2 issues or so to go do I feel like we won't have the time for it. Especially as there currently a 0.5 dimensions apart from one another.

I would have to disagree with it. I mean apparently did Biolizard use the thousand of Chaos Drives in his life support unite to do all of the OP stuff including Chaos Control that Shadow can't pull of at this scale without an emerald.
Also just look at them they clearly are just giant Chaos Drives and not Giant Chaos Emeralds.
I mean if I'm reaching than only because the Comic did it first with them debating if Blaze could use the Sol Emeralds dimension traveling to get the other team out.
You joke but we both know that Shadow is a giant Spotlight hog so him being written badly means that a lot of pages will be dedicated to him being badly written.
Really my only hope for Shadow is that Evan apparently stated that Sega is a bit less restrictive with Shadow this time around.
Tho she still said it has to be game Shadow which opens for me the question which game Shadow:
- Maekawa Stoic and introverted Shadow that cares deeply for his friends on the inside
- Iizuka More emotional but often in a brooding sense Shadow that still cares a lot for his friends and allies
- Team Sonic Racing Shadow who is a dick that unironically steals candy from a baby and doesn't care for anyone but himself.

in sonic runners, silver is listed as a speed (and easy) type, and can triple jump, an exclusive ability of speed types in the game.
or, biolizard was simply using his chaos control organ while the chaos drives simply provided the power source.
they're just not cut into a diamond shape, they're functionally a chaos emerald.
i mean, to be fair, the games don't ever imply that blaze can use the sol emeralds to travel to various dimensions, seemingly needing the combined power of the chaos emeralds and the sol emeralds for sonic and tails to return to their own dimension, so i don't think the comic's necessarily reaching here, blaze can only travel between her and sonic's dimension.
OH! that's what you meant, for some reason i thought you meant he had the power tank anything the story/eggman throws at him (as in don't underpower him, hence the sonic X writer comparison), but no, you meant tanking the story's quality, in which case, yes, agreed.

I wasn't sure on the issue count which is why I gave a "or so" answer. After looking it up was I off by 1 issue its 3 more to go.
Metal Virus started from issue 13 and lasted (including 2 issue epilogue) issue 32. So it lasted between 19 and 17 issues PLUS a double length Annual dedicated to it.
(tho it certainly felt like 70 for certain)
Which is about as long as Belle got consecutive appearances since her introduction appearing in every issue from 34 to 54 for 20 issues total.
Sonic Runners is weird. Also MAX POWER post 06 Silver story ending ESP Silver is a flying type in runners so there would be that.

I was mostly talking about this stories own logic as Tails implied that Blaze maybe could have traveled using the Sol Emeralds power (which is in general a rather odd retcon done entirely so that Blaze can be in the story. I actually think the idea from the unfinished Archie Sonic Universe story with Bunny that had Marine use the Jewel Scepter to travel between dimensions would have made more sense but what ever) And we know Chaos Control can for certain travel between dimensions given that Black Doom could even use it to teleport troupes into Cyber Space in Shadow's solo game.
I mean with Evan now taking over is under-powering not off the table ether (remember Chao Races and Badnik bases were a vintage Sonic 4 enemy was to much for Amy thank god Evan correct at least that mistake since) But yes I was talking about the story's quality it self.
We just got to wait and see if Shadow is fixed or not.

Everybody talks about how much they like Tangle and Whisper as friends, but the thing is there isn't much to them as friends or whatever else you want to infer. Nobody ever elaborates. Their dynamic is rather dry and basic. Just shy girl and extroverted girl. We don't really see what makes them such good friends in a medium that's built to allow this kinda thing action series or not.
I believe people only like the idea of them when they say they like them. Like, aside from being fellow child soldiers/war buddies(?) what connects these two? They've only known each other for like a month or something at most and spent a lot time apart between that. Like what are their hobbies and interests? We got to know a tiny bit about Tangle that doesn't make its why back in the main comic like her favorite eats or her grooming habits.
Is Whisper a soldier 24/7? Like what if we saw her Sleep with her gun and eat with her gun due to her paranoia of Mimic coming after her or it just a habit in general from her time with the Diamond Cutters? Maybe she only know how to be a soldier? We have had teases of it (like asking for orders from Amy that one time ), but it is never taken far enough. If the diamond cutters are like her family was she adopted by them explaining her awkwardness in social situations or was she always this way?
Or what if she had exclusive knowledge on weapons and tactics of war. Maybe mention the worst cause scenarios either to be unintentionally or intentionally pessimistic disposition for dark humor (within kid friendly parameters of course). The one thing that's never brought up again since Battle for Angel Island is that maybe she likes to tell jokes, so maybe she has a sense of humor, but that's it.
This problem plagues the previous Diamond Cutters, too. The comic failed to give them any real personalities other than generic soldiers to make it obvious they were just written to die for Whisper's angst, so when Whisper mentions that they'd be honored for her new team to take on the name I can only take Whisper's word for it.
This is why I think the comics could do well to have more issues with multiple smaller stories or back up issues to the main one for smaller stakes, minor villains, little flashbacks or some social event in the world of Sonic at least between arcs or for the characters that aren't participating in said arc. But they keep stuffing anything like that in annuals or entire separate issues! Like, Bruh, who thinks that's a good idea to do ALL the time...?
In all the 'flashback' stuff of Whisper's backstory, she's not squinty-eyed, socially awkward, or speaking in whispers. The comics do a solid job - if a bit subtle - of establishing Whisper's social issues to be because she's a trauma victim (rather than a naturally shy girl). Figuring out social interaction hasn't really been presented as her struggle, she just put up a shell to barrier it off from her. Her struggle is that the shell is built out of fears, and she's grown into it. Tangle, meanwhile, cracks shells, pulls people up, and simplifies complicated things. They're an extremely fitting friend combo in terms of personal needs and personal development.
I feel like their friendship is well established in an immediate way; they do not need the casual side hang-outs and shared hobbies for it to be strong right now. They were probably intentionally written to not have had those casual elements yet, even. Their lives around each other haven't had much of a chance to slow down enough... but when it does, then there'd be a reason for those things to pop up, as they'd be what keeps them partnered up in the longer term.
So I've found the comic's handling of their friendship to be pretty good, and was actually something that drew me to care about the IDW Sonic comics at all. However, your solution is exactly what I want to see still! Seeing how they hang out together fully outside of mainline adventure/disaster/roller-coaster missions... I'm game to see some of that.
I've got a suggestion as to how that could be made easier. All IDW needs to do is kill. Mimic. OFF! That's it! It's the only way Whisper can find true peace; he can't hurt her or anyone else anymore if he's dead! Seriously, I'm STILL a LITTLE surprised Starline got killed off before Mimic!

Um, Whisper? Three things:
1. Even GOOD friends always have room to become BETTER friends.
2. It wasn't just one person who took your friends; it was two. Mimic led them into a trap, but Eggman was the one who set and sprang it. I understand that Mimic was the traitor, but let's not also lose sight of the greater threat.
3. I wouldn't trust Belle if I were you; she was willing to repair Eggman's greatest weapon, her very antithesis! Because of her, Sonic's leg got hurt; he, she, and Tails almost got killed; and she doesn't regret a thing except for the fact that Metal Sonic thanked her with a smack in the face, which she deserved for her unapologetic treachery!

I prefer Tangle and Whisper be sister bond friends. Adding lesbian couples will turn off the readers as they want to escape the real world of all wokeness. Plus IDW is failing because of it so the shipping wont save it.
